Dec 08 Mums - still biffing on

Yes, yes, it's a bit lame. I wanted to say: "Still fucking on!" but wary of causing offence....

I know 'biffing' is a bit PG Wodehouse, as well. You'll just have to humour me Grin

DS2 still towers over loads of children the same age. He was 58cm when he was born!! My brother and my BIL are 6'4" and 6'6" so I guess DD might be tall!!

Vag, do you know the youngest age for getting a bike seat for DD? I've been having a look but they all seem to just say suitable for babies up to 22kg etc

I feel very fat Sad The June 2012 ladies are talking about weight loss on our facebook page. One of them is 10st 4lb and says she desperately needs to lose weight. I am 16st 2lb. I really want to cry, but I have lost 7lb in 10 days.

Indith · 24/08/2012 15:40

Different starting points and a different ideal in mind perhaps. It doesn't matter. Eat a sensible diet, take a reality check on your portions and try to fint some exercise in and you will lose weight. It won't be a quick weight loss but it will be gradual and sustainable. I know the exercise thing is hard with a small bf baby and will be doubly hard when dh goes away again but maybe you can get a couple of dvds- something like the Erin O'Brian post natal one to work on your core and pelvic floor then once you are happy with that and know you can do it without ruining your tummy muscles move onto the Shred. They are easily done at home in very little time so you don't have to have dh there. Or are there any classes you can go to while your mum babysits? Or is that too much with driving lessons and cake course too? I went to Body Balance for the first time last ngiht as ds2 is happy to settle for dh rather than milk between 7 and 10. It was great, I will have to mix it with things like a cycle or running as it doesn't work up a sweat but it targets each bit of your body and you can certainly feel your muscles the next day! It is all about posture and the core too so great for post natal tummies.

I think the writing thing is just a personality issue. DD1 is not very physical - she is lazy (always wanting to be carried) and despite having it for ages is still frankly a bit rubbish on her scooter. She just loves drawing and sees letters as an extension of that, so spends loads of time doing it and therefore has tonnes of practice. She also regards workbooks (the kind you buy or get in the cbeebies mags) as a massive treat and much prefers doing a few pages of them before bed than being read a story.

And hey she does have two writer parents Grin

I make little babies too. We regard DD2 as
a chubster in comparison to her "big" sister who was 2nd centile all the way - but she's really only around 25th centile or something. Not that I've had her weighed for about 5 months Grin

VagolaJahooli · 24/08/2012 20:22

Kayz maybe that lady is a midget. 7lb in 10 days sounds pretty good. I'm with indith too, strength building stuff which you cab easily do at home is really good and is finally starting to shift my weight. I can definitely recommend having a look at the 'Women's fitness' magazine it has some good tips on nutrition and lots of exercises and circuit training stuff to d
Kayz for the bike seats you generally you need to wait until they can sit up an unassistedd hold their headolo well soser to 10 months. We started off in a bike iler with a seat insert thing for bas, t nths. Over here people either put ctsthe baby ca carpsule thing into their box bike things, 's fr'sont box or on a special clip thing on the back of their bikes or just wear them in a sling.

Indith · 25/08/2012 17:44

Argh!

So dd sometimes gets carsick. This has always so far been when going on motorway to inlaws or my parents then she is sick in the last few miles on bendy roads off the motorway. Tuesday night she was sick lots and lots with a tummy bug. Sick in the morning too but stopped by 10am. Nothing since although appetite not quite as normal. Today went to Newcastle to a museum. Got home, she got out of the car, walked into the middle of the kitchen, said "it looks like I'm going to be sick" and showered the floor repeatedly with vomit.

Carsick or the tummy bug coming back?

She still looks rather green. Normally not been that bothered by carsickness.

God I hate vomit.

VagolaJahooli · 25/08/2012 21:03

Oh no Indith, that is gross, I can practically smell it.Ll it.Actically smeOh no Indcan pr

VagolaJahooli · 25/08/2012 21:20

What the hell is happening with this tablet, it keeps having a seizure whenever I type on here.

VagolaJahooli · 26/08/2012 18:48

Oh no my dodgy tablet broke the thread.

McKayz · 26/08/2012 19:18

I've just got DS2 the weirdest birthday present. He is obsessed with the Hairy Bikers. So we are going to the BBC Good Food show in November to see them. He will be so excited!!!

Indith · 26/08/2012 21:14

Sounds fun Kayz.

Vag your tablet is rather odd!

I love our local National Trust place. Yet another lovely day there today with the dcs spending ages hounding the volunteer at one of the nature discovery places. Dd now knows lots about bird calls and ds1 has been handling nests :)

sybilfaulty · 27/08/2012 09:45

We are going to the NT place in Morden today. I bloody love the NT - all those great days out and lots of activities to keep the punters happy. We are members so it's free (ish) - worth the annual family subscription (about £70) for a few visits and there are LOADS of places.

Kayz, good for DS seeing the hairy bikers. I expect M would like to see the stars of the Great British Bake Off. I love Mary Berry and think the Hollywood is a bit of a silver fox, if a bit lardy. One of my Tuesday highlights - record and then we have a family viewing on the Wednesday. Always accompanied by promises of bread making which we have never quite managed!

Right, must get moving. Hope the holiday girls are having a good time and that we are all blessed with calm and charming children today.

ove to you all.

VagolaJahooli · 27/08/2012 09:49

It is Indith it seems to have developed a language of it's own. I do love it, but if it gets a bit tired it goes a bit funny writing on here. Maybe I should use the mumsnet app instead.

DH is in the doghouse this morning. He had to leave super early this morning and so was long gone by the time the boys and I got up for school. Usually on a monday I get up at 6 for a run but as he had to leave early I didn't. So instead we all had a little lay in and were running a teeny bit late for school, nothing bad but instead of being first in his class which ds1 loves being he would probably just make the last bell by the time we parked his bike. So at 8.15 when we are normally at school I was running around the house looking for my bike keys which have the house & shed keys attached. I rang DH to ask if he knew where they are....long story short they were in my bike lock (dutch style integrated bike lock on bike), safe and sound in our locked shed! The only other key was at that moment snug & warm in DHs laptop bag in Amsterdam. At this point with less than ten minutes to get to school I hung up on poor apologizing DH thew the kids in our old clapped out Quinny Zapp and ran the whole way to school. It usually takes 5 mins on the bike, but we managed it in just under 7 minutes! (It would have been less if I hadn't hit that curb and sent the boys flying) I was very sweaty by the time we got to school, but at least we weren't late.

Kayz that is awesome about the Hairy bikers, I love them too, they are so cute and cuddly. I love the way they cook so naturally & easily, making really interesting yummy food look effortless.

McKayz · 27/08/2012 10:54

Sybs, on the Wednesday and Saturday they have Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood there. I'm going to spend a fortune!!

VagolaJahooli · 27/08/2012 11:42

Hey Kayz I just remembered, I had a dream last night that you were about to have another baby and I was supposed to be your birth support person, but I had to go to a wedding or some formal function and I missed the birth. I made it up to you by buying you some chocolates.

Indith · 27/08/2012 13:42

Oh dear Vag. At least you made it!

I love Mary Berry, I want to cuddle her and have her teach me baking by the aga and let me lick the spoon.

I need to get all Mary Berry, village show soon, am planning on trying to at least keep my second place in the victoria sandwich category and take on the village queen of apple pies.

Beans36 · 29/08/2012 08:24

Hello! Heading home from hols today and will catch up later. Just marking my placeas had lost you all. Lots of news. Long drive today.
Lots of love
X

KiwiPanda · 29/08/2012 11:32

mmmm baking talk. cake. want cake. Grin

How is everybody today? I did my running club 3 mile handicap race last night, was a bit brutal at the time but very nice pub trip afterwards, they are a very sociable bunch and I discovered two other runners who I've been on smiling/nodding terms with who also both have two kids, so we were bonding over the joys of running away from small children ..

DD1 was a right grump this morning though. took her to nursery, she annnounced she was very tired and needed to go to bed. At 8am. Having slept (for a change) a decent amount and only got up at 6.15 which for her is a lie in.... Confused

LadyThompson · 29/08/2012 12:10

Ladies, the reason for my extended absence is (partly) that we have had no broadband for days (grrrrrr) and I am legging off to Eindhoven in the morning (Vag, I would have come to see you but Eindhoven was the cheapest place I could find in Aug). It's going to be a pretty mega catch up when I return. Love to all.

Hi everyone. I'm back safe and sound from our first camping trip. It was fun despite the grotty weather. I've had a quick read through but can't remember much.

I also love Mary Berry and I've been thinking about going to the cake and bake show in September to see her there.

Impressed by those Dec 08 children who are writing etc. DS can't hold a pencil properly and refuses my offers to show him how. He thinks he can write 'E' but it wouldn't be recognisable to any one other than his doting parents.

Have a good trip, LadyT!

spotofcheerfulness · 29/08/2012 14:30

No writing here either, just lots of lines that "attach up". However (ridiculous mummy boast), my two are both good with numbers - T can count up to twenty in three languages, and B in two. Trufax.

Feeling a bit meh about life at the mo - it's like we're in a huge limbo not knowing what we're going to do for work or where we're going to live. Have worked out that we can't stay here because it's too expensive, so are looking at other options that are towards the east of the country (my mum is in Cambs, DP's in Lancs), near enough a large centre of population for jobs, or doable to London in the day if we're both self-employed. We're both applying for things, but the market out there is really poor, and it's not helping that we're not madly enthusiastic about what we're applying for either.

So I'm going to focus on finishing my book and getting it out (prob next month) and then at least I can properly focus on other stuff.

Never heard of Mary Berry - who is she? It sounds like she has something to do with cake though, so on that count alone I like her.

Have a lovely time, LadyT - happy adventuring!

spotofcheerfulness · 29/08/2012 15:06

I take it all back about Mary Berry after seeing this article. Makes me feel very sad.

VagolaJahooli · 29/08/2012 17:05

Just read the article you linked to Cat, Crikey I'm a crap huisvrouw (housewife in Dutch, doesn't make it sound any more interesting).

Jordi can count to 20 but for some reason skips a number & calls 11 eleventeen. He is however unbelievably agile and will climb absolutely anything. The other day he scaled a difficult climbing wall, which his mate who is 8 months older couldnt get past the lower part. His brother is the same, I think they get it from DH.

Kiwi I love running club post run pub meals. Yum.

Lady eindhoven is longer by train than Antwerp. If I had a car I would come visit as it's only an hour & a half to drive. Are you going to Floriade, it's in Venlo

Indith · 29/08/2012 17:36

Oh Mary how you have fallen in my estimation.

KiwiPanda · 29/08/2012 18:00

Vag my mother in law who was a teacher (retired now) told me that "eleventeen" and "twenty-ten" (for 30) are most common counting mistakes. Or cutenesses as I prefer to think of them.

I can count to 20 in seven languages. Do I get a chocolate button-based reward? Grin

Beans36 · 29/08/2012 18:31

Hi everyone. Sorry for extended absence. Been in North Wales for a week or so.

DD1 can nearly count to 20 and can just about manage an I for the start of her name, but only just and it's sideways. But they're both into colouring massively and DD2 makes tiny little marks on the page. V sweet. I don't honestly care if mine aren't achieving at this age. It'll come with time. They're busy enjoying life without learning... Plenty of that to come!!i can safely say agility is not their strong point either. both trip over their own feet! Although DD1 has just called me into the bathroom where she's drawn a good heart with those bath crayon things!

Wales was heavenly, although there was a palpable gap where Dad usually is. Missed him terribly. But girls loved it and so did I and DH when he came for the weekend. Girls were so good doe the long car journeys, which I did in the daytime. A LOT of wee stops now DD2 is potty trained! But thank the lord for films on iPad and Peppa Pig!

I spent a lot of the week feeling fairly rubbish and have discovered I have an erratic heartbeat, which needs further investigation. Had an ECG and everything! It just makes me totally out of breath and aware of every heartbeat. It's v slow apparently And then I have the odd extra one. V weird and makes me tired.

Dad in SO much pain and feeling like he's got no quality of life at the moment. Poor him. And poor Mum is going through it with him every step. Added to that, my Grandpa (97) was taken to hospital yesterday with a seizure and has succumbed to pneumonia. He is not being treated and being allowed to die peacefully. He is hanging on at the moment, but he's Mum's Dad and I think she is feeling actually quite relieved as he's been talking about wanting to die for months now. Granny is still alive, but has dementia at 94 and we're not sure how she'll take it.

Fun fun fun here.

Girls gorgeous though. Especially as term starts next week. Oh yay!
