Link to antenatal thread for convenience

Not a very good title, but it will suffice 'til we fill this one in record time!

Congratulations to all that have popped so far! Thanks Bear

Ergh, that's another nappy. At what point do I think there's something up and start to be more concerned???

Hi Oeisha, hope you managed to laugh at poomaggeddon, it's the only response other than tears! I think you just need to keep a general idea of how many nappies per day - we're at around 6-9 a day with 1-2 poos normally I think. If you get to the end of the day and the pattern is unusual then it's worth keeping a closer eye the next day.

Poor DD is not herself today - didn't go back to sleep this morning like she usually does, and has been screaming the place down and then having a few moments of lovely smiles, them screaming again. She has also been crying mid feed for the last couple of days and once or twice has refused milk until starving. She's bf, so it could be that she doesn't like something I've been eating Sad. I know what the likely culprits are in my diet - wheat, cow's milk, pulses, onions, but I'm veggie and can't avoid any of them (esp not all of them!) and still have a healthy diet.

She's asleep in the sling now but we're heading to bumps and babies soon - hope she's in a cheerier mood...

FrillyMilly · 27/02/2012 12:48

ghost I had some soy milk and DS was really unsettled for about 24 hours. Kept crying, had wind, no poos and vomiting. Have you had any soy?

Capybara · 27/02/2012 13:30

Hi everyone - have been reading the thread for a couple of weeks now, but every time I'm about to post something I get interrupted by crying/feeding/pooing :)

Really good to see that everyone else is struggling with the same issues, i.e. night waking etc. What is the consensus on food exclusion? Ghost, I have the same problem, i.e. as an almost-vegetarian I can't cut out wheat and dairy, I'll starve. But I'm not sure that T's evening crying bouts/mid-feed wails/explosive poos are linked to my diet anyway - ?

Speaking of which, we regularly see about 10 poos a day, easy (!) T is almost five weeks. All looks fine, i.e. they are the right colour and consistency, so I'm not worrying.

fishandlilacs · 27/02/2012 14:24

capy 10 poos a day my goodness me! but youre right not to worry it's not unheard of.

oiesha every poo we have ever had from J has been a poosplosion-he hasn't yet done a poo that hasn't gone through everything he's wearing. Trouble is he goes every 2-3 days and 2-3 times on the pooing day. i can't wait til he's a bit more regular so each one isn't so bloody massive!

I'm so pleased: I was getting a bit peed off with the velcro baby effect. He's too heavy to sling for long and he wasn't settling unless he was on me or we were out in the car/pushchair. I have just plonked him in his swingy chair with my hairdryer running and he fell asleep on his own!!! been asleep for about 45 mins now-long enough for me to sort the huge piles of laundry and get 5 mins on here :)

addictediam · 27/02/2012 15:46

I'm so tired, its like my 2 have got some sort of tag team thing going on. As soon as I lie down and close my eyes one of them starts, I settle her and the other starts. Dd2 wouldn't sleep this morning despite being very tired so I took them out in the car we got home and she was asleep, and DD1 starts having tantrums, I put her to bed and DD2 wakes up, I settle her and now dd1 is awake :(

Reading this I think I'm quite neglectful! Dd2 has 4 nappy changes a day and does 1 poo aday (although hasn't pood for 3 days now) I have no idea how many times she wees I just change her nappy when its full!

Ahas a 1 has a pooey nappy and dd2 has just started crying again :(

addictediam · 27/02/2012 15:47

That should be argh dd1

ghosteditor · 27/02/2012 15:57

frilly that's interesting, I think I had heard soy mentioned too but forgot about it. I can't remember eating soy recently but do normally eat a lot of tofu/soy beans etc so I may have done! Will muse on that. The poor kid is still wailing away (am doing one-handed belly rubbing and typing) so there must be something troubling her.

Her milk rash is also really dry and scaly looking, all over her face and head. Poor lizard baby. I tried the Burt's Bees lotion which seemed to help a bit, but the HV was a bit skeptical and has prescibed some kind of cream (like E45 I think.) I hate the stuff that's greasy but if it helps her, I'll try it. I guess her rash could be diet related too...

Consort · 27/02/2012 18:48

May I join the poomageddon conversation please?? DD had so many explosive poos in the first 6 weeks but I didn't worry as the colour and consistency seemed normal for an infant. Still not really worried as I know the pattern changes around this age, but DD has only had one poo in last two days but ugh was like a very large lake of slime. It went through two layers of clothes! The thing I didn't expect was the increase in gas. Suddenly she is pooing less frequently but instead is miss little farty pants, anyone else had this? I've been careful about what I eat. I'm also vegetarian so is tough but have largely been avoiding dairy as doesn't seem to agree with her. Really baffled by sudden increase in gas.

Oeisha hope things go ok with DH away. Hopefully there's no more poo incidents!

Oeisha · 27/02/2012 19:12

Things are going OK.
She's still being very grumpy, hasn't eaten much and is also very windy (but always has been). She's started up with the yelling before farting again however...
I'm ok with poomageddons...and pukings. Just wish she'd be her usual relatively cheery self...if there is such a thing as 'usual' in a 5wks old baby.
Fire brigade came round. Despite massive amounts of clutter, we are low risk. Embarrasingly, they turned up with a full pump (as they were on call), so we had lots of twitching curtiains etc whilst 2 lovely firemen installed a smoke alarm in the attic and talked to me about electric blankets etc (none of which we have!)...lets see if anyone asks!
DH is apparently missing us. I'm missing him. Finding it hard. Not cried much yet, but am close. I know I can ring people, but don't really know what to say to them bar the usual crazy "...take her away, she'll be better off somewhere else...", "someone take away the horrid images", "why did I ever think having a baby was a good idea", "...someone please tell me what the fuck I'm supposed to do with this thing..."...
...having said that DH thinks the pills must be doing something as I am crying less...but I'm worried I just care less...ah well. We're both still alive and here.

consort my boy is mr fartypants too.

Wormshuffler · 27/02/2012 21:30

Consort, My DD has now started pooing less frequently. We went for 4 days last week but when it came oh my!!! Shock
I googled it and it is perfectly normal. Althpough the information I found said there would be less poo as their intestines get used to the stuff in our milk , it certainly looked like 4 days worth to me!

knittiekitty · 27/02/2012 21:38

Oeisha - 'still alive and here' counts as doing wonderfully in my world! Hope you're enjoying some peace and quiet this evening. What is it about a fireman in uniform - lucky you...

The dairy and soya free prescription feed that dd2 is on results in at least 2 runny green Somme-like nappies a day. The green dyes anything it comes into contact with too, and my nighties and one of our duvet covers are forever marked with a souvenir reminder. And I wash her stuff and anything she 'marks' at 60. The feed smells revolting and so of course poor dd2 also reeks. Still, it cured her stools with blood within days of her moving onto it, so we're truly grateful for it.

My bladder sensation is still missing and I'm resigned to it never coming back. I have 2 more weeks to go before I'm due to see our gynae GP for a pelvic exam. He's nice enough but doesn't do eye-contact. Maybe just as well considering where he specialises in peering. But what can they do to regrow damaged nerves? I can't believe there is nothing on the web that I find either. Any ideas anyone?

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 28/02/2012 04:16

Kitty - have you spoken to the physio team? Seems weird to me, but after my section they said to contact the physio if I had any bladder or bowel issues

ParsleyLion1 · 28/02/2012 09:12

We had poomageddon yesterday on the changing mat during no nappy time. At least it is plastic but not too keen on the rolling in poo dynamics. We have one poo a day approx and lots of tootings. The poo is accompanied by crying and wriggles. Sad

Oeisha · 28/02/2012 10:59

kittie I've been told I can get a referal to a physio that specialises in incontonence, apparently this would be the first step....to me it feels like I have urge inconconence. I need to go NOW, no cues otherwise...bloody irritating.

parsley Snufflix is doing crying and wiggling with pooing and farting. It's so sad as there's basically nothing I can do bar distracting her. I've tried cycling her legs, but she'll only tollerate so much of it. It'll wake her up. She'll go from sound asleep to waking up yelling. Poor beastie...

Just a quick YEY because my blood pressure is remaining healthy and low on the reduced medication - I may be able to get off meds in the next few weeks!

The headaches when the dose changes are pretty unpleasant though...

ParsleyLion1 · 28/02/2012 12:51

oeisha also tried cycling and tummy massage. The health visitor said it's perfectly normal and not to worry about it though.

I took Thea to be weighed today and she had a little rash all over her tummy. Sad she was quite warm and screamed all the way home in the pram. I think she may have overheated - it was warm in there. She doesn't have a temp and the rash disappears when pressed. Think I might phone the GP anyway but may be a bit paranoid Confused

ParsleyLion1 · 28/02/2012 12:53

Actually rash gone now too- must have overheated at clinic.

Oeisha · 28/02/2012 13:37

oh gods. hour 2 of crying. started when she fountained vomit out her nose and mouth...
she looks so tired.

addictediam · 28/02/2012 16:00

Kitty, what milk is your little one on? My 2 are on neocate, and you do get used to the smell! The poo should calm down aswell, how long has she been on it? K

ParsleyLion1 · 28/02/2012 17:41

I hate it when they are overtired. Sad LO was fighting sleep til 3pm. Finally got her to stay asleep for about an hour and a half then we had to go to doctors as rash hadn't quite gone. He also thinks a heat rash but I am to keep an eye.

Oeisha · 28/02/2012 20:31

Is it wrong that I'm really pleased she's just booted allover Daddy...now he knows what I've been going through for 2 days...

Anyone else reading the book, ' Wonder Weeks'? I think - no, I know - baby cakes is in the middle of his week 8 leap even though he's only 6 weeks old. Kt108dd barely sleeping, wants to be on the breast constantly, needs lots of attention etc, but he's also making repetitive noises, focusing quicker, fixing on patterns more. It's exciting and fascinating to see him develop, but I wish he'd bloody sleep - i'm nauseous with exhaustion. Anyone else suffering?

ParsleyLion1 · 29/02/2012 15:04

I am reading it cakes. I think T is in the middle of a development spike as well which is why she is so clingy
