Oh! Forgot to say, earlier minimopsy did a MAHOOSIVE poo explosion all over herself (just after I had posted earlier, it was so bad I got up to help my husband clean her up!) and was much more settled then so I guess that was what had been upsetting her. She was posseting at same time as pooing apparently but has seemed to do that less also in the hours since. So it was all gut related! I amv relieved as it is upsetting not knowing why they are upset and not being able to help.

YBR · 23/01/2012 07:37

Thanks northern. I guess we're doing an adequate job, although it doesn't feel like it when she screams through from bedtime story until the next feed! I think a huge part of it is that DH and I are both around for her full time since DH is unemployed atm. I don't know how I would have coped alone.
I'm sure your trips out will be OK, and once you've done a few you'll gain confidence.

This week we're hoping to:
1 sort out a will to ensure BabyYBR is looked after if we snuff it;
2 play with "real" nappies (that is reusable);
3 take BabyYBR to visit my work

hawthers · 23/01/2012 07:40

Good luck with mw today aethelfleda hope you've reserved a haddock just in case s quick slapping is needed.

Everything always seems worse in the middle of the night. Hopefully today will be better for all the boys (and therefore me!)

msbuggywinkle · 23/01/2012 08:50

Morning! My brain will not engage this morning...disadvantage of home ed, I had to help with Spanish before 8am...Bleugh...

I like the aims for the week! Here are mine.

  1. Eat healthy food.
  2. Do educational stuff with the DDs.
  3. Get to Miri's six week check on time!
  4. Keep DD1's room tidy in preparation for her new furniture being delivered on Friday.

aethel hope you get a more sensible midwife today.

hawthers as aethel said, it will get easier soon.

jigglebum · 23/01/2012 09:22

morning all. quite a good weekend here as sister and bil visited to meet freya and entertained ds well too. spent sunday pm grumpy and knackered though! freya still feeding two hourly at night.

respect to anyone thinking, let alone having sex! we are sleeping in separate rooms to survive at the mo and freya doesnt go down until late and ds up at 730 am, so not much opportunity. also not convinced all normal down there yet either!

aims for week -

  1. get ds to preschool etc vaguely on time, same aim with 6 week check tom
  2. try and spend some time doing fun things with ds and not tell him off so much!
  3. order kitchen worktops, hob, bedroom curtains etc
  4. get builders back to do snagging. ditto with electrician
  5. get some sleep!
DarcieandSkysmum · 23/01/2012 09:27

Morning Ladies.

Hawthers It will get better.

Aethel Hope you have a better midwife today.

LMF hope DS is better soon.

See I have no trouble getting out the door in the mornings and looking decent and getting Darcie to school.

Aims of the week.

Housework - mind you house is clean and tidy anyway.
Getting Darcie to swimming, rainbows, dancing & 2 birthday parties on time.
Finishing off wedding invitations
Deciding on what sweets to get for sweetie table
Buying bridesmaid dresses tomorrow
Getting to first wedding dress fitting on time.
Sorting Sky's christening
Sorting Darcies party at play zone
And finally food shopping!

KateM77 · 23/01/2012 09:36

Well after last night's post DS carried on with the feed, wind, fall asleep, put down, wake up screaming routine until 1am. Then woke again for feeds at 3.45, 6 and 7.30. Finally had a poo explosion at 8 and another feed at 9 and I'm hoping he'll be more settled today.

Off to musical minis now!

Figgygal · 23/01/2012 09:54

Is it bad I have nothing to achieve this week other than a haircut And going to clinic tomorrow to get Danny weighed? I don't mind if it is Grin. Need to take car out for a run today too that'll be the extent of my adventures today probably.

Am sat in bed with him asleep on my chest I could get up and get on with the day but he's just soo cute. I never thought I would be so besotted with him and DH is worse than me with him and he was never that bothered about having babies in the 1st place. God help me when I go back to work which is looking like June and we have to be up and dressed at a sensible hour.

I'm with YBR my DH works from home and it makes such a huge difference, he doesn't tend to do changes or anything like that but I can hand him over often so I can go to loo, or nip to local shops without the normal hassles. He also gets more time with him and we can recover from the bad nights (not that we have many yet) by sleeping in a bit more easily. Am very lucky so far!!

sevenswansaswimming · 23/01/2012 10:17

Morning.

The good news is that Eva went from 11.30 to 6.15 without wanting a feed. The bad news is that she was asleep on me from 4.

Now need to put Eva in the wrap so I can tidy up before my friend and her DS come round for lunch.

DarcieandSkysmum · 23/01/2012 10:24

Am planning next Monday to take Sky to her first baby group - not sure how that's going to go!

jigglebum · 23/01/2012 10:24

A friend of mine phoned last week to say they were coming to visit today. not heard anything since re timings etc. bit annoying. I assume they are still coming.

not managed to have breakfast yet. freya on her third breakfast since 730! ds just managed to get some !

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 23/01/2012 10:28

morning all. After the discussion on poo explosions, ds2 is now having the opposite problem. After going from two dirty nappies a day, he's at one every two days. Is that normal, or should I get it checked out? He's bf (which I thought was a bit of a natural laxative?). He's still having lots of wet nappies and seems his normal, relatively calm self. When he does have a dirty nappy, it looks like a normal, mustardy, bf poo (sorry if tmi). I've been told some baby massage actions that are supposed to help with constipation, so we'llgive those a go.

We had a lovely day for most of yesterday - went to the local pub for a macmillan coffee morning (and the world's largest slice of cake, yum!), came home and ds1 and dh played outside with ds's remote controlled cars. Had a niceafternoon, until ds1 was informed it was time to stop playing and get ready for bed, at which point he had a major (and I mean major) meltdown. Cue lots of shouting, then he got upset because his voice went all croaky. eventually he calmed down, and seemed fine this morning. wish I knew the answer for combining setting boundaries and having a happy child (disclaimer - ds1 is lovely and usually happy and a joy to be with - it's just when he isn't, boy does he let you know)

LittleMissFlustered · 23/01/2012 10:49

We've been out and about pretty much everyday since we got home from hospital as we've had no choice. School is half an hour by bus away, the kids are too young to go on their own and as I'm single I've nobody else to do it for us:/

LittleMissFlustered · 23/01/2012 10:54

Plans for this week:

Menu plan (hate hate hate menu planning ).
Get the older boy to the doctor and hopefully sorted out.
Shop:/
Go to a sling meet to test slings to see if they're all as crap as my old one.
Email the person I was ranting at over the weekend.
Ring mum.
Try to remain relatively sane.
Get the older two to school Tues-Fri >_

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 23/01/2012 10:55

ah, the magic stimulatory effects of mumsnet! poo central here, have to log off now and tidy the boy!

NorthernChinchilla · 23/01/2012 11:16

Well, I can add a tick to my first of the week's to-do list:

  1. Get out on own with baby to 10am appointment at local nursery, on foot. Whoop, may I say, de doop!
  2. Ditto above, but 2.30pm to Doctor's on Tuesday for six week appointment. (Start sacrificing chickens now that the boy will sleep through it- what do I do if he wants bf'ing if/when the Doc needs to examine me?)
  3. Ditto above, but 11am on Thursday to second nursery.
  4. Clean bathroom
  5. Water plants
  6. Look at bank accounts for DS
  7. Watch the Poirot/Time Team episodes I have recorded Blush
  8. Keep up good work getting LO to sleep in Moses occasionally- instead of a hot water bottle I've got a fleecy blanket on the radiator that gets put in the bottom for him to lie on, which appears to have worked so far...

We had our poo explosion on Saturday, just as we were trying to leave to visit OH's sister, and it stained his nice new sheep onesie, although it came out in the wash.

I hope everything is better in the light of day hawthers- it must be crap when OHs are not with the programme, so they become a drag factor instead of a support. Rant away.

LMF and aethel, I hope your respective health appointments go well today, and that your poor little man is on the mend LMF. You sound like you're doing an amazing job on your own.

figgy- enjoy it! We're all jealous, it sounds lovely Envy

Mmmmcheese · 23/01/2012 12:43

Sotired, pooing every other day doesn't necessarily mean constipation in an EBF baby. They can get very efficient at breaking down everything and not produce as much waste. At some point, think it was around 3 months, DS went from pooing a few times a day to just once a week but he wasn't constipated, just very efficient!

NorthernChinchilla · 23/01/2012 14:05

Today's experiment with white noise that DS likes- hairdryer and hob extractor thingy. Result!

We always try to have the TV on when he sleeps down here as well, get him used to the noise.

hawthers · 23/01/2012 14:09

Urgh more fish needed. Having a hellish day. So fed up of this.

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 23/01/2012 14:20

Advice please...I've made a Dr's appt for Rocco tomorrow but I'm wondering if I'll be laughed out of the surgery. He has a blocked nose...that's all. No temperature, no other symptoms of illness he's just really congested. But he's had it for 6 weeks now!!! That can't be right can it? I mean, I must be missing something.

DP caught a cold a few days post-birth & then DS got a blocked snotty nose, I used saline drops before BFing & after a 4-5 days it got better, still there but he could breath enough to eat without the drops but was still very grunty & it stayed this way for weeks. Over the past 2 weeks it's gotten steadily worse; there's no visible snot as it's too thick & gluey to come out (tmi sorry) but you can really hear it & he's started choking on it occasionally when sleeping...which upsets him & scares me & is the reason for the appt.

Just read my own post & I really sound like a 1st time mum don't I? Blush Should I hold off discussing the consistency of my son's nasal mucus with the GP Grin Am I just wasting the Dr's time? I tried to make the appt his 6-8wk check but they couldn't move it & I didn't want to wait another week so now I'm stuck with an appt to discuss snot! Blush

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 23/01/2012 14:25

Co-sleeping question; for those of you who've done it before or are doing it for the 1st time...less of a problem now but I was wondering what you do or plan to do about bedtimes. Do you let your DC's stay up until you're ready to go to bed or do you just go to bed at their really early bedtime?

LittleMissFlustered · 23/01/2012 16:03

Chances are they'll just say the snot is viral and there's nothing they can do about it. Get used to hearing it, as with small children it's often the case:) Can't help on the co-sleeping front. Octopus boy sleeps in a crib, but I go to bed when he and the other two do purely so I can get some kip:o

Has anybody seen plu about recently?

aethelfleda · 23/01/2012 16:05

I survived the Midwife! Good news: DS is now back to birthweight! He is still a bit slow to gain for the MW's liking, so they have referred me to a tonguetie clinic next week.
Sadly the visit was from a midwife assistant so she "couldnt sign me off", so have to get DS weighed AGAIN in 7 days (at least its an appointment though so no getting stuck in at home again). Thanks guys for all your support, I'm hoping once the tongue tie is snipped he may latch a bit deeper and it will make feeds easier for him. In the meantime he's happy and settled so I'll just keep going!

HoneyLovesChristmasCake · 23/01/2012 16:29

Congrats aethel on the weight gain...bit rubbish that you have to wait to be signed off though.

Thanks for the reply LMF could a virus really last this long though? I'm a bit worried it's an allergy to be honest...we do have 3 cats & 2 dogs...not sure how we'd deal with it if he's allergic to them :(

To Do List this week:

Take DS to Dr's appt
Submit tax return
Take a solo trip outdoors...a short walk will do
Batch cooking for empty freezer
Bikini Wax

mopsytop · 23/01/2012 16:38

Yay aethel!
