fantastic news about mrs d. will go and see the photo.

dd2, my prize tantrummer, never tantrummed at nursery, or school. she's always been the perfect, helpful, delightful child there, a regular teacher's pet. she saves the tantrums for us. am resigned to the fact that for some children it's obviously not a toddler stage, more a long term personality trait
(she's the one people say is just like me )

It's all go here

Congratulations Fennel! Lets hope you sell your house quickly and you can look forward to a summer of sun, sand and sea!!

Thank you all ladies for your good wishes over the weekend. I've got loads of catching up to do but also a load pf sleeping to do. I'm still here in my pj's with ds wrapped up in my new sling and I'm contemplting having a lavender bath, the bathing him.
Then maybe I'll light the fire and catch some more zzz's.

Sounds idyllic MrsD . I'm impressed you're finding time to post on mumsnet too!

How are the other new babies doing? (sons of Chuffed and Hunkermunker?)

Hope ds has had a better day today tracyk. Hello mummytosteven

Thanks! I've had a lovely day - watched my presents being opened by ds's this morning and my birthday cake being eaten by them at tea time!!

Meanwhile... we're umming and ahhing about whether to introduce a potty to ds2. It feels way too early (especially as ds1 didn't train until he was 3.5!) but ds2 is now dry when he has daytime naps and told me today when he was doing a wee - and he generally tells us now when he needs a poo and then about 10 minutes later when he's done it!! So I suppose the signs are that he's ready - but I'm just not sure. Has anyone else started yet? I'm worried we might miss the 'window' (Gina quote!)??!

Hey all, congrats MrsD. how do you pronounce Rhuaridh sorry it that is silly.
Things are just really busy and hard in our house, still not in our place, hopefully the end of the month so we essentially have been living out of suitcases since the end of August. dd hasn't really had any big tantrums yet (touch wood) she sometimes throws herself on the floor and I say do you want to walk or shall I carry you and she generally just gets up and walks with you.
ds is now a wopping just over 8.5pounds at 7wks old but has grown length wise again and barely fits any 0-3mth grows now. Is incredibly hungry all the time but am starting to get it together.
Still having problems after my birth both mentally and physically went to doctor today and she said if things aren't right by 3mths then she will refer me to gyne.
dot we have started unofficial potty training with dd. She did her first wee in the potty yesterday, she wouldn't turn onto her back during nappy change and ds was screaming so I shut the bathroom door and went to see him, when I came back she had pulled the potty out from under the change table and was sitting on it and did a wee. She too tells us sometimes 1/2 hr before a poo but as soon as it is in her nappy without fail. I'm just about to order some training pants so she can get in and out easily. We are just going to go it pretty casual with it all for now.
Weather still awesome here enjoying the heat, off to the park everyday which has been nice.
Anyway take care all, enjoy your little one MrsD. I keep telling myself other people have managed with the difficulties so so can I. iykwim.

Hi Ladies. Isn't it great how this thread is still going? Two years on!
Well I feel like I've been in the boxing ring with aches and pains, although no tears or piles! Post labour pains hurt though.
Dd is back today with dm, dh and I can't wait to see her reaction. There is no doubting she is a 'proper little madam', full of confidence and assertiveness, she has been busy telling everybody what she wants and what to do while on her little holiday. No way will we be potty training her before SHE IS READY! Everytime I have phoned dm she has been talking or 'demanding' in the background. The downside to this, of course, the tantrums. We those! Plenty of them. I'm becoming a really hard nut I'm afraid.

Chuffed, I've heard you are experiencing fabulous weather downunder, must make things nicer. Btw we have chosen the modern Gaelic spelling for 'Ruairi' (yes I've changed it) pronounced Rory. I was adamant I wanted a Gaelic spelling for an original Gaelic name but feedback from dh and family had persuaded me that the modern spelling is the way to go. Typical of me to confuse everyone

Anyway, keep posting everyone

chuffed, sorry to hear it's been tough. it does get a lot easier as they get a bit older. the house uncertainty must be very difficult to live with.

mrs D, my dd2 has a friend Rory. i have seen all 3 versions of the name, don't think it's that confusing.

haven't persisted with dd3's potty training, instead her nappy rash cleared up and we stuck her back in a nappy. she's not interested really. but dot if he's keen why not try. dd2 was fine at this age. it was summer though for her...

we're considering training ds. He comes to us and says 'bum' which means he wants a bum change.. then 10 min later he says 'poo' which means he's gone! We keep meaning to just put him o the potty when he says the first time but he still isn't brilliant at communicating it iykwim, and I'd rather we are consistent so he doesn't get confused to. Have bought him pants though, and he's so good with nappy changes at mils (goes and gets the mat, lies down and tries to undo nappy! not at ours!) she's sure he'll be dry this summer... great! me 36 weeks pg, a hosue of 6 kids with 3 potty training! Argh!

lunavix - don't worry, not too much of half term left now! hope you get through it ok!

chuffed - sorry you have been having problems - not sure what's up (besides the obvious house stress) but I hope things resolve soon.

What did dd make of ds MrsD? (have you got used to typing ds yet? )

Report
mummytosteven · 17/02/2006 09:01

hello! DS is way off training - he's just starting to tell us when he's done a poo, so we'll change him. Even if he's not showing "signs" of readiness, think I'll make a political attempt at training at 2.5, to stop the relatives etc nagging!

I'm going to wait till summer and then try to go straight to toilet - I can't be doing with potties lying around all over the place - yuk!
ds vomiting has stopped now - tho 2 days in a row waking at 5.30 am starving hungry - I hope this doesn't last!

yuk tracyk , have complete sympathy , we had it here too ! thought he was teething again until I went down with it as well - vicious sod this one !
am condidering going straight to loo also as someone suggested to buy a potting and leave it around so ds got used it , he only puts it on his head and carries bits of apple in it though , now worrried that he is confused as to what it is supposed to b-4 , nothing is ever easy !

We have our potty sitting around in case dd3 gets the urge. she sits on it ritually after her bath. She doesn't do anything. just sits and gets up again to a round of applause. I don't think she has any idea of how to use it properly. she doesn't show any signs of readiness.

Mrs D gone quiet or is she just being active on other threads?

MrsDoolittle · 17/02/2006 22:18

Naaaa she's gone quiet!
DS has terrible colic poor love and it's all happening at night, so I'm totally screwed. Feel like I'm working night shifts. He's a week old tomorrow and I think (dare I say it?) things are beginning to settle down but I'm still knackered.
Dm went home today and tomorrow is our first full day together as a family of four!!!
Catch you later. Have a good weekend folks

Chuffed · 20/02/2006 08:48

good luck dolbear with the operation. Hope it all goes smoothly.
MrsD hope the day alone goes ok, our big thing is ds bathing with dd in the evenings. We put him on a chair in the big bath and she washes him gently with the cloth and pours water on his tummy. Who says they need toys in the bath, just a brother. Caught her singing to him today when he was crying. Really should get the video out.
Can't believe ds is 8wks old already, he is still a tiny chap last week at weigh in he wasn't even 9pounds and we are worried about his wheeziness. I'm still totally shattered and feel useless but I'm sure life will continue to improve.
Went to the zoo again today for the 3rd time in 2wks, we have an annual pass. Fed the giraffes, patted a pet rat, and caught a bunch of things we didn't see the other two times, every time we go she seems to get something different out of it. MrsD next time you are in NZ you must go it is a great zoo.
Take care all

ds eating for Scotland now - making up for his sickness bug. Its amazing how 4 days of no food made his little ribs and hip bones stick right out! But 1 day of eating normally and he padded back out again.
MrsD - hope ds is getting better.
How did the op go Dolbear?
My friend just had No3 and can't believe how tired she is - we must all be getting old!

is snowing here nad life has got crazy again with dm in danger of loosing her house again in two weeks i wish the world would stop for a bit
ds wll only eat toast - gone off bananas and apples - serves me right for feeling we got the hang of it ! maybe I should buy some ' how to ' books , but they will only make me feel worse i think, I know I am making a hash of the whole food thing , but can't help thinking it is not worth the upset as long as he eats, he eats all the food they give him @ nursary - fruit/cheese /etc little bugger

Was just thinking how crap I am at inspiration for ds meals. I need some books to encourage me to try new things. Tho I am making Enids chicken nuggets for tea tonight! yummy

dd just eats what we have now. If she doesn't eat it, we get her to have 5 mouthfulls and then she gets pudding.
No special meals being cooked in our house, no time, never was.

Report
tracyk · 24/02/2006 08:45

I do the same - no diff meals here - I eat what ds eats!
dh is away Mon-Fri - so he doesn't have to be catered for. I'm hoping that eating earlier than normal with ds will result in some weight loss. ha ha!
