Link to antenatal thread for convenience

Not a very good title, but it will suffice 'til we fill this one in record time!

Congratulations to all that have popped so far! Thanks Bear

ghosteditor poor you, I could have written those words so many times. Hope you can get a nap today, only way to survive.

fish how did starting a bedtime routine go? We've been doing bath/story/lullabies. Sure she has no clue what's going on but eventually she will. Just hard trying to remember all the songs I use to sing DD1.

cakes glad you got some sleep time. DH took DD after her 11pm feed last night and got her to sleep. What bliss. She was still up about every 2 hours through the night to feed (growth spurt?) but I'd take that any day over the night before when we had screaming from 10-4!

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 10:17

Thanks consort. I guess we're all in the same boat! My parents told me that I slept through the night from 5 weeks, and I was breastfed, so it's probably fitting that DD had her worst ever night at exactly 5 weeks! She's sleeping right now and looking angelic, so I'm taking the opportunity to express. Sitting here half asleep with a pump stuck to my boob - guess you have to look for the funny side sometimes!

In other news, my BP is consistently down to

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/02/2012 12:28

I have to admit both dh and I have slept with baby cakes on our chest, but we have a chaise longue corner sofa which i've set up so you can wedge yourself and baby in and neither of you will move. It requires many many pillows!

Baby cakes and I went to baby singing today. He slept through most of it, but woke up for the hokey cokey which he seemed to enjoy!

I dressed him in a cardie and bonnet my godmother had knitted for me 28 years ago and he looked unbelievably sweet in it - I have never had so many compliments from random strangers, especially little old ladies! Only problem was that it caused some identity confusion and lots of people thought he was a little girl - even with his bright blue smurf legs!

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 12:49

That seems like a good set up cakes, but this was in our bed and I was worried she'd get buried in the duvet or squashed between us both. It was really odd as we had our first peaceful evening in weeks - she didn't seem colicky at all - and then at about 11pm she just woke up and that was it!

But I'm supposed to be napping now...

ghosteditor · 22/02/2012 15:50

I may be so tired that I feel dizzy, but I 'be baked a cake today! Life is slowly getting back on track, and cake is essential, obviously Grin

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/02/2012 16:44

I was going to get a start on dinner, but velcro baby says noooooooooo

mumnosbest · 22/02/2012 18:07

Finally crawled out from under the piles of washing etc that has grown up around me over the last three days. DD is actually asleep in her moses basket. Could this be the end of her feeding frenzy. She was weighed today and has gained almost 1lb in 1 week! No wonder I've been sofa bound, don't suppose I've lost that much weight, what with all the biscuits I've been munching! (my excuse is I've not had long enough to eat properly)

Consort · 22/02/2012 19:07

mumnos was that from growth spurt? DD has been feeding around the clock since yesterday evening. I literally have done nothing today but feed her and there's no let up. I'm exhausted and in tears as I have a non-baby commitment deadline looming. It's really important and if this keeps up there's no way I am going to make it.

fishandlilacs · 22/02/2012 20:44

consort sounds like classic growth spurt to me-it should calm down in a couple of days-go with eat eat and drink lots and try to relax as much as you can

fishandlilacs · 22/02/2012 20:46

My breats milk has gone insane! it's bloody everywhere-I am leaking-not just leaking but squirting everywhere everytime i take my top off and go to feed. I was spraying myseld in the face earlier but not realising where the funny tickly wet sensation was coming from.

MakesCakesWhenStressed · 22/02/2012 22:22

My boobs don't know whether they're coming or going. After Baby Cakes' hunger strike during his cold where he was eating very small amounts, but doing it every hour, he's now guzzling loads and longer apart - I too am soaking everything I come into contact with, plus his stomach can't cope with the change so he's suddenly become sicky - my clothes, pjs and hair have all suffered, as has his small wardrobe. I must do a wash tomorrow as he's down to the bare basics of his collection - the boring white one!

Consort · 23/02/2012 05:31

Thanks fish she fed at 1am then slept in my arms until wanting another feed at 5, so got a little break. Hope your boobs have calmed down! For you too cakes

had a quick scan through the thread and saw some people are already DTD. Whhaa? I'd love to but if DD ever gives us the chance again I'd probably have to forego it in favour of sleep. I dream of sleep. Anyone else willing to put sleep ahead of loving? I'm a sad case, no doubt.

abeautifulbutterfly · 23/02/2012 08:59

Consort I think we are where you are atm... I too have work commitments and a hungry baby (last night fed at 12am, 3am, 4.15am and 5.50am). The annoying thing is that in the late afternoon/early evening, when she should be stocking up for the night, I am so tired that I haven't got much milk, so she is waking in the night to get more.
Luckily my mum is here, and she is fielding all the children during the day whenever I don't physically have to feed.
Fish I laughed out loud at your last post!

mumnosbest · 23/02/2012 10:55

Consort - I hope it's just a growth spurt. Like I said she put loads of weight on in just a week. She settled ok last night (only woke 3 times) and is sleeping now (nearly 2 hrs). My mountain of washing now looks like a small hill. Hope you get a break soon too.
Cakes - I completely empathise with you and your squirting boobs. I too am running out of dry bras/pads/nighties. I'm thinking about breast shells for feeding time. I used these with DS1 to collect milk from the opposite side when feeding. I was surprised how much I collected and added it to my store of expressed milk for later on.

fishandlilacs · 23/02/2012 12:16

mumnos-i haven't used of breast shells-are they basically a plastic cap for your nips? i reckon i'd probably get half an oz each feed at mo from the leaky side. i'm using it to dab on J's spotty skin at mo. i just collect the drips on my finger.

mumnosbest · 23/02/2012 12:28

I got mine from Boots last time (I think). They're about the size of a breast pad but plastic and thicker, so it fits inside your bra whilst feeding. They come in 2 halves and you sterilise them like bottles. I'd say they probably hold about an ounce or 2 at a time. Just don't use them at night if you're prone to falling asleep cos if you turn over, the milk spills out and you get very wet Grin

ParsleyLion1 · 23/02/2012 13:53

I got given some of those in an advent bf pack ! I didn't know what they were for I might give them a go.

addictediam · 23/02/2012 15:46

Has anyone heard from oeisha recently? Has she posted here or on fb? (ive not really been keeping up very well Blush) was just thinking about her. Hope shes doing better with proper support in place.

Oeisha · 24/02/2012 11:45

I'm still alive addicted. Thanks for the concern. Nice to know people care! Grin
Doctor has put me on Citalopram. Used to take it before, so we decided, as Snufflix was already taking formula and I was giving up the whole BF thing that it was best to go with a drug I knew worked. This is only day 3 of citalopram, so not going to feel any different yet. I am OK though. Just have to rationalise my way through the crazy...but as I said to my doc, I can't be randomly bursting in to tears on the bus because someone says how lovely my baby is...or looking up the adoption process because then my baby might be with someone that can love her properly.

DH is as usual, being wonderful. Love him to bits. Don't think he'll ever realise just how much.

Other than that it's been a busy few days. Mum and Dad have been here and have actually been very helpful. They've just arrived again, so I'm off in to town to do all those bits and pieces that need doing..with them in tow to help out.

Oeisha glad you got some meds that you know work, and that you have supportive DH and help of your parents. Glad you wrote as I missed you too.

knittiekitty · 24/02/2012 13:30

Oeisha - big hug to you, I just cant find time to log on and am sorry to be no-one's support. It's ridiculous and I thought it would be a cinch second time round so a big hi to my previous daily buddies.

I took dd2 to the osteopath yesterday afternoon for a cranial massage. Today is the first day that we've napped as she was just refusing to sleep unless out in the pram or car. The lead weight has left my brain temporarily and I'm convinced it works.

We did it with dd1 as our midwife in London virtually insisted on it to help her ventoused pointy head. Up here no-one seemed to know what I was on about so without recommendation I had to find a baby specialist online. As dd2 had a straightforward delivery I wasn't going to bother but the colic and refusal to relax and nap was getting bad (she's 9 weeks now) and she looked so unhappy most of the time. I got her home from the session (about 10 minutes hands on time) and she stayed asleep for another hour. Miracle enough but then she woke up smiling for the first time ever!! And she's napped today woooohoooo! We wondered if it was coincidence with dd1 as they don't seem to do much but now I'm convinced. I've also ordered a love-nest pillow on osteo's recommendation to help ease baby's flattening head. Osteo also said to let her have dummy (I dislike them and worrying about hygiene) as it is important to ease tension in the roof of the mouth which is also the base of the skull. Second session next week (dd1 had 3 sessions) - fab.

shonnomanom · 24/02/2012 14:05

oiesha you sound like your in a better place now. I'm glad. X
kitty hope dd's improvement continues

Ds has terribly baby acne(i presume). It seems to come and go on a daily basis but is all over the right side of his face. I'm washing his face regularly throughout the day with water and cottonwool and the hv suggested sudocream but it doesn't appear to be easing any. Any suggestions??

Also, he has started to be sick after(some times during) every feed. So much so he gets fed with a tea towel over him as I'm barely keeping up with the washing as it is. He's nearly finished his first bottle of infacol which he's been having to help him burp. Not sure why the sudden change.

MissRee · 24/02/2012 14:55

sho is the rash on the side of LO's face that is most often on your skin (if at all). I'm convinced Freya's was caused by sweat where she was laying on me and getting hot!

shonnomanom · 24/02/2012 15:18

Yeah that's what I thought it was missr so iv been careful not to have him in tight but it doesn't seem to help much.

MissRee · 24/02/2012 15:46

I asked doc and HV about Freya's and all they could suggest was olive oil or sudocreme!
