Dec 08 Mums - still biffing on

Yes, yes, it's a bit lame. I wanted to say: "Still fucking on!" but wary of causing offence....

I know 'biffing' is a bit PG Wodehouse, as well. You'll just have to humour me Grin

Having said that RT, do what you've gotta do to get through. If it is scaring you that much, just recognise that you and only you make the choice and whatever it is, it will be the right one if you make it based on your knowledge and experience.

McKayz · 14/09/2012 17:36

I had that at school yesterday from one of the mums. DD had been up 4 times and she said it was because I was BF. She looked so bloody smug until I told her that DS2 was FF and didn't sleep through until 11 months.

I am actually still so surprised how easily BF seems to have gone this time round. We had some issues to start with but now it's fine. Strange after struggling so much first 2 times.

Vag, we're just going for the day. It needs to be dry as I am taking DD in the sling!

VagolaJahooli · 14/09/2012 21:08

You can see why I just kept going with both boys. Took a bit to get it started thought I may as well keep it going. You know Kayz you'd be a good Breastfeeding helper/supporter/consultant. You've seen it from both sides. I always imagine how annoying it must be to get BF support from people who had it easy.

JumpJockey · 14/09/2012 21:22

Hello ladies, how I miss you but am totally unable to get on at work to keep up properly :( so just very quickly while tea burns cooks
Beans am saying big prayers for your lovely Dad and you.
And
RT crikey how massively exciting! Big co ngratulations!

KiwiPanda · 15/09/2012 07:07

RT I had huge problems with feeding with DD1 (wouldn't latch on, position problems, seven weeks of excruciating thrush, two bouts of mastitis etc) and none at all with DD2 (apart from bout of mastitis/blocked boob a few months ago) so I think it can be totally different w different babies. Anyway as I think Vag said, you can always give it a whirl and if it's not working, stop?

A friend of mine just had her third last night . However since it was twins she also had her second about 2 minutes before Grin

I warn you all, I seem to be the centre of some kind of twins epidemic. FOUR of my closer friends have had twins in the last 6 months.. Grin

I was just bought breakfast in bed by DH with his waitresses DD1&2, which was very nice.

In other thrilling news, one year after we moved in we finally got our proper oven installed Grin

McKayz · 15/09/2012 08:49

How are you meant to feed a baby who keeps grinning at you instead?Grin

Indith · 15/09/2012 09:32

:) Kayz

Hurrah for the oven! What are you going to bake Kiwi?

VagolaJahooli · 15/09/2012 11:12

Oh Kayz one of my most beautiful memories of both boys babyhood is them latched on and grinning up at me. Too cute.

Kiwi Hooray for the oven. And what was the occasion for the breakfast, or was it just making up for all your single parent weeks. DH is back but on the phone to his business partner. The African bank was so impressed they want him back next week to do more work, but it is not really possible because his other contract have already been very nice to allow him this last week off at short notice.

Can I just do a little Hooray dance DS2 is being so sweet this week, we have had no screaming matches and have been really each others company. This morning he told me I was wonderful & loved my hair. I realise it might not be the end of the torture-use 3's just yet but it is nice to see the nicer side of his personality.

Someone was mentioning that there bub was hitting themselves while trying to get to sleep. I'm not sure if you were worried about what this meant or why they do it. But if you are worried, don't, while it doesn't look very nice, it is just them trying to sooth themselves. They are literally trying to pat themselves they way you do when you are settling or holding them. Like shushing & patting. It's just a little harder to co-ordinate their movements so it comes out a little more like hitting.

VagolaJahooli · 15/09/2012 11:14

Oh & trace if your there, I hope your resting up & carbo loading. Make sure you can get some liquid carbs at around 9miles.

KiwiPanda · 15/09/2012 13:22

Vag I need to get some gels or those sachet things too. Got to do a 12 miler tomorrow so might take one with and see
if it helps. Any recommendations? From what I dimly remember from my Tri days they are all pretty vile tasting ...

KiwiPanda · 15/09/2012 17:03

Hey ladies if anyone is around - quick one - Dd2 been massively sick several times this afternoon. No temp but very upset and clingy. Any suggestions? She's fed (boob) loads and have given her some water too. Should I steer clear of certain foods - she's a total fruit aholic but maybe not best thing for a dodgy tum?

JumpJockey · 15/09/2012 17:43

Dry toast or crackers? Gives her a bit of salt and quite bland.

RTchoke · 15/09/2012 17:43

I Would steer clear of all foods Kiwi. If you can just stick to BFing I'd do that. If she really wants food them maybe rice. I think you are meant to avoid dairy and acidic stuff (like some fruits). I hope she feels better soon.

KiwiPanda · 15/09/2012 18:00

I gave her some dry toast but then she saw her sister eating a pear and went mental until she got some. Grin was weird actually, I think maybe she got something like a hair in her throat because she doesn't seem ill at all now, happy playing now. Strange. Thanks for advice tho!

VagolaJahooli · 15/09/2012 21:29

Glad she is feeling better Kiwi. It could have been that. As far as replacement drinks, see if you can find out what drink the race you have entered, provide during the event. Then you can get used to it. Also find out at what point in the race they provide it. I don't like the gels as they have the consistency of snot & taste yukky. Also they are a waking great dose of simple carbs which, due to them not being taken with any complex carbs, cause a sugar high, which alerts your body to send out a load of insulin, but as they are simple & there are no complex ones to use up the excess insulin, they then cause a sugar low, & you end up with less energy than if you hadn't had anything. The best thing to do, is every 5 miles after the first 10miles, is just have a few sips of an energy drink, maybe 50-100ml at the very most, but sip it over a mile. Or take some jellybeans along and have a jelly bean every couple of miles. You don't need anything but water for the first 10miles for a full marathon. Does that make sense.

McKayz · 15/09/2012 22:23

Trace just popping on to say good luck for tomorrow and I hope you enjoy yourself. I'll keep an eye out for you on the tv.

JamInMyWellies · 16/09/2012 07:36

Good Luck Trace!

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 09:07

Yes good luck Trace! Thinking of you. Am about to do my 12 miler. Have absolutely zero energy. Maybe I sent it all to you Grin

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 09:08

Ps Vag several people have told me to try jelly beans. Just seems so odd! Need to find some vegetarian ones I guess

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 09:11

Sorry forgot to add if you read this Trace send us your race number so we can follow you online?

McKayz · 16/09/2012 09:22

Kiwi Jelly Belly beans are vegetarian. We had them as wedding favours so I checked that they were suitable.

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 09:27

Oh thanks Kayz! Excellent i can probably just find them in local shops then.

JamInMyWellies · 16/09/2012 09:28

DH has just left to do a 20 miler, in prep for NY.

Think you are all mental but good luck.

Oh and kiwi DH uses SIS go fuel energy powders and if doing a super long run uses gels cant remember the make. But he always says he never touched what hey provide for the race unless its the same brand he uses all the time as it can mess with your tummy and make you need a poo in a hurry.

McKayz · 16/09/2012 09:48

I am so tempted to start running. Maybe I'll aim to do the great north run next year Grin

My step dad is doing the Loch Ness Marathon in a fortnight. We keep winding him up saying the monster will eat him.

KiwiPanda · 16/09/2012 13:20

Well having just done a 12 miler I think i will be fine without gels. A bit of water at some point will be fine. Fresh legs on the other hand would have been much more useful .. Having done 40 miles this week I may need a new pair. Last few miles were a whole world of pain .. On the plus side i got completely lost after about 4 miles and discovered a lovely nature reserve.

DD2 fine today. Don't know what the puking was about. Well, fine if grumpy from teething
