Dec 08 Mums - still biffing on

LadyThompson · 11/07/2012 22:49

Yes, yes, it's a bit lame. I wanted to say: "Still fucking on!" but wary of causing offence....

I know 'biffing' is a bit PG Wodehouse, as well. You'll just have to humour me Grin

SIS are one of the best, and you get a free bottle with them. You can also make your own, though a bit of a faff. When I was racing & training while BFing DS1 I got a little worried about all the crap in energy drinks (some have aspartamine, bizzare) and I found an energy drink that was reasonably natural. I now can't for the life of me remember it. And jelly belly beans are Veggie and you can get them in all the supermarkets. I didn't do them though as I just trained with DH & made him carry all our energy drinks on his belt thing, or we were doing a there and back run I would pop a bottle of energy drink bag in a secret spot somewhere and get it on the way back.

Oops have just noticed there is another page I haven't read will post and have a look.

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 13:54

Vag that's an idea. Is your DH available to be my water carrier please Grin?

Advantage of jelly beans is I suppose you can just pop some in a pocket and just use in emergency ..

SummerLightning · 16/09/2012 16:35

Haha I thought you meant jelly beans for kiwis dd's tummy bug. Was most confused. I use torq energy gels they are yummy. But don't use them often as rarely out for long enough to need them.

KiwiPanda · 17/09/2012 08:35

Just dropped off both DDs for first child free day in over a year and what am I doing with it? Having root canal

Absolutely dreading it

Indith · 17/09/2012 10:05

Oh dear Kiwi, hope it goes well. Sure you will be fine and able to enjoy the quiet with a book later on.

How did it go Trace?

One of dd's lions has been missing now for 48 hours :(. We are 99% certain it hasn't left the house but am starting to think it must have done, no idea where it could be. Dd decided he has gone to London on the train but I fear she is going ot get sick of that soona nd get very upset :(

JamInMyWellies · 17/09/2012 18:24

Kiwi how did you get on at the torture chamber dentists? I have a large bit of filling cosmetic work to be done on Wed morning, I have then stupidly scheduled a vag and leg wax for afterwards. There will be a huge slice of cake being liquidised and then eaten on Wed afternoon.

spotofcheerfulness · 18/09/2012 07:17

Make sure you don't get the appointments mixed up and end up with waxed teeth and a cosmetically filled vag...Wink

Indith · 18/09/2012 08:13

has anyone asked vag if she actually wants to be waxed?

JamInMyWellies · 18/09/2012 09:13

McKayz · 18/09/2012 10:17

Grin Poor Vag

VagolaJahooli · 18/09/2012 19:50

Ouch!!! Why is everyone always wanting to remove my hair!

Haha I'm giggling away at that Indith, I was trying to think of a witty return but you beat me to it.

I am shattered today, it was Prinsesdag here, the day the queen opens parliament (I think we still have one here) so day off for the Den Haag schools. So we played at a friends house in the morning and then had violin in the afternoon. We also needed to do some shopping for DHs birthday tomorrow. Found him a nice but stupidly expensive coat, but he never spends money on clothes so I think it is worth it. But got to the counter and I had left my wallet at home. I asked them to wrap & hold the coat while I legged it home on the bike, with the boys in the trailer, found wallet grabbed it, then high tailed it back to town, it was time now for violin so decided to go there first before getting coat. Unfortunately, the violin class is just beyond the houses of parliament, which was rammed all around due HRH (or whatever the Dutch call her) so a the last 100 meters took us 10minutes to walk because I had to pull the bike & trailer through the crowd.

Anyhoo we did the lesson, then went back for the coat only to find I had forgotten my maestro card and we have maxed out our credit card so I couldn't buy the coat. The lady was very nice and is holding it for me and I'll go back & get it tomorrow morning. Bummer because we won't be able to give it to him on his birthday but hey Ho. It turned out the maestro card was under my wallet and I hadn't seen it when I had grabbed the wallet.

JollyJellyBear · 18/09/2012 21:35

Hello everyone,

Indith I saw your thread about your DD's lion and forgot to respond, sorry. Places you might not have thought of: Zipped inside a cushion or sofa. Tangled in sheets or other washing (I'm always finding socks in the bottom of duvet covers). Behind bookshelves (DD1 is throwing her Baba in the air all the time and he often gets tangled on high shelves).

kiwi Hope the tooth isn't too awful. Lots of hot soup and rest for you please. I have no idea on the energy drink thing but DH has done two lake district runs and on one he was given jelly babies and the other Kendal Mint Cake half way round.

Vag How frustrating with the coat. That is the kind of thing I do. Hope your DH has a great day. Tis my birthday too. DH is planning to bake me a cake. That should be interesting!

RT Re the bf. I agree with everyone else. Give it a go and stop if it doesn't work out. Having FF one and bf the other I think bf is soooooo much easier once you get going. Faffing about washing bottles, making up a bottle for them to fall asleep after three sucks etc. But bf worked out well for DD2 and I. It doesn't for everyone and if you have problems you can stop.

Trace Hope you got on ok and enjoyed yourself.

Our dishwasher has stopped draining. I knew I loved the dishwasher but now it isn't working, it has reinforced my love. The kitchen is so messy. We only got one when we moved yet I feel like we've returned to the dark ages Grin.

I made 9 jars of damson jam from damson trees yesterday and washing all the sticky jam pans by hand was not fun. Neither was removing all the stones. Delia suggested I should count the damsons going into the plan and then count the stones as they are removed Shock. Come on Delia, that is just madness - there were hundreds of the buggers. I've aleady sampled the fruits of my labour and it is delicious. Almost worth the hours I spent doing it.

Beans36 · 18/09/2012 22:20

Hello everyone. Kiwi, how's your mouth? All ok?

My sisters and Mum came up for lunch today. Was lovely to see them. We had a wonderful natter, punctuated by much weeping. Discussed Dad's funeral. Pretty horrific, but does have to be done. Off to see him next Tuesday. God, it's all so bloody grim. Although we did get terrible giggles a few times when we remembered a few things, which was gorgeous. One positive thing to come out of this shit is that we're seeing a lot more of each other, which is lovely.

Anyhooooo, away to bed. Hope Sybs had a lovely bday yesterday x

Honsandrevels · 18/09/2012 22:40

Oh Beans that is very sad.

I'm trying out a namechange, tis I Jolly. I came across two posters with jelly and jolly in their names today and I didn't much like what they said!

VagolaJahooli · 19/09/2012 08:49

Oh Beans so sad and so lovely all at the same time. Unfortunately I'm my line of work I've had the honour of supporting many families through the last months, weeks & days of a loved ones demise. It is always painful to watch everyone involved going through it and I'm a little teary now as I see many of their faces now. I've mostly looked after terminal children of course but in my first year out of Uni I was an adult nurse. Of that year I will always remember the family that has always stuck with me the most. It was a beautiful mum in her late 60's who had terminal cancer & her three wonderful, funny daughters. I remember them sitting with her and all chatting together sometimes laughing sometimes crying. They were with her all the way along and while I was sad that this lovely women had to go through this (she really was a sweetie even in her last days she used to ask about the other patients and how all the nurses were) I felt that I would be really blessed to leave this life with such a loving family around me. Her daughters were like a testament to what a beautiful women she was. Your dad created three beautiful human beings, I'm sorry for all he is going through, but you are a more of a support to him than I think you even realise. Being able to talk and be so open together will be such a relief for him. I've also seen the other side, in families who just won't talk about it, the stress is painful, & just causes so much more damage to the remaining family.

VagolaJahooli · 19/09/2012 08:50

Oops Rubes I forgot to say a friend of mine uses childcare.co.uk I don't know anything about them I just saw that she liked their page on FB.

RTchoke · 19/09/2012 08:51

Oh Beans that does sound sad but I'm so glad that your sisters and your mum and you are pulling together and supporting each other. Re funerals we released white doves from the graveside as we lowered mum's coffin in and it was such a perfect moment of joy (even laughter as one sat on the coffin and refused to move). It distracted from the horror of the moment and now whenever I see a dove I feel mum is watching over me.

Jolly/Hons you are a domestic goddess indeed. I love Damsons Yum.

Kiwi - I hope the tooth is OK. And yours too Jam (not to mention the Jam fanjo and legs).

Happy birthday to Mr Vajola. I love the fact that the Dutch get a day off for the State Opening if parliament. We should follow suit, it might actually boost parliament's popularity and public engagement.

Robbie Williams has sort of stolen my preferred girl's name. His daughter is Theodora Rose. We wanted Dorothea Rosa. Dorothea is special to me because my Mum's last ever letter to be included the line "Nurture the Dorothea in yourself and shun the Rosamund" (reference to characters in Middlemarch). I also like the nn Dora and Thea. Will I look like a sad Robbie wannabe if I choose Dorothea? DH not convinced anyway so probably worrying over nothing.

Indith · 19/09/2012 09:06

Vag I hope you sta down and had some cake after that day!

Beans how lovely. Sounds like you had a very bittersweet time with your mum and sister. Hold onto those good times and they will see you through.

Damson jam sounds lush. I absolutely MUST go blackberry picking this week else we will miss out. I want to get the freezer stocked up a bit. Trouble is I never seem to manage to get round to it between school and nursery and so on because if I take dd in the afternoon I'll never get her to walk to school. Urgh. Maybe this afternoon and then we'll cheat and take the car to school.

RT Dorothea is lovely. Lovely lovely lovely. Rose is such a popular middle name nobody will think you've taken Rosa from anyone and Theodora and Dorothea are, to me, very different names. Mind you I live under a rock so what do I know Grin.

traceface · 19/09/2012 10:45

Hi All,
Sorry to be so fleeting again. I have Phoebs so need to go and play, but just wanted to poke my head in.
Beans so sorry to hear about your dad's latest news. We are all sharing a tiny piece of your pain and laughter as you face these last times as a family. Much love.
Thanks so much for your GNR support - yes I did it!!! In 2 hrs 31, which si about what I thought I would do. I was tired at the end - I could NEVER do a marathon - but had the most fab time! People I've never met cheering me along by name! Loved it!
Right must go but will try to be back very soon
xxx

LadyThompson · 19/09/2012 13:12

Trace, I am seriously impressed. Well DONE my love!

I have done a 7 miler this morn (walk though!) and I had the double buggy so it was such a work out. Loved it. I didn't love O whinging all the way round but she has a cough so isn't allowed to be at pre-school (they have gone hardcore on people taking their kids in with coughs or colds - fair enoughski).

Beans - I am glad you had a get together to chat about all this, even though it's so upsetting. Also, doing it all in a rush without proper thought is so hard (we certainly didn't plan DH's funeral because neither of us could ever admit he wasn't going to get better). RT, the doves sounded lovely.

Oh, and blast Robbie Williams. I love Theodora, it's been in the running both times for me. I say it's been 'in the running' - what I really mean is that I love it and DP has vetoed it twice Grin Along with Christabel. Truly, I think his daughter's name is truly different from your possible name idea. Both are v elegant. Yes, I am going through a good patch with DP but every time I say that on here it presages an evil row. So there you go, I have jinxed us. How are you feeling? Have you told anyone else? And is it C who is also pregnant?

I like your new Mitfordy/Chocolatey name, JB. Or should I say - Hons! Or H&R! Hey, I know what you mean about the loons on here. If ever I look at the wider boards these days, I despair. Spiteful, gobby thickoes abound, that you would simply cross the street to avoid in real life.

Did I tell you, ladies, that I am seeing our WG at a wedding in Nov? I will get her in a headlock and tell her to pop in and see us on here.

Ooh, hang on. DD1 wants something.

OP posts:
RTchoke · 19/09/2012 13:20

Hi LadyT - yes it is C! Isn't that amazing? But it's TOP secret as clearly I shouldn't be announcing her news. It's just so exciting though. I hope we both have safe pregnancy because having "twin" babies with such an old and close friend would be great.

You sound like you are doings loads of exercise. How's the weight loss?

LadyThompson · 19/09/2012 13:39

Phew, it's really cold in here. Anyone else cold? If there was gas central heating we could just flick on, it would deffo be on. But having a real fire in the living room or the wood burner in the kitchen is too much of a fag.

Indith, have you had some calmer days with DS2? I see how is now mobile, blimey. I haven't seen many blackberries round here, but there are tons of rosehips in the hedgerows...Happy to pick some and post if anyone fancies rosehip jelly, it's full of vitamin C!

KP - how was the dentist? You poor thing. I have never had a root canal, was it bearable?

Hope your DH has a good birthday, Vag. What was the coat like?

I would like to buy a decent fitting blazer sort of jacket and some nice brown boots. Can't afford either Grin Whenever I go to Daylesford, the owner is always prowling around wearing those things, with skinny jeans and a white shirt. She always looks brill.

These monthly trips have been the financial disaster of the year, however cheap the flights and accommodation. But I can't jack it in having got this far, so on I go.....I really am a plonker. I suppose I just turned 40 in a year when we have really struggled with money, a year in which any extracurricular spending would be a strain. However, as I am writing about it, that's another reason I feel I can't junk it now.

My Italian class starts tonight. It's only one hour a week and is supercheap so I don't feel too guilty (in fact, the first session is free).

I had a lovely time at Mum's - hard to leave, as usual.

OP posts:
LadyThompson · 19/09/2012 13:47

Oooh, crossposted RT! How utterly lovely for C and for you - I promise I shan't utter a word to a soul.

I am not really exercising that much - just two 6 or 7 mile walks per week (but up and down hills and pushing a buggy and at a fair pace).

Weightloss has stalled recently - but I need to try a bit harder and also do other exercise apart from walking. Although it's smashing in all ways, I do feel I need some sort of contrasting activity. But the whole thing of being 'officially' a normal weight helps with my state of mind, because it all feels like more of an enjoyable challenge, rather than a monkey on my back. I mean, I still look fairly podgy Grin But I am definitely at least passable.

OP posts:
sybilfaulty · 19/09/2012 20:19

LAdyT, you always looked fabulous, even when you were bigger. I think passable is very harsh on yourself. Bloody gorgeous is better.

RT, well done, huge congratulations, love Dorothea and not too similar to Robbie's daughter. Do you have any boys' names or are you convinced it's a girl?

How are you Beans? Thinking of you.

Thanks for all the birthday wishes. I am officially old and have had a dark dye job to cover the grey. I hope it's different in daylight or I might look mighty odd. It's permanent as well. Oops.

RTchoke · 20/09/2012 07:03

Belated Happy Birthday Sybs. I hope yr hair is looking good in the morning light. I am convinced it's a girl. Can't imagine making a boy! And I can't think if any boys names really. DH likes Reuben but I'm not sure. I do like old testament names though.I thought of Ezra but it's been ruined by Ezra Pound.

Trace , I meant to say HUGe congrats on the run. You are amazing!
