LMF rice krispie buns!!! No kiddy party is complete without! Hope octoboy is a bit better, poor you, you must be so exhausted. Can't believe you're managing to organise a party too.

Oh dear shrieking baby better run, sorry to not reply to anyone

aethelfleda · 18/07/2012 16:02

One of those packets of cocktail sausages that look a bit like willies. Kids always love em.

BJR · 18/07/2012 16:38

Oh dear LMF hope Octoboy gets better soon. The party sounds good, I love bouncy castles :o Food sounds great too although I will second the cocktail sausages vote from Aethel!

My daredevil baby has had a nasty bump today Sad I put him in his cot while I got everything together to go to a baby group (I though he'd get into less mischief in the cot) and he stood up and let go then went down really heavy onto his forehead. He cried lots but looked ok, by the time I got to the baby group it had started to bruise. First aider checked him over and said he looks ok and seems his normal self though.

Any ideas on how to make the cot safer? I'm a bit stumped bar getting him to sleep in his travel cot all the time. Or will this wobbly phase pass quickly?

Figgygal · 18/07/2012 19:21

lmf it's not a kid party without a marshmallow top hat it's pretty much the only party food I can prepare and even at my friend's 30th birthday we were sensationally excited at the site of our marshmallow tophats.

Must be the day for it injury wise bjr lo call Sebastian's head on his court this morning and now has a scratch above his eyes he looks like Harry Potter.

Have finally got my appetite back so treated self to a double chocolate muffin on the way home for pudding so lo has had his first taste of chocolate and cake tonight yet again went down the hatch.

Dh is off on a birdwatching evening so once Danny has gone to bad we're going to catch up on more non dh friendly crap TV. Happy days!!

KateM77 · 18/07/2012 20:08

DS is now 20lb 4oz so firmly above the magic 9kg and ready to move into his big boy car seat Grin. I had a good chat with the HV about his lack of eating, and not sleeping through. Plans now are to continue with a mixture of purees and finger foods and for me to try not to stress about how much he is or isn't eating. She thinks that by the 8 month check he'll have cracked it, that some babies are just slower to get there (or lazy!).

As for the sleeping, going cold turkey and refusing to feed him at night isn't an option for me because the resulting fallout would wake DD, so I'm going to try reducing the night feeds by an ounce each night and see what happens. The hope is that he won't start waking more frequently (possibly wishful thinking) and that we'll get to the stage where he doesn't need anything overnight. If we crack that, hopefully his appetite for food in the daytime will increase too, although she said I may not see the effect on his appetite for a week or two. Potentially some long and rough nights ahead, but it'll be worth it if we can get him to sleep through. Please remind me I said that when I'm moaning over the coming days!

figgy what on earth is a mashmallow top hat? I feel like I've had a deprived childhood missing out on it Smile

LittleMissFlustered · 18/07/2012 20:22

I'm with Kate, what the jeff if a marshmallow tophat?!

NorthernChinchilla · 18/07/2012 20:29

I third the marshmallow top hat query! By the way LMF, I'd say it sounds lovely but needs more chocolate/biscuits?

OP posts:
LittleMissFlustered · 18/07/2012 20:40

My written list has biscuity goodness on it. I just failed to type it >_

Figgygal · 18/07/2012 20:43

Ladies you will be amazed by the simplicity of the top hat......its a marshmallow with melted chocolate on top and then a smartie On top.

Maybe its an Aberdeen thing (we did create the deep fried mars bar) but even now they are the best food ever!! Every year we make them for our bday parties and its just wrong without them.

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 18/07/2012 20:47

Never heard of Marshmellow Top Hats before - interesting. Not that I would eat them, Marshmellows are vile Confused

Sky loves Spaghetti Carbonara Smile Darcie has been given homework for the summer from Junior school and she is extremely happy about it Hmm at least it will keep her busy Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 18/07/2012 21:34

Glad to hear there are biscuits involved LMF! How's the little Octoboy doing, is he any better and/or less spewy?

Good luck on the night-weaning Kate, sounds like it'll be tough, but you never know- we always assume the worst and then sometimes it goes really smoothly and all to plan! By the way, the car seat thing- DS now at least 20lb (can't remember what DP said when DS was last weighed Blush) and I'm wondering if we need to move him up a car seat size too? I know they're given ratings to say which age groups it covers. Need to dig out the instruction thingy and have a look, oooops....

Sorry to hear we have some headbangers today, hope all the LOs are OK!

Knackered here; early start, a four hour meeting followed by an hour long one, and at home fed DS, got him ready for bed, bf'd him, and then it's been two lots of washing, one lot of drying, one lot of putting the drying away and cleaning the bathroom!

DS had some houmous(sp?) today on bread for his lunch and actually really enjoyed it, to my surprise. But why, why did nobody warn me about the poos Shock? When he was bf'd they were almost nice, but now...

Going to flop in front of 24 hours in A&E, little bit of evening gore

KateM77 · 18/07/2012 21:49

Thanks northern, lets hope it goes ok. As for car seats, you don't have to move them, but I want to because poor DS' feet have been hanging over the edge for ages now, and wedged up when in the car, plus he's bloody heavy to lump about in it. Group 1 is next size and does until approx age 4. Or you can get a seat which does groups 1-3 and therefore goes up to approx age 12.

KateM77 · 18/07/2012 21:51

Oh, and you think the poo is bad? Just wait until you get the first 'proper' sick!

mopsytop · 18/07/2012 22:10

figgy in our house a top hat is melted chocolate poured into a mini cupcake paper, stick a marshmallow in, then a dab of choc on top to stick the smartie on. When it sets pop it out and hey presto, a marshmallow top hat! Yum!

Other favourite party stuff was marshmallow krispie squares-you melt toffees, marshmallows and a little butter and golden syrup and mix in rice krispies and leave to set. Also yum!

And chocolate biscuit cake, naturally! And caramel squares (millionaire's shortbread) where you make the caramel with condensed milk.

God am making myself crave all these things!!

mopsytop · 18/07/2012 22:15

I wasn't going to have a first bday party for minimopsy as it's only a week before Christmas but I think I might now have to so as to make all these party treats!

seven77 · 18/07/2012 22:22

lmf what, no cheese and pineapple hedgehog? Shock. I second rice krispie cakes, and it's not a party without party rings. I'd never heard of a marshmallow tophat either.

figgy there's nowt wrong with crappy TV, I watch sex and the city when DH is at work. I might treat myself at the weekend and watch dirty dancing.

Hope all of the banging babies aren't too bruised tomorrow! I can tell that Eva is thinking about pulling up. I think she'll manage within the next few days so I'm sure we'll be joining in soon enough!

LittleMissFlustered · 18/07/2012 23:56

Northern Studues suggest that babies are safer facing rear for as long as possible. As long as they are under the maximum weight for their particular car seat and their head doesn't come above the top of it they're best in their group 0 seat. In fact, the best cars eats are those that reargace until the child is four, but they're uncommon and expensive over here:/

Pet peeve: putting babies forward facing early because 'they look so grown up'

Octoboy is chesty, but has hung onto his stomach contents for the last 16 hours:)

I have crocheted six rounds of granny square this evening while watching Lewis. If this rock and roll lifestyle continues I may well die young:o

LittleMissFlustered · 18/07/2012 23:58

Seven no hedgehog, but I think some cheese is a cunning plan, thank you:)

KateM77 · 19/07/2012 01:28

Ah, cheese and pineapple hedgehog. That was obligatory. We always had Brown blancmange (sp?) rabbit and green jelly grass too. Mum had a rabbit-shaped mould. In fact she still has it [smile

Sitting listening to the monitor. Not sure what possessed me but I got brave and just gave DS water and then a dummy when he woke at 1. Then I snuck out to go for a wee. He's never taken a dummy before, but all is still quiet bar a bit of snuffling, so I'll see if i can get back to sleep now

LittleMissFlustered · 19/07/2012 03:36

Hoe he's fast over for you.

Lots of Banbury here yonight, but I think I'm going to survive. It all hinges on this next stretch, if I get two or three hours it'll Ll be five.

aethelfleda · 19/07/2012 07:45

Nrg. DS snotty cold overnight abd woke four times.
Dh gets a though, for doing the 2am bottle and settling him at 4am afterwards. Have just been thrown up on this morning, oh the glamour of motherhood....

DeterminedandSpecialMum · 19/07/2012 07:59

My Bean's last day at infant school today...feeling emotional, that my baby is growing up too fast Sad

OiMissus · 19/07/2012 09:19

dsm they do grow up too fast and it is heartbreaking that I have to sacrifice my clothes shoppi budget to buy him clothes when everything stops fitting all of a sudden and it's July and all he has are tshirts and shorts.
Kate the last two nights BOi has had a dummy. he's never taken one before, but, like you, I need to cut out the night feeds to get him to sleep through. Last night he slept very well in his cot from 8-11.30pm, he woke slightly when we disturbed him to go to bed, so I forced a bottle down him - he took about 4 - 5 oz. It wasn't much longer after that he started to grumble a bit, so the dummy went in, and he went back to sleep. This happened a couple of times when the dummy slipped out, but they were only slight grumbles, and he was immediately placated. He therefore pretty much slept through. No feed at all last night. Hurrah!
I am really hoping that the dummy is just a short term sleep-trainer. I don't want him to depend on having one to go to sleep. But I just want him to get through the night without needing a feed.
Northern BOi tried a very garlicky hummous an breadsticks on MOnday and he was completely unphased by it. chomp chomp chomp! And he actually ate the breadstcik - with toast he makes it into mushy clumps and bits go down but most end up on the floor. The breadsticks were devoured! And I also love a bit of 24hrs in A & E. (Not looking forward to next week, there was a clip about a little girl getting burnt - the clip had me whimpering.)
Proper sick?? Oh no. no. no. no.

KateM77 · 19/07/2012 09:22

I am in Shock DS slept until 5.40am, had a 6oz feed, and then slept until 7.30. By this time yesterday he'd had 12oz already. I'm not getting hopes up that every night will go so well, but will stick at it.

KateM77 · 19/07/2012 09:26

Oi x-post. Well done BOi! I'm not sure how long the dummy stayed in. DD has one for sleep, and sleep only. I never wanted to give a dummy, but needs must, and she's slept beautifully since 6months old. We now of course need to get rid of the dummy!

DS likes hummus on pitta too. And falafels Grin
