Oh dear BG. My DDs have both gone through phases of hating medicine, to the point that DD1 has pretty much only taken tablets since the age of two. The doctors used to look at me slightly awry when I asked for them instead of liquid, but she never had any problems taking them. So if your DD2 insists that she won't take them, maybe you could go back to the GP and ask for tablets or capsules instead? In the meantime, you could try hiding it in yogurt? Or resort to bribery?

mous I had amazing espresso ice cream in Brighton on Sunday. It came on a waffle. With chocolate sauce. And cream. So you could move back to Blighty :o

Thanks BBB!

Sorry to hear about poor old DD2 BG, but at least it can now be dealt with (even though that's proving to be a bit of a battle....). Here's hoping she brightens up soon.

Mous is it a French thing, loving coffee flavour ice-cream? I only ask because that's always the one my mum's little supermarket runs out of first (she's in SW France)? I must admit, I'm quite partial to it myself.

BBB that waffle sounds amazing!

I had the amnio this morning. It all went smoothly, so now it's just a question of keeping fingers crossed for normal results and no problems. They did a detailed scan and that all looked good, so that's encouraging.

BigBadBear · 13/03/2012 16:02

IC well done. When are the results? And did the detailed scan reveal the flavour?!

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 13/03/2012 16:19

Good news on the scan. FX IC, rest and try not to fret too much (easier said). I had quick results after 5 days will it be faster for you? (I think 2 days are enough, it depends on how busy the lab is, and week-ends...)

BabyGiraffes · 13/03/2012 16:19

IC Glad it's all done and went well! Let your two pamper you this evening - it is quite a stressful thing to undergo so you deserve some tlc

BabyGiraffes · 13/03/2012 16:23

Coffee flavoured ice cream My mum loves it though, along with coffee cake, coffee chocolate etc. Maybe it's a continental thing. I'd rather have the real thing than anything coffee flavoured, although I did once have quite a nice espresso chocolate. Maybe it's because I drink coffee black, so anything sweet tasting of coffee seems wrong to me.

BabyGiraffes · 13/03/2012 16:29

dd2 is giving a loud rendition of 'ba ba black sheep' so I think she may be feeling better Smile. I did mix in some calpol when giving her the antibiotic and I think she has decided that taking the medicine the doctor gave her is a good idea. Gave her the second dose just now and she made no fuss. Now preparing myself to argue with my mum again about spacing out antibiotics.... (she will set her alarm and get up in the night! -Glad you clarified it in one of your posts BBB that it's okay to spread it over daytime hours)

StoneBaby · 13/03/2012 16:32

IC glad it went okay but do put your feet up and rest.

BG your poor DD2 and shame that she's not taking medicine easily at the present.

I'm not a fan of anything coffee flavoured, except coffee itself.

Well, DS has now decided that he will have a melt down every morning when I drop him off to nursery: screaming, crying, tantruming, glueing himslef onto me. According to the carers it noly last a couple of minutes and then he's back to normal but it is enoughto get the motherly guilt out and upset my day. The worse thing is that he's been at nursery for nearly 2 years (it will be in June) and it's the 1st time he reacts like that? Hmm

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/03/2012 17:22

Initial results taking in the main chromosomal abnormalities should be with me on Friday. The full run-down would then follow 10-14 days later. That will also give us the flavour. We didn't get a proper look at the genitalia today BBB and the consultant didn't comment on that area at all - I thought for a moment I caught sight of a little snail shape for a moment (which would indicate a penis) but it was so kaleidoscopic, it was very hard to tell....

InmaculadaConcepcion · 13/03/2012 19:03

Dare I hope that post-tummy bug, DD's eating is actually improving? She seems to be a bit braver and little less fussy about certain things. Only incrementally, but I've been observing definite improvements over the last few days.

A friend of mine who has three DC said she often notices a slight jump in development after a child's had a period of illness. I wonder if any of the more experienced mums on the thread have noticed anything like this?

PenguinArmy · 13/03/2012 19:38
BabyGiraffes · 13/03/2012 20:41

IC My mum has always said children often have a real growth spurt both mentally and physically after being ill. Haven't noticed it so much yet with my two but take my mum's word for it (her 'sample' was bigger...)

Bearcrumble · 13/03/2012 22:02

IC Glad the amnio is over and done and you're all ok. Good news that the scan looked good - and keeping everything crossed that the results will be normal. I'm sure they will be. Horrible few days for you while you wait though.

So sorry to hear how many of you and your DCs have been ill. It really is the time of year for it.

PA Good news on the inlaw visit.

My news - I am now 35w 4d, have had a couple of occasions recently of feeling extremely 'tight' around the bump for a few hours - last night was really bad, thought I had trapped wind and it was genuinely painful. My upper legs and undercarriage feel like they've been kicked when I get up out of bed or the sofa, the baby keeps frightening me by not moving for a couple of hours - but then going mental. I have no energy to speak of but at least touch wood DS is sleeping pretty well at night once he goes off. Last night took a while but he slept til gone 8am and I only woke once for a wee.

I am very happy that a friend who had a mc a few months ago has had a positive. I really want it all to go well for her.

My mum has been brilliant and a real help. I take back any mean things I ever said about her. She's now gone to Cornwall for a week to see a friend so I am a bit more on my own but she had DS yesterday and Sunday for most of the day and I got to laze about. DH is also helping a lot, he did dinner today and we had lunch out so I did no cooking at all.

The estate agents got refused planning permission to build a house next to mine. No doubt they'll appeal or submit revised plans - we'll see what happens next.

FIL got through his hip operation with no problems and is back home.

One of DH's friends has been made the new editor of Q magazine and given him a regular column so that's a bit more work.

DS is using the potty more and more but keeps jumping up and saying excitedly that he's done a poo when he's only done a tiny bit but if I don't empty it he grabs the potty and waves it around so I have to empty about 4 or 5 minipoos rather than waiting for it all to finish. Hoping his poos get a bit more solid very soon.

And on that note...

Bearcrumble · 13/03/2012 22:03

Oh and well done on the job, Mr IC.

PenguinArmy · 13/03/2012 22:47

BC good news about DH and this stage of pregnancy is so that having a baby is easier than being pregnant. I got a bit freaked out at the ways it was different to DD but in a way it's all the same as well.

We're almost on the mend here, DS was more back to normal last night. I think DD is still teething. She says her mouth hurts (although worry about loaded questions from DH) but she does cry out in pain when eating. Means I was lazy mum today, laptop telly while I dealt with DS so she was quiet (not used it in ages and this weekend and past few days has been loads, she had an hour cumulative today), three biscuits and some juice.

She is firmly a 3.5, now she was walking normally the size 4 shoes are far too big but handy when she wears her thick socks. I have found out the smaller baby is suppose to be in the back of the phil and teds but DD is in the weight limit and I'm scared of a screaming buggy baby to try it. Will try once the weather is warm enough to take foot muff off that seat, plus I am trying to get DD to walk more.

I had a click moment after typing about ILs and their disapproval at the Santa outfit. I realised that they comment about her outfit every time they see her. They also make weird comments about her shoes and walking. I guess I took it as an attack for my parenting, a kinda of 'I can't even get the basics like dressing her right'. Now I see they have a fixed idea of a normal family and we don't meet that but I know me and DH are a couple to be proud of. The things we don't do traditionally are good things. Guess it is also that old chestnut that when you do things differently people think it an judgement on how they do/did stuff. Me and DH accidentally had a few conversations that came round to them which had the effect of me seeing I can't use him as a sound board as it upsets him a bit too much.

DD went to bed with a blue mouth and tongue Blush but not as bad as honeydragon's DD thankfully.

IC fingers crossed about the next few days

BG glad that DD is taking some medication again

PenguinArmy · 13/03/2012 22:48

Oh shit, did anyone say happy b'day to abs DD? Know she isn't around but sure we still think of her and vice versa.

rainbowweaver · 13/03/2012 23:13

Belated birthday wishes to BBB, BC, Survival and PA's LOs. Sorry I've not been able to come on for awhile as was preparing for trip back to Malaysia for the past few weeks. ( why weeks to prepare? There was a mountain of laundry that kpt on building up despite my best efforts for one. Literally felt like Sisyphus) Was rather dreading the long nearly 24 hour trip, door-to-door but it all went suite well. DD slept for 6 hours on the first 12 hour flight and we had lots of activities to keep her occupied the rest of the time with take off, landing, stickers etc.

But now that we made it DD having a great time with my parents. What a difference having more than 2 adults around makes. I now understand the saying, it takes a village to raise a child. Goes to put everything we're doing in perspective - normally in older times, there would have been more people around to help. No wonder it's hard! Going to have a big 2nd cousin meet up later tonight, so quite looking forward to that. All my cousins' kids from my mum's side. In the meantime have now had a facial, and will get my hair cut this morning. bliss! Grin

DD grabbed some raw fish while we were having lunch at yo sushi at the airport, and has been suffering from a mild unsettled tummy for the past 2 days, luckily now fine. It did make the flight a little more interesting.

Congrats on the job IC!

< sending get well vibes to all the poorlies especially BG's DDs and BG. shares out some healthy very tasty chocolate walnut oat cookies my mum made.... And moseys off to get some pig intestine and seaweed soup noodles breakfast.>

rainbowweaver · 13/03/2012 23:14

And ABS! Thanks PA. :)

BabyGiraffes · 14/03/2012 13:35

Waves at rainbowSmile Glad you are enjoying your trip!

Well, dd2 is like a different child. She went from howling wreck yesterday morning to being full of beans yesterday evening. Definitely a case where antibiotics were clearly indicated and worked like the miracle drug they used to be Smile. I am glad to have my cheeky monster back.

StoneBaby · 14/03/2012 21:50

BG great news on the AB

Waves to rainbow glad to hear the trip went well and that you and your DD are enjoying the family time

My mum is over this week so I can't check MN as much as usual. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow

AbsB · 15/03/2012 14:37

Hello! I have found you all. Thank you PA for thinking of me. I have read the first and last page on this thread only. Congratulations BC and IC on being pregnant! When are you due? Is anyone else on the thread pg? Please can someone update me on who has had babies!
My DD had her two year developmental check up yesterday during her nap time, the HV was lovely and DD was so polite to her "Come in, sit down, come to my room and play with my stable, etc." It was all going so well until she started shouting "Booby" at her. I pretended she'd just learned it at preschool (lie)... she is completely obsessed with boobs and poos and wees. Does anyone else's DC do this? She is 95% potty trained and likes to give her poos names Hmm like "it's the three little bears" or "that ones got a baby" or "look mummy, it's a gigantic dinosaur poo!". Obsessed! She had an accident in Lloyds bank the other day (I'm waiting for them to send me a letter as I've probably been caught on CCTV rushing out with a weeing child!). We'd just been to Pizza Express for her birthday lunch and we'd been to the loo but she had rather a lot to drink there and she just couldn't help it. Anyway, I rushed back to Pizza Express and they let me change her in their loo which was very nice of them.
Anyway, must go and wake her up from her nap but just wanted to say hello to you all! Smile

BabyGiraffes · 15/03/2012 14:42

Waving at Abs Smile. Lovely to hear from you! Hugely impressed by your dd being potty trained! Envy My dd2 has no idea... Wink

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 15/03/2012 17:03

Welcome back absB! Impressed with your DD's speech and potty training! DD2 still can't speak, really, so no comment but she does like to put her hand in pee and smearing it on the floor/walls or just play with it

LeMousquetaireAnonyme · 15/03/2012 17:03

Forgot to say congratulation mr IC if you are lurking!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 15/03/2012 19:13

Abs how lovely to hear from you! I'm most impressed by the potty training! My DD isn't even close to being ready yet. Arf at the "booby" shouting!
Yes, I'm 16 and a half weeks pg, due Aug 26th, all being well. I'm currently awaiting the results of the amniocentesis I had on Tuesday (should get the interim results tomorrow) because of a high Down's risk (again - I had a similar situation with DD and she turned out fine, so I'm hoping this will be the case again).

Rainbow wow, that's some trip! How wonderful.

BG great to hear about the fast recovery of your DD2. The bouncebackability of toddlers is amazing sometimes, isn't it?!

Mous you okay?

PA maybe your ILs have that obsession thing going on over "feminine" appearance? Are they concerned with keeping up appearances in general? That's a classic thing, especially if they have fairly "traditional" views in how things should be. And please rant on here about them whenever you like, especially if your DH isn't happy providing you with an outlet.

SB family fun to you!

Bc ooh, your DH has a regular column in Q?! I might go and treat myself to one for the first time in yonks just to read it!

Thanks for the congrats for DH! I can hear him and DD laughing and playing together upstairs. DD is being super-cute and full of fun since she got over her tummy bug. A joy to be with at the moment. She charmed the midwife and the nurse today when we went into the clinic so I could get my 'flu jab and have a quick doppler check post-amnio (heart going like the clappers, so all seems fine there).
