Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
bob2110 · 28/02/2006 12:21

Hello,

I feel a bit like a gatecrasher but having snooped for a while it looks like you all have babies about the same age as mine (Georgina, 21st October 05) and was hoping it would be ok to join in? Like most things I start these days, I will have to stop this thread now as I have just noticed my lovely girl has smeared snot, sick & dribble all over herself, her playmat & the carpet. She, of course, thinks this is very funny...

Rodeo · 28/02/2006 13:17

Just a quickie before Toddlers......

Tex :( Had no idea things were that bad with Rosie, hugs to you, her and your lovely family.

You are very welcome bob2 :) Officially me, you, Nova, Beks and Londoner should be in the Oct thread but it's nicer here!!! My daughter Jess was born on 10th Oct :) And also covered in slobber and milky sick!! Better get her cleaned up....

Diege LOL Grin - Do you think I'm a telly addict or something?! I actually watched the film Sideways last night. I am a bit gutted actually because I'm at work tonight and I'll miss the Celeb Fat Club weigh in. How sad!

Bye x x x

OP posts:
Diege · 28/02/2006 13:54

Hmmm, Rodeo, there's no shame in admitting it you know WinkGrin. I luurrve the box, and will happily admit to looking forward to sitting down at the end of a busy day with Heat magazine, a pepsi max, and a good night's viewing ahead! Grin Nothing much on tonight for us...
So glad they have ruled out the nasties Tex Smile; still, infuriating waiting to see best course of action etc.... Welcome BOB2, love the name Georgina BTW!
BEX, hmm tough one with the lip balm. We prefix everything with the word 'princess' (princess spray for detangling hair conditioner), or 'magic' (echema (sp!!) cream); sure you've gone through all of this though! One tactic I use with dd2 is to smother my own lips in the stuff, and then give her a special mummy kiss (she hates it of course, but it does the trick Grin! Make sure they can't rub it off though!
A skin question if anyone can help? Libby's skin under her (several) chins is very red, sore and rashy looking. Have been keeping it clean and dry, and using vaseline/zinc and caster/baby oil (bad idea, she had an allergic reaction to Avent baby oil - should have guessed as I'm allergic too).Any suggestions?
Diege Smile.

bob2110 · 28/02/2006 14:41

Thank you for your welcomes. Am feeling a bit dreary today - (where has the adrenalin of the first few weeks gone??) so it was lovely. Diege, I use an ointment on Georgina called Kamillosan. Its Chamomile ointment & clear so won't stain clothes and smells lovely. It comes in a tube and I got it from Boots. I've used it for all sorts of things, cradlecap, sore bottom & dry skin and no adverse reactions. Maybe it might help soothe.

goldenoldie · 28/02/2006 15:04

Tex - so glad rosie is OK.

Candi - the 277 bus from Canary Wharf will get you to the bottom of my road! I'm in N1. Do you fancy joining JenJam and I for baby bounce on Thursday?

Took the DTs to mother and baby group today. They managed to scream the place down during song time, but, hey, I enjoyed myself!

Rodeo - love the celeb fat club too.

Diege - I use tee tree cream on Ezra's red, angry skin - seems to work.

Busyalexsmummy · 28/02/2006 15:10

hi all, having one of those weeks, alfie and myself have a stinking cold and he is taking badly again, his breathing is quite bad and hes very bunged up. he also seems to be very unsettled at the breast which im presuming is becuase he cant suck+breath at the same time cos of his nose being blocked? gotta go

babyonboard · 28/02/2006 15:21

hi all..how exciting , we got a 10 minute flutrry of snow this morning! got a picture of O by the window which can go in his baby book..lol

candimom - the greenwich picturehouse cinema has mum and baby screenings on friday morning..londoner has been and says it's fab.
only a few stops on the dlr from canary wharf too!
lol at picking out 'good' books for the cot..

the baby food book I mentioned doesn't give advice on methods of weaning etc, just has some lovely recipes and suggestions for getting the tots to eat and appreciate a wide range of foods.

interesting that it could be intolernce tex! you have seem to have lots of similr problems with rosie..perhps the reflux is caused by this too? good luck with it all..hope your household is getting stadily healthy agin!

beks, could you share some info on naming ceremonies? me and dp have been discussing it and we think we will go ahead..mainly an excuse for a party, but will be nice to 'formlly' recognise o's godparents...hehhe

just wondering if it's mean to take out the batteries on o's current favourite toy? it's a v tech radio that makes noises when you spin the buttons..he's been playing with it almost all day and i've found myself singing along..starting to get annoying now though..lol...

babyonboard · 28/02/2006 15:23

www.babysfirstdiary.com/

my friend sent me this link..looks pretty interesting, you fill out a weekly baby diary and at the end of the year thy print it into a hardbound baby diary for you.

novadandypowder · 28/02/2006 15:35

ahhhh - why does no-one live near me!!!!! I long for someone to join who lives around the corner, getting across to north or south east is such a poo Sad.

Diege - I may be making this up, but I think babies can get some kind of fungal infection under their chins?? I swear by the baby balm that Neals Yard do, have to keep putting it on Natalies face where it gets so wet.

A very successful yoga session today Grin

Re: naps - Nat needs more than 15 hours sleep a day, 12 hours at night and around 5-6 hours during the day. She's just like her mum and gets really grumpy if she's tired.

tessasmum · 28/02/2006 15:37

Welcome BoB2, seems we are all in the dribble/sick/snot zone at the moment Smile

BoB - battery toys are banned in our house because I'm a big, blue meany and prefer my sanity over my children's short-term enjoyment Shock

Something will always get you though, when Ash woke up to feed (again!) last night all DH could mutter was "I've got that bl**dy rabbit song going round in my head" (Ralph McTell - Alphabet Zoo if anyone's really interested!)

BEKsmum · 28/02/2006 15:38

Bob that sounds nice, will try and do that I think. If you're around next week I'll photo copy the naming ceremony stuff for you and we can meet up for coffee if you like. Thinking Tuesday or Thursday with Tex?

Busy seeing you on line, sorry to hear you & Alfie aren't feeling so good. Were your ears burning last night as I bought a baby magazine yesterday to see if you were in it - couldn't find you though as I'd brought Mother and Baby and have just had to go all the way back through the last thread to find out you are in Practical Parenting - I'm such a plank at times!!! [Grin] Will go out and buy that tomorrow now instead!!! Got a wash mitt that Thomas finds amusing on the other one though!!!!

Thanks for the kiss tip Diege, I've just brought him a cherry and a strawberry lip balm and he screamed the house down when I put it on him - grrrrr

Welcome aboard Bob2, like Rodeo said I should be an October thread mum too, but they just can't get rid of me Grin As you can see we're a friendly lot, where abouts in the country are you as we tend to meet up every so often too.

Right best go as I'm supposed to be wrapping a pass the parcel present with Ben. Catch you all later Beks

BEKsmum · 28/02/2006 15:40

Nova sorry crossed posts with you there, you're right about the infection it's a bit like thrush - nice!

Go on move to south london with the rest of us - you know you want to really!

Tessa you wicked mummy!!! We all know what to send Ash for his bitherday now don't we!!!

Right i'm off Beks

babyonboard · 28/02/2006 15:49

lol tessa..this was a gift from someone who has 4 kids so she should have known better!
reminds me of the drum i got for xmas aged 5ish..after one day it was placed on top of the kitchen cupboards and never brought down again..

parenting does make you mildly crazy..at the moment our fvourite 'song' to sing to O is 'oskar..cute little baby..' to the 'miffy' theme tune..found myself humming it in the supermarket queue the other day

beks..sounds good! could you maybe make it on wednesday as it's my birthday and i'll be all alone as dp/friends re all working..how selfish!heehee...

nova I agree! move south!lol..you'd feel right at home as ther are plenty of bugaboos in these parts too..heehee

oh and welcome bob2!

babyonboard · 28/02/2006 15:57

nova - glad the yoga's going well..i attempted some pilates yesterday in the privacy of home, before i rejoin the clsses. for some reason it was easier when I was 8 months pregnant with spd..lol..
must get helthy and fit again!

Busyalexsmummy · 28/02/2006 17:11

beks-lolGrin, i checked with newsagent today and it hasnt arrived yet so, might be out tommorrow, (its the april issue-so you dont buy the wrong one, lol)

LilJ · 28/02/2006 17:30

Golden - what time does Baby Bounce start? I'd love to try and come along - Nate loves me singing to him. Thankfully he doesn't yet realize that I'm a terrible singer Smile - but maybe Baby Bounce will clue him in ... or at least make him realize that I make up most of the words to the songs I sing him ...

J xx

bob2110 · 28/02/2006 17:47

BEKsmum, I'm in Reigate in Surrey. Have to admit I did take a peak at the October thread but preferred the look of this one. I have to go & make dinner now so it is ready when dp comes home to keep alive the myth that a whole year's maternity leave for me is a good thing for him too! Need to be organised as we are trying an earlier bedtime for G tonight, fingers crossed.

Candiemom · 28/02/2006 18:04

Tex, what a relief. I bet it just clears up on its own now that you're not quite as worried. Do I read properly that she has reflux? Mine does too and I have a load of info on it if you're interested (mostly from the net).

Hi bob2110, I'm new too and I can attest that this is a lovely bunch! I've been feeling dreary too -- apparently normal at this stage. But it's not like normal blues because I'm so deliriously happy with ds and dp. Weird.

Golden, would love to join for babybounce tho we have second innoculation at 9 what time is it? Also thanks for the tip on Greenwich Picturehouse Cinema -- I have looked it up and looks like it's Capote at 11 am this Friday. Anyone interested?

Tessasmum I laughed and laughed at your dh's comment.

Do any of you do swimming?

And is busy in a magazine?? I haven't been around long enough to know the scoop.

Candiemom · 28/02/2006 18:08

babyonboard sorry meant to thank you for Greenwich tip! Also tex yes -- once you are up to it it would be great to put names to faces.

ChaCha · 28/02/2006 18:29

Hello everyone,

Felt v.strange on seeing the due in Nov 06 thread. Brought back many memories.

Jenjam - You have a great way with words. Loved the imagery, i too adore that 'cat' look. It's my favourite.

Nova - Well done on Nat's promotion to advanced swimmer. Tex - Hope Rosie is better soon and that it's nothing too serious. Busy - Also hope you're feeling better.

Hello to everyone else, lots to do, catch up again soon. Byeee

babyonboard · 28/02/2006 18:30

heehee..seems a few of us are getting into the 'media thing'.
i'd love to do a mag feature..if only to have a picture of me with o..seems i'm always the one taking the pics..lol..

candi...would love to see capote..but am torn between going to gymboree or cinema..i'm lousy i know (sorry nova!), but it's such a trek to west london...

and hooray for 'liking the look' of us guys..we are the best of all due in/antenatal threads...big up for nov.2005..heeheee

goldenoldie · 28/02/2006 18:34

LilJ/Candi - baby bounce starts at 11am. Mildmay Library. www.islington.gov.uk/Education/Libraries/Local/Mildmay.asp
See you there?

Then back to my place for coffee if you both fancy it?

I've never been before, so don't shoot the messenger if it is rubbish - although I'm sure the babies will like it!

Karmamother · 28/02/2006 19:53

Hi all,

Diege, Ella had a nasty rash under her chin a while back. She was given Nystaform HC cream which is for fungal infections. The HC bit is hydracortisone which reduces the inflammation. It cured it in a day! Might be worth a trip to the docs.

Beartime, I'll be seeing the HV on Thursday. I saw my GP yesterday mainly to let her know about my Edinburgh score result & to keep her in the picture. There's not much you can say in a 10 min appointment, is there? I said I didn't want happy pills just yet so she wants me to see her again in 2 weeks. TBH I get more help from talking to my HV, she's actually quite good.

Tex, hope Rosie gets better soon. It must have been really scary for you.

BoB, you naughty mummy! Taking out the batteries? Actually, this reminded my of DS's old Barney. Now that was infuriating. We moved house when he was 2 & Barney was squashed in a suitcase & constantly sang his bloody song for 3 days till we found him!!

BOB2110, welcome to our group, it's very supportive on here.

Beksmum, You're right, it's impossible to get lipsalve on a boy. I just used to attack DS before I dropped him off at school. With the lip balm, of course.Grin It's funny you thinking Thomas & Ella are alike, I remember back in the early days you saying how much Thomas cried & I thought it was just my offspring that did that!

Chacha, good to hear from you!

Nova, you sound like a very athletic lot, you & Nat! I was worn out just carrying Ella in her sling last week.Blush

Looking forward to tomorrow as I'm meeting up with postnatal girls. Missed them last week as I was busy having a bit of a breakdown.Sad Looking back, I can't remember what started it off. Blush

Was very pissed off at DP last night. He snores louder than a Harley Davidson without a silencer!! During her middle of the night feed, I have to keep nudging DP to keep the noise down as he wakes her up. Usually, she falls asleep during the feed quite well but last night he let out a huge grunt, turned over & groaned just as I was putting her back down. Ping!! Wide awake. 30 mins later....still wide awake whilst DP having a lovely sleep!Angry I asked him to go next door & he was very annoyed. I then had to pick her up & stick her back on the boob to get her back to sleep. A 10 min feed kept me up for 1 & 1/4 hours. If my total night's disturbance consisted of being woken up & asked to go next door, I'd be laughing! I considered going next dor myself but he can sleep through her loudest crying. Believe me, I've put it to the test.Wink

Thanks for that, I always feel better for a rant.

beartime · 28/02/2006 20:10

hmmmm... Candie I don't think he does have reflux then cos he seems OK on his back after feeds. Actually I've noticed if I really make an effort to relax when he does his back arching thing he calms down - so maybe he's just ultrasensitive and I'm the most tense at that time of the day, having just cooked dinner, and tried to keep him from being overstimulated Grin

Tex - DH says spring break is wild! When we went there we drove on the beach and he said everyone goes camping there during spring break. He came over here as a missionary to help plant a church (a calvary chapel - more common in California). He feels a bit out of place here sometimes though, being so 'loud' Grin They just don't have the same sense of humour here as in Texas - they do in Southern Ireland though. We went there and he fitted right in! You don't happen to have a good recipe for chicken and dumpling soup/carne guisada/black-eyed peas, do you? He loves all of those but is hopeless at explaining how to cook them!

Busy - when Caleb had a cold I put saline drops in his nose a bit before his feed, and then used a nasal aspirator to get some of the gunk out - he screamed the place down but it worked Grin

Nova - I'm glad no-one lives near me - I'm haven't got the energy to leave the house! That's interestig about her needing more sleeo - must help you get lots done! Caleb only seems to need about 14.5hrs.

LOL at the singing - Today I found myself singing DH's fav song with Caleb 'cheek cheek cheek, chin chin chin...' to the tune of 'This Old Man'!

Hi Bob - welcome too, though I still feel new as I've never met up with anyone and only joined late October when I got desperate for some understanding people!!

Caleb played with his first toy today - actually picked it up with both hands, turned it around, looked at it and sucked on it! B4 that he's never given any toys a second glance apart from the hanging ones. And he is doing so good on his tummy that he can actually look all the way up and grin at me while I'm sitting in a chair Shock

Diege · 28/02/2006 21:31

Evening everyone! Still chuckling from reading KARMAS post about Barney in a Suitcase, and snoring DH Grin. Thanks for all your advice about LIbby's sore skin too; yes, I think it must be fungal, and will give it another day before drs I think. Remember the other two having it too, but can't remember what I did Blush (probably nothing then!).
BEKS ...wow...your article is OUT AND IN THE SHOPS!!!!! I'm a subscriber to PP, and read the article a few days ago without even thinking it was you Blush. VERY impressed; re-read it tonight and the bits about DP pulling up your knickers, and the 'hot sex' still made me chuckle Grin. Yes girls, it is PP, and not one of the lads's mags Grin Wink. You all look lovely BTW Smile.
BEARTIME: v. impressed with Caleb's toy- holding; we're lucky if the swinging toys get a feeble kick Grin.
The annoying song of the week here is theme tune to the 'Koala brothers', and (irritatingly) dd1 has picked up pussy cat dolls' song from older girls at Link club, though sings it 'don't cha wish your girlfriend was HEART like me' (aaahhh).
Hope everyone gets a good night's sleep tonight!
Diege Smile
