Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
PenguinArmy · 15/03/2012 19:31

Yes IC you are right that with her them it is about appearances. They have the obligatory show room that they don't use. They sit/watch TV in a snug elsewhere. I should have realised when they made comments about the fact we didn't de-weed/de-moss our front lawn or mow it once a week Grin

abs good to see you again. I have had the letter inviting me to a appointment for the two year check. Is it worth it? Your DD sounds like she is doing amazing. I blame DS's arrival for anything DD can't do Grin like go to bed when she is suppose to. I hope my rather eloquent post regarding you made you smile.

mous :( hope you are OK, we don't mind random offloading, even if it is long.

DD is most certainly back in a active phase. We had a play date this afternoon and the host was quite suprised as DD is quite sedate at playgroup. It's not that crowds bother her, just she needs to eye the situation first, plus there isn't always running space at groups. She has really started to play with other children now, it is lovely to watch.

AbsB · 15/03/2012 20:10

Mous I think she is just an early talker, she didn't start crawling till she was nine months and didn't start walking till nearly fifteen months. I think they all do different things at different times. The only thing I'd say that we do a lot is read, read, read and ask her lots of questions about what we are reading. But as I say, I think some walk early and some talk early Hmm.

BG on the potty training front, I went to a friend's house when DD was 15 months old, she is a childminder so had lots of potties knocking about, we went round for tea and her DS who was 3 sat on the potty and did a wee. DD looked interested and went over to it, so I pulled down her nappy and sat her on it as a joke and she did a wee! After that I just encouraged her to go on any loo, in any field when walking the dogs and let her watch me. We read books while we're on the loo and she now gets a whole chocolate button if she does a poo and half a button if she does a wee. Now she runs up the stairs after breakfast and supper shouting "I want a chocolate button!" and Bingo! If we are out and about, I tell her she can have a button when she gets home (she always forgets so it's a white lie...)

Yes PA I thought your post was very articulate, it made me smile! I thought the two year check up was very useful just because we've moved to a different area and she told me about local NHS dentists, and we talked about DD's sleep which is less than impressive. She also recommended that DD take Dalivit, a multivitamin. She's taken it before but it tastes quite disgusting so I stopped giving it about a year ago. She mentioned that the only reason they are now recommending at least taking a Vitamin D supplement is that we don't make D ourselves and there isn't enough sunlight to produce the rda. They are recommending that all children take it until the age of 5. She asked DD to build a tower to test her fine motor skills and watched her climb up and down the stairs, run, draw a picture and weighed and measured her.

IC that is SO EXCITING. Congratulations to you and MrIC. Fingers crossed for your results. What is his new job?

Not sure about pig intestines for breakfast Rainbow Grin, your trip does sound lovely.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/03/2012 20:30

Abs DH is doing his PGCE at the moment, so this will be his first secondary teaching job (paid!). First time lucky, too! [proud wife emoticon]

PenguinArmy · 15/03/2012 20:37

No custard available I'm afraid.

StoneBaby · 15/03/2012 21:21

Abs lovely to hear from you. I'm well impressed on the language and potty.

DS is once again only going on the potty if some else than me ask him Hmm He is enjoying been with my mum and auntie and they're delighted that he did recognise them (we skype a lot so he does know them).

PA You and your DH are doing a great job. Nod and smile and rant here as much as you need to.

Mous everything okay?

scones I hope the move went well and that your silence is because you haven't got internet yet. Good luck unpacking.

IC fx for the pre-results and yepee on the strong heartbeat.

DS has now learnt how to peel a clementine or tine like he calls them

BabyGiraffes · 15/03/2012 21:25

dh got home at just after 7 to a quiet house, two children asleep, with pizza baking in the oven.. He was a bit spooked! dd2 refused her lunchtime nap, so was zonked by 20 past 6 tonight, and dd1 can't quite read the clock herself and put herself to bed just before 7... Grin. It probably means they will both be up about 6 tomorrow morning Hmm but lovely to have a proper long dinner with dh and wine [hic] without having to rush upstairs to resettle children.
[hic]

PenguinArmy · 15/03/2012 21:26

SB I also discovered DD can peel a clementine when she went in the the drawer and got one out. She can also do banana's and pulling grapes off.

My mum's skype video call is quite bad (she has too much light on them and the wrong angle) but she can still pick them all out and if she hears the dogs then the camera has to be turned to them.

I might have eaten all the doughnuts Blush You lot were no good at all Grin

StoneBaby · 15/03/2012 21:29

BG great news on the early night and quiet evening with your DH. How is your DD2 doing?

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/03/2012 21:54

Am I too late for a doughnut?

SB DD calls them "pelanteena" and will also happily peel one if she's in the mood. She went through a phase of just wanting to peel them, but not that bothered about actually eating the contents. Bananas she loves peeling, then gets upset that once she's peeled them, the peel won't go back on again Hmm.

Sounds like you and your DH deserved a restful evening, BG!

BabyGiraffes · 15/03/2012 22:06

dd2 is right as rain again Smile. Second miraculous antibiotic treatment I've seen (first was myself with pneumonia where two lots of antibiotics did nothing and the third felt like pipe cleaner in my lungs!!)

Hmm I do think I may have enjoyed dinner and wine too much [hic] and will pay for it tomorrow.... Wink Ah well.

Feel I have quite a dilemma on my hands. Had to apply for a new passport, so told my mum we won't visit at Easter because was told the new passport (coming from abroad, via London Embassy) would take 6-8 weeks ie the end of dd1's Easter holiday. Obviously they got it done quickly and I got it back today.... Now wondering whether to take the girls to see my parents at Easter after all and also take advantage of my sister being there with her children (my parents won't expect us but would love to see them) but can't be arsed with the hassle of travel. Confused. Or keep a white lie going, passport not back, for an easy life... I'm very aware that my parents are quite old and there may be little time for them to spend with their grandchildren (but then I could think that for the next 20 years - the way my dad is going he'll easily be a 100!).Confused

PenguinArmy · 15/03/2012 22:07

BG I'm sure somewhere you know what you would rather do. Ignore all the shoulds etc and just go with what you feel.

SurvivalOfTheUnfittest · 15/03/2012 22:31

Hi folks, especially Abs and Rainbow! Lovely to hear from you both.

BG Glad to hear that DD2 is improving. She sounded really poorly form your description. It's always so hard to know when to take them and when to leave it a bit longer isn't it?

IC Glad to hear the amnio went okay and will be thinking of you tomorrow and waiting to hear the results.

PA my inlaws are finally realising that they risk a lot (i.e. not seeing the GC) by being PITA with us and are getting much better at behaving themselves.

Mous Hope you are okay. Sending hugs.

DS2 has had 2 hours of big boy pants today, took himself to the potty unprompted for poo and wee, and again tonight during nappy off time before bed, so me thinks I should get off my arse, get him trained and stop paying ridiculous money for nappies!! (He also likes to say, "Wow! Mummy I did monster poo/dinosaur poo - rrooaaaarrr!!")

We heard last week that he will be starting nursery after Easter (with trial sessions during my Easter break) after all. This has rather focussed me on getting him at least partially trained as they are not terribly proactive about it there. I'm also intending to take the dummy away from daytime nap tomorrow as I'd rather he went without one. We (DH) forgot to send one to the child minder one day this week and apparently he slept fine without it so let's hope... Will keep it at night at the moment as it's a godsend when he's coughing, like he is again at the moment.

Have had a really fab day with both boys today - DS1 has eaten well (though DS2 has eaten virtually nothing- penultimate tooth pain I think) and they have played nicely too. I went to the village playgroup for the first time since September and they actually allowed me to complete a conversation with a mum - sooo much easier and some light at the end of the tunnel (Also totally agree with developmental leap after illness).

DS2 has christened sicky hiccoughs (of which he clearly has great experienceHmm) 'sickups'! I think this is brilliant! Might patent the term..

Off to bed now after a late night last night. We have booked a holiday this week, decided to spend DH's bonus on a massive wooden climbing frame for the garden and seen a friend who has a refluxy toddler to give her some support. Busy but good. What are you all up to for mother's day?

BabyGiraffes · 15/03/2012 22:37

PA Yep, you are right of course. Flight booked...

BabyGiraffes · 16/03/2012 10:57

dd2 is in dd1's room and all I hear is the occasionally evil giggle... I think I should investigate! Hmm

InmaculadaConcepcion · 16/03/2012 16:01

Good news - I just got the initial amnio result and all is normal.
I think I was about to pass out from the stress of waiting for that phone call..!
There's still a tiny chance of something coming up in the full rundown, but I still feel like a weight's been lifted off my shoulders. Smile

BabyGiraffes · 16/03/2012 16:18

IC Wonderful news! Smile

Bearcrumble · 16/03/2012 16:43

Phew! They kept your waiting... So pleased for you all. x

StoneBaby · 16/03/2012 16:53

IC what a great news. x

PenguinArmy · 16/03/2012 19:13

yay

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 16/03/2012 19:23

Good news IC!

PenguinArmy · 16/03/2012 20:01

erm did you get the sex?

StoneBaby · 16/03/2012 20:53

Oh yea... What's rhe flavour?

BBB what's your present? A DC3? Grin

PenguinArmy · 16/03/2012 21:04

DS spent this evening laughing at DD as she ran around. She smiles when he smiles at her and he has to be given a kiss and cuddle goodnight. He clearly loves her and lights up when she comes to him, she giggles when he 'eats' her, so she purposefully gives him her hands to eat.

AbsB · 16/03/2012 21:16

Oh that's great news IC, what a relief!
Good on you BG for booking the flights. It struck me that you never know how much time you have left with your parents, I really wish I'd spent more time with my dad. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but enjoy them while they are here!
Survival I like 'sickups', that's truly brilliant!
Saw a cranial osteopath today who said that my uterus has gone South since having a ventouse delivery, which may be the reason we're not getting pg. He also suspects that DD doesn't sleep and was quite colicky from being violently suctioned out of me and having the umbilical cord wrapped around her neck when she was born. He is going to treat her too. It was amazing, I felt my uterus and my fallopian tubes move up and connect. I also managed to concentrate really hard and not fart on his hand! Grin

PenguinArmy · 16/03/2012 21:31

abs there are fair few that don't sleep through consistently on here. DD had a two month phase where she did but I'd say now it happens about once a week. survivals two are still irregular sleepers as well.
