Our third thread!

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
EdwardorEricCantDecide · 30/01/2012 10:28

fuzzy I'm asking him at 20 minutes intervals and he's saying he doesn't need/doesn't want to sit on it. I have a big jar of chocolate buttons and he gets 1 for every star on his chart, he gets a star for pulling down trousers, sitting on potty, doing pee or poo or washing hands. So potential for 4 buttons at a time. U think that's ok?

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 30/01/2012 10:40

Sorry only just refreshed and seen other advice, I'm trying not to push it I'll ask if he wants to try and if he says no I'm leaving it, he is in pants all day though, I'll put a pull up on him for nap/bedtime or to travel in car or would this be confusing?

He does definitely know when he needs a pee as when he's in the bath he deliberately stands up if he needs one so he can watch Grin

I'm thinking that he'll also have constant accidents until a few days, when he does wet himself he just comes and tells me
That he's done peepee and is wet and cold so he knows what it feels like and its uncomfortable so I'm hoping he'll realise how to avoid it

Is only day 1 though and I'm getting cabin fever! Thinking of packing all potty related stuff up and heading to mums for some help company

SconesForTea · 30/01/2012 11:24

I'm dreading potty training, just dreading it. But on the other hand I am SICK of washing two lots of nappies.

bilblio · 30/01/2012 11:34

cheeky DD only goes for a wee about 3 times a day too. It infuriates me when we go on long car journeys because she refuses to go beforehand. So far we've only had to pull over twice in 18 months though, the first time we hadn't asked her. The second time was yesterday. She had been a little while before but then said she had belly ache, which usually means she needs a poo. I stopped at some services, we went to the toilet and she tried but said "Nope, nothing there. I must be hungry!" Monkey!

For those a bit further off potty training, my Mum recommends sitting kids on the potty at each nappy change (or regularly at least) from the time they can sit up. She was a child minder and most of us were dry between 18 months & 2 years without any problems. I like to say we did that, but we didn't. Things suddenly clicked with DD and she was dry at 3.2, with only 2 accidents, and dry at night 2 weeks later. Only had the odd accident at night when she's been ill.

Time for a bath here. Seth keeps sticking his fingers so far in his mouth that he makes himself sick! He got his entire fist in there earlier!

Engelsmeisje · 30/01/2012 11:40

Interesting to hear about not changing at night. I haven;t been changing at dream feed but have in the middle of the night. Will give a try not changing at all (it's only wet after all).

mama M was so hyper yesterday. he was banging his feet every change like crazy (have decided to rename him Thumper!). Also on his mat and managed to turn himself around by 180 degrees (he's building up to rolling, I can tell!).

Kept him just in nappy yesterday so we could keep slathering moisturiser on him. chest, legs and neck are really dry and he keeps rubbing his left eye so we resorted to putting socks on his hands which deters him (and also stops him sticking hands in mouth!).

Snow when I woke up this morning (when DH WOKE me up by calling from work!).

FuzzzyDuck · 30/01/2012 11:43

ed it will take a while, but the fact he knows when he is wet is a good sign! Keep at it, make a big song and dance about it all Grin. Putting a pull up on for naps is fine. Work on being dry then you may just find night time/sleeps comes not long after. It's all bladder control.

Scheherezade · 30/01/2012 12:17

Dreading potty training!

Dr has diagnosed C with reflux and we've got him on gaviscon. Is a right pain as it has to be given in a bottle, I sincerely CBA with bottles!

PenguinArmy · 30/01/2012 14:11

pebble same here with not liking bouncer or laying down. Someone is lending me a bumbo, we have a jumperoo but have a part MIA which is PITA (hoping its in my mums loft) but he likes sitting in the highchair so we put him there with same toys.

DS hasn't been changed at night for a while but goes to bed late and is up around so does 8 hours in that nappy.

He also has some cold, although not too snotty just crying and sleeping mainly. Calpol made a big difference and let him get a good stretch of sleep.

golemmings · 30/01/2012 14:33

We've just done potty training. Started 2 weeks ago. The first 4 days were dreadful with no wee anywhere other than pants even if she'd just got off the loo or the potty which was so demoralising. Then she had three days at nursery with one wee in the loo the first day, 2 the second, three the third and after that we were home and dry. She's dry at night too, not that we're dispensing with nappies yet.

With Alex I change him at the late evening feed which is between 10 and 12 because he wees so much he can't get through the night in one, even huggies 12hr jobs. He generally has another change at 5ish if DH gets up with him then. If DH sleeps through that feed he is changed again about 7 when I get up.

Oh and Sche, we do Gaviscon in a syringe. Much easier than bottles. We use the one that came in the infant neurofen pack.

BB3 · 30/01/2012 16:02

I'm also dreading potty training!

Ds is being a nightmare today - it's like he can sense I'm tired and girls are playing up so he wants in on the action too! So add wet pants into that and it may just send me over the edge! Also ds doesn't speak (bilingual, starts s&l next week) so do I need him to be able to do that before training do you think? Or will it just take a bit longer (his understanding is fine!)

Jnice I use cloth in the day and huggies in night (not newborn ones the actual toddler size 3's) as the girls are heavy wetters and we were changing 3 times a night at first (yawn) now just leave until morning unless they wake with full pants.

Teething is a bugger here. I think Edie has two coming through at once and Ayse is just getting the early signs but both are miserable as sin and the past two says have been a challenge!!! And dh is going away for 17 days on Wednesday Sad

Where's that chocolate...

MamaMaiasaura · 30/01/2012 16:15

I love that we are able to share what our dc are up to on here. Miss having a RL antenatal group and this makes up for it Smile

bilblio · 30/01/2012 16:15

Oh bb3 good luck for 17 days without dh. I think i'd just move to my parents. Although is it you who has parents next door?

We change Seth just before proper bed at 11 and that's it until he wakes about 8:30 although with feeding and school run it can be another hour some days. We're aldi nappy converts.

Engelsmeisje · 30/01/2012 16:21

I know what you mean mama. It makes me feel like I'm not on my own.
Smile

Scheherezade · 30/01/2012 16:25

Omg bb3 you make me feel so ashamed of myself. I cant believe you're bf twins,.AND expressing AND using cloth nappies. You actually are incredible.

Our sleep regime is working brilliantly still. C is a different baby. As long as.I go up after 5 mins to give him a kiss he's happy. :)

LittlePebble · 30/01/2012 16:51

Ditto BB3 - what Scheh said
Scheh tried putting him down in cot today awake but he was having none of it. Sad how long did C cry first time?
Just had to take my very ancient Persian cat that I rescued 6yrs ago to be put to sleep Sad what a horrid rainy day. BB3 can I share your chocolate?

OP posts:
BB3 · 30/01/2012 17:02

Pebble help yourself, i've got terry's chocolate orange and this new cadbury dairy milk bubbles bar (milk chocolate covering White chocolate bubbled chocolate - like wispa)! Oh no, was he/she poorly or old? Hope you're ok!

Scheh yes i do and my sister is our live in nanny so I really shouldn't complain! Although I will Grin

Mama was it you that was having problems with ds' nursery /school? I've just taken ds out of his and the whole thing has been pretty draining (cannot tell you how relieved I am he is out) and wondered how you were getting on. We are on the hunt for a new one now...Confused

Scheherezade · 30/01/2012 18:07

That's sad lp :( hope you're ok.

I think 20-30 minutes, but he was exhausted. I make naptimes a clear routine now- wait 90 mins/when he's getting grumpy and yawning, upstairs, put him down and wind up the mobile. If he's just whimper crying I won't go up, but if he sounds like he's worrying then every 5 mins, just do what feels right. The nursery nurse and HV said it could take a week or two of doing it 4x a day.to sink in. It takes a lot to do, but I was willing to try anything as was getting desperate!

BB3 · 30/01/2012 18:26

Sorry it was bilblio that asked about parents - I blame sleep deprivation! Scheh I must try and get girls into a day time routine but I can't face it.

Dh has phoned to tell me he has sickness bug (that we have all had) so I am about to enter the joys of man flu (or man bug) as his will, I am sure, be so much worse than ours. After all (and I quote) "he can't even stand" GrinHmm

Scheherezade · 30/01/2012 18:30

I guess its whatever works for you, life.was hellish before he was in this feed/play/sleep cycle.

Penelope1980 · 30/01/2012 19:32

Tally I agree about the saline - A hates it, but it works!

I have just had a bad sleep two and like fuzzy don't understand why A isn't sleeping well, he used to be so good! Hopefyully 3 nights in a row doesn't mean this is a new pattern ...

sceh I do something similar with daytime naps and find it works ... DH wants us to stop using the dummy though, I agree in principle but it works so well am reluctant to let it go!

LittlePebble · 30/01/2012 19:33

BB3 that's like chocolate porn Envy I have nothing in the house and am desperate!
She was a very old cat and became incontinent at Christmas, I'd been putting off making the decision as couldn't do it when I was so sleep deprived.
Scheh I don't know if I can do that yet, I think I'll have to wait until I man up he's a little bit older.

FuzzzyDuck · 30/01/2012 19:34

Aww lp hope your ok Sad. Pets become such a huge part of the family. I have two brothers that I rescued as kittens when they were 8 wks old. They are now coming up for 6 in July and I'd honestly be lost without them. Do you think you'll get another?
sch how's the gaviscon helping? I have it for S. got it when she was much younger as she was bringing a lot of her milk back up. Settled down for awhile but noticed last week that she was doing it again, so have been adding a sachet to a few of her bottles through the day. They really do help her!

You'll manage great bb3. You sound like super mum as it is Grin!!

S routine is def changing. Again tonight she missed her 6ish nap so last woke just before 5pm. Just had her bath so it's milk and bed, fingers crossed sleeping by 8pm. Not sure how, but she has missed a whole bottle today Hmm. Usually it's 6oz x 6 times a day, but this one now is just her 5th. She has went 3 hrs + between feeds rather than 2.5hrs. Not sure if it's gonna mean she is hungry through night? Might try giving her a few oz just when I'm heading to bed anyway. I need one night of full sleep!!

I'm the mood for chocolate and a bottle glass of wine.. Off to check for some hiding at back of the fridge Grin

Scheherezade · 30/01/2012 19:46

Fd not used it yet, need a syringe to give it to him in so I can measure out 15mls of water!

Those who bf, how do you manage alcohol? I've just had a rather large glass of wine, can't face getting the pump out :( might try hand expressing down the sink..

MamaMaiasaura · 30/01/2012 19:54

Scheh - I have had wine a couple of times and just carried on as normal as wasn't more than a glass.

BB3 - yup was ds with preschool. The inclusion officer assessed preschool. Ds settled and happy, has a IEP for some social skill learning as he very very bright but very obssessed absorbed in space (like knowing what is at centre of black holes, naming galaxies and nebula, knowing full order of solar system, including moons, asteroid belt, kuiper belt, etc). He is also been referred for speech and language as not all words clear. He's settled down quite a bit and they write I a book each day how he's been and all positive. Huge relief.

MamaMaiasaura · 30/01/2012 19:56

Is it bad that I've not got J in a routine, we just go with flow. Though I guess there is a semblance of order it isn't clear to me Grin
