LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 07:03

Sad if it helps your not tge only one.

My dd (3.10) has given us all a nasty cold, she is always tired cause she is coughing all through the night, had it for over a week now do you'd think she would be getting better but no she woke me up at 5am asking for calpol and she was right she had a temp.

Fingers crossed we make it through the day.

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 07:05

Btw dd had colds too even though bf and I just tried to remembr tgat they would/could have been so much more poorly if they weren't bf.

ssmile · 31/01/2012 09:34

Thanks loves its just crap when you get up for the day feeling as tired as u did when you went to bed. Still I've made myself walk into town straight from school and fresh air has perked me up its -1c ere. Just having nice cuppa in cafe whilst feed Lo, then its 30min walk home after I've done couple bits shopping. Hopefully walked off the chocolate&hot x bun :)

My friend of friends Lo is also 22wks and after a exhausted melt down at her GP he told her to wean at 20wks and now little boy is on 3meals a day rice, porridge &banana and sleeping 10hrs a night! Oh that was the incentive I needed to follow my instincts on this as I'm 85% sure Lo is ready but its SO hard to know if u doing the right thing...oh the joys of motherhood :)

Hope your day is ok loves x

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 10:57

Wel I've had my toast since taking dd to nursery and tgat didn't touch the sides so have eaten a mini roll and 5 choc biscuits. I can't even begin to wean til I can control my eating, it's where I put weight back on last time.

I started dd on some baby rice at 5 months due to hv and night waking and it did work. I don't know I know it will make a deference to ds but I just can't face it yet.

Very impressed with all tge walking.

feralgirl · 31/01/2012 12:20

Sad the ill babies Ssmile and Loves. I think I remember with DS, when taking him to the dr for the umpteenth dose of antibiotics for the umpteenth ear infection, that I was told they get something like 10 colds in their first year because their immune systems aren't fully up and running yet. I also remember being thoroughly pissed off that I BFed DS for 18 months and he was ill constantly in comparison to my friend's FFed DD. Grr.

loves Grin a little bit at your Envy It is easier to forego holidays here I suppose, when there's beaches and beautiful countryside right on the doorstep. DH and I constantly remind each other just how lucky we are to be able to live and work in Cornwall; honestly there is nowhere else in the world that I would choose to be.

I am thoroughly Angry that I have put on 1lb this week through being a bit rubbish and not watching what I'm eating enough. Letting DS feed cake mix to me is clearly not the way to lose weight!

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 12:27

I don't think there is anywhere else I would rather live and work either Grin

100years · 31/01/2012 15:35

Loves, I love your no apologies for ranting rule, that's ace :)

sebs, glad your LO seems a bit more settled with the extra milk. I did get a slightly better night, but it's no where near as good as it used to be, but hey, that's the way things go at times. The headache did go though :)

ssmile, I'm trying to hold off the weaning, I still don't know if she is ready, although everything goes in her mouth and her hands are constantly going into our mouths, but I'm doing the EAT study where they like you to EBF till 6 months, and in my head I feel really really close to that and so I don't want to add things this close, but otoh I've just read your following post about your friend's GP and well, I just don't know. You will be fab and 40 come your birthday next year :)

thanks feral. I think I had a bit of a wobble when I had the cold recently, I had to get up, feed and look after LO, which I love doing, but then when OH gets ill he gets to spend the day doing nothing, because he's not the one with breasts and not the one doing the feeding, I wouldn't change anything, I still would EBF if I have another one, I would do it all the same, I just find it a bit weird that there is a difference if that makes sense. Just wait till she's weaned and then I'll be having a day in bed (or probably won't) Glad the KIT day went well :) I've read that some babies don't take much when mum is away when they are EBF, and so have a huge feed when mum gets home, other babies are the polar opposite and need loads.

I hope the poorly babies soon get better. Touch wood my LO has had only the beginning symptoms of a cold which never progressed to anything more than that.

Well I went to a bumps and babies group yesterday and [super proud mum emoticon] my LO was wowing everyone with how well she is moving around the floor. Put the toys in front of her a couple of foot away and she is at them in a minute! She's doing this weird semi crawl thing to get things and is well on her way. She's a determined little soul and when she wants to get somewhere she can and will now! She's off our mat in a matter of minutes and if she rolls as well she's off it and at a funny angle. The only thing is we have laminate so as soon as she is on that she is all slip slidy and having to work even harder. She does end up going backwards more on the laminate! But she tires herself out quickly with all this 'moving' and gets whingy, has a power nap then off she goes again! The only thing that's stopping her crawling is that she's not quite got the stomach strength to lift her bum up when her arms and knees are pushing, so it kind of ends up being a push with her feet and slightly sideways. I also thing the proper nappies make it a tiny tiny bit harder for her to bring her knees closer as they are thicker between her legs than a disposable, when she is nappy-less her flexibility is amazing! The moving is a great thing, but it brings with it new challenges and more watching is required.

Got to sort her out now, she's a big grumpy after a nap and not sure if she needs something.

feralgirl · 31/01/2012 17:00

YY 100 DD is much more mobile when she's on the bathroom floor doing nappy-free time before the bath. Also I think the cold tiles make her more likely to lift her belly up!

I'm having a bit of a grump today; like a lot of you I am in serious need of some pampering. Plus I have just discovered that DH has bought himself an XBox game on Amazon when we have no money. I went Hmm and he told me that I spend money on myself. Hmm Hmm He's not actually able to recall a time when I have though; perhaps he's thinking of the deodorant that I spent 79p on in this week's shop Hmm Hmm Hmm

Perhaps we can have a virtual spa day as part of the virtual hen do?

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 18:20

Have baked chicken curry in the oven now it smells amazing.

Lovin the hen party ideas Grin

100years · 31/01/2012 19:04

Sad feral to you spending nothing on you and DH buying stuff. My LO doesn't have a huge amount of nappy off time, I like it for her when she does but it doesn't seem easy to do.

YY to the spa too Grin

Hope the curry turns out nice Smile

100years · 31/01/2012 19:05

Oh I ran again. Love it Grin

jojo1983 · 31/01/2012 21:14

Evening ladies

So much to catch up on cant remember everything but will try

re weaning my Lo is now on rice and he absolutely loves it he doesn't spit it out and gobbles it all up! My OH dad heard on the radio the other day that they were thinking about lowing the age of weaning again back to 4 months anyone else heard this or is he talking poo (like he normally does!)

LO touch wood hasn't had a cold yet at all but maybe because we have no other children? My two nephews did have chickenpox just after christmas and i was pooping myself that LO would get it but he didn't so my heart goes out to all of you whose LO are suffering.

LO is now sleeping better through the night still not going the whole way through but will sleep 8-2/3 then have a feed and go back to sleep until 7/8 so cant really complain.

Two bits of news tomorrow we are off to a big soft play area with my best mate whos LO in a month older than mine they have a special area for young babies and its only £1.10 for an adult to get in a LO are free so fingers crossed we have a fun time.
Other piece of news is that my OH has been asked to be the face of a campaign to help raise money for the hospital that saved his life nearly a year ago. They are hoping to raise 2 million pounds to help buy much needed equipment for there trauma centre. As my OH has had such a amazing recovery they want to use him and his story to help do this I am so so proud of him and of what he has been through I nearly cried.

Anyone got snow yet? We had such a light fluttering earlier i was overly excited as I love snow but hate how cold it is!

Heres to the sleep fairies and hoping everyone gets well soon!

QueenRunningGeekMum · 31/01/2012 21:15

Feral that's like my DH.

"We'll never have enough money if you don't return to work... And on a completely unrelated matter, I just bought this super duper whizzy new hard drive" Hmm

Just ran too, loving it!

Well last night was horrendous, lo woke me at 11:30, 2:00, 4:00, 5:00, 6:00, 7:00. I know some of you have had even worse recently, but I was sooo hoping he was reducing his nighttime feeds, it was heading in the right direction Sad What was weird was that he didn't wake crying like he usually does, he was just going 'ahhh' like when he happily babbles during the day, but it was so loud I couldn't leave him so just fed him back to sleep each time.

So here's the question ladies: should I do the same tonight and just feed him every time he wakes? Or should I try comforting him? Or leave well alone? Confused

QueenRunningGeekMum · 31/01/2012 21:17

Jojo what great news for your DH! Smile

tiddleypompom · 31/01/2012 21:27

Did someone say spa??

Wishing poorly babies better and waking babies sleepy. Well done those getting about the floor (babies that is) and yes to feeling fat and frumpy. In bed with teddy bear I bought for lo before he was born but have snaffled for myself - who knew a cuddle with a soft toy could be so comforting?!

DS has 'non specific viral rash' on tummy and legs. Trying to fight cold - hope he succeeds...

Must sleep. Night night lovely mummies :)

LovesBeingWearingSkinnyJeans · 31/01/2012 21:34

Queen if you can then leave, I struggle cause I don't want dd to wake up but it is best

Dd gets viral rashes too, scared tge shit out of me tge first time.

Curry was fab, a new fab for us I think. Dh loved it too.

ssmile · 01/02/2012 07:17

Is baby hungry when u do feed him queengeek? I've tried leaving mine as my nights been horrid lately but when I do pick up she empties my boob taking a full feed, last night it was every two hours after a daytime of mostly hourly. I'm SO tired hence why I've caved on the baby rice she just hungry all the time.

100years · 01/02/2012 09:46

Not read back just yet. Will do in a bit, think AF is bloody here again. 16 days since last one. :( not not fair.

Oh and LO is on the verge of getting out of her cot by her 'crawling' only the safety cushion is stopping her legs at the moment.

feralgirl · 01/02/2012 10:26

Shock at getting out of the cot 100, that's a bit scary! Was it you who's got a proper sidecar cot? DD does tend to wriggle her way into my bed during the night sometimes but I always found with DS that a sleeping bag 'hobbled' him a bit, plus putting him in big fat night nappies!

Queen it's so hard to leave them isn't it? DD was jiggling about at some point last night but by the time I'd been to the loo and arranged myself in bed to feed her she'd gone back to sleep and I was wide awake! I think she only woke for feeds twice last night but she was very wriggly and shouty in her sleep; she woke me up squealing at about 4.30. I wonder what she was dreaming about?!

And Grin Grin @ your DH! My best mate said that her DP is the same as well; forgets to pay the phone bill but buys bits for the computer willy nilly.

I had planned to go to my local BF group this morning but it is just sooooo cold out there that I can't face leaving the house! Poor DD and DS were a bit shocked by it on the school run this morning I think.

We do a baked curry as well, from my Leith's cookery bible. It's amazing, you layer up chicken marinated in spices and yogurt with rice. Might have to do it this week now I've remembered it.

Right I am waffling and procrastinating as I have work to do for school.

sebs71 · 01/02/2012 14:13

Ooooh, yes, please, Spa session for the virtual hen party sounds soooo good. As the "hen" do I get special spa treatment? (Or will it be sitting in your dressing gown on the computer wondering why we're not all feeling quite so relaxed as you do in a real spa session??? Grin)

Feral - bet your house is going to be spotless clean and you'll have lots of tasty food then... I'm the world's best procastinator... find the internet is brilliant for it!!!

Went for a lovely pram walk this morning but brrrrrrrr, it's bitingly cold out there. Got to be around zero I'd reckon. They said on the weather that it'll get to -10 tomorrow night.. which means around -13 here ... YIKES!

Geekmum - I'd say try and leave and comfort and only feed if you really think LO needs it... but easier said than done. My LO woke at 10.15 last night (arrggghhh) and would NOT go back in the crib for love nor money (not that we try to bribe her!) She'd sleep soundly in arms, but the second you put her in the crib she'd be crying and lifting legs and allsorts - can't leave her as she'd wake DSD and DSS, so we relented in the end and put her in our bed - worked sort of until her feed. She finally went back in the cot after a feed, but fussed again at 3, then 4.15 - eventually put her in the bouncy chair and she slept for another hour or so before having a BIG poo and waking with the biggest smile as if to say "that's better... please get me up and changed now!"

100years - Wow to your moving LO!!! That's pretty impressive! My LO still doesnt even roll over! Although she's liking (no, tolerating) tummy time better now. I keep rolling her over in the hope she learns to do it herself, but so not interested! BUt when she's on her tummy she does do the whole crawling action - but gets frustrated at it as she goes nowhere!

But she's doing these wonderful screams now - happy ones - they're hysterical! DSS is now getting more interested in her (he's a 12 year old lad, so not too much interest till now!) as she's smiling loads at him!

YAY to February!!! I am so pleased January has gone, I hate that month!

And :( to all poorly babies... hope they are all better soon. We've been very lucky that LO hasn't had a sniffle yet (touch lots of wood)... and she was only BF for 3 weeks (then a mix till 9 weeks but FF since). But we do live at 1000ft up in an old stone cottage - so it's always cold, she lives with a 10 year old, a 12 year old and a dog - so guessing her immune system has to fight hard for her and maybe that's keeping bugs at bay (or maybe it's just to cold for bugs around here!)

Right, off to ponder spa treatments... you can but dream...

tiddleypompom · 01/02/2012 19:41

Sebs we get the screams too - they're hilarious! Similar motor skills too by the sounds of it. I saw baby 100years with my own eyes rolling across the floor - my DS watched on from his sedentary position but didn't appear to be sufficiently inspired...!

Cheers to all

Minkyjj · 02/02/2012 00:53

Hello lovely mummies. Thanks for all your kind comments - wish we were all nearby, think you would all make wonderful friends Grin
Lo has had a cough and cold for a while now and I seem to be fighting it. Ds1 up frequently with nosebleeds post cold and had dd1 off school with cold too. Dh departs for snowy climbs on Saturday and even although he is not even gone yet I am already at breaking point. Lo doesn't sleep at night for any longer than 3 hours between feeds and usually it's 2 hours or less. I am so tired I have actually forgottenhow to sleep and lie there awKw having panic attacks about really silly stuff. Despite bring bf I think lo may be lactose intolerant - off to see gp about it a week on Friday. So many other problems with family stuff going on at the moment, not sure how to get through next week without dh but will gain strength from all of you guys I am sure Wink sllleeeep......

summerpixie · 02/02/2012 02:21

Morning all. Had a quick read and lol when I read your comment on your FIL jojo. Grin I haven't read anything about lowering the weaning age to 4mths but only saw the peviously mentioned report on scientific studies saying the kidneys are mature enough at 4 mths to cope with weaning.
Sad for poorly babies. DD had green squits and puking for 2 days. We had gone out and I had given her hungry baby aptamil. She's had normal stuff fine before but doesn't seem to be able to tolerate HB. She is also cutting her first tooth. Well it's at the surface and it's not the cutesy front tooth either! She grabbed my finger to bite the other day and clamped down and I thought 'ooerr, that was hard.'
So with teething and upset tummy DD has decided that she is going to avoid feeding altogether. I have to wait til she is asleep and slip the bottle in and hope she sucks. I also resorted to making baby rice but really runny. She actually took it all in so that was one way of getting milk into her. I gave her a thicker version today and her face was like 'urgh WTH is this?!!!' and then she swallowed it and opened up for more.
Do any of your LO's make very loud noises like an aeroplane? DD does this when tired coupled with raspberries and a screaming shout then drops straight to sleep! It seems like an energy discharge.
100 (I think) boo to AF. It's horrible to have her back when she had gone away for so long! Are you still BF? I feel short changed that I am expressing and have had AF. Why can't our bodies accept that bf=AF on long term hol??!!
Oh pants. I forgot who it was that thinks their LO has lactose intolerance. Anyway, my cousin's DS has LOADS of allergies and was on breast milk until 10mths. There were loads of foods that mummy had to avoid and gp has prescribed a special milk which is lactose gluten and soy free! However it was to be expected as both parents have several allergies, with my cousin being allergic to nuts and shellfish along with very bad eczema. Fortunately, my kids have seem to tolerate all the crap I eat. I always ate loads of snickers and crab (not together) during pregnancy!
Anyway, back to watching Fringe and then bed. get well soon LO's and give your mummies a break!

tiddleypompom · 02/02/2012 08:14

Mmm snickers...

Viral rash is starting to disappear - I am so relieved ds was able to fight off whatever it was, it must be so hard when the babies get ill. Wishing quick recoveries (v sad to hear of nosebleeds too, I used to get them & they are quite shocking).

Lo hungry in the night again - usually around 4am. Not too fussed though I do feel more tired than normal - I was getting used to lots of sleep! Not tempted to wean quite yet (18weeks).

Good luck without DH minky - we are 'here' for you!

mil over today so off to tidy!

sebs71 · 02/02/2012 09:09

LO spent most of the night in with us again... she just cries when you put her in the crib... but sleeps soundly in arms or in our bed or in the bouncy chair! Arrhhh...

Minky - we can support each other - my OH is away from Sunday till Wednesday night, so not quite all week but still :( Is away in Algeria with work. DSD and DSS are staying with their mum till Wednesday so that's 2 less to look after but also less company :( Plus, there's talk of snow over the weekend, so hope I'm not stranded up here! Really must learn to drive the landrover!

It was -5 when I got up this morning (outside not inside, thankfully, though felt about the same inside!) Brrrrr....

Right, must get going, got to walk the dog and want to go into town - might be going for drink (lime and soda for me) tomorrow night with a few friends - but depends on how cold it is / how tired I am (it's half hour drive to town, and if it's minus 10 as promised, don't fancy it!!!)
