N had hovered about the 0.4th centile but his last 3weights were below even that :( no idea what he weighs not since it's not been done for a while. Think hv said he's due an 8 month check - great, gives her another chance to lecture me on how he's too small and how he should be eating so much. Not like we don't try, you can't force him to eat, and that's not gonna improve til we get his constipation sorted. Feel very :( about it all. He did actually p

PenguinArmy · 21/06/2012 21:08

she was born 25th centile (6lb 12.5oz) but was a slow gainer and only gained 1 pound in months 6-9 taking to from 2nd down to near the 0.4th. She weighs 10.6kg now which is 23.5lbs (she is in 12-18 clothes as well). I think because she started walking in that time, it affected the weight even more so.

He did actually poo today and has had a little solids but keep feeling like the improvement is only ever temporary and in a couple if days we're gonna be back to the screaming at food stage. Sigh

Better news, we're off to see the red hot chili peppers on Sunday, first gig since N was born. We saw kings of Leon while I was pregnant (awesome), and when he's bigger he'll be coming to gigs too. Just reminded myself, we got him a kol sleep suit, and he may just be big enough for it now!!

Scheherezade · 21/06/2012 21:17

Oh no lookout is it bedtime soon for LO? I can't wait till this time of night, adult time!

C is 21lbs, 75cms. And he was 4wks early! I do wonder if it was anything to do with my diet when preg Blush his 6-9m clothes aren't tight or anything though, still lots of wear left.

PA interesting to hear you are vegan. Do you mind me asking why? The guy who owns the stables I work for keeps chickens as pets (seriously, they all have names and roam the farm/acres at will till he locks them up for the night- they have huge pens with food/water/shelter and big comfy henhouses). He also looks after the various ducks and geese that have taken up residence there. They lay LOADS of eggs (like, 10 a day!) and so he gives us lots for C :) he seems to know which ones are fertilised and leaves those hens/eggs. But you have to remove the 'barren' ones else they go off and hens crush them/get smelly/bacteria/rats etc. Being quite a country girl, I never knew why people didn't eat them? Like I say, these hens aren't kept for eggs, most of them are rescues from friends who have died or too ill or old to look after the animals anymore. He's not a well off guy, so the eggs are like a free natural food, like the blackberries and sloes that grow.

The ducks are amazing, they know what time.everyday they get fed and all come up in a line with.the ducklings following behind! I do wish he wouldn't feed the geese though, horrible creatures Angry

Hope that works, unlike my last post. Curse my fat fingers and stupid iPhone!!!!!!!!

And hello overeaction :), please excuse me I'm not having a good day

Overreactionoftheweek · 21/06/2012 21:58

Thanks for the welcome everyone. I've had chocolate and am drinking wine so feel much better about ds's sleep habits! He's really not that bad, PMT makes everything look worse.

ipswich so jealous of your gigs, haven't been to one for flipping ages. Hope the HV doesn't make you feel too miserable and N is ok.

strawberry penguin ooh, birthday twin! it's also my brother's birthday which really annoyed my fil as he and my bil are the day before...I held out just long enough Wink

Is anyone else's baby showing signs of separation anxiety? I used to be able to leave mine happily playing while I went into another room but he screams now. He's still fine with other people thankfully, as much as I love being needed, it's lovely being able to pass him around!

Cheshire thanks for the dm, have sent one back as I can't find you!

Scheherezade · 21/06/2012 22:01

Hello overreaction good to have some fresh blood Grin

strawberrypenguin · 21/06/2012 22:01

Aww ips sorry you and N are having a touch time. Don't worry about the HV/ solids as you said his solids will pick up once his poos sorted. You know N as long as you know he's ok (not counting poo your dealing with that) don't let the HV bully you.
They tried to tell me W shouldn't still be dropping through the percentiles when he was a couple of months (he was over 75th for weight when he was born) and he's held steady on 25th for ages now, he was just massively fat when he was born as I had GD and he needed to find his true weight iykwim. I guess what I'm trying to say is a lot of the time HVs base things on a bit of paper not the baby in front of them.

over x post. Grin at your FIL being upset you missed his birthday. My edd was my sisters birthday but I was induced early, she was quite pleased though she didn't want to share her birthday!

is that 0.4th corrected as well then?

it is stressful when they are on the small side but I didn't have any bother with HCPs as I seemed to have sensible ones who just looked at her and then declared her fine.

I have been having some success with the tommee tippy beaker, the 4m one with the free flow spout, however still nowhere near 60ml in a sitting. Today was the first day he seemed to suck on it, which might have something to do with the fact that the contents were orange juice.

sch basically I don't agree with intensive farming, but the health and environmental reasons have becomes bonus's. I believe most vegans are against the eating of meat on principle, whereas I am OK with that concept. Sadly very little food that is available to buy derives from conditions such as your friends chickens.

Scheherezade · 21/06/2012 22:16

N looks gorgeous and healthy on the fb photos :)

PenguinArmy · 21/06/2012 22:32

oh meant to say, separation anxiety is really common at this age and normally just a phase as they adjust to their new perceptions.

Scheherezade · 21/06/2012 22:39

We are lucky. Our neighbour sells chicken and duck eggs, 12 for £1.50!

C screams if anyone leaves the room, which was hard in hospital, when you have nurses coming and going.

sassy34264 · 21/06/2012 23:12

this is just to ips so feel free to skip it if you want. as it may be long. Smile

ips not sure whether i should post or not really- dont want to scare you, but there might be a nugget of info in here (even if you only realise later)

anyway, i had trouble with chloe dd1 and constipation. she had terrible colic as well. i was given lactoluse and supposities too. eventually it seemed to get better. unfortunately at about the age of 2 she started to get kidney/water infections. they were almost chain like at some point- she would get rid of 1 to have another 1 a week later.

we were in and out of clinics, hospitals, different departments and consultants. she had kidney scans and dye injected as they were worried about scarring from so many infections. it was at its worst at 8 years old.

i used to despair. id ask her if she needed a wee and she would say no, only to pee on the floor 2 mins later. i was worried to death that she would get picked on at school. i would send clothes and i talked to the school about it. she used to change when she was wet, until one day someone asked her why she took a bag into the toilet. Sad

so we arranged with school for her to go in staff toilet out of view, but she kept coming home wet. im ashamed to admit it but i use to shout at her. then it transpired that because it was a different skirt, she wouldnt chsnge in case they noticed. so then i had to buy 5 skirts all the same.

the point of that it to show you how bad the effects were.

it took 6 years to finally be referred to a specialist doctor, who explained 6years of despair (i would cry over her, over the sheer volume of washing, over it being never ending) in an hour.

it was all related to her constipation as a baby. he explained that she had probably had a really hard poo and it had hurt her and she had sub/consciously hung on to poos after that. (im still convinced the supposities did it -pain) this in turn had made her bowel stretch and had the effect of her taking longer to go the the toilet as it took longer to feel full and have that i need a poo feeling, which just made it stay stretched.

as there is only so much room in a persons body, the stretched bowel was pushing into the bladder, causing all the infections and stopping her from feeling the need to wee.

he prescribed movicol. and told us it might take the same amount of time, ie, 6 years to unstretch it. the problem with movicol though, is it is a trial and error amount. too much makes them have accidents and too less doesnt help. she would also have very runny poos that wouldnt be a lot but that would soil her knickers and he explained that this was fresh poo that was behind constipated poo and was leaking down the sides.

unfortunately she is still affected. she has had 2 infections this year. im always finding dirty knickers in the bathroom bin and she has had to go back to pull ups in the last 2 monrhs, after years of being ok. ive been prescribed movicol but im too scared to give it her. im waiting for the school holidays.

i wouldnt use the supposities. im convinced i hurt her so bad that that is what caused it. i would try the movicol route as this wasnt an option given to us at the start. if you type in movicol in google there are literally 20/30 stories just like mine. lactulose is always the 1st option given to everyone.

i know you are struggling to give him that amount of water, and he doesnt always take the full ebm but i would check with the doc and if ok, divide it into ebm and a water pure apple juice solution. chloe would only drink it in apple juice. just be careful you dont put him off ebm though.

sorry if this is not helpful.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 21/06/2012 23:13

Chatty on here tonight!! On phone so sorry but can't remember who says what...

S was on the 9th line at birth (6lbs2) but has moved up to around 50th for weight but 25th(ish!) for length. She is short and round just now as appose to being long and lean when born! I tend to have her weighed at end of each month (born on 30th) and at last weigh in she was 18lbs6 (I think!). She tends to gain just under 2lbs per month but has been a bit less the past few. She has a few 3-6 things but mostly in 6-9 no, in fact I bought 9-12 vest just the other day as they were feeling a little snug on her, plus with the reusable nappies, she needs a bit more space for her big butt Grin
Hope the movicol helps things along Sad. S was straining a bit tonight after dinner. First time in a while. I've been a bit slack with her fruit intake so prob hasn't helped.. Don't like to moan about it, but price of fruit and veg is crazy!! I like to make sure she has a good variety so I switch it up fortnightly when I go shopping and look what's on offer. Wish we had better weather to grow more of our own!
Tried her with some salmon last night which was a big hit! Ate more of that than the sweet potato and carrot mash!! The cats for once were helpful at meal times as they fought for the dropped bits of fish Grin

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 21/06/2012 23:17

sassy Sad poor C! How awful for her (and you!!)

Penelope1980 · 22/06/2012 08:42

We had the worst night since A was born last night! Ug. I don't think I got more than 4 hours sleep between both me and baby being sick. I am reaching for the caffeine today ...

BB3 · 22/06/2012 09:34

Hey ladies

Feels like I've been on a different planet this past week!

Ipswich, when n is constipated can you see the poo blocking his bottom (like hrs pushing but can't get it out) or can you not see anything at all? I only ask because Edith-May had a phase of horrible constipation where she just couldn't get her poo out. She ended up bleeding all round the area where she was forcing it so hard, anyway when she started to strain or kick with discomfort we put her in a warm bath and massaged the pop out.

Sassy, poor c, such a tough thing to do at this age.

We are all ok here. Ds has his operation in 10 days and I've found myself getting really down about his problems (which isn't helpful) but we just have to hope it helps with time. The girls are just great, full of character and just a joy to be around. Still crap sleepers though...

Hope everyone is ok x

BB3 · 22/06/2012 09:35

Sending virtual coffee and chocolate pene x

MamaMaiasaura · 22/06/2012 09:36

Only just refound you.

Overreactionoftheweek · 22/06/2012 09:49

sassy and ips :( really feel for you and the babes.

Sounds like a rough night pene hope you can sneak some sleep during nap time.

bb3 good luck to your ds with his op.

Tried my first bit of sleep training this morning...not exactly a huge success! We've always rocked H to sleep and gone in whenever he cries - but he's just getting too heavy now, plus he has self soothed before so I know it is possible.

I tried letting him cry for 5mins, then going in to shush and pat and stroke, then leave the room again. Took about half an hour for him to settle but he then only slept for 10 mins here and there. Eventually I heard him chattering away so got him up. His usual morning naps are 2.5 hrs if we're at home. He seems happy enough, blowing raspberries at me from his walker!

I'm going to persevere and hope he goes back to self soothing quickly (I think a nasty cold is to blame for him wanting cuddles again, he's better now but the habit is back).

LittlePebble · 22/06/2012 09:52

sassy poor C hope things get sorted over the holidays x
pene ditto hugs and coffee
ipswitch hope N is ok and poos! (glad I checked before posting message, autocorrect just changed that to pops....I don't hope he pops!!!)
BB3 hope op goes ok
Mama Grin how's J?

MamaMaiasaura · 22/06/2012 09:55

Quick update from us:

Jessica is 8 months today, crawling and cruising and taking steps holding dh hands. She bounces whenever music is on, so she's a right little mover Grin. Still bfing here, got nice routine tho had a few awful nights recently down to teething/earache. Jessica has set routine herself really:
Wakes around 6 and will bfeed and snooze or get up for a play
7.30 breakfast
930- bfeed and nap
12 lunch
2 bfeed and nap
5 dinner
6 bath
7 bfeed and sleep
11 dream feed
Wakes at 2 or 4am some nights, but in with me still so easy to settle.

Ds2 - had meeting with school for transition. Teachers seem lovely and very knowledgable. Had good and bad days. Hadn't been out much for weeks because of planes hurting his ears still but good days too. He's at preschool this morning. He also been really lovely with J now and affectionate except when she's crawls for his toys Grin

Ds1 had meeting at school te bullying and also academic stuff as he's been getting 7m in science projects but not so high in class and they are assessing for processing issues/dyspraxia. He's yr 7 so sooner they sort the better. This exam change would affect him as he'd be the first year, I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Been also feeling Sad about birth exp and not sure how to pull myself together. But I will.

Sorry been away so long x

Penelope1980 · 22/06/2012 09:56

bb3 hope you're feeling ok! And thanks for all the virtual Brew

A friend of mine has a 3 week old and asked me last week when A started sleeping through. I didn't have the heart to tell her he hasn't really ever done it!

MamaMaiasaura · 22/06/2012 09:58

Great little how's Eli? Saw he was 24lb! Wow, big boy Smile. I've not had J weighed for months. Clinic is always so busy and stressful with ds2 there too.
