New thread time!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
jaggythistle · 01/08/2012 03:36

right, was just testing that my phone was working before i wrote a post!

been trying to keep up and read everything but have had slight Mumsnet apathy. maybe overload after too many weeks obsessing!

the end is in sight with the frickin garden, but i could still see it taking a couple of weeks.

I'm embarrassed to say there has been no sff here and DS2 is 3 months old. Blush although i seem to be healed up fine after episiotomy, i honestly can't be bothered at bedtime, if DS2 is asleep i just want to crash out. DS1's nap times would be more likely but DH too busy every day. :(

no news here, DS2 getting chubby and smiley, DS1 still enthusiastic about potty, can't really get a decent run at it though, I'd prefer DH was in to help!

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 01/08/2012 07:59

Morning all!

HV coming today at 10.30 - not really sure why. Weaning chat maybe? To tell me off for missing the jabs on Monday? To force me to tidy my house? How is that the kitchen was pretty presentable yesterday and today it looks like a bomb hit it? Ok, so I didn't tidy up after I cooked dinner...and DH made a cake and didn't tidy up after himself either...I wish I had some helpful washing-up fairies a la the Elves and the Shoemaker.

Think M is a happy chucker too!

Ouch to the sore nipple chat - sounds horrible. Sad Glad yours are better now, Musical, and Brooking for Ninja's.

Little Howl is yelling on her mat - bye!

NinjaChipmunk · 01/08/2012 08:53

morning all! well on the back of yesterdays expressing/ combined feeding decision i now have a contented baby snoozing on my lap, ds has gone off to nursery in a good mood and dp spent more time with dd last night than he has been able to do since she was born. And my boobs don't hurt as much and i'm not looking at feeds with a sense of dread. That's got to be worth it right?
DS was so naughty yesterday we had to use his cryptonite of no bedtime stories as punishment. First thing he did was put cereal and milk from his bowl into my shoes, then when his friend came to play they both climbed out of his bedroom window into the garden (we have a ground floor flat) and then pulled apart one of his toys and broke it. I think it was because i've spent no time with him in the last month so hopefully that will start to change.
jaggy glad to hear potty training is going well. What are you doing with your garden?
On the subject of sff there's been none in our house since fairly early pregnancy, poor dp is very patient! I wouldn't like to guess when it'll resume either Blush

Wants3 · 01/08/2012 14:46

A bit of SFF going on here but I still need to decide on contraception before I can totally relax. Anyone have any experience with the rod implant( goes under the skin)?
The car didn't start again this morning and I missed the train by 3 minutes so I walked to my group this morning( about 3 1/2 miles) so I feel I have done my exercise for the day! Currently sitting on the sofa watching Olympics,

pommedechocolat · 01/08/2012 15:39

Great news to hear things going well ninja. Toddlers get so jealous, dd1 had the classic initial reaction and then was great but with the reflux and the screaming/attention on dd2 she can react again poor mite. She's doing so well on potty training too, only having accidents at nursery now. She's even been holding it all in overnight as well, dry am nappies [shocked]

Dietician was good have a plan - it does involve challrenging her with dairy soon to check she really is cmpi. Back to see them end of sept. I was very impressed though and definitely feel helped.

pommedechocolat · 01/08/2012 15:39

How was gv too?

Sff about once every three weeks here, wish I could summon energy for more - i miss it!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 01/08/2012 19:48

Contraception? What's that? Shock Wink

I have exciting news! At the grand age of 20 weeks, we have cut our first tooth!

Ninja have you been checked for tongue tie? You should not be having cracked bleeding nips still!

Potty training going well here, had an accident at the dinner table earlier and made me realise that there have been no accidents in ages! Not braved nights yet, still in pull ups for then.

Dream do you love the be prepared? I would feel a right twit by recommending my back side off and you not love it! Lol

DreamingOfPeace · 01/08/2012 20:33

The be prepared is lovely purple, looks in good condition for a used bag and i love the look of it, but way heavier empty than I was expecting! Slightly nervous as the one thing with my buggy (the BJ city mini double) is it has a warning label on it saying not to hang bags over the handlebars. They do their own change bag which clips onto the side and doesn't affect it folding etc. I do hang bags, but am always wary of overloading... The ju ju only arrived the day before yesterday and its been so manic here I've not had a proper look at it or packed it up yet. Hopefully tonight if I can ever get these three to sleep Confused .

SFF only once here since the dts Blush . Poor Dh. I just find it hard to get in the mood when I'm so tired, S is usually up again by 10 or 11 pm nowadays and I'm hopeless, I'd rather rest/read/sleep atm... I heard bf can affect hormones and getting in the mood too. True or old wives tale anyone?!

Also purple, I was told frozen ebm loses many of the nutrients/benefits so is no better than formula. Is this true? If so I'll not bother building up a freezer stash maybe...

Glad dietician was helpful pomme, thank goodness for a plan.

Awaiting the hv update too

Right. To try and put down a bad, bad bat baby...

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 01/08/2012 20:41

HV was fine - bit of an anti-climax, really. Not sure it was really worth her while to come out. She gave me a folder of weaning leaflets and we chatted about baby-led weaning a bit, and she did the post-natal depression score again. I'm not depressed, but I was a bit Hmm at her saying that it was obvious from looking at me that I wasn't. I know only too well from my experience with a) Mum and b) DH that depression is very easy to hide from casual acquaintances. Anyway, that was our last appt, apparently, although M will technically be under her care until she's 5. She didn't check anything like M's weight or height - asked me if she was rolling yet, but that was it from a developmental point of view. I said she had rolled from front to back but not the other way, and she's not done it for a while because she seems happier to be on her front these days.

Oooh, a tooth, Purple? How exciting! Does it make any difference to bf?

Contraception worries me too. I have the mini-pill but I just can't seem to manage to take it regularly. I've lost my packet atm and haven't taken it in a few days. I am yet to take it regularly enough to actually bonk, in 12 weeks (any activity has been of the not-pg-inducing type, or else the rhythm method). I haven't personally tried the implant, Wants, but my sister had it for 6 months and then had it taken out because she had a bleed lasting 3 or 4 weeks - in fact, it carried on until she got the implant removed. A friend has it and says it's great, though. I was wondering about the injections, myself.

Pomme, glad the dietician was good! Hope your plan goes well - reintroducing dairy sounds a bit scary, but hopefully will prove it one way or the other.

Ninja, Grin at DS filling your shoes with cereal! And yay for a contented baby. That's definitely worth it.

TooImmatureTurtleDoves · 01/08/2012 20:52

Cross-post, Dream. Not sure if it's an old wives' tale or not. Maybe it's just tiredness/worry. I'm too scared to bonk in the bedroom in case we wake M up, and I'm too scared to leave her alone and bonk in another room in case she dies when we're enjoying ourselves. Oh God, I sound like a maniac. I am actually sitting in the living room and she's been alone in the bedroom for an hour and a half, so I'm not totally unable to leave her. I'm just getting tenser and tenser the longer I'm here

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 01/08/2012 21:54

Lower teeth are fine with bf as the tongue covers the bottom teeth and with dd I didn't have tremendous bother with upper teeth sometimes had to relearn the latch, but no hardship honestly!

Frozen BM does lose some of its goodness through freezing and thawing but it is still good to use. I don't want to say anything about formula really as I don't want to upset anyone, but the BM is still considered better. Up to of course, why do u need a freezer stash?

Pomme so sorry I forgot to mention the dietician, I am really pleased that went well for you :)

Too it is understandable that u don't want to leave M I don't leave H, I just ignore that he is asleep in the corner of the room lol

Dream, I guess it is weighty... But I never really noticed, it has been fine on the handles of my pushchairs but I don't have the same as you... You can get buggy weights for the front if it is a worry. The jjb do stay in great shape, one of the reasons I really like them and am so happy to buy off eBay.

pommedechocolat · 01/08/2012 22:10

Trying a with soya milk in cereal directly tomorrow!

purple- forgot you were a pram hun. My adored bee is buggered so I got a good eBay deal on a sola. Arrived today and am pretty pleased with it so far must try to not run over this one

too Angry at hv depression comment. Ive only met two good hv's with my two and due to moves etc have seen a few.

Dietician told me a wouldn't take neocate formula as it was so grim (smells of fish and yeast) but I did some in a beaker for her and she sipped at it just fine (just an oz with her tea). Maybe my bm is grim too!

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 01/08/2012 22:55

Maybe a has a refined palate? Fish and yeast yummy....

I am a recovering pram Hun (hate that name!) trying to sell up right now actually! Hope you like your Sola, tiggywunkle if you have come across her is a real pram Hun, know who she is in rl (not met) she is everywhere.

I am addicted to that draw something game, on iPad have you played?

Too the Hv depression thing will just be protocol, we don't get a visit after 6 weeks until 9 month development check, which is fine with me a I genuinely don't see the point of Hv and most are useless! In my area anyway.

jaggythistle · 02/08/2012 00:03

i was surprised to get a random 3-4 month check purple, HV had said we'd need to go to clinic for future weighings. not sure where at the surgery it actually is, i was spoiled by the HV for DS1 who used to visit loads but is now retired.

would like to get DS2 weighed again sometime, he seems huge. he's 15 weeks and could do with the 6-9 month sleepsuits and vests down. don't remember DS1 being this big so quick...think he's a long baby.

re the garden ninja, just imagine ripping up the whole thing and starting from scratch. with areas of paving and deck and new shed and fence and gates. also about 75% of work being done by DH on his own. can't bloody wait for it to be done. i had visions of a lovely summer as a family with him being a SAHD and me on mat leave... we'll get to the zoo yet.

right better get to sleep...night night

pommedechocolat · 02/08/2012 01:28

purple- one thing the dietician did say that I wasn't sure about was that being active can lower mill supply? We were talking about the fact a has three night feeds still, I was saying I thought it was reglux and then habit from reflux that feeding was easier at night when drowsy. She was asking me how active I was and when I said I didn't sit down till dd1 went to bed said that my supply might be better at night leading a to feed more then. Is that true??

Biscuitsandtea · 02/08/2012 07:02

Just whizzing in to say howdy Brookers Smile

Sorry for radio silence - have been busy busy so have been reading when I have time but never seem to have time to post. Not much to report from the biscuit tin anyway.

pomme glad the dietician helped - a plan is a great thing and even just knowing that someone understands the problem and is on your team must be good. Eg I'd the reintroduction of dairy goes badly at least you have someone you could call even before your sept appt. So I'm super glad that's happening, and brooking the reintroduction of the slightly Bleh sounding milk goes ok Smile

ninja also glad to hear of improvements from your end. Brooking that ds1 is being a good boy for his mummy. It's so hard when you're tired and they're dealing with huge changes. I know with my ds1 I felt that when he was being naughty I knew I wasn't handling it well because I was tired etc. I feel much calmer now I'm getting some sleep and I feel much better able to deal with ds1. Great news on the house moving stuff. Is the new one nearby or will ds1 have to change schools?

I've forgotten everything else. Blush

Oh, buggy weights - I have some of those for my mclaren techno - they're OK ish but not amazing. If you've a heavy 'loaded up for 3' change bag I'm not sure they'd be up to the job.

Right better crack on and get dressed I suppose xx

Biscuitsandtea · 02/08/2012 07:28

Oh and ds2 is a happy chucker too Smile. Ds1 never was. I hope he grows out of it before there's food involved..... Confused

PurpleWithaBlueBun · 02/08/2012 08:51

Biscuits puking often settles by food, whether food itself helps Or just the the stomach is more mature I don't kno? Happy chucker here to :)

pomme load of crap... Although taking the time to sit down and feed and relax is helpful. In many countries mothers who are malnourished feed their babies and are on the go all day. Sounds like a guilt trip to me Hmm

FluffyJawsOfDoom · 02/08/2012 09:36

Hi everyone! Hope you're all well? :)

Musical I wondered if you'd found a non-lanolin substitute to Lansinoh nipple cream? People keep saying it's invaluable but I'm a bit unsure about using it... Confused

JenFraggle · 02/08/2012 09:42

You may not need it Fluff, I bought some and only used it a couple times before realising that I didn't need it

Biscuitsandtea · 02/08/2012 11:02

What are you unsure about Fluff? Are you allergic?

Looking fabulous by the way there my lovely Smile. How long until you can provide us with a new baby to coo over (I need an outlet for this broodiness you see Grin).

Who is next actually?

Wants3 · 02/08/2012 11:10

Just wrote a long post and MN went offline just as I posted! Meh.
D had a really good night again, went down at 9.30,woke at 4.45 and6.30 and then up for the day at 7.45. We are also getting 2 1/2-3 hours between day time feeds in the mornings.
My Nans funeral is going to be next weds:(
Just found out my new DNiece has the same condition as my DN:(:(. My db and dsis are not related ( complicated emoticon) so it is just one of those things.

Loopyhasanotherbean · 02/08/2012 12:27

Just lurking, but i'm meant to be next biscuits, due date 11th Sept although expecting i could be joining you sooner as DS was over a week early.

Re Ju Ju Be Be Prepared, DP kindly bought me one, bargain via ebay, someone was selling one in the colour we wanted, she'd used it a handful of times and decided it was too big for just one child, its as good as new, and i am very pleased with it indeed! So thanks for steering me in that direction. It is now packed ready for the hospital, it's got everything i might need for a 5 night+stay for baby and for me whilst in labour, and then just got a small case packed with things for me post labour. Even DP was impressed by the size of it/quality/number of pockets etc.

NinjaChipmunk · 02/08/2012 13:02

I have a ju ju be messenger bag which is great but heavy even when empty. Fits a ton of crap in it though! Grin
DD is soooo much more settled. I think I made the right choice and she is still getting breastmilk so all in all we are happy in the ninja household today. Although nursery have just told us we owe them a shed load of money we didn't know about which is not so nice Hmm, I'll have to get that sorted this afternoon.
looopy not long to go now, you sound well prepared. Is it munx after that? fluff you can't be far off either now can you? Hope you find a lansinoh substitute, maybe start a post in the breast and bottle feeding section?

Right, I must make a cup of tea and motivate myself to fill in solicitors forms.

musicalmrs · 02/08/2012 13:09

Hi Fluffy! How're things going? :)

I'm afraid I didn't find an alternative. I bought some Lansinoh when I was struggling, but to be honest, I didn't find it helped much - and I did have tingling problems when using it, so I'm not sure if that was an allergy or just my poor nipples healing :( I did really struggle though!

My midwife was able to give me some sample sachets - might be worth asking? :) She had some, or they're often available at the hospital! To be honest though, I found rubbing breast milk into them to be more effective - not sure why.

How exciting that you're due so soon Loopy! Will have to find the time to keep an eye on the antenatal thread during the day, rather than just during the night shift ;)

Wants, your poor DNiece :(

Just talked to one of my places of work - and confirmed returning in January '13, for two days a week. Eek! Need to go look at childminders and nurseries in DH's next few days off. Also need to look at more work locally (which will be more financially viable...)
