I've had an awful past couple of hours with S but I think that's her down for the night. She woke up from a nap just before 7ish. Knew she starts to get grumpy again at 8 so have an hr to bath, get ready for bed and bottle. Half way through bath she just starts screaming. A proper painful scream. Just came from nowhere!! Had to get her out, nothing would comfort her do tried just to at least get nappy and vest on. Still screaming but had to leave her on her mat to make a bottle. She was honestly purple in the face but I knew it was the only thing that would help. Drank and was starting to sleep so just put her in cot. It's been quiet for 10 mins now. I'm noticing she does this a lot. One min will be fine, happy chatty then out of nowhere comes this almighty scream! I don't know if she is getting a shooting pain of something, either trapped wind so sore tummy or her gums are starting to hurt with teeth on the way. It's heart breaking to hear her that upset and it's times like this an extra pair of hands would help Sad

Anyway, she loved swimming today!! Lasted around 30 mins then started to yawn lol. My mum came with us so I changed her while my mum got dressed then we swapped. Much prefer the pool and changing facilities at my own pool but after the ££ issue this morn, I grudge taking her Angry

Can't offer much on the water front. I asked the HV about water when I was seeing her last wk. she said to offer some if I felt like she was maybe a little thirsty but not really needed right now. My brain is like mush right now, I worked with babies for 5 years yet it all seems to have left my head!!!!

Off to get shower before OBEM Smile

Bf babies definitely don't need water, as groovy said- hind and fore milk.

Sassy- I always give a bottle of formula before bed, stopped a bit recently as have been full up, but he needed it tonight, had been on breast all evening and went straight onto 4oz, I suppose I should express to keep flow up, but my nips are sore, and I'm tired :(

sassy34264 · 11/01/2012 22:24

scheh hope you dont think im judging you, are telling you that you are doing the wrong thing. i just meant it as advice if you dont want to lose your breast milk.
im always an advocate of doing what's best for you and your baby, so dont ever think im being funny. im never funny. Grin

it sounds like he is sucking for comfort, which is good for him, but bad for you- hence the sore nipples. as soon as eva stops the long dragging sucks and starts off with the little gentle ones, my finger is in her mouth to break the seal. i cant stand it. they really irritate me and make me want to itch!
she has found her thumb in the last few days. the 1st thumb sucker i have had. its cute, but i am thinking i hope she grows out of it early!

BB3 · 11/01/2012 23:01

Groovy - Ayse-Rose does that -normally when she's over tired she starts to drift off or is relaxing then suddenly hails the place down with her piercing scream! It's horrid! And hard to settle again.

Edie has been coughing loads and keeps getting mucus stuck in her throat - had a horrid one tonight where she went purple trying to get it out then puked everywhere (still at least it came out). Any ideas as to how to help ease it? Cough medicine did nothing. Maybe steamed room?

I must head on 4od and catch up with OBEM I seem to have lost touch with all my tv programmes (which makes me sound like a tv addict!)

Ouch Edward, hope you're managing to rest tonight x

Dh is working away this week so it's me and the kids tonight. Fingers crossed they have a good one!

Better sleep now have trainer in the morning then up to London to chat about work (not that I've made any decisions yet - ho hum!)

Night x

GroovyRach · 11/01/2012 23:42

Thanks bb3 maybe is just overtired. It just kills me to see her in such a mess and nothing I can do to settle her. It's either dummy or bottle in that situation Sad. Steam may help with cough as it will help open up and clear airways.
Good luck with work 2mrw! It's quite a thought that I'm half way through my mat leave already! x

Penelope1980 · 12/01/2012 00:34

groovy A does that when he's overtired. It's hard though, to know what to do!

I am so tired today, baby has gone from waking once a night to three times these last few nights, I have no idea why but sometimes it's like he just wants to play! Hopefully is just a phase ...

CheshireDing · 12/01/2012 03:02

Pene we have had a few lovely nights where P has woken once, fed, then gone straight back to sleep but last night I was trying to get her back down for 2 hours and she did this huge smile. I just thought, this is sooo not funny! Grin

Groovy maybe S was pooped after swimming? It really tires P out?

CheshireDing · 12/01/2012 03:06

Good luck with work tomorrow BB3. Are you feeling excited about going back?

Scheherezade · 12/01/2012 07:10

Cheshire- I hate that, when they look at you as if to say "look mummy, I'm awake and its night time and I should be asleep, isn't that HILARIOUS!"

CheshireDing · 12/01/2012 08:37

Ha ha, exactly Scheh, DH says it must be a baby mechanism to stop you shouting at them when you awake in the middle of the night AGAIN! Does seem odd to think of myself as someones Mummy :)

Well I give up now anyway, DH walked the dog so I decided to not do my usual 7am get up, it's still cold and dark but P has been on and off since 6.30am so I am getting up now. She was awake for 2 hours again last night, am hacked off with her snotty nose beyond belief now. DH said the Nurse who did her jabs last week told him they just have them and all you can do is do what we are doing. Surely this cannot be right though, she struggles to get to sleep for the second half of the night due to snot build up.

Sorry for ranting I am just peed off with it now.

Am going to get a cup of tea and watch placenta being cooked.

Groovy did you watch OBEM? I vowed last week I wouldn't watch again and yet still did yesterday.

sassy34264 · 12/01/2012 09:29

cheshire i recorded that too. not sure if i should watch it before breakfast or after. Confused

hope i dont jinx it, but ive put eva to bed around the same time as the twins for a couple of nights now and she has slept for about 12/13 hours. it probably helps that she is constantly woken up during the day by j & i 's antics.....poor thing must be shattered. she feed this morning at 7 and went straight back to sleep!
im thinking if this continues, im going on a night out with the girlies very soon! yeeha. (not been out since 18th dec 2009

MrsP81 · 12/01/2012 09:57

Wow, you have all been so chatty!

groovy A does the same thing, switches from smiling and chatting to screaming in a second. It's horrible but seems like lots of the babies do it!

bilblio, good news about your car. Hope they catch the people who did it though.

Cheshire could the snot have anything to do with swimming? I know that my DH gets incredibly snotty after going swimming so just wondered. I hope not cos it sounds like she really enjoys it!

I've started looking at nurseries ready for going back to work. Sad Not until August but I'm sure it will come round very fast. Hope your meeting goes well bb3.

bilblio · 12/01/2012 10:14

Hmm I watched the placenta thing too. I'm very pleased the woman making the shakes with raw placenta pointed out to the mother that she couldn't really pass it round for tasting as it had her blood it it!
I'm in awe of the homeschooling mum with 6 kids one on the way and a book published, oh and no stretchmarks!
I didn't really watch OBEM too busy tidying, it was on in the background. I caught DH watching the waterbirth one, he said it brought back memories... I didn't ask if they were good or bad :)

Cheshire Unfortunately there's not much you can do for the snottyness. You're already tilting her mattress aren't you? On the positive side if she's snotty now she may have a great immune system as she gets older. Not much consolation now though. :(
Actually I've just remembered, I used to put a couple of drops of Olbas Oil on a tissue and leave it near DD's cot. It says on the label not to use it under a certain age, but I figured if it was just in the air it may help.

Groovy DD used to do the screaming thing when she was tired. DH & I found it funny eventually "ARGHH, I'M TIRED, I'M TIRED, I WANT TO GO TO SLEEP, ARGHHH" Then after a while she'd just pass out. I agree it was probably the swimming that tired her out. I always want a sleep after I've been.

We went to get the stuff out of the car yesterday. The car seat advise wasn't needed as that had been taken after all, plus a brand new perfume, my glasses, a-z of manchester and the blanket I keep in there, which my Dad kept in his car and he used to wrap us in when we were babies if we fell asleep at people's houses :( But the posh stereo we had fitted as a wedding present to ourselves was still there Shock the pram base, my favourite perfume and the lipgloss I bought for my wedding, plus loads of other things. The car has so many compartments that they obviously didn't look in them all. Hopefully today I'll find out if they'll fix it. It doesn't look too badly damaged to me, but you can never tell with insurance companies.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/01/2012 10:30

Re snotty noses, I find the humidifier helps and dint have heating too high, tilt the bed/cot mattress if u can, and a tissue with some olbas oil pinned close by (or an olbas vaporiser)

What a night I had last night went to bed a 10.30 both kids slept right through DH got up with C at 6am and me and mhairi slept till 8.30 GrinGrinGrin

Should I be concerned that she went a good 10 hours without a feed and my boobs were NOT bulging Confused maybe I did wake up and just don't remember

bilblio · 12/01/2012 11:29

Fantastic Edward. I've had nights when I didn't know if he'd slept through or not, it's very confusing.... one particular night I just could not remember! It was driving me mad. I always read FB or emails during feeds though and I worked out he mist have woken as there were staus messages posted a few hours earlier which I'd read.

Seth definitely slept through last night though. He'd started sleeping through before Christmas, but then stopped again after the break-in. Last night he nuzzled for about 4 hours until I went to bed. But I also said to DH last night that I've felt so tense not knowing about the car and now I do I feel relieved, but drained, so maybe Seth has picked up on that too.

Scheherezade · 12/01/2012 11:40

Hooray for all the good babies sleeping through :)

Good news about the car groovy, but still so annoying that it was taken in the first place. I'd be terrified if I knew someone had been in our house, and the type of people who steal cars were in the neighbourhood. You'be been very brave!

Your dh has a point, so many times I've gone to his cot in a foul mood, just to see him laying there with his stupid toothless gummy grin and my heart just melts. I'm going to be so bad at being angry with him when he's older, he's already a spoilt mummys boy!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/01/2012 11:56

Yep it's really hard to be angry with them when they're older, then some days u feel like u spent the whole day telling them off and just feel guilty for it. Can't win if ur Strict u feel guilty if u spoil them u feel guilty lol that's motherhood!

CheshireDing · 12/01/2012 12:19

Love the quote "stupid toothless gummy grin" Scheh Grin. Is it straight though? P's is lopsided, she looks like Elvis.

Thanks for everyone's idea re the snottyness. I don't think it's swimming (thankfully) as P had been going a few weeks before the snot turned up. I just don't know if this is not unusual for babies or if she really may be allergic to something/some animal :(. I am not allergic to anything but DH is to the odd cat so I hope he is not passed this on to her.

So far we tilt the basket with some mags at night, put Olbas Oil in the spa thing and switch that on at night, put snuffle rub on her grobag, have a spray thing and a piece of wet cotton wool to stuff up her nose when I see a bogey. She manages the first part of the night but I think the snot just builds up for the second half and she just can't get back to sleep. This morning she had a MASSIVE bogey, I nearly photographed it and sent it to DH.Then I realised I needed to get a grip (and I would have looked like the woman who photographed her babies pooh)!

Fancy taking an A-Z and leaving your stereo Bilblio

Congratulations on the sleeping babies :)

sassy34264 · 12/01/2012 13:19

i worked in a young offenders prison for 2 years cheshire they're not the sharpest knives in the drawer.

lol at you nearly photographing boggies. i think my dp would have said, you should have! Hmm Grin

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 12/01/2012 13:28

Has anyone else noticed baby's soft spit pulsing? Is that normal? It's really funny looking!!

bilblio · 12/01/2012 14:40

Edward do you mean the top of their head? Yes it's normal, sometimes more obvious than at other times. It's just their brains pulsing, which sounds like some wierd sci-fi alien thing. :o

Yep we'd come to the conclusion already that they weren't criminal masterminds... and rubbish drivers too.
I can't work out what they'd do with my glasses!? Confused Do people really go into a pub and ask if anyone wants to buy some glasses?

sassy34264 · 12/01/2012 15:17

where they designer? they're big suckers for anything designer! either that, or they've just put them on for a laugh and then chucked them.
i had mine broke into once and they sat there smoking (it stunk) and listening to my turkey 2006 summer cd, (it was in the cd player and i hadnt been listening to it) took the front off my cd player, but left the body of it (which renders it useless for both of us) and slashed one of my tyres!!

CheshireDing · 12/01/2012 15:30

I had my car stolen once Bilblio and they took my riding boots once they had dumped the car. Very odd I thought!

I am a bit disturbed by a pulsating brain but will have to investigate now.

How much "activity/stuff" do people do with their babies each day? I wonder whether P is bored, I have nothing to base this on but I am wondering whether I am doing enough with her some days.

Every day I make sure we have:-
read something (be it a bit of BLW, the Gruffalo etc)
been in the chair with toys
been on baby gym
looked in the mirror
a bit of chatter etc
done some general bouncing around/baby flying
and obviously feeding/sleeping/dog walking

I worry that when I am trying to do stuff on the laptop (to make us some money) she is bored but then I worry that I don't know what constitutes over stimulation, arrrhhh!! Confused.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/01/2012 15:56

Cheshire - sounds like you do lots. So far today for us:

  • Led in cot nude on disposable change mat watching mobile go around flailing arms, legs and cooing while I showered and got sorted. The got her dressed
  • in rocker watching ds2 have breakie, get dressed and washed.
  • movie on for ds while I sat next to h nursing Jessica to sleep.
  • took her to preschool and stayed for hour and half. Lots of children paid her attention (they wanted to pick her up, she grinned at them all then got crowded and wailed). She fell asleep after quick feed.
  • Home, back in rocker while I did lunch
  • cuddle and feed in bed with ds2 playing on phone.
  • she's woken briefly for top up.

Bless her, I don't "play" a lot with her everyday and floor isn't always a safe place. I bought bumbo yesterday as borrowed one with ds2. She likes it and can see everything, tho only short time.

Currently she's asleep across me with boob in mouth. Ds1 and ds2 on NASA site for kids and house a shit hole Grin oh well, kids are happy and I'll tidy up later.

MamaMaiasaura · 12/01/2012 15:56

And she's not unhappy. Smiling in her sleep ahhh GrinGrin[grin
