Thought I'd steal the honours of setting up a new thread

nervousmum · 27/02/2006 10:49

Oh, and it's exactly a year ago today that i found out i was pregnant!Smile

RedTartanLass · 27/02/2006 11:40

My poor wee dd has her 2 top teeth coming through as well...poor wee soul, she is suffering this time.

So that's a total of 4 teeth,Sad she's too wee.......

Elf1981 · 27/02/2006 11:59

Aw bless RTL. Evie is showing all the signs of teething, just no teeth!

Eurgh, changed my mind about weaning after seeing the state of Evie's nappy! Good lord. No wonder she looked so chuffed with herself...

Aw RTL the wee lamb. Johnny is having another bout of red cheeks and dribbling and aslo nappy rash so I'm assuming it's the teething too.

Bonnie - DH and I wanted to get one of those seats (not sure if it was a Britax one) that was rear facing then forward facing. The blooming thing wouldn't fit in the car. We have a Golf, so not as if it is tiny. It fitted in the front, but completely obscured the view in the wing mirror so we had to scrap that idea all together.

Nervousmum - I had that exactly a year ago day last week. It's weird isn't it. I just wondered to myself what all the fuss had been about on finding out I was pg!! It's also over a year since I had any alcohol.

I was at baby massage today. The hv gave me a script for some stuff for johnny's skin. He has put on 4 grams this week. Thats virtually no weight gain over the past four weeks and he's dropped right down to the 9th percentile. She said to give it another week. An other week and then what??? She didn't say!

Elf1981 · 27/02/2006 13:30

MB, your HV may be wanting to push you towards weaning or switching to formula milk. They mentioned going on formula for Evie when she didn't gain as much weight as they wanted, she'd gained loads by the next visit which was good as I would have been in for a row with the HV!

RedTartanLass · 27/02/2006 13:38

maw what did Jonny weigh when he was born, what is he now and how often do you get him weighed?

Sorry loads of questions Blush

mawbroon · 27/02/2006 14:35

RTL - he weighed 7lbs 10oz and now he is 13lbs 1oz. I get him weighed most weeks. I was going to stop as going to the clinic was a PITA, but I am going to baby massage classes which are on just now and they weigh them there seeing they are already in the buff.

Elf - I said to the HV that I didn't want to rush into weaning and she agreed with me entirely and didn't reckon that it was much of a problem that he hadn't gained as he is still feeding well and his nappies are fine etc etc. She seems to be very supportive of bf and as there are so few of us round here doing it.

One of the Mums at the class today asked me if I'd given Johnny chocolate yet Shock and said she'd given her 12 week old baby some Sad

nervousmum · 27/02/2006 15:11

Well, my little porker weighed in at 17Ibs 7oz!ShockHe's 22 weeks old today.

I asked about the poo business, and apparantly it's totally normal. As Joey is still predominantly breastfed, which gets fully digested, it's only what we're giving him puree wise that will work itself out as poo, which will take a few days to build up to a level at which his bowels recognise to expel, apparantly! Phew, don't feel like quite such a crap (scuse the punGrin) mum any more.

MB - are baby massage classes any good? Joey is due to start them on Wednesday, and not really sure what to expect. And do i need any special oil? I've got plain old baby oil, as Joey has got eczema. Thanks, NM x

ButtonMoon · 27/02/2006 20:30

LOL at the poo probs!! Ds goes every couple of days. DD used to go 10 days Shock without poos, very normal (apparently) in bf babes!! She used to get her money's worth from the nappy she filled !!Grin DS was 18lb 1oz a few weeks ago but I'm not taking him to be weighed again now til his last injections in around 3 weeks as last time I went he'd started moving down the chart and the HV made a few comments. Thing is he is still going 3-4 hrs between feeds in the day, still waking once in the night and feeds but prob isn't that bothered really (more comfort I think) and is still his happy contented self. So I intend to leave the weaning for a while and could do without the HV nagging, I'm just waiting for my family to start........"I gave my DD riceat 2 weeks and it didn't do them any harm" "Ooo. look at him drooling, give him some custard" and "he will sleep thru the night if you give him some real food" Hmmmm...whatever!!!

ponto · 27/02/2006 20:55

Enjoying the poo stories! In contrast to all these constipated babies, Alice poos all the time! Towards the end of each feed she stops sucking, gives an almighty heave and then smiles as the distinctive gurgling sound echoes around the room, causing everyone present to look up in amazement.

She has at least 4 dirty nappies a day, once I washed a bucket of 16 nappies (about 2-3 days' worth) and there was only one that wasn't dirty! No idea what's causing it, dd1 only used to go every other day which was just fine.

I'm so fed up with dirty nappies, and I can't use disposables because they just do not contain the poo - it leaked all up her back and onto her arms last week!

Sorry if TMI, just needed to whinge a bit. In every other way she is a fantastic baby and I'm just hoping that when she starts solids (fully bf at the mo) things will settle down.

mawbroon · 27/02/2006 21:39

Ponto - I was finding the same with the disposables. What nappies do you use? I am just using old fashioned terries with a booster pad thinggy in it along with a wrap. The kite fold works great for us. I do use disposables sometimes though but I calculated the other day that it is something like 1.2 disposables a day. I use the biodegradable ones and they are a bit pricy so I don't take the decision to shove a disposable on him lightly. Wink

NM - Johnny certainly seems to enjoy the baby massage classes. I suppose it depends a lot on the person who is running it too. We were given little bottles of oil but all that was in it was a mixture of organic olive oil and sunflower oil. He gets very chilled out and usually nods off in the sling on the 10 minute walk home. Sometimes when he is in distress before doing a poo I can use some of the massage strokes on his wee tummy to help ease the discomfort. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

ponto · 27/02/2006 22:09

Mawbroon - I'm using Motherease one size nappies that I used for dd1, they lasted her from age 3 months till she was potty trained at 2.4 years, so I've certainly had my money's worth out of them. Smile I only use disposables now if I'm on holiday, and I tried paying more for the biodegradeable ones but they still seem to leak so I'm back to Tesco's own now.

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 08:06

Here in Swansea it is snowing very heavily and Thomas won't take his eyes off the snow!!! Grin made it easy to feed though as he just had his mouth open!!! lol Wink
rtl 2 teeth...bless

Elf1981 · 28/02/2006 08:07

mawbroon - your health visitor seems nicer than mine! There are about five where I go, its quite random who you see. Two of them are very pushy about early weaning / switching to formula (even before four months) if the baby doesn't "follow their line". The others are a bit more laid back, which is nice.

Evie has started sleeping through the night again (touch wood) but I tend to give her a dream feed around nine or ten. I'm hoping to drop that shortly, see if it works. DH wants to move her to her cot in her room at the end of the week, I'm not too keen but I think I am going to have to bend on this. He wants to do it before I go back to work, his view is that we should do one thing at a time. He wants to get her settled in her cot before I go back to work and she goes to the childminder. Part of me agrees but the other part is wondering if she is going to be clingy at night time after I've left her all day, so will she scream to come in with us at night after I've left her in the day? Argh, decisions!!

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 09:19

elf we moved Thomas into his own room at 18weeks (now 22weeks) and I found this really hard for the first couple of nights kept going to check on him but he settles down fine. We did this because we were moving into a new house and didn't really have room in our bedroom for his proper cot only the travel cot. If I were you then I'd give it a go and see how Evie settles now before you go back to work but only you know your lo

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 09:20

elf if that sounded crap please ignore me and blame the lack of sleep!! Blush

Elf1981 · 28/02/2006 09:39

No, it made perfect sense, thanks!

mawbroon · 28/02/2006 10:58

Gosh, cruel Mummy here. I put Johnny in his big cot in his own room at 4 weeks old. The room is right next to ours and we keep both doors open. I figured that if he went in it when he was teeny then it wasn't going to be an upset for him later on.

Oh cruel mother Blush

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 11:38

mawbroon cruel mummy Wink my sister thought we were batty having Thomas in our room til 18 weeks she had her dd is own room at about 4weeks too
mummygow how is your friend doing?

JustBonnie · 28/02/2006 12:25

I'd love to get ruby out of our room as we disturb her when we go to bed no matter how quiet we try to be. Only problem is she's sharing with her sister and until I know she'll sleep through the night I can't really risk it. I think it will be lovely for them to share a room though and hopefully make them close. They already play together and ruby saves her biggest smiles for her sister.

When we had just dd1 she was in her own room very early, definately by four months and I found she slept much better so I'd go for it. I used to take the monitor to bed with me on full blast at first even though she was just in the next room with doors open!

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 15:35

JUSTBONNIE what is the age gap between them? My neice just loves Thomas to bits, whenever I'm on the phone with my sister you can hear her in the background asking to speak to Thomas...bless

JustBonnie · 28/02/2006 16:30

dd1 is 2yrs 9 mths so there's nearly a 2 and a half year age gap. She's much more interested in Ruby now she's doing more than she was at first and I'm sure it will just get better and better as ruby starts to crawl/walk. Only thing is I'm sure I've also got lots of arguements to come as they get older Smile

YOKEFLEET · 28/02/2006 17:07

jb does she try to help?? as soon as my neice see's Thomas she says that he has poo'd. 30 seconds later she has gone and got his change bag, nappies, mat and wipes are all laid out on the floor ready! Grin

mawbroon · 28/02/2006 19:17

Oh no. I messed up Johnny's routine by dragging him out of bed at 5am to take DH to the airport for some silly work thing down south. He was all out of sorts for the whole day and now instead of going to sleep like a good little boy he is screaming the house down.

That's the last time I do that. Shock

Piggiesmum · 01/03/2006 08:14

Munnygow, sorry to hear about your friend. Thats awful :(

I am really dreading moving ds into his own room. I'm sure he'll be fine about it but I will miss him so much :(

MB I've just had o do similar this morning to take dh to station. It's going to be an interesting day :(
