This is the one that seems to get the thumbs up on here for 9kg plus rear facing
www.babyandco.com/itemdetl.php/itemprcd/Britax-Max-Way

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 01/07/2012 10:15

Might though go for www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_65+5001_10751_-1_14571_147807_10001_ as I like that it has the 5 point harness and more of an insert for when younger. I'll maybe go to mothercare a day and test her out in some. She is prob just hitting 9kg now but I'm in no rush to move her out her baby seat as its the most secure

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 10:36

the last one you linked goes up to 11 years so you wouldnt have to buy another.

not sure what the difference is between the one i labelled fancier and the 1st one you linked, apart from the bottom of it and the price. ??

i think rear facing ones become a bit defunct (not right but cant think of the word) at about 9mths. child will become very bored if they only have a seat to look at imo.

i think that the majority of ladies on here have quite a high disposable income, judging by how many comments like 'hire a nanny, cleaner, gardener, pay for this that and the other' gets banded about on other threads as advice.

im afraid we dont have a high disposable income and also my roots are firmly working class. which makes me Shock at some of the prices of things people will pay. i cant help it. Grin

waves to buffy sorry was meant to wave about 10 posts ago, but forgot.

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 10:38

by 'ladies on here' i mean mumsnet itself.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 01/07/2012 10:52

I know there isn't much difference to them, it was just one of the first ones I clicked on as I noticed it had 5 point harness. I've not made up my mind with them yet, still browsing! I've no disposable income either! Currently living on £500 a month Shock and by living I mean that's all I have to pay mortgage, bills, food etc. I'm actually secretly hoping that my parents might offer to buy as they were asking about it the other day and until I get a job, S will be getting nothing!
She is still quite happy in her baby seat. I got this www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/90176759/ to hang above her seat from the coat hook so she is happy to play with that or a toy

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 11:11

i just looked into this to justify being a skinflint

carseat britsh standards

and it conforms my thought process, which is- that the cheapest has past all the same tests as the dearest. so really you are paying for the look and/or the brand. they may try to get you with enhanced safety or such and such technology, but its still only does the same job as the cheapest.

trust me, when its full of crumbs/grease marks etc, it wont even look that nice! ha.

plus at £30 i could buy 10 until the twins are 11 and it would only cost me the same as one at £300.

see- working class logic. Wink

note-
btw, im not saying im right. no-one is right or wrong its just preference and the way each individual looks at things. Grin

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 11:21

out jacob has just took his back to front nappy off. he took his clothes off too- vest, long sleeve top, trousers and socks.

straight-jacket maybe?

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 11:23

and he can get over stair gates now too!

i think tiring him out on a day to day basis is the only way to go.

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 01/07/2012 11:34

All in one snow suit maybe Grin

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 12:09

nope. they have all in one fleecies for bedtime and they can both unzip and get out.

god chloe was a good child until she hit 10

Scheherezade · 01/07/2012 12:09

I'm also wanting the britax rear facing car seat, I posted a link about the benefits on my fb, will repost on the group. I can't afford it (don't think I even have that much in my account) but am going to ask our families to chip in for it for C's first birthday. Otherwise I'll just sell stuff on eBay for it.

ipswichwitch · 01/07/2012 12:13

Hello all! Hope all the babies (and grown ups!) are feeling better. N ha had a stinking cold all week, yesterday we thought he's finally getting better and that's when the vomiting started. He threw up all his feeds and was pretty unhappy. He's been sleeping pretty well lately but last night was waking loads a I eventually kicked DP out n brought N to bed with me. He puked all over the bed (and me!) and had giant poo at 3am :( he seems brighter today but not given him solids yet, but he keeps touching his ear so think yet another trip to drs may be in order. They're gonna think I'm totally neurotic and pfb as I've been back and forth loads already wih his constipation. Think we're getting somewhere with that finally, he in 10ml lactulose 2x a day and seems better for it so far.
Just had first full week at work n it was pretty grim. Hope to god it gets better :(
Looking at what all your babies eat I realise N is not such the bad eater certain people make him out to be (IL's i mean you!) He has 5/6 spoons porridge oats with ebm, lunch is cottage pie/lentil bake/pasta type dish (bout half Ella kitchen pouch type portion) with veg and bit pitta bread and fruit, tea is similar with yoghurt/rice pud. He doesn't always finish it but he's getting loads better with solids since he started nursery. Probably copying the other babies!
Off to try and catch up with the rest of the thread- you've been busy!

Between the brands, more so for bigger car seats, the are differences in the amount of side and head support. Plus rf is loads better. DD's seat which we got from the US is rear facing until 40lbs and the forward until 60 and was a fraction of the price of UK ones. dSs is rf until 30lbs and I hope to replace it with a better rf that goes up to four years. We got his in a bit of rush as we had just got to the uk and I was quite pg. most countries have higher specs than ours, US is rf until two years and a lot of countries are rf for even longer. A some point the uk government will switch and the car seat companies will make loads of money from people switching to car seats that are very hold to get hold of currently here. There is a great video showi how much better rf is than ff, maybe that is the one sch will link to, it really good to keep them as long as possible rather than turning them at the minimum weight (which isn't always by 9 months)

ClimbingPenguin · 01/07/2012 12:19

Sorry, bit of an essay there Blush and sorry if it sounds a tad patronising

ClimbingPenguin · 01/07/2012 12:20

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 12:42

it sounds like the sids advice- lay on backs. but in theory not always the best solution. especially if you have a colicy child or flat heads.

i think it would be hard if rf and your child is screaming/tantruming constantly!

but i'll concede that it is safer if thats the official party line. Wink

we've had to turn the child lock on, on the side of the car door, as jacob can pull his arms out of the belt and open the door using the handle.

ClimbingPenguin · 01/07/2012 12:58

I agree to some extent, but there are a lot of babies who are turned who are probably happy as they are because advice is misinterpreted to turning as soon as possible rather than leaving as long as possible. There are also babies who are happy staying rf as they don't know any different. DD is rf at 2.4, but she can see loads out the side and back, is always telling me when lorries and motorbikes go past or she see's sheep/horses in the fields. There was one phase where she preferred ff but she got through it relatively easy. Guess I'm saying you don't need to automatically turn them just because. Like hungry babies, it is sometimes viewed as a badg of honour 'oh look, johnnie is so grown up now, he is ff'

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 01/07/2012 13:00

So penguin you got your in America and it was cheaper? Wish I'd gave it more thought and looked when I was over there in may! Family coming home next year but prob won't be till September 2013. Wonder how much it would cost to have my aunt post one.... I'd much rather she was rear facing. Right I'll be looking into that this afternoon!!

FuzzzyDuckosaurus · 01/07/2012 13:01

Oh and what brand do you have? Grin

Scheherezade · 01/07/2012 13:10

Bigger, DP back from America today, could have got him to pick me one rf injuries 5x lower in infants. Scandinavia rf till 3 I think. Physics pretty simple if you think about how heavy a babies head is and the force exerted when braking.

sassy34264 · 01/07/2012 13:38

i suppose its different for me cos i have all 3 babies behind me. (not in passenger seat) and its bad enough with eva crying at times and nearly breaking my arm trying to stretch around wnd rock the car seat.

i also find it hard when giving them food. ive pulled over more than once to choking noises.

so i would/do chose forward facing. same as i chose laying on their fronts. and not blw and cio.

god, i sound like a rebel!

i think we are the more lenient country going over safety standards.

dp told me yesterday that they are changing the recipe for coco cola as an ingredient has been found to be cargenogenic (sp?) but only in usa not here.

im still drinking it though. Hmm

add thick to rebellious!

strawberrypenguin · 01/07/2012 14:17

Hi all, I'm back from the land of no phone/Internet don't think I could live there! but we had a fab holiday and Billy really enjoyed having more people around to entertain him (my parents and sis were with us)

Haven't really caught up yet, hope everyone is ok, thinking about the next car seat here too, he's starting to look squashed in his current one and isn't as comfortable.

I'm with you sassy it's a nightmare at the moment trying to pacify the twins when they start - I've just ordered a bigger seat for ds and the girls will go in his forward seating ones. Am weighing them tomorrow to triple check they meet the weight level then I'll change over. That way they might be less at risk as it wil stop me swerving everywhere as I'm contorting myself to get to one!!! Wink
