i had a wheat intolerance for over 10 years but for some reason it has more or less gone since having eva. not sure why.

P is really getting in to the 6 month growth spurt early! I read it is a big one but come on, does it need to involve hourly waking, nip stretching, boob grabbing and touching my face whilst feeding and general wiggling around? At least as a newborn she just got on and fed, now she is too nosey (don't know what she thinks there is to look at at 3am).

I have read this spurt can last from a few days to about 3 weeks, we have already done one weeks worth. She better come out of it super clever

FD it's supposed be a growth spurt, mental development, weight and potentially nappy size increase. I wonder if that's why S has shot up the centiles so much?

cheshire am glad I read your post as A is doing the same! I was up 4 times last night, and in bed late - I am tired. He has been grabbing me too, and wanting a feed every 2 hours. I hope it blows over soon.

I was just talking to my step-father and I feel really hurt, he started telling me how I'm a good Mum and that "everyone" is really surprised because they all thought I'd be "cold and detached" as I have been that way with my nieces and nephew. Talk about a back handed compliment - I now feel really bad that such things were said at all and paranoid about what has been said behind my back. Gaaa. I feel silly for feeling as bad about it as I do

cheshire I hope and pray I don't have that coming!! She is 6 months tomorrow but hasn't been up or down yet. This past week she has decided she doesn't want to sleep through the day and has went from 3 x 30 mins to 1x 30 mins and 10 minutes in the car! Still sleeping through the night etc, so I'm hoping she will just pass this one nicely rather than the 4 months one that was a week of hell with no sleep!! P will be a wonder child at the end of it

Just had my hair done, yay! My mums coming up to take S so I can get proper packed and tidied up. I try do it at night but I'm going round in circles and making more of a mess! Sunny day here so hoping to get the 3+ loads of washing out into the garden to dry as half of it is stuff I want to take, typical eh?!

Pene - I don't think people realise the things they say are actually as hurtful as they are but doesn't take the sting away from them. Clearly you are a fantastic mother though for them all to comment! Let's hope he just chose his words badly x

My mother has great delight in telling everyone I'm 'a good mum in that I'd do anything for my children BUT (and here's the clear insult coming!) I'm not a maternal mother in a way my sisters are). Apparently this is because I don't like to play children's games and won't sit on the floor for hours playing with the kids toys' (although swap it for painting / cooking and generally makings mess I'm fine). And because I want my career as well. Every time she makes this comment it inevitably turns me into a 13 year old and I huff off in a strop!

pene sometimes people say stupid things. Ignore him (hard I know). I have a 'dysfunctional' family who can say some really stupid stuff. Upsets me but dh gives me a virtual slap and reminds me not to let it bother me. (still does tho)

Thanks for your comments! bb3 that sounds familiar - someone in my family said once that I am a much more serious than my sister in that I read more to my kids but she does more silly play. My thoughts were "how do you know?", noone watches me or her all the time so how do they get these ideas apart from the things we say. The career thing is strange too, I am a pure stay home mum at present, but because I am going back to work, I feel like I am considered a "career mum" in a bad way unlike people I know and am related to who work a few days a week in ad hoc jobs who are almost seen as stay-home-mums-who-have-to-work even though they are the ones actually working, not me. If that makes sense.

Pene I'd back cupcakes, paint pictures , colour in, build lego, read etc until the cows come home, it's just the way I'm made I like things to have a purpose - I'll broom broom on the floor for a bit but it just gets a bit dull! I happen to think I'm very maternal, I carried and delivered three children, breastfed them, I settle them to sleep, comfort them and play with them (not that these things define maternal instincts), I'd protect them with my life and am sat here awake for third night in a row holding Edie upright as it's the only way she can sleep with her sickness bug. But apparently 3 days worth of no sleep and enough love to sink a battle ship doesn't matter if I don't play make believe mr octopus! oh well

Just watched Jessica up on her hands and knees moving backwards in her cot. Yikes, I thought I had longer before she'd be mobile. She's only just 5 months.

Cy is an absolute machine in the walker, he's figured out forwards/backwards and can turn! The ward is a circle (hard to describe, theres an outdoor centre and the rooms surround it. He can do a lap all the way round

I dealt with it v calmly at first basically just tried to comfort mhairi then told Christopher to stop throwing things he then laughed and I lost it and smacked him several times on the back of the hand. when he later calmed down I explained again to stop throwing things as he hurt M. He gave her a hug/kiss said sorry and they're both fine again now.

Had a great afternoon today, cleaned out the garden shed and cut grass mowed my own foot though ouch! Then spent afternoon in a neighbours garden.

ed I think S would have probably laughed or thrown a strop, shouted "fine" at me and hid under bed. The laughing I would have gone a bit raaarrrh. He is getting better and kisses her good night but he doesn't want to be holding or cuddling her and prefers her at a distance. I've started chasing him with J trying to catch him. It's very funny and he loves it

Ok, bad mummy confession... J loves ice cream she was pinching my magnum today. I've also not slowly introduced one food at a time, just let her eat what we do. Was spaghetti bolognese (quorn) tonight with a dash of milk as she scoffed loads. I'm so rubbish as really couldn't say what time she sleeps and feeds. Everyday a blur at the moment. I am going to try and write it down as there's a routine I just can't always see it. Ah she's awake, feed time.

Wow - I can't believe we almost have a crawler! M can't even roll yet, she is trying though....well done to Jessica, she's doing brilliantly.

BB3 - I think you sound like a fantastic mum. I find playing a bit boring too, I much prefer creating things, dancing or doing stuff that has an outcome you can see - like jigsaws. Hope E is well soon and that you get to catch up on sleep this weekend.

I haven't been on here in ages, so can't remember if I mentioned that M has lip tie (like tongue tie but at the top, a thick piece of skin connecting her lip to her gums). I had been having massive feeding issues - really excrutiatingly painful, milk blisters, blocked milk ducts...and that was from 3 months onwards, however it has all got a lot better since finding out that lip tie is probably the cause, some strange psychological thing with me being more relaxed about feeding. The paediactric surgeon saw us this week and although he thought the frenulum was thicker than he'd expect we have decided not to go ahead with the procedure as he didn't think it was too bad.

The low weight gain is still an issue - M is only 11'8 (she started at 7'5) - now below 2nd percentile for weight and on 0.4th for height, 0-3 clothes fit and even still some newborn stuff. She's only put on 1.5 ounces in the last 3 weeks despite me feeding for around 6 hours a day!! Hopefully weaning at 6 months will help her start to pile the weight on.
