Hello fellow April mums. Following on from our lovely ante-natal threads, here's the first of the post-natal ones. Join us as we work out how to handle nappies, feeding, colic, crying and all things newborn, or just to celebrate the joys of a new baby!

Ooh well done, LaTristesse! Just marking my place & awaiting an arrival! (due tomorrow...)

JambalayaCodfishPie · 07/04/2012 11:53

Marking my place, although DD is two weeks away! Grin

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 07/04/2012 11:57

Marking my place too

Bananna1 · 07/04/2012 12:02

Morning ladies - just signing in too - but like Jambalaya, still have two weeks until baby due [busmile]

Pitmountainpony · 07/04/2012 15:41

Thanks for starting the thread tris.
Already loving having two but bedtimes are our challenge at the moment....once my c section wound heals things will be easier.......
Went to a botanical gardens yesterday and sat under a blossom tree eating lemon drizzle cake and orangina whilst baby slept and dh played with son and son got up close with some peacocks......which he thought were dragons.
Felt so lucky to just be a mum with two beautiful children.......I am still on pain killers though so we shall see if the halcyon mist dissipates as the sleep deprivation takes its toll. But for now just in awe that my body can produce these perfect little beings who grow and develop. It is such a privilege to get to be a mother.

lizmarshmallow · 07/04/2012 19:19

Also marking my place!

Uglymush · 07/04/2012 19:23

Can someone please tell me where all the sleep went? My DS thinks that day time is sleep time and night time is play time. Starting to lose my mind :(

HollyPockett · 08/04/2012 08:11

Marking my place for when the Diva decides to arrive!

Nordicmom · 08/04/2012 22:43

Marking my place too. We've two weeks exactly to CS or maybe she'll come even earlier....

Pitmountainpony · 09/04/2012 17:33

Ugly mush......it is awful when you lose sleep.......can you just sleep when baby sleeps whenever it is ? Obvious I know but worth it to retain sanity...

Uglymush · 09/04/2012 17:48

Thanks Pitmountain. I did manage some sleep yesterday but sadly there always seems to be a job to do. I am trying hard though.

Jamina · 10/04/2012 05:43

Hi ladies can I join? Have birth to dd on good Friday so starting out on the rocky road of parenthood :-)
Will be great to chat to other mummies, come on little ones hurry up and arrive xxx

Uglymush · 10/04/2012 18:58

Welcome Jamina and congratulations. I'm guessing this is your first baby

Twittle · 10/04/2012 19:35

Booking my spot too, even though I haven't posted much on the antenatal threads I have been catching up with everyones news when I can, probably no hope of posting on here once I have a baby and a toddler but then again what else will I be doing whilst I'm up in the middle of the night with a newborn........!!! Congratulations to all of those who are already on this side, can't wait until I am, just under two weeks to go but really feel like it should be a lot sooner.... fingers crossed!!

digitalgirl · 10/04/2012 20:59

Bookmarking! Ds2 (first time I've typed that!) is a day old and a lazy feeder like his big brother but thankfully I have plenty of colostrum I'm expressing and syringing into his mouth to keep him going till milk comes in.

Can't believe I'm a mum of two boys! Hooray for hand-me-down's!

Anyone get through a VB without stitches? My fanjo still stings, just wondering if it will stop stinging sooner this time.

pitmountainpony sounds lovely - can't wait to go out with my two! Gotta get out of hospital and wait for the spd to heal first.

LaTristesse · 10/04/2012 21:20

I didn't need stitches this time Digi, and found my 'graze' healed within a few days. My SPD took longer - I had a trapped nerve in my back too and it's taken until now (3 weeks) for me to be able to bear weight on it and be anything like mobile - not ideal with 2 little ones!

Really glad to hear your news btw, I remember your early posts on the ante-natal thread and it gets me all emotional that we've made it through safely with our new little ones... (Hormones in overdrive; forgive the soppiness!)

digitalgirl · 11/04/2012 08:49

Good to hear graze healed quickly LaT - mine seems to sting more today. My fault for thinking I could do an undiluted wee (ie no cup of warm water poured over).

Walking much better today and foot/leg swelling improving. Glad your spd finally relented.

Ds cluster fed from about 2am till 7 - am pleased he's got the hang of feeding now. Just have to toughen up nipples so it doesn't bloody hurt so much and I can doze while he's feeding.

And yes - sooo pleased to have my baby after everything we've been through.

moojie · 11/04/2012 15:57

Just joining you ladies. I lurked a lot on the April antenatal thread so know a few of your stories. I gave birth to ds2 on Easter Sunday after a very quick delivery which was just perfect. He is doing well at home, feeding well etc. We have had a tough couple of nights of cluster feeding so not had much sleep but not cracked up yet..guess that's to come tomorrow!

I have a ds who is 2.9yrs and has taken to being a big brother very well. It's tiring sharing your time out but I'm sure we'll crack it soon.

tiredmummykey · 11/04/2012 18:21

Hello , can I join please? I had DD2 last Monday and she is just delicious. Born by elcs weighing 7lb12. Csection went well and was elective due to loooong traumatic first labour (ending in forceps/3rdegree tear etc). Big decision but seems to have been the right one for me - Recovering well so far.

DD1 will be 3 next month and is taking her new big sister role in her stride.

This DD seems very mellow so far - sleeps all day then parties all night though (hoping she doesn't follow her big sisters footsteps who didn't sleep until she was 2! )

Anyway just wanted to introduce myself and say hello

UniPsychle · 11/04/2012 19:37

Announcing the arrival of Baby Frankie 8lb 7oz last Tuesday by elcs. He's truly yummy and I'm enjoying snuggling up to him and taking it easy. Sorry not to have posted before. C section late in the day followed by an infection, inability to wee and baby with tongue tie who was not gaining as the nhs wished him to meant that i didn't get out till saturday night and I've been a bit wiped out since. I practically had to discharge myself as they wanted me in till he was gaining. But another night on the postnatal ward really would've driven me over the edge. And indeed a large glass of fizz and my own bed and he gained 40g overnight.

Only skimmed the thread, can't believe how much has happened in a week. Huge congratulations to aprilfoolsbaby, newmummyvicky, buns, el32, bearcrumble, dreamc1, digitalgirl (what a big boy, and love the nameWink), buns and mummylivmade. Welcome to those newly joined.

Good luck to all who are waiting, may your labours/c-sections be short and uncomplicated. I'm off to bathe in lansinoh. See you on the postnatal thread.

UniPsychle · 11/04/2012 20:46

Oops, wrong thread. Will repost in antenatal. Baby brain already in evidence....

Pitmountainpony · 11/04/2012 21:32

Uni psyche big congrats on your lovely son. See you on the other thread (:) )

Bunsouttheoven · 12/04/2012 00:00

pit I hoping that I'll be able to go home tomorrow. So miss being with my other dcs & DP & not really sure I'm getting anymore help/attention in hospital than I would at home.

What drugs did they send you home with? I have only had paracetamol & ibuprofen & 1 lot of oramorph. After pains are an absolute killer this time, especially when feeding.

Pitmountainpony · 12/04/2012 00:42

Oh yeah the womb contractions are a killer......okay so they gave me two diff ones......norco which is the narcotic they kept sayingvtry to take as few as poss as it is addictive so i guess opiate.......and Motrin. Last time I had Vicodin which was marvelous........totally obliterated all pain. Day 10 here and I can pretty much manage without either..... Just take the odd one for womb contractions since I may as well use them up. But the narcotics do rather block you up.
Having never been a rec drug user I am amazed by how brilliant drugs are when you need them......they really can be magic bullets.
Yes I missed my ds but they let me go two nights after c sec and stitches were out 5 days after surgery......scar is amazingly lowvprofile and healed totally in 10 days.....in awe of what these surgeons can do.
Anyway you will be home soon and just get dh to look after you. My dh has been great aside from a few very arrsey outbursts on his part at my ongoing requests and directions on how to do stuff he never has to do. Hope you sleep okay.....I do think the meds they give you interfere with the sleep cycle. But every day the pain is lesser and we are planning on going to disneyword next week....as I feel almost back to normal....I will clearly stay off mst of the rides I imagine......

Hoping you are home soon....I am meant to be resting....keep mumsnet ting as the baby feeds. The luxury of not having to handle my 2 year old....paternity leave is quite wonderful.

digitalgirl · 12/04/2012 10:16

I didn't get any painkillers. Maybe because I didn't need any stitches. I do have 2 months of iron supplements to take though.

Am having the odd paracetemol for the after pains - have only had two really bad episodes. Lochia seems to be easing to just moderate flow now and stinging on weeing has gone down - bits still feel v sensitive on wiping though. But each day there is a little improvement. Smile

What's killing me at the moment is my nipples. Have Lansinoh but latching on is so painful and ds2 wants to feed almost hourly. Last night was exhausting - but I'm hoping that once supply is up that it'll get easier. I have a hungry boy!
