ClimbingPenguin · 05/09/2012 09:41

he's 10.5 months, he's birthday is in 5 week Shock

also we're moving house in a few weeks.

ClimbingPenguin · 05/09/2012 09:41

oh both mine burst into tears when I pick them up (Well DD not so much now)

rainbowweaver · 05/09/2012 15:52

cp That's nearly a year old! Time can't possibly have passed that fast. Last I heard he was just born... Shock Hope everything improving healthwise now? Drink lots of water.

mous no worries mine didn't want to leave nursery when we socialised her, so in the end we put her in to start earlier. That's a very good system there, wish they had it here. Which country are you in now?

sb My theory is your DS may be eating more as he's having less milk

SR

scones I think the stars were very helpful for us - we had only 1 star for a wee, but a large number for poos so she was very keen to add to her collection. Now she's not so interested in the stars though (no reward associated with greater number of stars other than to track how many she has)

rainbowweaver · 05/09/2012 15:53

mous and we can't pick her up too early otherwise she doesn't want to leave. She'll only leave when she has seen others going first. :)

Bearcrumble · 05/09/2012 18:57

SR I am so sorry you are in this horrible situation with your DH - I hope you find clarity on how to go on and what to do... ((hugs))

Just marking place really - will try to come back after ds is in bed tonight.

NK2b1f2 · 05/09/2012 20:25

Lagging behind a bit as far as topics are concerned...

dd2 has not had milk as a drink (or a bottle for that matter) since she was a year old - her choice, not mine. She has milk on her cereal and in some food (puddings, sauces). She also has yoghurt and a fair amount of cheese. She drinks water and has juice (proper, not squash) as a treat at weekends.

Mous - My dd1 doesn't want to come home with me... She stamps her foot and does a strange animal noise when I collect her, even if she's been at school for breakfast club at 7.45 and I am collecting her from after school care at 5! Apparently I am too early... If she had her choice, she'd sleep at school. Sadly they stopped boarding in the 90s... Grin

Bearcrumble · 05/09/2012 21:04

IC Congrats again to you all involved. He is gorgeous. Well done for getting out of hospital so quickly.

Stoof Lovely to hear from you but sorry the DCs have been so ill.

Scones Have you tried opening up a nappy and laying it in the potty for her to onto?

CP DS kept asking me if I had a willy a while ago. He's stopped now. I said ladies don't have wilies, only men and boys and he seems ok with that now. I think he knows that only women can have babies.

Talking of those sorts of topics - has anyone else had a talk about death with their toddlers? I'd feel a fraud lying about it so he does know that people and animals die - we were talking about great grandparents ('does granny have a mummy?' is what started it) I said they'd had long happy lives and done all they wanted to do and were dead now.

Our oven blew up and he got a bit freaked out that we're getting rid of it and getting a new one. I think I may have said it had died and he said it was our friend which made cakes and we had to play it music to make it feel better (nearly set me off crying, that did - well, that and the price of replacing the bloody thing) - so we had a talk about metal recycling. He got very upset when I tried to explain that ovens weren't alive/didn't have feelings so we left that and have gone for the whole re-incarnation thing there.

CP Sorry about sickness, hope you are on the mend.

Mous Sad that you are Sad about the diagnosis. It's a worry but as Scones said - the number of languages is most likely the reason.

Re milk, DS might have 2 cups in a day but equally might have none at all - totally random what time of day as well. His juice intake was creeping up so we have a new rule that he only gets one small glass of juice with lunch and one with dinner (like teeny tiny duralex thimble wineglass) and all other drinks are either water or milk so he's probably having more milk than he used to. He loves cheese - and gets quite a bit of dairy fat that way.

I measured his height the other day and make him 91-92cm (ish).

He starts preschool on Mon - 3 settling in sessions then from next week 12.15 til 3pm on Mon, Weds and Fri.

DH left for Croatia today, for a music festival for work in Pula. Back Mon. Things with us seem a lot better. Thanks for all your support here and on fb. Much appreciated xxx

StoneBaby · 05/09/2012 21:05

Grin at the LO (or not so little) wanting to stay at nursery/school. DS runs to me every day but more a possession duty as his 'girlfriend' always wants to give me a hug!!

It appears that this time around tttc, my cycle is getting longer - I reach 40 days this time and suffered awful pre-period pains. I dodn't get that first time around... Hmm

Bearcrumble · 05/09/2012 21:06

Left out the word 'poo' in my message to scones. I wish we could edit our posts on here.

Bearcrumble · 05/09/2012 21:08

SB do you know at what point in the 40 day cycle you ovulated?

StoneBaby · 05/09/2012 21:09

Xposted bc but glad things are better Smile

StoneBaby · 05/09/2012 21:11

Xposted again. No I'm not entirely sure I'll normally ovulate 15-14 days before (when my cycle eas 35 days pre DS) but I may use ovulation sticks to help

StoneBaby · 05/09/2012 21:12

Sorry it should read was 35...

Bearcrumble · 05/09/2012 21:20

That's a good long luteal phase then, sometimes ovulation is delayed by stress or illness but the luteal phase is normally the same length so you're still fine for conceiving on that basis. Good luck, hope it doesn't take you too long. x

stoofadoof · 05/09/2012 21:23

oh SR :(

poor CP hope you're all feeling a bit better!

just a quicky to update - can't remember what had happened last time i posted? DD got all clear on Monday so was able to go back to YR 1 today - v happy little girl, and lovely school/staff who all looked after her and even made her a 'cosy corner' so she could have a quiet sit when she got tired in the afternoon :)

DS has more blood tests in the morning - really hoping his red blood count is back up a little, or at least plateaued - if not, we're in blood transfusion territory - really hoping to avoid that? he's had a little colour in his cheeks for a few hours today (he's been almost translucent for a couple of weeks now) and he's also eaten fairly steadily :) fingers crossed his bloods are better tomorrow!

do you know what, it really does feel a bit like coming home being back here - I'm sorry i've missed out on the last 18+ months? promise i'll be back properly once we're out the other side of the ecoli hell!

ClimbingPenguin · 05/09/2012 21:25

bear I hope DH is just as good when he gets back

We've briefly covered dead=not working/broke when coming across dead animals or bugs that DD has squashed but haven't gone into too much detail. Mostly because I haven't felt a need and she's not picked up to ask questions about it.

rainbowweaver · 06/09/2012 07:14

Thanks for all the milk info. DD has as much water or juice as she wants but she doesn't take very much of either so most liquid coming from milk intake so I guess we'll soldier on with the milk. These days she has a good breakfast and lunch and usually gives dinner a miss, or if she has not had a good lunch (like yesterday) then a large dinner so I guess it balances out.

Just realised I hadn't provided our updates. DD had her toe stung by a dead bee 3 weeks ago (bee on the floor and she stepped on it) while we were in London at my sis'. Luckily it was just as we were leaving to come back so we dropped by A&E, who said don't worry. A week later it swelled up and got quite infected just after we took her swimming (the first time in about 1.5 years), we found out it was because there was still a bit of the stinger left in her toe. Had to give her anti-bs which she absolutely hated, restraints etc needed. ( that was pretty stressful for us) Luckily now all better, I think I managed to take out the stinger in the end once the swelling went down a bit The doctors didn't want to as they said it should get absorbed in time....

She loves swimming! We should have done it sooner, there's even a warm pool nearby though we didn't know till 2 weeks ago. Issue now is she'll stay in the water for literally hours (3 hours that first time) and won't come out without a lot of persuasion/crying! :)

rainbowweaver · 06/09/2012 07:22

Nice to hear from you again bc good things improving

Glad you're back stoof (btw I was sunangel)

On dead, we simply told DD that the ants she crushed were dead, and she went "Ooo" knowledgeably.

rainbowweaver · 06/09/2012 07:27

cp water, peppermint tea with honey, green tea can't have too much of those, esp peppermint tea with honey for tummy upsets . Grin. Only personal experience mind, no medical background whatsoever.

rainbowweaver · 06/09/2012 07:29

Apparently around 8 years old is when they start worrying bout mortality.

rainbowweaver · 06/09/2012 20:35

Darn, I've killed the thread haven't I?

ClimbingPenguin · 06/09/2012 20:54

nah

InmaculadaConcepcion · 06/09/2012 21:02

Oh SR Sad I'm so sorry. So sorry.

Mous don't blame you for being worried about the speech. I'm sure it'll be fine.

stoof glad your DD is better, hope everything stabilises for your DS soon.

Bc good to hear things are better with your DH.

NK, CP I hope the health issues are now behind you and everyone's on the mend. Thanks for the advice re being a mum of 2! DD has been pretty good since DH started work - she's definitely better behaved when it's just me, I don't think I'm a sufficiently attentive audience for her displays of two-ishness..!

And I've been tapping her about the poo phobia and she's been much better about it - no more retention issues since the 5-day self-enforced constipation, thankfully.
DD's still pretty dubious about DS, but loves all the Big Sister presents she's been getting..!!

Scones like you, the difference with having a chilled second baby makes for a drastically altered experience second time round. Still don't think I'd contemplate a third, but I can understand a bit more why people have lots of children, DS makes it seem very easy..!

rainbow virtually no milk here, DD has even stopped having it on cereal. But she's another that eats a lot of cheese/fromage frais/yoghurt.

SB arf at the "zizi" conversations!! I'm anticipating a certain amount of comedy concerning boys' bits when DS is older...

Right, I'm off to bed - DS wakes every two hours for a feed/nappy change. I'm definitely getting a sight more sleep than I did with DD, but it's still not enough.....zzz...

DS sounds adorable IC

I managed to eat three small meals today so almost there although still feel a bit weak come the evenings which is a bit odd. Thank goodness for nursery days Grin We managed to do the splash park, the play park and fed the ducks this morning, was lovely but was nice to hand them over. I've been sleeping 10-8 the past few nights as well excusing the two hour feeds. DH has been kipping with DS and bringing him through for feeds and keeping him settled the rest, although sounds like yesterday he only slept for an hour and then he patted him to get him through the two hour mark. Part of my brain says to feel bad but I don't, I need to sleep.

NK2b1f2 · 08/09/2012 17:03

I learned a few things about dd2 this past week... 1. She can eat with knife and fork, correctly. Found that out at lunchtime when dh accidentally put dd1's cutlery down for dd2. She picked it up and got on with it! I haven't taught her and usually just give her a fork and spoon, so she must have observed us.

  1. She can hold on for 6 hours before leaking... Collected her from nursery one afternoon and she'd wet herself just before I arrived. Changed her there but she did another small wee in the car. At home I asked her to use the potty and she did an incredible waterfall impression and FILLED the potty! Turns out she doesn't like the nursery loos and tried to hold all day... I'm a bit Hmm that staff didn't notice she hadn't been!
