Hi mopsy: pressed post early as DS promptly fell off boob... He's uounger than MM so I get one 4 hour stretch on a good night ( most of the time now) then a variable amount of breaks between now and morning. We get evening grumps at the moment from 5-10 ish, its not bad enoigh to be colic, he just gets fussy abd wants holding/feeding constantly. Thank heaven for slings and DHs (to do bedtime sometimes with DDs).

LittleMissFlustered · 13/02/2012 03:34

This nightshift feels like it has been going on for weeks.

LittleMissFlustered · 13/02/2012 03:36

Get gaps of between thirty seconds and a couple of hours at the minute. I just keep reminding myself that things do get better:)

hawthers · 13/02/2012 04:07

Hello am nightshifting over here.

Once again the power of a bunch of random strangers has shown it's force. All of your kind words and rationalisation (that is not an actual word surely) have headed off a major meltdown for me. Still very disappointed about the numbers but mostly frustrated as they don't seem to reflect reality. F has had a great day and been the most chilled that i've seen him. He has also had appreciable naps. We had one point where both boys were fast asleep in their beds napping away so DH and I snuck off and dtd Grin

I just have to keep repeating to myself that things will pick up soon.

DS1 has come down, with a rotten cold and conjunctivitis si just waiting for that to hit the rest of us....

LittleMissFlustered · 13/02/2012 04:14

Rationalisation is a word, my iPhone knows it:o

hawthers · 13/02/2012 04:16

Ah just my shitty htc that is a bit dense then Wink

Coolhand · 13/02/2012 04:16

Hi LMF - the unpredictability is difficult. Hope you get a bit more of a stretch now.

I've just finished night feed as haven't managed mechanics of typing and feeding yet. Luke goes down at 7 like a dream - I can put him down awake and he just settles himself. He then goes to 11 when I wake him for feed. He was making it to 4 for a while but that has slipped back to 3ish. He is most unsettled this last stretch and can often waken after an hour so fingers crossed!

He's been v unsettled the last few days with lots of tears and fist permanently in mouth - chewing anything and everything and blowing lots of bubbles. I thought it was too early to be teething so interested to see your comments Northern. I was anxious about tonight as he was so unhappy during the day but he's been a star.

Right I'm off to try and catch a bit more sleep.

Kri5ty · 13/02/2012 04:37

Night/day shifting!

Not caught up with posts, will do tomorrow/today/in a few hours!

These day/night cues are horrible! When I pick him up for his night feed, as soon as he sees me he is full of smiles, laughing, talking. Obviously all I want to do is respond, but can't as trying to teach him its night still :( he doesn't do it in the day!

Anyway he now has a new nickname, due to the bruises on my legs and stomach from feeding, Mr wriggle bum! He loves to kick away whilst feeding, and he is so strong It's nearly impossible to hold him!

OiMissus · 13/02/2012 05:03

GrinDH calls LO wrigglebum all the time.
LO slept all evening from 5, and only woke for feeds. Tonight he's pretty snotty. He was wide awake and smiley at his last feed just now, but, touch wood, seems to be settling back down.
Right, mopsy, i'll join you, no alcohol 'til weekend. It's beginning to become a daily habit again. No. I shall buy no more.
Crossed fingers for a few more hours.

Figgygal · 13/02/2012 05:58

Morning all

Checking in LO went from 8-10 last night asleep on me then woke him for last feed and nappy change and he went straight back to sleep until 5.30. he's now inhaled a feed and gone back to sleep yay!!

Aims for this week:

Visit work chum today and her 6 week old
Speak to HV about hungry baby (he's now ravenous after 2.5 hours and cries until fed despite taking 7oz a feed which doesn't feel right)
Contact local music with mummy teacher about starting sessions
8 wk post natal check
Recommencing "relations" with DH as still haven't after almost 8 wks Confused

mopsytop · 13/02/2012 07:09

Me too Oi re: alcohol and entirely unnecessary especially given that I just went nine months with at most one beer a week!!

YBR · 13/02/2012 07:25

I have a wrigglybum too. It can be so painful hard work to BF a wriggly girl!

LO was a bit annoying last night, grizzled and cried until gone 10, but redeemed herself sleeping from after 11pm feed until 6am. Unfortunately DH didn't get the benefit as he was expecting her to want a feed at 3am and was half-awake since then.

aims this week:
Sign our new wills today
Chase up the referral for BabyYBR's hernia
Get the car sorted[1]
Do more baby massage

[1] someone reversed into my (parked) car, and came and found me to own up [shocked]. They want to pay for the repair and keep the insurance out of it. my quote says it'll take 3 days so I'd rather use the insurance because I'd get a courtesy car. I need to get another quote and open negotiations!

AnAirOfHope · 13/02/2012 08:05

I'm ill

plan for today:
ley on sofa watching fireman sam and taking painkillers.
Call my mum to tell her i'm ill and get TLC Blush
Look at the where's wally book i got air
make lunch
Tidy livingroom
put dished in dishwasher
feed Hope

Kri5ty · 13/02/2012 08:53

I still haven't drank alcohol! I'm worried I'll get tipsy and not be able to look after Mr wrigglebum lol

So after this mornings post. My alarm went off at 7, woke him up and he was smiling! Had his feed and we have been playing on his jungle gym. He's been up nearly 2 hours, so think I'll put him in bed soon or he will be grizzly!

Aims for week

1)try and get out of the house everyday
2) buy some developmental toys, so more advice is welcome!
3)try and cook some food to freeze
4)ring docs as I keep forgetting

Kri5ty · 13/02/2012 08:57

Ps welcome back coolhand :)
Saul goes to bed pretty easily too, usually around 7, if he is half asleep he will go straight away, if he is very alert it'll take about half an hour, with maybe 2 visits to him when he crys. We put his dummy in, then he will spit it out just before he falls asleep!

EasilyBored · 13/02/2012 09:22

Bad night here, he faffed around feeding from 7 to 11, I then expressed a few ounces, gave him that and he slept till 2, fed again, slept for 40 minutes and he's been awake and hungry ever since. Husband has taken the day off as we're both exhausted and a bit on edge. Going to have a shower and head to baby group for some tea and sympathy soon.

I feel awful but I feel like I want to give up breastfeeding soon - I know its working for him (he's putting on weight) but I hate it. I hate having him hanging off my boobs all night, and he thrashes around and claws at me while he does it. It feels like whenever he's awake he's hungry. Expressing is going well so we're going to start doing bottles at night and ill keep bfing during the day.

My plans for the week
Tidy up Squeaker's room and buy some cot bedding.
Tidy the house before pils visit on Wednesday.
Do exercise dvd once or twice to try and firm up the jelly belly.
Avoid reaching the end of my tether and selling my baby on eBay.

luckysevens · 13/02/2012 09:27

Morning.

I call Eva grizzlebum. She goes to bed fine at 7.30 and is normally asleep within 5 minutes. She wakes for a feed between 11-12 then usually settles again until 4, but she doesnt want a feed, I normally bring her downstairs and she sleeps on me until 7. It's a habit I want to get out of but I don't know how, nothing settles her except being picked up.

Now need to put the slow cooker on for beef stew tonight then out to a friends house for the day so the boys can play while we eat biscuits catch up.

jigglebum · 13/02/2012 09:58

Morning all. Welcome back coolhand

Easilybored I could have written your post about breastfeeding I hate it too and only do it out of sense of guilt/obligation. I am not sure how much longer I will last. It seems when she is awake she wants to feed and cant get her down in the evening as she wants to feed and grizzle (she is a bit colicky) and then dh cant always get her to take the evening bottle so then she wakes again too soon for my liking! Also feel sorry for ds as always has to wait whilst I feed which isnt helping his behaviour. If I get to 3 months+ I will be happy.

Anyone else giving vit D drops? Apparently new NHS advice is to give vit d to under 5s and breastfeeding mums. I give ds chewable vitamin with vit D already (when I remember) and was just thinking about getting drops for freya being a winter baby when a couple of gp friends mentioned it so have bought some abidec for freya. Dreadful colour though which stains if she spits it out.

Aims for week -
Survive half term without losing the plot with DS
Do some nice trips out with ds and freya (weather pants today though)
Visit parents
Seeing some uni friends with their DCs on thurs.

Try to keep on top of housework

Mmmmcheese · 13/02/2012 10:03

DD wakes up much more in the night than your LOs and I only put her down at 9/10pm. Last night she went down at 11, woke for feeds at 1.30 and 5. Then I normally have to get up at 7 with DS but DH got up with him this mornig and took him to childminders so I'm taking advantage and still in bed now!

DD woke at 8 farting loads so I turned her on her tummy as it helps to get her wind out withouty her screaming as much as usual. She fell straight back to sleep on her tummy and is still asleep now! I've been paranoid about her breathing but have a breathing monitor and her head is right by my head in the cot next to me. I'm sure she would sleep eally well at night if allowed to sleep on her tummy but I'm too scared of SIDs :(

mopsytop · 13/02/2012 10:40

luckysevens I call mine grizzlebum too! Sometimes i call her little fartypants too!!! Horrible windy weather here but must force myself out for walk. Sure it'll be fine once we get going.

plutocrap · 13/02/2012 11:36

Hello, everyone. I've fallen off the track again, thanks to cluster feeding in the day. That has meant longer stretches at night (yippee!) but I'm just really zstruggling with this 1handed business. Those of you who use smartphones, how is your phone keyboard? I am torn between getting a proper qwerty keyboard (and then not being able to type one-handed/thumbed) and dreading having to "text" my posts. I also can't stand predictive text; never got it for normal mobiles, either!

BTW, DD was 2 months old yesterday! Happy mensiversary!

KateM77 · 13/02/2012 12:13

Worst. Weekend. Ever.

DD was ill - a combination of a cold, a sickness bug from nursery and teething with eye teeth
Visitors from hell - SIL, her VERY LOUD 8yo and 6yo sons, and she brought FIL with her for good measure. I thought snow and poorly DD would put them off, but no.
Noise and chaos leaves my DC's very unsettled - up 4 times Sat night with DS and once with DD who wouldn't settle and ended up in our bed.
8yo taking a very keen interest in BFing.
Stairgate ripped off the wall.
Went out Sun afternoon, I came back early with my DC's to find the kitchen flooded. Water pouring out of the broken boiler which is due to be replaced this week.

Very glad they have now left. Going to Mum's this afternoon for sympathy, peace and quiet.

Apologies for selfish post. Will now try and catch up on the thread!

plutocrap · 13/02/2012 12:37

"Stairgate ripped off the wall." !!!! Shock

By whom?

LittleMissFlustered · 13/02/2012 12:58
