Hi there. Anyone feel up to joining me from Jan 06 ante-natal thread?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
lilstarry1 · 28/04/2006 21:51

Hello All,

This is just a quick one, but I wanted to let everyone here know my dad died this afternoon :( Tis all been a little sudden, a few days ago we thought he had every chance of making it. Unfortunately he discharged himself from hospital and caught a sickness bug (MSRA), his organs and body gradually shut down, he fought it for a few days but there was little left that could be done. The last 48 hours have simply been a case of waiting for the inevitable. A strange and rather depressing feeling!

Thanks for all your support, and for providing a sympathetic ear. I'm ok (really, I am). Although it was hard waiting for him to pass, it did give me time to think/reflect/grieve. Writing about it is a lot easier than talking about it. Bee's been a bit grumpy as well which hasn't helped. Bloody immunisations!

Off to bed, very tired. Hope everyone else is well, really happy to read all the stats - haven't they all grown!
Love xxx

HunKeRMunKeR · 28/04/2006 22:06

Oh, Lilstarry, I'm so sorry Sad

Be kind to yourself - will be thinking of you and your family x x x x

iris66 · 29/04/2006 07:24

Lilstarry - I'm so sorry for your loss but glad you had a chance to see him and make your peace. Take care of yourself hon. Thinking of you x

Chuffed · 29/04/2006 10:17

lilstarry, so sorry for your loss, thinking of you.

NappiesGalore · 30/04/2006 10:31

big hugs from here too, lilstarry.

iris66 · 30/04/2006 10:38

Hi all - hope you're all having a good Bank Hol w/e - it's been awfully quiet on here lately - probably an indication of how utterly knackered we all are Sad

Just had to share though - Dom finally accepted a cup this morning!!!!!!GrinGrin He only had 3oz but it's finally working!!! We put it just between his lips this time & I think that as it was just suction rather than any tongue action that gave milk he didn't mind. He even took it from me!! Shock
I am sooo pleased as I've been getting utterly frustrated that he would take water & gripe water from a bottle but not milk. I'M FREEEEE! (scuttles off humming merrily planning days shopping/night out.... la la laaaa la la laaaa Grin....... maybe I'll just to getting DH to do a night so I can have a whole night's sleep Wink)

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 01/05/2006 19:40

Hi there

Lilstarry - so sorry to hear about your dad. Big hugs from me.

Iris - bloody fantastic that Dom is taking a cup now. You'll be off to the bar and kicking your heels up before you know it..... or face down snoring like a navvy on your bed because you're so tired!

Am absolutely knackered. Haven't really done anything taxing this w/e. Guess it's just the contstant grind (i mean this in the best way possible) of looking after a baby. Went to a country fair on Saturday and watched this mad women dance around a maypole with some rather weird looking children in tow Grin. Had to leave half way thru as in danger of snapping a rib i was laughing so much. One rather large young lady was trying to prance around the maypole like a gamboling lamb, but unfortunately looked (and sounded) like a un co-ordinated heffer Grin Blush. Yesterday we went to see my bro's new pad in swanky yuppie development in Kings Cross. Once you get past the pimps, ho's and crack dens it really rather nice Wink Grin.

Anyway, I'm off to collapse on the sofa and watch House of Tiny Tearaways whilst feeling v smug that my two delightful, gorgeous well behaved girls will never be as awful as the little hooligans on there...... well at least not yet Grin.

Rach69 · 02/05/2006 14:08

Hi everyone, sorry I haven’t been on for ages, so busy with everyone over the Easter hols (ds1 back today, other two tomorrow thank god!) it’s only 3 weeks then till half term! I went to my mums for a week (very therapeutic) and dp’s sister is home for two weeks (she works abroad as a rep and hadn’t seen Finn) so have spent some time with her. Also had dd’s birthday (my little girl is 8!) and all sorts of holiday activities with the other two. When they are in they are on the laptop making powerpoint cartoons! Keeping busy and getting out and about is definitely good for the soul. I walked an hour down the seafront on Saturday (and then an hour back to the car…) and although it nearly killed me hopefully it will kickstart me!
Lilstarry – so sorry to hear about your dad and glad you got to see him. Condolences too to Georgie. Iris, hope your dad is ok?
Lyra (and everyone else having a down time) – big hugs {{{{{hugs}}}}}
It’s taken me ages to read up so sorry to not catch up individually with everyone else, the stats were a great idea, really interesting to read how all the babies are doing.
Re: saddle stuff, I really empathise with all of you suffering with your ladyparts (been there, done that!) my advice is a couple of stiff drinks (for you both!) and plenty of ky jelly – don’t put it off, your relationship deserves it!
Good news :) my bf (who you may remember, sadly had to terminate her first baby at 18 weeks last year due to a gross abnormality incompatible with life) is pregnant! Yay! Fingers crossed for her this time.
Ok, here are my stats – it’s a bit late now (sorry my fault) but I would love to know who is going back to work, when and what your childcare arrangements are (I’m going back in August – will juggle childminder I think). I’d also like to know how long a gap you’re planning to leave if you are going to TTC again (am not ruling out number 5! Shock Dp would love another and has promised to give up work if we do, I would love them to be looked after by him. If we do it will have to be sooner rather than later!).
Babies Due Date/ Arrival Date/ Age*: 4-01/18-01 – now 14 weeks

Gender & Name: Boy – Finn Alexander

Any Siblings: Brothers Joe (Joseph) 12 and Max nearly 10, sister Leah 8.

Birth weight/ Weight now: 10lb 4/was over 15lb at 12 weeks. Very long – 68cm and off the scale! (dad is 6’5’’) grown out of all 6months clothes Shock

How do you feed baby/ has this changed: Breast Feeding exclusively still (some formula forced on us in first week by nasty paeds Angry )

Nappies - Reusables/Disposables: Reusables and loving them – mostly fluffles and bamboozles.

Babies Health: Excellent with occasional shrieking for no reason (gets that from me).
Your Health Overweight :( exacerbated by grotty weather and c-section recovery. Although lady garden untouched (despite ventouse) my wound has taken ages to heal, still red and tight – horrid, also feels like I have some dead flesh strapped onto my stomach where they cut through the nerves. Emotionally up and down, better recently.

Sleep Pattern Variable, tends to sleeps 9pm-9am, I wake him at my bedtime for a feed and he usually wakes 4-5am for another feed. Envy at everyone sleeping through but I don't think there is anything you can do at this age, best to just go with the flow.

*On any routine (i.e. GF/Baby Whisperer): No, am flexible. Will reinforce his natural routine as it emerges (and be strict with bedtime once he sleeps through – hopefully before I go to work)

Immunisations - have you/will you: He’s had the first two sets and no adverse effects thank god.

Christening/Naming Ceremony - Are you having one? No, am lapsed Catholic. Also half of my family live in NZ.

Tickle · 02/05/2006 23:21

Quick hello from here too, as it is past midnight and I really should be in bed...
Great idea with the stats - will try to fill them in tomorrow :)

Lyra - hope you are feeling ok my dear, and that the excema is letting up. Maybe Alex is just taking too much out of you? I don't want to sound like my mum ("it was always much easier when we gave a bottle") but maybe mixed feeding would help give you more energy? I have breastfed each of mine for different lengths of time according to circumstance - and mixed fed very successfully for over a year with one of them. Ignore me if I'm talking rubbish :) Thinking of you.

Lilstarry and Georgie - sorry to hear of your losses. {hugs}

Nappiesgalore have you tried a buggy board to get one of them out of the pushchair? Still heavy, but I used to find it easier than a sling!

Will try to catch up more soon everyone..
love
T xx

Tickle · 03/05/2006 19:48

Here goes with my stats :)

Babies Due Date/ Arrival Date/ Age - Due 02/01/06, eagerly awaited & finally showed up when my mum had just flown home: 12/01/06. Given up counting the weeks already Blush

Gender & Name: Boy: Albert Theodor (Theo)

Any Siblings: Georgie, 7; Hector, 5; Clementine 2. feels like we have about 17 though...

Birth weight/ Weight now: 3.8kgs/very heavy (no idea!)

How do you feed baby/ has this changed: Breastfed; no change. Will have to start introducing bottles in the day so someone can take care of him while I work in our cafe.

Nappies - Reusables/Disposables: Mainly disposables. Still have Clemmie's tots bots which we used all the time - but with the 4 children I hardly keep up with the clothes washing!

Babies Health: brilliant - occasionally snotty, but stoic with it. A smiler and a charmer :)

Your Health: Definitely got fitter more quickly after the first 3. Addiction to chocolate worsening. Otherwise glad to say horrible road map of veins that sprung up on my right leg during preg have GONE :) No great interest in getting back in the saddle - just give in gracefully occasionally for dh's sake Wink

Sleep Pattern: one good sleep post school run, will sometimes last to lunchtime if I am lucky. Then it's naps after feeding, a bit of shouting between 6 & 8pm, then bed sometime before 9. 2, 3 or 4 night feeds :(

*On any routine (i.e. GF/Baby Whisperer): nope

Immunisations - have you/will you: yes & yes

*Christening/Naming Ceremony - dh's dad a vicar, so he has christened the first 3. Will christen Theo here on Samsø mid August.

Back to work - Summer season starts end of May & really ramps up mid June - so by mid June I have to be able to hand him to someone - probably dh's mum - during the day.

better go :)

hi pelvicfnm! great name by the way. sounds like lola wasn't hanging around - good sense of drama that girl :) Welcome - it's a lovely bunch on this thread, with probably the smiliest babies on mumsnet. But we're all a bit too busy to post regularly Blush so don't feel abandoned!

Just found out we have to go through a whole new series of hoops (danish regulations are astounding sometimes) to get the cafe open at all... and approval could take a month. Ho hum. Poor dh v hacked off...

Theo really unsettled today. Can hardly put him down :( So the work is rather backing up!

Take care all
xx

Beauregard · 04/05/2006 20:19

Kegs · 04/05/2006 20:57

Well if you are accepting new peeps...can I join too? Here's me....

Babies Due Date/ Arrival Date/ Age* - Due 03/01/06, arrived on 03/01/06 after induction on 01/01/06 - 55 painstaking hours later and ventouse the most perfect little bundle ever!

Gender & Name: Boy: Michael Philip (Mikey)

Birth weight/ Weight now: I don't do kgs??? so 7lbs 15 ozs, now 13 lb 15ozs

How do you feed baby/ has this changed: Breastfed; no change.

Nappies - Reusables/Disposables: Disposables

Babies Health: No complaints so far, not even one dose of Calpol yet!

Your Health: ok, but would like to start exercising but I have baby during the day and work in the evenings so not much time, but if that excuse aint good enough I have a whole heap more up my sleeve Grin

Sleep Pattern: Dare I say that we sleep really well, but that could be due to the fact that he generally sleeps in the bed with me and daddy (slapped wrists - I know)!

*On any routine (i.e. GF/Baby Whisperer): nope

Immunisations - have you/will you: yes & yes - have had them all, we are free till 12 months old - I think?

xxxx

Kegs · 04/05/2006 21:05

Sorry to hear your sad news Iris, my Dad died about 18 months ago, he too had MRSA xxx

iris66 · 05/05/2006 08:28

Hello Pelvicfloornomore & Kegs - welcome to the thead Smile
Kegs - it's lilstarry1's dad who died though not mine!!!!!Shock Am v impressed with you going back to work so soon how are you finding it?

I'm hoping (in vain probably) that it's going to be another gorgeous day (28 degrees at one point yesterday - or so my car said!) I've absolutely tons of washing to do & was out all day Wed & yesterday so didn't get anything done so a busy day lined up for me today.

Tickle - what a pain with the regulations Sad - you'll get to spend a bit of extra time with your LOs though which will compensate I'm sure Smile

Rach69 · 05/05/2006 10:04

Welcome pelvicfloornomore (PFNM?) and kegs, nice to meet you!

Tickle - excuse me forgetting but is your DH a vet and run a cafe or do you manage the cafe on your own? My dp is a chef (often works in wetlands) and we do a little catering on the side for local produce markets (I end up spending all the profits on goats cheese :) ) I would love for us to run a little cafe on our own but the start up is too frightening.

Finn is keeping me up all night!!! I'm hoping it is a temporary growth spurt because it seems to be a feeding thing rather than a sleeping thing. I'm doing 2 night feeds again and it's killing me. He's also feeding every 2-3 hrs in the day which isn't so bad, very glad I'm not at work. Kegs - what do you do, out of nosiness?

Iris - it's lovely here, another ice-cream day :) my cherry blossom is in full bloom. I think it's rain again for the weekend though :(

sweetkitty · 05/05/2006 22:00

hi all sorry I haven't been around much recently been having a hard time of it but more about that later.

Tickle - you always sound so busy and here is me whinging about having 2 and I have no business to run Blush

lilstarry - so so sorry to hear about your Dad loads of hugs to you

Iris - how is your Dad now? Hope he is recovering well.

Rach - good to hear from you too, I'm so with you on the goat's cheese you have given me a craving now.

Pelvicfloornomore - welcome to the best post-natal club on mumsnet Grin we are a friendly if sleep deprived bunch, your labour sounds a bit mad, I had a planned homebirth and that was frantic enough.

Kegs - also welcome to our little group, I'm also intrigued about your job now. Are you working full time? I always thought I would go back to work when DD1 was born but when the time came I just couldn't.

Things are a bit up and down here, had a bit of a crappy week really, Talia is wakening twice in the night and at 5am she wants to get up and talk to you! Not good when you are just getting back to sleep and Abbie's up and raring to go. I don't know what it is but I'm just so low. Got loads of other issues going around in my head as well.

Speaking of work etc whilst I'm being nosey what does everyone else do/used to do? Pre - babies I was a food microbiologist and used to audit loads of factories in the UK and abroad. Since we have relocated back to Scotland I won't be doing that again so need to look at my career options once I decide to go back to work, quite fancy primary teaching I don't know.

have a good weekend everyone better get back to it, got a little girl wakening up for a boob!

Chuffed · 06/05/2006 01:06

Welcome to the newbies :)
SK sorry to hear you are feeling low, I just 'don't feel like myself' quite often and have seriously low dips but then they go away... hope yours go soon.
Had first night of diversion tactics for ds for sleep as he is still only doing the 11-4 stint then up and down till dd gets up at 6.30am.
We gave him water and patted back and he cuddled with dh and we probably diverted for a good hour I'd say. I get the feeling he has just got into the habit of waking now so will see how that works.
Was damn freezing last night. dh and I went out for a gorgeous japanese meal on dh's work which was nice just the two of us with mil babysitting.

My history was that I trained as a physio but couldn't do it as I have a kooky wrist and got to the point where I couldn't drive or brush my hair so had to give that up. Then I worked for an insurance company helping people who had work injuries get back to work liaising with health professionals etc. Then when I was in UK I was doing PA work but got a trainee IT job so did that for the last 3 years which I enjoyed. So I have done quite a bit of everything and I too would quite like to train for teaching SK. Have looked into it and still might go ahead later on. At the moment I am hiring out small nappy kits to offset dh's earnings and we can claim all ds's nappies back as purchases for hire kits. I only have 2 kits at the moment 1 is out, 1 is being put together and they are both booked till mid June so hopefully that will keep me busy. I'm a bit of a nappy addict and am involved in the promotion of cloth nappies here do demos once a month.
Enough ramblings from me - take care and have a good weekend.

Beauregard · 06/05/2006 11:45

hi all,
Thanks for the warm welcome!
sweetkitty-sorry to hear your feeling low ,i have depression so iknow how you may feel, hope you perk up soonSmile
Im a health care worker in a community home for adults with profound learning difficulties and i am due back next monthSad
Hope everyone is ok ?

Have a good weekend .x

iris66 · 06/05/2006 19:53

Hi all

Georgie - I did indeed spend my first free night snoring like a navvy Grin(well, a morning 5-9 whilst DH got up with Dom), mega engorged by the time I got up though! why do LOs always want to get up a some ungodly hour no matter when they go to bed??? That extra hour would make all the difference wouldn't it - I could cope with 6am starts (do remind me of this at some point in the future when I'm moaning about getting up at 6....Grin)

Rach - snap - Dom is growth spurting too I think & feeding like a mad thing. I (stupidly) decided to start restricting him to a 4 hourly routine during the day (why oh why didn't I just think for a moment & do nights first?!!) he fell into it really well but in consequence is now happily feeding 2 hourly nearly all night Sad (stupid stupid post pg brain!) Have spent today feeding him at every whimper in the hope I can get things at least back to the way they were before.

Sweetkitty - I sympathise with you about feeling low. I've been feeling just completely run down lately. Saw my homeopath earlier in the week & came away with 5 remedies Shock to deal with hormone & thyroid imbalances (explains the 3 afs in 6 weeks & weight loss so mega I'm 2 sizes down from what I was pre pg - not nice btw, skin hanging off & no clothes fit) keep thinking your mantra "just a phase, just a phase, just a phase...." Maybe a trip to the docs might help you?Smile
Dad's making steady progress (thanks for asking) but we can't go to see him yet as chicken pox & shingles are rife here & so I daren't risk him catching anything. I'm in the middle of writing him a long newsy letter so he can read it in between visitors - hopefully it'll cheer him up a bit.

Anyhoo - DH wants the pleasure of my company so best go. hugs to all. xx

VickiB · 06/05/2006 22:14

As you're accepting newbies, may I join too??? I've been following the threads for some time now so feel a bit of a fraudster that I haven't joined in before now..... Here's my details:

Babies Due Date/ Arrival Date/ Age* - 29/01 / 04/02. Arrived late but went from 5 cm dilated to delivery in 25 minutes. A quick and violent delivery...........Never again!

Gender & Name: Girl: Phoebe Florence Rose

Any Siblings: Sister Lily (3.5 yrs)

Birth weight/ Weight now: 7lb 2oz / about 10 lbs (she's been slow putting the weight on)

How do you feed baby/ has this changed: Breastfed with a top up bottle of formula to keep the weight up

Nappies - Reusables/Disposables: Disposables unfortunately

Babies Health: Apart from the slow weight gain then (touch wood) healthy so far

Your Health: OK but my tummy is horribly flabby & i'm about a stone & a half over my pre-preg weight Sad. Back to the gym for me.

Sleep Pattern: Settling down. She's just started to go from around 7.30 / 8 to about 5/6. Long may it continue!

*On any routine (i.e. GF/Baby Whisperer): Baby Whisperer for guidance on crying / settling techniques - but nothing set in stone

Immunisations - have you/will you: yes & yes. 2nd set next week.

*Christening/Naming Ceremony - Debating with DH at the moment.

Back to work - Yes - probably in October. Another debate with DH!

lyra41 · 07/05/2006 17:52

sorry no time to catch up, just a quickie.

good days and bad days here, more good ones now i'm having treatment for the pnd.

however alex has been very colicky this pm so i'm off to bath and massage him to see if that will help.

hope to catch up later.

lots of love

HeyThereGeorgieGirl · 07/05/2006 18:04

Hi there

Welcome to all the newbies. Nice to have you on board.

We're the House of Snot at the moment. Have got monster cold, so has Libs and Mollie got horrible cough. Oh, and DH has wisdom tooth coming thru..... happy, happy happy Grin .....NOT!

Took the decision yesterday to start Libs on some baby rice at tea time. She's taking 7oz at every feed and waking up ravenous before 10pm feed. Tonight she had pears and baby rice. Most ended up on her bib, but she seemed to like it. Bless her!

In my previous life I used to head up a small PR agency. We did consumer healthcare stuff. Can't say that I miss it at all. Clients were a pain in the ass. Expected the world for £2.50 and ALWAYS complained. Am going to re-train as a holistic therapist when Libs starts at nursery a couple of mornings a week next year some time. Have to say that I am really enjoying being scrummy mummy and domestic goddess. never in a million years would I have thought that this type of life would be for me. But have completely suprised myself that after a rocky start when Mollie was born (PND and a divorce) that having a brilliant bloke that appreciates how hard it is to look after 2 girls and run the house, I'm really in my element.

Sweetkit - hows things with you my love? Feeling OK. or is the black dog snapping at your heels? Did the counsellor help? Anyone checked in with Lyra to see how she is? Might text her and see.

Chuffed/Rach/Iris - don't envy your night routines. You guys must be shattered. I feel exhausted and Libs goes from 10pm feed until 6 or 7ish.

Bugger, got to go. Mollie decided to turn bathroom into wet room and can hear DH's tone of voice getting a little stern Grin.

Love to all. G xx

barrelrider · 11/05/2006 14:29

Hi all

Welcome to the newbies! Great to have some more people to chat to!!

SK - sorry to hear you're down. You sound like an emotional person, I think having babies hits us harder when we're like that! I've been feeling low as well, the doctors keeping sticking the pnd label on it but tbh I'm always a bit low!! I'm actually looking forward to going back to work in July as I think some adult company and the chance to take my time on the loo will work wonders for my happiness! I expect that sounds v selfish but Dominic needs a happy mum! Anyway hope you are feeling better now. Sounds like your nights aren't much fun, poor you.

Tickle, are you Danish? If so your English is amazing?!! Anyone else not British? I had assumed everyone was!

Georgie - how are the colds?

Lyra, how are you? Hope you're feeling better.

Work - I am a software tester. Exciting or what?! I currently work with geospatial databases but previously worked in financial software. After I had the baby and went through the nutty bit I decided to give up on IT but have subsequently decided that it's great for me as my social skills are a bit rubbish and you don't need them. Plus pay is good, you sit all day and none of it really 'matters', there's no real responsibility.

Am I alone in still feeling guilty about bottle feeding? I only breastfed for a week and I hate giving him his bottle in public in case people have a go at me. Am I being weird? Must go, Sir is calling, hugs to everyone.
