Yep we have some pretty shocking bodgits here too Kitty! to a certain extent you expect it in a house built in the 1860s but some of the obviously more recent jobs are terrible! All the wiring in every room is in hideous trimming so we're having to chase it in as we go, the only light in the bathroom was an outdoor bulkhead light and everything attached to the wall in all the rooms is falling out due to blown plaster!

NorthernChinchilla · 05/04/2012 16:29

I think they're allowed pillows, etc, from 1 year upwards. The weird and wonderful sleeping habits of children- and I bet if you get him one Gee you'll go in to find it on the floor and his head wedged where it always is Smile!

If your LO is happy then you've not failed him Kitty, not at all. If the GP is happy, then it just sounds like one of those things they need to keep an eye on.

And hope he'll now be on the mend BJR- at least you've got something you can give him now.

May I just say- cake batter. NYOM Grin

NorthernChinchilla · 05/04/2012 16:33

Just seen your post MissRee, what a discovery!!

Our best was having to pull down the fake exposed Elizabethan style beams in the living room, to find fake-brick wallpaper...over the brick chimney Grin!

Afternoon all - miserable day here, really cold and windy. We have made easter cards and chocolate nests and played lots of cars and lego. rather tired today as a uni friend came to visit yesterday and had a few glasses of wine and a bit of a late night. nice to see her though. Managed a nice pub lunch with ds and freya and a walk (where unfortunately we got caught in hail!)

I am lucky with Freya's sleep. She is a bit of a textbook baby. up at 7.30 am ish. short sleep in cot if home or car seat if its a preschool day about 9am, longer sleep at lunch time (2 hours today) and then another short sleep 4/5 ish and then to bed at 730pm. I think it is a lot to do with babies temperment but I think I learnt from ds that I need to let freya learn to self settle. With ds I used to spend hours walking him in the pram or even driving him to get him to nap in the day, with freya I just put her down when I see the sleep signs and she settles herself, or has a short period of using her dummy and then sleeps.

Dh is currently packing the car and trailer tent for an easter camping trip. We are mad I think with the current weather but DS is realy looking forward to it and freya and I are coming home at night as it is quite near by!

Sympathies to those in diy mode - I have had the last year of it so know what it is like. We have one room to go!

AWomanCalledHorse · 05/04/2012 16:52

The laminate in our hallway has non-traditional underlay...magazines. The previous owners did it! We can't decide on what to replace it with atm (tiles, wood, carpet?)...it's the last room left to get new flooring.
But they also nailed a spice rack to the wall & had every room painted in a shade called blinding acid drop yellow so they're idiots.

MissRee, blown plaster sounds expensive/messy!! Hope it gets sorted soon.

Have fun on your camping trip Jiggle! It looks like it's going to be an 'orrible weekend weather wise.

MissRee · 05/04/2012 16:53

Aaaaaaand the ceiling just fell down...

NorthernChinchilla · 05/04/2012 17:00

Ah yes, the colour choices of previous tenants, who can only have been on some seriously powerful drugs- purple glitter in the stairs and landing people? Dark and light blue glitter swirls in the upstairs loo?
You must have had a permanent headache AWCH!

Are you OK MissRee?! Which ceiling, all of it?

With you on the self-settling jiggle; we had to put up with DS being awake all day on various occasions, but he finally seemed to get the idea that sleeping in the day was indeed a good thing.

MissRee · 05/04/2012 17:07

Yep I was standing in the doorway Grin DP took the brunt of it! Just the bathroom ceiling but it's made one he'll of a dusty mess Sad

hawthers · 05/04/2012 17:26

Very brave people doing DIY.

Am pissed off with DH. Trying to pack for a weekend at my m and d's whilst looking after two ds'. Just spoken to him and he is heading off for a drink after work and won't be back until 7. Was really hoping he'd be back early enough so I can pack myself without the distractions of children. No doubt he'll return later making a flap about his packing so bob only knows when I can do mine. Plus he wants to leave by 9 tom am Hmm

hawthers · 05/04/2012 17:34

And now I've just had a msg to say he is on his way home as he felt guilty after talking to me so now I feel like a bitch!

MissRee · 05/04/2012 18:11

Don't feel bad hawthers, we all have our moments. At least he realised and came home on time Smile

So the kids have been packed off to the GPs for the night tonight and will be at the other GPs tomorrow night as the dust is now unbearable and DSS's asthma has become a concern because of it. Should I be feeling more worried than looking forward to a kiddie free night though?? Grin

YBR · 05/04/2012 18:13

Dummys and SIDS: I was so astonished when the HV recommended Dummys on this basis that I looked up the research. There is a statistical correlation but it's only significant when other factors are not in your favour i.e. you don't put baby to sleep on his/her back, you don't put baby at the foot of their cot/basket, co-sleeping, smoking, etc. If you get all these "right" (and they're all much more significant) it probably makes no difference. So for those who don't like the idea of a dummy, don't feel guilty on the SIDS front.

Settling babyYBR: I'm sure we're really bad parents - we just put her down and let her cry at bed time (she'll sleep in under 5 mins that way, it always seemed to take longer if we tried to cuddle her to sleep). I'm only just beginning to recognize a day-time nap pattern but I have been known to do the same for a daytime nap. It works. Blush

BabyYBR is somewhat upset Sad today, that'll be down to 3 jabs followed by a weigh-in just when she was beginning to sleep, and teething on top. This too will pass.

BeeMyBaby · 05/04/2012 18:33

YBR DD2 had her third set of injections yesterday too, somehow that extra third injection just pushed her over the edge and she went nuts. They can stand being stabbed twice but a third time? - now your taking the michael.

Also, a bit random but air did you have a shout out after peppa pig on milkshake this morning? I got very excited...

NorthernChinchilla · 05/04/2012 18:48

Glad you're in one piece MissRee, although I have to say that's some lengths you're going to for a child-free night Wink!

DS getting ready for bed; getting up an hour later than normal throws the day out, and so he's really ready for it!

MissRee · 05/04/2012 19:24

The tidy up operation is going to be hellish as the bathroom is off Jack's bedroom. All his toys need to be cleaned, bedding stripped, walls and furniture wiped down, curtains and nets washed...

GeeandTee · 05/04/2012 19:29

DD simply won't self-settle. I wouldn't deliberately let her cry anyway but there are lots of occasions where I've had to let her cry while doing something with DS, or in the pram etc and she just won't go to sleep if she's upset. She's spent an hour crying in the car without going to sleep too (when we were stuck on motorway) and as soon as we could stop I picked her up and she went to sleep immediately. If it was just 5 mins crying then falling asleep I would do it but it just doesn't work for her. I think whether your baby sleeps well or not is mainly luck!

AnAirOfHope · 05/04/2012 21:01

Milkshake lol no not me but my name is common in Wales and surname. The name Aeron is pn same as Aaron but the spelling and meaning is different. Hope mountian is a park in north wales as well.

AnAirOfHope · 05/04/2012 21:06

Also i waited an hoir for other people at meeting and no one turned up. I didnt get time or date as the room was booked and nursary was there but the had no issues to raise.

Really what is the piont! If i could get hold of social worker i would ask her to close case!

NorthernChinchilla · 05/04/2012 21:21

That does sound a big pile of pointlessness air, blimey.

Hey MsB- re. your chicken with the prolapse, I raise you- chinchilla with a penile hair ring. Maybe not as dramatic as MissRee's ceiling collapse, but sorting that out was just as much fun....
Bloody irresponsible pet owners, it really gets my goat. Especially with things like chins and dogs and cats that are around for 10-20 years.

Oh, and DP's friend that was meant to be arriving at 5 was in fact visiting a friend on the way to ours, so is just landing at the railway station. Which means we haven't eaten yet. Which means I am ravenous. And also that DS will probably wake as soon as we've finished eating, which is my evening buggered.

Grump.

MissRee · 05/04/2012 21:22

Do HVs do a home visit at around the 3 month mark? I ask because I had a voicemail from the HV today but by the time I'd picked it up, there was no answer when I called back.

OiMissus · 05/04/2012 21:40

BOi went down quite easily this evening. Can't quite believe it. He woke after an hour, so DH tried feeding the formula (aptimil from powder) he wouldn't take it. So I gave the boob. He ate. When he broke off, I snook in the bottle. He had a bit but really wasn't impressed. So he went back to the boob. I'll try a carton instead tomorrow, or a different bottle/teat. Got to find a suitable back up for when I go back to work and if there's not enough expressed milk.
Booked him in at the nursery today. (£100 admin fee, cheeky bastards). He'll go to SIL's on Monday, nursery Tuesday, mum's weds and thurs, and nursery on Friday morning. The woman said he'll settle better if the nursery days are broken up - we'll see.
Normally, on Good Friday, the whole town climbs up the hill. (obviously started as homage to Jeebers who carried a cross up there). And then we'd (my friends and I, not the whole town) freshen up and go on a big pub crawl. ...I borrowed a Baby Bjorn off benny, so we may carry out the first part of the tradition. No other plans for the weekend yet. Want to go to my place of worship (the Trafford Centre) and shop for outfits for a wedding next weekend. :)

aethelfleda · 05/04/2012 21:47

misree, I don't think so, but if I recall correctly they do do a postnatal-depression screen at some point; some HVs just ask "how's it going" at the weigh ins and if you seem OK they don't bother, others go through the whole of the Edinburgh depression screening questionnaire (do you feel so low that you've thought about harming yourself... most days/some days/rarely/never and about 12 similar things)

DS is in 3-6 month clothes: it's going so fast! I will get him weighed next week after jabs but he's 14lb according to our bathroom scales.

Survived the estate agent appraisal: pleasantly surprised
That he estimated the house at over 30k more than I thought he would. Apparently the look of a "family home " is approved of.
He didn't even tell me to paint more stuff magnolia!!
If the valuation is accurate then that bodes well for us being able to afford a fourth bedroom when we move. Now it's sums time and some gentle house prep over the next few months.

Ooh, and four weeks to goo for DS! i'm not a super early weaner fan but I know how fun it is giving them tastes of mush and I really enjoy weaning.

MissRee · 05/04/2012 21:52

Ah that could be it then Aethel. I've been going to a different clinic to get F weighed as it's more convenient and in a nicer area. They did the whole Edinburgh test thingy with me when I had my first (and last) home visit.

Wow your DS is gaining well too! He was a diddy wee cutie when we met at Bluewater but it seems he's overtaken Freya - she was 11lb1oz at weigh in 2 weeks ago! You really must be serving gold top! Grin

aethelfleda · 05/04/2012 22:00

Either that or I just have ropy scales! He's happy enough which is the important thing.

Right, off to sterilise the pump and do a couple of emails then it's bedtime for me in preparation for the inevitable night feed.... See you later girls!

GeeandTee · 06/04/2012 03:43

Hmmm, we seem to be returning to feeding every 3 hrs throughout the night. Not happy :(
