Hello fellow April mums. Following on from our lovely ante-natal threads, here's the first of the post-natal ones. Join us as we work out how to handle nappies, feeding, colic, crying and all things newborn, or just to celebrate the joys of a new baby!

Emily's cord came off at some point in the night.
And OMG decided to leave her nappy off for a bit whilst cuddling - guess what just happened?!

LaTristesse · 20/04/2012 19:22

Hehe Vintage, I was astounded that my petite ladylike daughter managed to shoot crap 4ft up the wall onto the curtain rail!

Vintage, our little Emily's cord clamp came off last night. Am so glad cos it was getting in the way of her nappy & so sure it was hurting her. Nice & dry now. Digi: things improving with latch today & actually spent the morning at MIL & FIL & expected the opposite as I didn't have all my 'props' with me. I refused a coffee out yesterday (wonders will never cease!!) as I baulked at the thought of trying to arrange myself & Emily comfortably in public. We'll get there though!

digitalgirl · 21/04/2012 09:03

Mastitis. Ouch. That is all.

VintageNancy · 21/04/2012 16:49

digi bugger. Are you on antibiotics?

We're currently wrestling with keeping a newborn cool in 30C temps. Cool cloths and just hanging out in a nappy seems to be the answer. Luckily nighttime temps are more like 14C. Wasn't expecting it to be so hot here already though supposed to cool down on Monday.

Pitmountainpony · 21/04/2012 17:47

Digital......horrid for you but lots of hot showers should help and drugs.

On the heat........Yes...same where we are vintage. I did not dare put dd in her swaddle last night so just put her to sleep in her nappy so she did not get hot.she did not sleep so well.
My mum arrives this weekend....nearly two years since she has seen us...last trip home..ds was 7 months.....now he is huge. Need to do a big clean up and get her room ready and cook some good food. So looking forward to sharing dd and ds with her......the only real cost of living overseas in my mind, is not sharing this precious time with family.

Pitmountainpony · 21/04/2012 17:49

Digital.....rest up if that is even possible. It is so awful having mastitis....get well. Soon.

VintageNancy · 21/04/2012 18:13

Where do you live pitmountain?
That's the hardest thing for me too - my mum goes home today. My dad and brother won't see her until September when we go home for hols. First baby on our side and I had a few tears about us depriving everyone of her by moving so far away.

Pitmountainpony · 21/04/2012 22:08

We are southern California Vintage.
Flights have gone up so much in the last three years...now we have three to buy....trips home will be elusive. But have my mum here for a while and will make the most of her for the time she is here.

They will make such a fuss of Emily in September when you go back....it is the only downside of life overseas in my mind....but there is always Skype.

Pitmountainpony · 21/04/2012 22:11

Nice to have had your mum these early days but is sad she is going back......prepare to feel a little downbeat the first few days she is gone, but you get used to it. We are lucky to still have our mums around I am sure.

VintageNancy · 21/04/2012 23:12

I'm guessing South Cali is even hotter than us here in San Jose. DH just came back from Costco with a fan as we don't have AC.

Skype is amazing, it's made it all a lot easier.

Boomerwang · 22/04/2012 21:50

Well it has taken me two days to catch up on all the posts on this thread and the last one. I don't get much time to MN now, there's always something that needs doing and the baby doesn't sleep enough.

Anya is now one month old. Her jaundice disappeared a couple of weeks ago, she's put on plenty of weight and is filling out nicely.

Lately she is constipated. After a chat with the doc she's suggested 5ml of lactulose every morning. This works, although it's not without stomach pain. She poops only once a day, but does a hell of a lot because of the lactulose. She's feeding more often than usual, I assume this is because she is becoming dehydrated after the lactulose has worked.

She used to sleep for 3-4 hours at a time. Now it's around 1.5-2 hours. The first couple of weeks were hard as we adjusted to a baby waking us up in the night and we did have a few mean words with each other (dp and me, not the baby!) but now we've got it more or less sorted where I deal with her most of the time but when I'm exhausted I can ask dp to take over after about 10am. He has to work (only took 4 days paternity so far) so can't be up in the night so much.

There's a new picture of her on my profile taking a short nap in the sun with some baby oil on to help remove the last of her jaundice a couple of weeks ago.

Congratulations to the people I missed who have had their babies. Good luck to those who have yet to start labour and please provide us with pictures when it's all done :)

newmummyvicky · 23/04/2012 11:39

I'm having problems with my left boob with latching on she doesn't seem to happy and keeps coming off. Nipples still a little cracked but not as painfull. I'm seeing a breast feeding lady again Thursday. She was quite helpfull last time. Still taking painkillers. I managed to feed round my parents in law for the first time.

We've given the little one a dummy, after feeds it seems to get her to sleep and calm her down. Hubby has been doing one feed too, I've been expressing. I try to get him to do a late night one! But he was sick last night, so keeping him away from me and Lyra. Hope he gets well soon and we don't pick it up.

Seen health visitor last week and she said about seeing a specialist about little one tongue tie. So they will give us a call sometime soon. Might get her weighed Wednesday at our centre! Last time she was 7.1lb gone up from 6.5lb.

HelenMumsnet · 23/04/2012 14:17

BeyondTheLimitsOfAcceptability · 23/04/2012 17:24

Helloo

So here's my first proper post on here, I haven't read back through and caught up yet though. Me and Noah were finally discharged yesterday lunchtime after the paediatrician didn't have time to see us on Saturday... Hmm
Had an okay night last night, DS woke up at 4 and wanted to cuddle him so had to take him back to his own bed Grin He is completely smitten with him, wants to cuddle him alllll the time and keeps giving him kisses :)
Nipples are cracked because DS2 feeds like a beast! He is well attached, but he hardly stops! Had to give in and give him a dummy last night. We did with DS when he was tiny too, so am not too worried about nipple confusion...
Stitches are sore and a little swollen, but honestly surprised at how human I feel compared to when I had DS!! I even swept the kitchen earlier!! Only other complaint is the afterpains, gosh they smart!

spannermary · 23/04/2012 22:52

Ah, yes - my hospital discharge took place hours later than necessary because doc was busy. Same day, though!

Bill is a week old tomorrow: this time last week I had my first contractions! It seems like forever ago; and yet I can't believe he's a week old already!

Bf going pretty well and little one only lost a couple of pounds at first weigh in so pretty pleased. Think I may be getting an infection in left breast though as ducts are red and it is sore inside after feeding. Right side is fine. I'm applying copious amounts of lansinoh and hoping for the best!

Sleep now. So so tired. Zzzzzz......

JambalayaCodfishPie · 24/04/2012 08:37

Hello Post-natal!

We came home last night, less than 24 hours after setting off. Nancy needed temperature obs, as labour was far to quick for me to have our GBS antibiotics, but is all fine. Phew.

We are a very proud Mummy, Daddy and Big Sister. Grin

Will come back later and read up, fill you in.

Should really sleep at some point I think......

KatAndKit · 24/04/2012 09:28

Hello everyone, come to join you on here. Was on the ante-natal thread earlier on but ended up on too many different threads so didn't post much later on.

Baby Max was born on Friday 13th April after a long induction. But he arrived very much safe and sound and weighing a healthy 8lb. He's been feeding like a trooper since he got home and is now up to 8lb3oz.

Things are going ok here at home. He had to have his tongue tie snipped yesterday but that only took seconds and he slept right through it. We are getting some sleep but he still isn't going 3 hours between his feeds. Experimenting with different ways of doing things, but hopefully he will sleep a bit longer soon!

digitalgirl · 24/04/2012 11:15

spanner if you get a temperature then make sure you get some antibiotics. No point letting it get any worse or bf will really hurt.

My mastitis is clearing up now, the redness is fading and latching doesn't hurt so much anymore. So pleased to finally be able to breastfeed without wincing.

F is going 2-4 hours between feeds at night (feeling lucky so far, but we all know that could change). But getting an early night makes a world of difference. I'm counting my total sleep and averaging about 6-7 hours at night and trying to get a further hour during the day. Making it more of a mission to rest this time round as I don't want to get any more infections. Besides, it's been raining so much that going for a walk doesn't look that appealing.

He's just so scrumptious I feel totally blessed. As long as he's fed, comfortable and has a bit of attention when he's awake he is a very contented little baby. Am enjoying getting to know his little routines.

Hope everyone else is enjoying their babymoon!

digitalgirl · 24/04/2012 11:17

Many congrats on the safe arrival of baby Nancy jambalaya!

Bearcrumble · 24/04/2012 18:14

Nancy was on my shortlist. Lovely name.

Bunsouttheoven · 24/04/2012 20:37

Oh buggar I think I have thrush. Sad

LaTristesse · 24/04/2012 21:20

That sucks Buns, I had it 3 times with DS and it's agony so you have my utmost sympathy. My GP was crap so it didn't shift as quickly as it should. Just make sure you both get treated. Good luck...

Hi all,

Been ages since I posted on ante natal thread but just found this new post natal one lovely to hear off all these lovely babies :) Joshua was born cs on 4th April 7 pounds 8. He's much adored by big (21 months) sister who loves cuddles and kisses with him and has kindly passed on a cold to all of us - poor josh is coping well tho. Finally gave up on breast feeding as we never managed to establish a latch despite trying bf clinics /specialists etc. and josh was dropping far too much weight. Things on the up now as he is just back to birtj weight. am still trying to express when I can but with a toddler around as well it gets v hard to find the time. Hope u all getting some sleep :) forgot how tough these first weeks can be. Dh is back at work now tho I must admit was a massive help when he was off - my only complaint is his inability to be of any help at night (once he is asleep that's it)..
