Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Scheherezade · 04/07/2012 09:56

Oh, that reminds me, out if you're reading re:self settling. C still wakes occasionally in the night, if he doesn't sound like he's going back off on his own then I turn music on. Our monitor plays music, controlled remotely with the hand held/listening part. Last night he stirred at 11 and went off himself, then 3.50am woke up and wasn't going back to sleep, so I turned the music on and he went off, same at 6am.

When we put him down in the cot for naps and bedtime we turn the music on (just use one song) and now he associates that with falling asleep, so turning that tune on works 99% of the time. I also sing the same song to him when we co sleep or if I'm holding him for a sleepy cuddle.

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2012 11:57

Drs just called with results of ear swab. Bacterial infection and got to get prescription of gentamicin (antibiotic) drops for 4x a day for a weekShe's going to hate it Sad

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2012 11:57

Annoyingly been going on over a month and had to really push for dr to investigate Angry

lookout · 04/07/2012 12:42

Sche I've always been tempted to do that with ours but am too worried it'd wake him up more! So have never tried.

Mama Poor thing. Hope you manage with the drops. It's hard enough trying to get calpol down E, let alone drops. Sometimes GPs in this country really piss me off, they are so quick to brush things off. What made you think infection? I can never tell if it's teething or something more serious Confused

ipswichwitch · 04/07/2012 12:59

mama - bless her. how is she feeling? are you managing the drops? we're having a nightmare giving anything to N atm. dr just told us to calpol (Wink @ LP - i'm always looking to expand my vocabulary!!), offer fluids/milk often, and if he is still having nasty watery poos by tomorrow (looks like he will judging by todays efforts as described by his grandma) i have to take a sample in for testing. plenty of that to go around!! at least i'm off tomorrow, as theres no way nursery will have him - he has to be 48 hours without vomiting and he puked all over our bed last night again :(
we also had to repeatedly go to the drs before they took his constipation seriously enough to prescribe something, which (this week aside)seems to finally be helping. he was even getting better at eating solids.

i'm trying not to worry about his lack of feeding. he will take some water for me if i catch him just at the right time, and he will bf but not much. he has refused everything this morning, so hoping to get out of work early to try and bf.
scheh, we have a musical light up frog in his room, that also plays white noise. when we've got him bathed and ready for bed i put it on as he's having his feed and being put in his cot. like you say he's now associated that with sleep so generally he's now asleep within a couple of minutes of being put down and i can put him down awake now so he gets himself off to sleep. the noise did interest him a bit at first lookout but now he doesnt really pay much attention and for him seems to be the "go to sleep" signal. might be worth a go. this week he has managed to get off to sleep at bedtime to his white noise but only with me holding his hand. poor guy is really feeling sorry for himself :(

fuzzzy am very intrigued by owl hat.......must have missed that when i was reading upthread. am not very with it atm. tried to get in someone elses car yesterday!!! to be fair its the same make and model, even the same year. the locks on mine are a bit knackered and thought they had gone completely, only realised it was the wrong car when i saw a random coat on the back seat that def wasnt mine!! i practically commando rolled out of there in case there was an irate car owner about :)

lovinbeingmum · 04/07/2012 13:17

pene earthquake - scary - though it's a story forever....can imagine him as a little boy being told how he slept through a 7 pointer!

penguin lookout he's fine now....the tummy ear and other bugs are scary but honestly it's much better when docs can identify the reason for the high fever...in our case blood tests showed infection but they couldn't identify the location so had to go the whole meningitis route....i feel for you lemmings....baby having to go through all that on his first day in the world :(

mama you have one adventurous baby...bumps I guess will be a part of life in the next year or so :)

ips all the best for your little one...we swear by white noise in our house as well!

Scheherezade · 04/07/2012 15:04

:( hope all the poorly babies are better soon.

She'll be climbing trees (and breaking arms) before you know it mama

C doesn't pull himself up, but he's fast at commando crawling and never shuts up chatters constantly.

Thanks for messy play idea fuzzy, just had to wipe down highchair, sides, floor, walls and radiator! Hmm Grin on the positive my kitchen is gleaming!

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2012 16:07

ipawitch poor N Sad I think you are doig all you can. Personally I'd offer breast often/or ebm rather than water. That's what I have done with ds2 when he was poorly as a baby (we both had horrendous d&v bug... It was messy and just awful).

lookout ds2 had recurring ear infections (which they ignored alot and ended up likely he had glue ear which could have been partly why speech delay). J has excessive wax in one ear, which crystallises and smells very sweet. They finally swabbed it and has bacterial infection.

1st drop done and she was ok. It's 4 x a day but easier that calpoling.

Anyone else's baby raspberry when they don't want something. So cure, I need to video it Grin

Overreactionoftheweek · 04/07/2012 20:03

Hello again, I've been off t'internet for a few days and have ten new pages to catch up on!

Just wanted a bit of advice...anyone else's baby refusing milk? H loves solids, no worries there, but he now refuses milk and water both in bottles and in his cup - I know they're still supposed to have 3 bottles a day - is that for hydration or calcium or some other reason? Just not sure how worried I should be...he's only had 1.5 bottles today

Right, off to read all I've missed and look at the cute photos on fb!

lookout · 04/07/2012 20:12

Mama E raspberries in disagreement as well. Esp at the spoon when he's full up. It's an easy way for me to know when he's had enough to eat Grin How horrible for ds2 with the ear infections, and now J as well Sad. I'm also still Angry that the GPs were so slow to pick up.

ips I'd agree with Mama and say bf as much as poss. Loads of good stuff in there Wink

Over E has been on and off refusing milk for about the last 10 days. I think it's his teeth though cos as soon as one breaks the gum he feeds like a trooper until the next one starts hurting. Could be loads of reasons he's refusing, but if it goes on longer than a few days-week maybe see your HV or someone helpful?

Scheherezade · 04/07/2012 20:21

over can you try adding to stuff so he gets it that way? 4-5 oz in cereal, add some to omelette, make scones and add in, rice pudding etc?

LittlePebble · 04/07/2012 20:50

over e has been doing this last two days, since he got better and has been able to eat he's gone right off his milk. Not sure why I just decided to keep an eye on it..

TallyBear · 04/07/2012 21:17

Anyone else's lo not bothered about rolling or standing/pull themself up or anything? I tried to get him to crawl and he just flapped about like a beached turtle. He moved forward about 2 inches!

Mama hope the drops are going OK... Seb blows raspberries all the time. Especially fun when he has a mouthful of milk or dribble!

Ipswich Hope N recovering (so Sad to hear of all the sick babies). Is the light you mentioned the one from JoJo? I like the look of that one but don't know if it's too late to introduce now to best effect.

ipswichwitch · 04/07/2012 21:27

Yeah tally it's the frog one from jojo. We didn't get it til we moved him to his own room at 7 and half months and worked really well from about day 3. When I go in to feed through the night I put it on before I start and he pretty much drops off again straight after his feed. The laughs are quite pretty too, they get put on for my benefit Grin
N is not crawling/standing yet either. Think he really wants to get moving but hasn't sussed out how to yet.
No vomiting today (touch wood!) but still diarrhoea so he's got a day at home with me tomorrow. He's had a little fruit pudding and a fair bit of milk today, so will do plenty bf's tomorrow, have lots Of cuddles and a DVD day

ipswichwitch · 04/07/2012 21:28

Oh for gods sake that should be lights not laughs. Curse of iPhone strikes again

Scheherezade · 04/07/2012 21:29

Lo light up/musical/moving stuff would probably wake him up, but ours plays a gentle tinkly lullaby (hush little baby). No light, can turn the volume down. Whenever he wakes up I turn it on and he goes back off. I guess its a replacement for a dummy, as he won't take one.

C commando crawls, pulls up in cot but not furniture, jabbers incessantly. Pincer grips food, feeds himself blueberries and peas.

LittlePebble · 04/07/2012 21:38

outnumbered quick question - how is PUPD going? Since e was I'll he refuses to self settle at night and only wants to sleep on me or DP. I am trying to get him to sleep in his cot but it's taken forever and he's been heartbroken tonight. Keeps pulling himself to standing and screaming Sad

LittlePebble · 04/07/2012 21:38

Ill not I'll bloody iPhone

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2012 21:46

Got wide awake j.... Hmm cheeky girl.

Managed to get drops in and she was Sad.

ipswitch glad no sickness today, hope bottom end clears up x

lookout · 04/07/2012 21:59

TB no crawling yet. He'll stand happily if we hold him but doesn't pull himself up at all. He just rolls and kind of slides himself to where he wants to be Grin

Mama hope J gets back to sleep soon. I hate random wakings! Hope it gets easier with the drops too Sad

Sche ours just plays music too. Have started it this evening and he fell asleep with it on. Will try it in the night but really not holding out much hope pessimist. E refuses a dummy too.

ips glad to hear of the improvement, enjoy your cuddles day tomorrow (if anything it's a good excuse to not have to go to work Grin)

MamaMaiasaura · 04/07/2012 23:16

Asleep in bed with me now. I think she needs a massive poo.

strawberrypenguin · 04/07/2012 23:55

Tally frog from jojo is great we have it too. W falls asleep to the heartbeat sound and blue star lights and if he wakes too early (5am!) the sound being turned on is usually enough to persuade him back to sleep til his usual waking time.

Hope all the poorly LO's are on the road to recovery now

Hi all, sorry for those with sick and accident prone babes. L had had a black eye already and is currently sporting a green line down the side of his head from hittin the coffee table. This is the downside of mobile babies Sad

Sorry to be brief but I'm so worn out and can't keep up. L still waking every 2 hrs at night.

pebble pupd went great in that L can now go down awake and within 20 minutes (sometimes just 5) with some strokes and pats he is asleep. At first it was 50 mins. We didn't pick up all the time, just for the 'real' cries. When he pulls himself up we just gently lie him down (after prying his little fists free - he's so strong!). This can be quite repetitive but it does work.

It hasn't helped the night waking at all so that's our next step here, when I can muster the strength.

Scheh thanks for music idea, he has a thing on the cot that has a remote, which has never been used! Just found some batteries and will give it a go tonight.

lookout · 05/07/2012 05:29

Up at 4am. Again. I am exhausted and incredibly grumpy. Not even his lovely little face can make me smile this morning AngrySad

Outnumbered4to1 · 05/07/2012 05:57

Oh no lookout - that's the pits Sad

Well the music didn't work. But he went 3 hours so feeding him. Please give me a decent stretch now!
