Hello all. Couldn't see a new thread so thought I'd do the honours. Sorry for rubbish title, I'm no good at witty! :)

dg that's a lovely idea having a pre- starting school picnic Smile. I might suggest that before DD starts next year. Would make the first day of term easier if we can put a few names to faces.

Meglet · 25/07/2012 22:31

ooo, you've all vanished to enjoy the sunshine Smile.

I was a slack mummy today, the dc's didn't get to bed until almost 9:30 as it was so hot and frankly, I really couldn't be bothered to battle with them for once. My Gina Ford book is glaring at me from the bookshelf Wink.

digitalgirl · 26/07/2012 20:00

Did the park in the morning but we've been dodging the unbareable afternoon sun today - went to Brent Cross for a bit of shopping in an air-conditioned environment. Thought everyone would be doing it but it was surprisingly crowd-free.

Apparently will be 20c on Monday which is much more pleasant #thingsineverthoughtidsay

Torch
Kagey · 28/07/2012 20:21

I like the torch meglet I'm on my phone and can't see that one Envy.

I'm feeling very sorry for myself as the cold that had Bern brewing all week has decided to become a proper one now, so as I'm home alone with 2 sleeping dd's I'm tucked up in bed watching the swimming and will go to sleep once I've finished on MN. DH is at a stag weekend.

I am super excited as we finally got Olympic tickets and are going to the swimming on Friday! We are not taking the dd's which I feel a Sad about but I will be taking them to see the marathon instead!

Have a lovely weekend zzzzzzzz

Meglet · 29/07/2012 20:24

ooo, swimming will be fantastic kagey! I'm watching it on the TV now. Hope you're much better by then.

Are you all enjoying the Olympics?

I love the BBC coverage, we can watch practically every sport and have been watching lots of swimming, Gymnastics and equestrian. Dp is looking forward to the athletics and Robyn and the other dc's are waiting for the closing ceremony.
Are any of you watching it not through Sky? My mum has a digi box and she complains about the red button coverage not being as good as Sky. I want to give her a ring but don't want her moaning about not seeing enough and her hatred for Sky

Badvoc · 30/07/2012 17:18

am enjoying what I am seeing debs

Meglet · 30/07/2012 18:18

I've hardly turned it off.

DD is currently running up and down the living room shouting "Neighhh!!". The show jumping is on Grin.

Badvoc · 30/07/2012 18:26

...not doing to well though are we? :(

notcitrus · 30/07/2012 18:52

Don't have Sky. My red button isn't working - not sure if that's the telly or the remote or our TV recorder which decided to blow up after the opening ceremony (I made it halfway through before going to bed!). Luckily MrNC has found a spare if noisy power supply so A is happily watching Octonauts again...

Been watching bits of some sports and explaining them to A, and looking forward to going to two events next week. With a 3 and 4 yo and a 5-month baby... suspect we will leave the fencing early as it goes from 9am to 4.30pm!

A's best friend has just left nursery (to go to the one in the school his sibling is at), which is sad but we've been invited over to play. I hope A makes new close friends though - apart from anything else if I ask A what he did today, he always says 'nothing' but if I ask what B did, it's always B and I did this, me and B did that, C wanted to do this but B said and I said... for the next few minutes! :)

Debs75 · 30/07/2012 19:09

We've just won a silver in the gymnastics, although there is a stewards enquiry but that shouldn't affect us.
Oh wait it might affect us so they are debating it now, god this is tense, first time in about 80 years we have won a team medal and they are bloody debating it
I've been watching it mostly on BBC iplayer today which is really good as you can watch it from any point of that sport which you can't do on the TV

Debs75 · 30/07/2012 19:13

Oh God the Japanese won it and we have gone down to bronze. The crowd are booing like mad. It is still brilliant for us but to get silver for about 10 minutes was great, then to lose it down to bronze feels like a loss

Meglet · 31/07/2012 21:18

(stating the bleedin' obvious comment of the day).

There is so much sport on telly at the moment. I keep worrying I'm missing a huge win on the other sides Confused.

CappuccinoCarrie · 31/07/2012 22:45

Hi everyone! We're 'back' from staycation! It was the best holiday ever, no travel or accommodation expense, just great day trips and proper nights sleep in our own bed! It was so nice being just our family for a week as we're usually with one set of parents when we go away (which will happen later this summer and will be wonderful) but the quality time was just lovely. We took the kids to a theme park (Flamingo Land) which has tonnes of kid friendly rides for our wussy 3 and 5 year olds, and loads that DS2 could go on too! Lots of rides have a height restriction 'unless accommpanied by an adult' so we took him on a couple of rollercoasters with his own harness and everything (not upside downs obviously) and he was laughing like a loon, he loved it! We were there from before it opened in the morning til after it shut at night, and as we went on the very first monday of the holidays it wasn't busy at all, we only had to queue for one thing and some rides the kids just stayed on a rode again immediately. We also went to the beach last week, and to Newby Hall (historic house and gardens with miniature railway, adventure playground and water play). For the first time in my entire life people are commenting that I'm tanned

I'm still enjoying DD being off school, partly coz she's so good at playing with the boys Blush I could even do the vacuuming in the day today as I can trust her to keep an eye on DS2 for me, she watches him like a hawk and plays really nicely with him. Obv she and DS1 do argue, and he was super tired today, but generally I'm just really enjoying the laid back days and not rushing off to school and activities, its like the good old days before school took my beautiful girl away and made my life crazy busy!

MrsA sounds like your DS is getting on great despite the tongue tie, tricky call to make though.

Hi star how are you getting on with your new bundle of joy?

Good skills on the uniform shopping DG

Anyone else noticed a spate of pg announcements among their friends lately? These things seem to go in waves, there's a massive load of people with babies due in the next few weeks, then a big lull and now a sudden load announcing for Jan/Feb.

I've barely seen any olympics yet as our TV is in the lounge, but we play in the kitchen/diner/snug all the time, so that's a genius idea to put iplayer on the computer, will see a lot more olympics tomorrow Grin

Debs75 · 01/08/2012 10:22

I know what you mean, meglet, I have been anxiously swapping over in the 'dull' bits and catching up on iplayer. Cant get enough of sport and cant wait for the paraolympics, although I will be away for them

digitalgirl · 01/08/2012 19:47

We're going to see an athletics session at the Paralympics! Can't wait! Specially with that great C4 promo to get us all excited! (and I normally am completely unbothered by sporting events).

carrie staycation sounds fab. I always think we should do that - but I fear that we'd just end up doing bloody chores.

Went to Willows Farm today. Cost a bloody fortune, but ds1 and my brothers loved it! And I totally underestimated how much food to bring. 8 & 12 yo boys eat a helluva lot more than nearly 4 year olds. Thankfully there were plenty of homemade chocolate flapjacks to go round.

Yesterday we went to a free storytelling session in the woods. Both ds' enjoyed it - made me realise that it's probably time I started doing things like rhyme time and monkey music with ds2.

Meglet · 01/08/2012 20:56

digi we have Paralympics Stadium tickets too, Sat 8th and park only on the 1st, which gets us into wheelchair basketball and a few other things. I am insanely over-excited about going Grin. I've already got the Public Enemy / CH4 track on my ipod for the gym.

I've already noticed 5.8yo DS eating bigger portions, despite being the shape of a baby giraffe. Never mind wanting a new house for storage / more personal space, we need more kitchen cupboards and a huge fridge freezer! XP's sister has teenage boys and she said they just eat and eat and eat.

carrie your staycation sounds lovely. There's a lot to be said for slowing down a bit and enjoying local days out.

digitalgirl · 02/08/2012 11:06

Stadium tx? Does that mean you're there the whole day? Brilliant!
We're just doing a morning session. Bought them when pregnant so wasn't sure how we'd cope doing more than a morning. Will be taking both boys - ds1 loves a tube ride and will hopefully enjoy being in the olympic park. Ds2 pretty chilled in the carrier.

Oh god, teenage boys. May just have to get a freestanding beast of a fridge just for them when the time comes. Prob invest in a bread maker too if it helps save money.

DebiTheScot · 02/08/2012 20:51

We are OBSESSED with the Olympics here. DS1 and 2 would watch it for 14 hours a day if I let them. They like to bicker over what to watch though. Earlier it was an argument over handball or fencing! Their favourites so far have been cycling, gymnastics and handball.

We've seen the mens and womens road cycling and I went to a GB womens football match. We've still got canoeing to come. Then athletics and park tickets in paralympics. I'm very excited and spending every evening hitting refresh on the website to try and get more tickets.

Meglet · 02/08/2012 22:25

digi we have morning sadium tickets, but I assume that means we can wander around in the park for the rest of the day and see what we missed the previous week. Mum was fretting as she could only get a 10am session and whether the kids would be ready in time but I told her we will get there even if they go in PJ's and munching toast Grin. I think we will have to leave home at 7am ish that day.

Just got back from Volleyball, I had to head into Tescos for wine to soothe my nerves once we got off the train. Quiet day at home tomorrow then back up on Saturday for table tennis.

Meglet · 05/08/2012 12:48

ooo, you've all vanished!

I'm just waiting for some potatoes to finish boiling to make mash for the DC's lunch.

DebiTheScot · 05/08/2012 19:13

I'm on day 5 of select venue, refresh, refresh, refresh, ooooo, ooooo, tickets, tickets, quick, quick, choose, wait in queue, wait in queue, wait in queue, booooo, no tickets, refresh, wait in queue again (repeat several times), booo there's really no tickets. Start again.

notcitrus · 06/08/2012 00:04

Saw fencing at ExCel yesterday. The semi finals were close and excellent to watch, but the earlier rounds showed why fencing has never become a telly sport. Though miffed the final wasn't on Iplayer. The boys enjoyed getting to wear real fencing masks and play with rubber foils in the hall outside. It all went very smoothly even carrying the baby, though we soon realised any food buying or loo breaks needed to be while play was happening, as the huge queues went to zero. And there was the moment DP left for a loo break leaving me with all 3 kids in the crowd - luckily someone came by offering overpriced chocolate. So choc mascots stopped them running away!

Went on the cable car after, which was great fun, and the queue was only about 5 min. Really looking forward to seeing athletics this week and the stadium atmosphere, and will be much easier to understand what is happening! Then visiting family etc up north the next day, so bit stressed sorting everything beforehand. At least BIL has only slightly older kids so has all the stuff we might need. Now if only that baby would finish this phase of waking every couple hours for no obvious reason...
