This time last year, we were all enormous, waiting for them to arrive - now they're almost 1

Hullo all from sunny Wales ... yup, not a typo ... we have had fantastic weather. Dp has been coming here with me for a decade and he can't belive his eyes! Having said that - the clouds did descend today, but we've had 4 consecutive days of blue skies, and we've been showing off the stunning scenery to our friends who were staying with us.

Took the girls swimming today which was great fun. Iris was petrified at first, then absolutely adored it - she kept giggling and splashing at the water and looked so cross when we took her out. She also has her first pair of shoes - ghastly pink sequinned monstrosities, as they were the only ones that fitted properly! We actually asked to see some from the boys range, but the shop lady looked aghast and said "You couldn't possibly put a girl in those" and she was so adamant, dp and I were feeble and agreed to the sequins!

She's not actually walking yet, but sometimes does 4-5 steps independently. I'm longing for her to take off properly as she weighs a tonne and is doing my back in.

Anyway, what a splendid holiday. And so comfy and relaxed to be in my parents house, even without them here to wait on us.

Welcome georgiesmum - am still speechless at that sleep - Iris goes to bed at 7ish, and is regularly up at 5.30am, this morning it was 4.50am. After an hour of trying to persuade her back to sleep I finally resorted to feeding her to sleep again - all very well for her, but not a lot of snooze for me. Must be off to bed now!

Pidge · 06/04/2006 20:57

My pics on photoalbum are definitely candidates for most out of date ... will try to remember to update when we're home.

BonyM · 06/04/2006 21:39

Hi everyone - not managed to post for a while although have been reading everyone else's!

Grace has been under the weather for a couple of days - was spectacularly sick on Tuesday morning, three times all down me and her Sad and then slept most of the day, punctuated by approx. 15min. inconsolable crying bouts. Seejms back to her normal self again today so not sure what it was - tummy bug? Reaction to MMR? No idea, but was horrible while it lasted.

Welcome to Georgiesmum - the more the merrier on this thread!

Busy, and jambot, I am terribly lax about cleaning Grace's teeth - she only has 6 still and on a good day I clean them after breakfast, not so good day I give her the toothbrush to suck a bit and a bad day, forget altogether. Must get my act together!

She took a couple of steps unaided at the weekend and is standing unsupported for longer now. Think it will be a few weeks though before we get any "proper" walking.

Glad to hear that you are enjoying your break Pidge. We are off on hols on Saturday - going to Catalonia (about 1.5hrs south of Barcelona) for a week. Looking forward to it although when I checked the weather forecast yesterday there was a lot of rain predicted Sad. Hoping they've got it wrong!

Had some upsetting news today - Phoebe's school is scheduled for closure. Won't affect her as they are talking about 2009 when she will be starting high school, but it would mean that Grace would have to go elsewhere. It's such a lovely school and there's strong opposition to the plan so we are hoping. We have the support of the local MP and AM.

JoPG · 06/04/2006 21:53

Loads of news to catch up on today!

Clever old Harrison. i bet he looked really surprised that he had done it - and even more surprised when he fell on his bottom!

Potty training - no way! Am back on reusable nappies now that brighter weather is here and I can hang them out on the line. Freya is in disposables at night though.

freya is now feeling much better after being poorly at the weekend and early part of this week. She has gone from eating and drinking nothing to screaming for food! I have not been able to shovel it in quick enough today! She was also really scavenging after Ethan's Kinder Egg that he got at a friend's house and had a complete paddy when I moved her away. She is definitely getting a very strong personality.

Went to a small farm today and made the most of the glorious weather. Ethan enjoyed feeding all the animals and looking at all the baby animals. Freya sat in her buggy and watched the world go by. It was nap time really and she completely refuses to sleep in her buggy, but a least she sat and chilled out for a bit in an otherwise hectic day.

P.S. - Have updated photo bucket.

Lauren definitely looks like she was enjoying her birthday cake!

Georgiesmum · 06/04/2006 21:56

I must confess I am number one teeth cleaner, we clean our teeth every morning and every night in the bath (thats georgie and me!)have sone since the first tooth

Im contimplating (sp) potty training aroung 16months when the weather is nicer so she can just wear knickers at home.

Its scary tho!

have started a photo albu, excuse me on the Georgie at 1 day one, had been in labour for 4 days so looking slighlty tired!!!

JoPG · 06/04/2006 22:02

Georgiesmum - What very blue eyes Georgie has. Very cute. Nice to see some photos.

busywizzy · 07/04/2006 08:31

Georgie is sooooo cute, she looks like a real little cheeky monkey Smile And Jo, Freya gets more and more like Ethan. Certainly looked like that cake was going down a treat Smile

Have a nice day all - sun is shining here so we're going to try and make the most of it as rain is forecast for the weekend.

OP posts:
Georgiesmum · 07/04/2006 09:26

Thankyou to you both, she is certainly a cheeky monkey!! Smile

Georgiesmum · 07/04/2006 09:34

Harrison, Freya and Lauren are all so lovely. So who has what baby?

Lauren is Jambots
Freya is JOpg
Harrison is Buzys
georgie is mine!

Please up date me!

jambot · 07/04/2006 14:53

Thanks for updating the photobucket, the 'good'mummies! :) As for the rest of you, well!!! Georgie looks too sweet. Thanks for putting her on. Has anyone noticed the names of some babies that are on the list are not familiar. Must be mums who were on right in the begining. Can't remember their names. Wonder what's become of them. 3mummy - wonder how she is?
Hey, we have our first steps. Rather tentative but lovely all the same.
I have four friends having babies this month. 3 of them are new mums. Have to try hard not to sound like a know it all around them. Hard to believe it was just over a year ago that I had never changed a nappy in my life. Now I feel I'm an old hand at all this mummy stuff!

busywizzy · 07/04/2006 18:55

Georgiesmum, the others (who are still around) are

Pidge - Iris
BonyM - Grace
Leo - Niklas
Cristina - Sylvia
Calebsmum - Caleb (surprise)
Popsycal - Harry
Misdee - Serena
Ukrainiunmum (just joined so no piccies yet) - Ksenia

Hope I haven't missed anyone

OP posts:
busywizzy · 07/04/2006 18:58

Well done Lauren on her first steps Smile

Harrison's standing was a one day only trick, hasn't done it since, although did seem to be thinking about it in the bath tonight but decided no, thank goodness.

'No' is still his only proper word and doesn't he just love saying it. Shouted it at the top of his voice all the way round Tesco's today - how embarrassing, got lots of 'can't you just guess what she says all day' sort of looks Blush

BonyM, hope Grace is better Smile

popsycalindisguise · 07/04/2006 19:45

Hi folks - trying to catch up and as usual no time for a big post but potty training - wow - very brave! I didn't do ds1 until this time last year!!! He will be 4 in august. It was a piece of cake - no accidents. Just put underpants on him and that was it. Definitely waiting until AT LEAST next summer with harry!!!

leogaela · 07/04/2006 20:11

Why is it the days I am at work and have time to post its really quiet here and the days I am off are really chatty????

Busy, have to laugh at Harrison in Tesco's shouting no!
Niklas still doesn't have any proper words. Lots of things are daddy and mama - if he wants something he points at it and says 'MaMa' - and he tries with banana. I am kind of expecting him to be a late started though due to the 2 languages.

Bonym - sorry that poor Grace (and poor you) has been so ill. Glad to hear she seems to be on the mend now!

Wow, most of the babies seem to be starting to take first steps or walking! I think it is so cute seeing little ones walk, wiggling big nappied bottoms on podgy legs! I love it :O!

I am proud to say that I am good at teeth cleaning :o! Every morning after breakfast (or before when he goes to nursery as he has his breakfas there), and every evening last thing. Sometimes he doesn't settle and has more milk after I've put him to bed, then I will clean his teeth a second time. Sometimes I insist on making sure I clean them first, then let him have the brush, if he is (or I am) too tired then he get to do it all by himself! Niklas has 9 teeth now and the 10th looks as if its is on its way.

jambot · 07/04/2006 21:55

Feeling very guilty about my poor teeth cleaning! Better pull up my socks or my daughter's teeth are going to fall out!
I did win the chest of drawers. Got confirmation today. Feel bad about selling it on, but I didn't actually enter the competition. Just happened to submit a review and automatically qualified. If I sell it what do you think I should ask? Worth 395. Do you think it's cheeky to sell them on the For Sale category on MN? If anyone of you wants it, make me an offer. Special price for March mums!

Cristina7 · 08/04/2006 12:32

Hi Georgiesmum - welcome here. I have tiny Sylvia (only 8.5 kg). She's v sweet.

We are busy with the school holidays here. Dominic is going to bed let so Sylvia is going to bed much later too. Sleep habits are the only thing i regret not doing "properly" with Dominic and i really want to tackle any problems soon this time round. Sylvia has even started waking up for a couple of hours in the middle of the night. Not good.

We are off swimming today. Yesterday we took a friend of Domi's and saw "Ice Age 2" and then Pizza Hut, then the library, then home for football and PlayStation.

Dominic wants to play a game on the computer so i must comply.

I hope all are well and enjoying the Spring.

Jambot - we need a big, big wardrobe to replace a tallboy and a chest of drawers. We are running out of space... BTW I'm taking Dom and Sylvia camping at the end of May. Do you think you could get the Ergo over by then? My email is cristina at cismigiu dot demon dot co dot uk. Thanks.

ukrainianmum · 08/04/2006 15:21

Good day to all mummies and babies!
Leo you asked me does it worth the early potty training? I can tell you this my best friend's dd is now 1 year and 8 m. For the last 2 months she's been sleeping even at night without nappy. Actually babies after being trained can hold all their wishes intill they can do it. Of course reasonable period of time.
Ok, I dont get.How you update the photobucket? And is this already the time for teeth cleaning? Ksenia has 5 whole teeth, 2 half and 1 just got out.these teeth are so slow.It takes about a month for a tooth to come out.

Ksenia is walking and walking. She is starting to chase the pigeons ind sparrows. And for the last couple of days she is a talker. She will tell you everyth5ng she knows. She nearly fell down the sofa. She told me, grandma and grandpa. When we stopped listening to her figli, lolo tata booom she told all of this to my cat. And all her story was supported with hands move and mimics.I hope she wiil start to talk soon.

JoPG · 08/04/2006 18:54

Cristina - here is that link again
\link{http://www.justgiving.com/JoanneGall\My Marathon Page}

Training is going well, we are now dropping down the mileage and only had to do 11 miles today! Just 5 miles next weekend, and then it's the big day the weekend after.
Getting very nervous now and am in a funny way kind of impatient for the Big Day to arrive.

busywizzy · 08/04/2006 21:07

Jo, I am absolutely filled with admiration for you and wish you all the very best Smile Have you always been a runner or did you take this up for a special reason?

Went to a 1st birthday party today with Harrison and Hannah. Harrison had a lovely time eating sandwiches, grapes, raisins and cake. My friend was there with her 13 month little boy and her two week old baby girl Shock She looks completely shattered.

Harrison is back on track sleeping wise thank goodness. Last three nights, he has been in bed between 6.30-6.45pm and has been waking up at 7.30am ish. Hooray - long may it continue Smile Still no sign of a tooth though but lots of horrible nappies and a runny nose of epic proportions, so I'm convinced one is on the way.

Hope everyone is having a nice weekend Smile

busywizzy · 08/04/2006 21:09

Alexandra, your story about Ksenia chatting to the cat really made me smile Smile

OP posts:
Cristina7 · 09/04/2006 08:17

Good luck, Jo. How young you look in that photo in the link! I really admire your determination to run the marathon.

leogaela · 09/04/2006 11:02

Wow, it would be great to have a baby out of nappies by 1yr6months, but I still have no idea how to start doing this. I also think it must depend on the child. As tempting as it sounds I don't think that Niklas would train early. I'm also not sure how the potty training will work with the nursery. I guess they also have to think he is ready and support the whole thing.

Alexandra - teeth should be cleaned as soon as they come through. Milk has a sugar in it that causes decay of the teeth.

Jo - I am also really impressed with oyu running a marathon, I did one a few years ago so know the time and commitment that goes into it. I would love ot have your commitment now but despite good intentions only manage to run once about once a week. Maybe in a few years....! I would also like to sponsor you, but the cost of sending the money from here would be stupid. I have a friend (also a runner), will see if he will sponsor you on my behalf.

busywizzy · 09/04/2006 14:28

Seems like Harrison is poorly again and I'm not sure it's teeth this time Sad

He had a very unsettled night then woke up for the day just after 6.30am. He seemed fine first thing and had his milk and lots of breakfast. But at about 8.30 he started getting really grumpy so I put him down for a sleep. He woke at 10 but was very clingy and just wanted to sit on my lap with his head on my shoulder. By 11.30, he'd gone back to sleep, slept another hour, had a small bit of lunch and now he's gone back to sleep again. Poor baby Sad

Hannah is round a friend's house, DH is asleep on the sofa so I'm off to catch up on the Sunday papers.

Hullooo all. Back from hols. And into total chaos. Painter was supposed to be doing Iris' room whilst we were away, but has barely started, so Iris is installed in guest room, with my parents due to arrive back from Japan in 4 days, so have to get her room done by then. Also living room downstairs is being painted so that is out of action. And tomorrow we get warderobes built in our bedroom, so that is now in chaos. We don't do things by halves here!

Nice to be home though.

Still no sign of real walking here, despite new shoes. (By the way, in my last message, I didn't mean to offend anyone who loves pink sequins, was just amused that me and dp who are definitely not the glittery types were somehow browbeaten into buying these extraordinary shoes!). Iris will stand quite well, but looks very sceptical, and giggles and when she tries to move a foot promptly falls over.

Cristina7 · 09/04/2006 20:00

Welcome back, Pidge. Don't worry about the sequins. Today it's the shop assistant browbeating you into buying them, before you know it it will be Iris. I can imagine the chaos of having work done in your house. Can't say I envy you.

Poor Harrison, poorly again.

Leo - you too did a marathon? What a sporty lot on here. Not referring to myself. I quite like swimming, I did a swimming fundraising many years ago. I like cycling too, but haven't done anything long-distance since DS was born. But nothing close to anything resembling a marathon. I have ideas of doing the London to Brighton bike run one year.
