Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Thanks Sebs, Minky, ssmile, geek mum and sarah. E seems to be a bit more like herself this morning. She has still had a bad bottom and was sick in the night, but I think she's definitely on the mend. Fingers crossed.

Cake, big congratulations :) That's fab news. I am slightly envious, but that's OK I think. When is your scan?

Sebs, I was/am supposed to be seeing my friend at the end of this week the one who lives near you, but I'm not sure if we will be coming, and with E having been recently poorly I won't suggest coming to visit you if we do go :( But when I see her another time I'll definitely arrange something with you.

cakeismysaviour · 20/02/2012 12:12

Thanks everyone. :)

100years - Scan is a week on Wednesday. Glad to hear that E is on the mend.

Loves - I will have to get an implant after this one....

My best friend pointed out this morning that if DC2 arrives a couple of weeks early, like DS then they may end up going to school in the same year! Shock Mind you, I might see that as a good thing by then. Grin

100years · 20/02/2012 12:57

Are you well with it or feeling sick or anything?

cakeismysaviour · 20/02/2012 13:05

I was very sick at the beginning, its easing off now though.

feralgirl · 20/02/2012 13:11

Ah fekkit, I just wrote a great big post to everyone and then lost the damn thing Angry

Basically it said congratulations and Shock and Envyto Cake; 100 I hope DD is on the mend today; Sad for Ssmile and you did predict that illness would strike on your birthday, I hope you're enjoying having DH at home, even if he's not well; boo to QRGM and 4-5 wakings per night, I really hope that's just a temporary growth-spurty glitch and DS goes back to sleeping better. And also hi to everyone else.

And also I hauled DS up by his arm when he was having a tantrum in a shop this morning and have dislocated his elbow. DH is currently at the hospital with him. I just phoned and the dr was in the background saying how common it is and it happens all the time but I have never felt so guilty about anything in my entire life. Sad Sad Sad

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 20/02/2012 13:46

Feral Sad. It is common I'm sure but won't stop you feeling terrible.

cakeismysaviour · 20/02/2012 13:48

Oh ferel, please don't blame yourself. You weren't trying to hurt him, it was an accident. The Dr is right.

feralgirl · 20/02/2012 14:43

Thanks guys. They're still not back yet, I hope they're not having to wait ages for an x-ray.

sebs71 · 20/02/2012 17:02

Feral - reiterate what others have said, not your fault and I hope they're back now and all ok. Hugs to you...

100 - glad E is on the mend now. Hopefully meet up next time then... that would be fun!!

My friend's ickle baby was soooo cute - and so light!! Alys felt so heavy after holding her!! Were they ever that small???? Really????

QueenRunningGeekMum · 20/02/2012 17:15

Feral Sad for you but I'm sure it happens a lot. hope your ds feels better soon and in a few years you'll laugh about it.

I've had a traumatic afternoon with lo, he was constipated and trying to comfort him whilst he passed these huge solid stools was horrendous. Have phoned DH and asked him to come home early in case it happens again. Lo is asleep at the breast and hoping he can stay that way until DH gets in. Sad Any tips? More on helping lo pass the stools rather than prevention iykwim.

feralgirl · 20/02/2012 17:26

Thanks so much everyone. By the time they got seen at the hospital, DS's arm had clicked itself back in so he's fine now. It will be just my luck that this is now his earliest memory and for years to come, he will tell the story of the day that mummy hurt his arm and he had to go to hospital.

Queen that sounds awful Sad Poor DS. Some stuff here about constipation. My nieces used to get really bunged up as babies (they were small too, maybe just something that can happen to little babies?) and my SiL used to give them diluted fruit juice to sort it. Maybe some pureed dried apricots or prunes, let down with some water? Diluted prune juice maybe? Rhubarb's good for constipation but it's quite a sharp flavour so not sure a baby would like it iyswim. Good luck.

ssmile · 20/02/2012 19:37

queen if its really bad get the GP to prescribe some sugarie (think its lactose?) solution or a suppository they are really common in Europe my alternative GP told me and baby doesn't have to swallow anything and fast acting. sounds like the mega formula may be causing problem. But like feralgirl said dried apricots or prunes zapped up with some water always worked for our DD.

ssmile · 20/02/2012 19:42

Sorry phone going very slow posting. Our DD1 got very bunged up a couple times as young toddler it was 10days and her tum was vfull of pooh the Dr gave me the solution she had two doses few hours apart and it worked fast to soften and encourage the pooh out. gd luck I hope your Lo gets some relief soon. I also massage the tum in w clockwise direction and wiggle baby legs like they are cycling it always releases wind with this Lo.

Minkyjj · 20/02/2012 20:56

Feral - my pil did the same to dh when he was small by swinging him by his arms between them when walking. Don't feel bad, it's very common.
Syrup of figs is a natural way to get unconstipated - I gave it to my dcs when they were toddlers - get it at the chemist - sure they can advise dosage. easy also to add to milk or yogurts for toddlers !
Just wanted to add that my lo still wakes every 1.5 hours without fail through the night and wants fed - he was managing 3 hours occasionally but that stopped at 4 months and he has been like this for about 6 weeks. It's killing me and I am shattered but have tried everything I can think of and nothing makes a difference. Whether breast or bottle fed it's just the same and he is on two meals a day now so that's not made a difference either. Will be trying sleep training but need to see whether he has lactose intolerance first and the appointment at the hospital isn't till April Angry how ridiculous for a baby with feeding problems !

QueenRunningGeekMum · 20/02/2012 23:01

Thanks for the tips. We gave him a suppository (prescribed by dr 'just in case' which helped a few more bits come out, but unfortunately that meant the suppository came out too and it wouldn't stay in! So gave LO some Lactulose solution - presume this is the sugary solution mentioned up thread? He did another painful one a bit later but seemed to recover quickly from it. Absolutely broke my heart to see him in so much pain and not be able to do anything except hold him and dip his bottom end in a tepid bath to help soothe it and soften the stool. His next paediatric appt is tomorrow so will mention this.

I've been going overboard with giving him fruit purrees over the weekend, didn't seem to help, but will try apple juice in the morning. I also do the massage every nappy change. In fact it was the massage that encouraged him to go today, probably a good thing as it would have got bigger and drier otherwise. I hope none of your los have this problem.

Minky my LO is still waking about 5 times a night, we got our appt quickly because the hv phoned and said it was urgent as LO was pale and not moving much, complete lie (as she reassured me afterwards!) as he's fine but she just wanted to get him seen quickly. I hope you get some sleep soon, tiredness is a bitch.

QueenRunningGeekMum · 21/02/2012 11:25

I see my poo talk has scared everyone off... Wink

Still some hard poos this morning, but some softer ones too so am hoping he's getting better. Gave him some diluted apple juice this morning from a cup, not sure how much went in him compared to over his bib but am hoping it will help.

Hope you all have good days today Smile

ssmile · 21/02/2012 12:23

Not scared off just very tired at moment geek glad your Lo poo is on the move again :)

minkyj huge hugs really feel for you my DD1 was very similar to yours nothing helps when your not getting at least one chunk of sleep. Can anyone help in day so you can get catnap? Or can DH do first wake up in night so you could get 3hrs+ in a row? I had to sleep with ear plugs or headphones in so I couldn't hear her cry just so I'd get couple hrs sleep on an airbed in our lounge (babe was in our bedroom), by 7.5mths she would take milk in w sippy cup which gave me chance to get a little rest as DH helped out.

Well my Lo is also still waking mostly four times a night, but she is hardly taking any food at the moment just little tastes. The couple of days when she did wolf down mash potato and chew crazily at cold cheese on toast, she only woke twice :) so I'm hoping now her cold is on the way out she will enjoy her food more. She likes feeding herself most. I gave her an apple baby rice cake last night she destroyed it chewing endlessly. And also had some avocardo.

sarahseager · 21/02/2012 12:56

Think my lo is a bit constipated too queen, she's been a bit grumpy generally as she's soooo tired but isn't sleeping well and she has a snuffly nose too. She keeps trumping but no poop since sunday - eek! Going to try some pear later and maybe just some water.

We had our first swimming lesson this morning which was fab but she's so tired now and has just got herself into a pickle with tiredness, hunger and blocked nose, she's thankfully now asleep on my lap but chances are she'll ping awake if I try and put her down - boo!

We all seem to be having funny old nights at the mo, last night lo wouldnt go down for 2 hours from 12.30 and ended up coming in the bed with us and then took ages to settle and was wide awake and shouting again at 5.30. I'm finding it so hard when she is like this in the night.

feral hope you are ok today and feeling better after yesterdays events, big hugs

Hope everyone else all ok and coping with zombiness!

100years · 21/02/2012 14:47

Glad the sickness is easing cake :)

Thanks again Feral. And I echo what everyone else says about not feeling guilty, these things happen, they are accidents and dislocated arms and shoulders are quite common. And wrt to it being his earliest memory, don't worry, it could be a big story about how he had to go hospital and have an x-ray. (though I always relay the story of when I broke my finger at 11yrs and the first thing my nan said was my skirt was dirty when I went to her in pain! It was a white skirt and I wasn't making a massive fuss, so I do understand why that was first thought :))

Geekmum :( for your LO.

So I've been covered in puke twice since I posted and had 2 other minor sick incidents, and 3 or 4 dirty nappies, lots of sleeping on me and generally being wronged. Poorly little girl. :( Think she's lost a bit of weight too(less chubby in the chops and tummy), but so far still got wet nappies and fontanelle is OK, so the big on demand feeding is enough hydration at the moment.

feralgirl · 21/02/2012 14:48

Yeah, everything back to normal today thank goodness. You'd never know DS was at the hospital yesterday Hmm as he is his usual barmy self.

Sorry to hear about all the sleeplessness. Minky that sounds pretty desperate and I really do feel for you. Like Ssmile, my first babe was like yours and I look back on those days in absolute horror, it completely shredded me and had a knock-on effect on pretty much the whole of the rest of my life but it did get better, slowly but very surely. It is just a phase and these things do pass but it is rough while you're going through it.

QRGM I think your HV sounds brilliant, what an absolute star! It's always nice to have someone on your side who knows just how to play the system Wink Hope DS's poo is on the move again now!

I have relented and gave DD some little weeny tastes of our food yesterday and today. I felt a bit guilty with her sat on the kitchen table in her bumbo while we all tucked into our dinner so I gave her a spoon with DS's pasta sauce on to lick yesterday and she gummed a bit of apple. Today she has mostly just squished stuff up and mixed it with her snot and drool but she really enjoyed playing with a spoonful of yogurt. I had forgotten just how grim weaning is; my kitchen is revolting after half a day of not even proper eating!

Pancakes tonight, very excited.

feralgirl · 21/02/2012 14:52

Oh 100 we x-posted. Thanks for the sympathy for DS and Sad that DD is still not well. How long has it been now? They do lose weight really quickly from their bellies I find; DS can be ill for just one day and go from normal toddler-chubbiness to looking like a sickly whippet.

100years · 21/02/2012 15:36

Well she was out of sorts on thursday, just a bit 'flat' and whingey. Then she started puking Friday evening after another 'flat' day, the nappy stuff started Saturday so it's been since Friday Sad she seems more perky but then gets what I presume are tummy cramps as she grizzles for a whole before sicking or pooing. She's been again since I posted last :( but is now playing (sat by me) with some toys.

sebs71 · 21/02/2012 17:17

Oh Minky that sounds awful... hope this phase is a short one for you.

QGRM - glad the poo situation is getting softer... don't worry, poo talk doesn't put us off here!

100 - hope E is on the mend, sat with you playing toys is a good sign I hope.

Ssmile - hope that LO's cold is on the way out and she gets back to wolfing the food down! Mine had advocado and banana mashed up today too and loved it! She took loads Blush is a bit of a guzzler now.
Sarah - My LO seems to spend more time in our bed than her crib nowadays. I'm getting a huge crick in the neck, numb arms (not helping the carpel tunnel) and bad back from it as it leaves you little room in the bed to move! But at least you get some sleep!
Feral Grin at getting into your post!!!

Took LO to the HV today and asked a few questions about weaning (and to try and stop the middle of the night bottle) She said to now to go 3 solid feeds a day (she's doing 2 at the mo) which I was surprised at so early (she's 23 weeks on Friday) ... so will start 3 meals a day tomorrow! Good job I've got lots of pots of pureed food in the freezer!

Yay to Pancake day ... but boo, as on diet so won't be having any (or maybe I'll have just one!) But kids are looking forward to it... !! Best go and make up the mix... Grin

jojo1983 · 21/02/2012 20:23

Evening ladies

100 Glad your LO is on the mend
QGRM when i was at work (nursery nurse) we say this all the time and you probably already do but we use to rub the childs tummy to try and help them go and also held there legs together by the feet and move the legs in a cycling motion. HTH
Sarah I bring my LO into bed alot as sometimes its just easier (lazy mummy here lol) and he does seem to sleep better and not wake up so much for a bottle.
Congratulations to the lady who is pregnant cant remember your name (tired mummy!)

Thank you to everyone for the kind words about my housing situation would love to tell you all that we have found a place but that would be a lie. Its been so hard trying to find someone that will rent to us as I am getting help from the local council I spoke to 10 estate agents today and they all said no :( . Oh well onwards and upwards!

LO had his last lot of jabs today and has been very grumpy ever since so gave him some calpol before bed, it dont help that he is also teething, has a cold, sore throat and barking cough.

Weaning is going well now onto three meals a day yesterday he tried spinach last night the food looked like his poo not that it bothered him he ate it all down but it did make a re appearance today twice! (sorry TMI)

QueenRunningGeekMum · 21/02/2012 21:04

Glad to hear about all your weaning successes (even the foods you've seen twice!) Wink

Jojo it must be horrendous trying to get a place, we're looking to move but have no pressures on us yet it's still stressful, so I really feel for you.

No pancakes tonight, too tired and even wimped out of my run so am in hiding from my other thread until I do it tomorrow Blush

But tbf we've had another long day at the hospital with check ups on lo. Good news at the end of it though, although no reason why he wasn't putting on weight originally, he has put on over a pound and a half in ten days with the turbo formula and weaning! Grin He is now back on the charts rather than below! Dr said the constipation probably a side effect of the turbo formula (as someone mentioned here) and to do all the things suggested to help it.

So tired but happy. Off to bed in hope that I get more sleep tonight!
