Hi All, I thought I'd start a new 2006 thread for the October 2004 Mummies and Babies.

OP posts:

biglips · 12/07/2006 08:34

morning all

Yesterday i was at a soft play area (only a small one) and another little girl was there - 22 mths old (born sept 04)..my DD was saying Hiya to her and talking loads of babble and the poor little girl just froze as her mum said she was shy and she answered her phone so my DD was trying to give her a hug and giving the girl one of the soft balls to play with - i was thinking "Aww im proud of my DD, cos she is very friendly and very playful and very willing to share the toys too as she gives them the toy to play with" - i just wanted to pick her up and give her a big sloppy kiss on her cheek!!!

IslaAndMomma · 12/07/2006 19:15

dd came home from nursery today and can now count to ten ... sometimes misses out seven but told me that her bag has four buttons ("buttoms") ... i'm really pleased with the nursery at the moment - had a nice chat with her keycarer about potty training. they're not sure she's quite ready but said that if i do want to start they can help on the days that she's there.

we're moving offices at the beginning of september so i have to find somewhere new! will be sad as she has been going to the same place since she was 6 months. will also have to find a new childminder

hoping that she will adjust ok to the change - the nursery did suggest that rather than suddenly starting the new nursery, i think about putting her into the new one one day and keep her going to this one another day or an afternoon. would be a pain driving cos i'll have to double back but i think it might be kinder to isla.

maisiemog · 13/07/2006 14:59

Jbad, does Toby have seizures? Or do they mean if he has them in the future they wouldn't medicate him?
What is a blue badge, is that so he can park anywhere in his Tobymobile?
How is he getting on with the glasses? Does he take them off?
He is getting loads of hair isn't he, do you have blonde hair Jbad?
Geog - I did post about re-elasticating tots. It's not that hard, you just use a seam-ripper to rip a hole in the side seam at the gusset area, them pull the nappy inside out through the hole.
Then you pull of the old elastic and sew on the new elastic. Tots use a straight stitch to sew on elastic and just sew along the seam, it's really easy. You have to stretch the elastic and sew it, so when you let go it it relaxes and you get ruffles - IYKWIM.
Because you have now closed the first hole you have to rip the seam at the front at the tummy and pull it through and then sew it closed.
It's really basic even if you don't have much of a clue about sewing (me) it is quite straight-forward.

Hiya everyone... hope everyone is ok?....
Isla... hmmm very impressed with your Grace esp on the number as mine can count up to five but i havent done up to 10 yet..and she is forever singing/signing twinkle star!

Having a nightmare with the nappy situation atm - as im getting fed up with her taking her nappy off!!! she can still take it off even with her bodysuit on, poppers sleepsuits on, pjs on , zip sleepsuit - she can unzip it BUT this morning was going too far as she pooed in her playpen with her nappy off - she had pjs!!!

any ideas - im gonna give a go potty training even though she is not showing any signs being ready!

geogteach · 13/07/2006 19:05

Masie that sounds scarey, might have to see if my mum can help.

I am currently totally overwelmed, i've just become chair of DD's pre school, today about 10 files of stuff was delivered which I need to wade my way through and I find myself having to recruit an admissions secretary. My brain aches and this is a voluntary position, what have I done?

IslaAndMomma · 13/07/2006 20:46

oh dear geog - can you see the screen over your pile of paper or are you struggling for air!

i can sympathise as my desk is covered in various piles of paper all of which i need to work thru and each pile is urgent - so have introduced a new scale of urgentness! .. gasp

altho mine is work - as its for my own company i have to get thru it to help the company make money so i can be paid my monthly packet of peanuts ... isla has helped by tearing up a few sheets of paper (who needs a shredder?)

IslaAndMomma · 13/07/2006 20:47

biglips - we havent gotten any further with the potty training. me and dp are going to take a few days off at the beginning of aug so we might try having a proper run at it then. we bought a book "my potty book for girls" but i think she's a bit young to understand - it seems to have reinforced her belief that the potty is for teddy bears!

maisiemog · 13/07/2006 23:30

Biglips, I wonder if you could put a wrap from a cloth nappy over the top, one with poppers like a Mother-ease airflow.
Alfie started to unfasten velcro when he was six months old and I moved to poppered nappies. He can pull them undone sometimes, but velcro nappies get undone in minutes. The fastenings on disposables are basically velcro, although more grippy than clothing velcro.
Geog, its really not that hard, it's just a bit boring. Do you have a sewing machine?
If you just unpick the worst one, you'll see what I mean.
Mind you, if you are being swamped by a huge moving pile of paper then give them to your mum. That's what grannies are for, they think they are just for giving sweeties to their grandchildren, keeping them up through their naptime and then leaving you to deal with the consequences. But no, they are there to be given huuuge piles of totbots nappies to be re-elasticated.
That's funny that Isla thinks the potty is for teddies. Of course she's right. I mean, imagine the mess if teddies didn't have potties to use?!

OP posts:
geogteach · 14/07/2006 20:49

On real nappies nappy nippas do the business for keeping them on. On the potty training fraid i'm sticking to my wait till he's older and blitz it in a week theory.Though if he keeps rugby tackling kids twice his size he may not live to an appropriate age for toilet training

jbadgirl · 14/07/2006 21:40

Well we have our appointment through for tobs eeg. Its on monday 24th July (pretty quick for the nhs!)

The pead thinks that he could be having small seizures but she isnt 100% sure, the eeg should tell us more.
When I say blue badge i mean a disabled badge for parking, we get dla for him atm.
He is pretty good with his glasses, manages to get them off sometimes. It is good in a way because he has never really brought his hands up to his face intentionally before, but on the flipside I hope he doesnt take them off too much!!
I have dark brown hair and dh has light brown hair. Tobys hair has got lighter since its been sunnier!!

He seems to be getting on really well with the ng tube too, hasnt figured out how to pull that out yet....thank goodness!
In actual fact he is doing so much better than what he used to, seems to be fixing on things for a little longer, more smiley etc.
I know its a little way off yet but has everyone got flexible hours of work for when their child goes to school??

I am starting to wonder what I am going to do as tobs will probably get a place at the spec needs school when he is 2. To start with it should work out well as dh has wed and thurs off so he can go for those 2 days, but when he can go for additional days im stuck.
My hours of work alternate from 7.30 - 4.30 to 9-6.

maisiemog · 15/07/2006 21:49

I only work part-time at the moment and dp or dm take care of Alfie whilst I'm out. I work evenings and weekends at the moment. We aren't entitled to a place at nursery on the state until Alfie is three, so if my situation changes, I'll just have to fork out for a child minder.
I've got an interview in a week for an IT job, which is what I am qualified to do, but I'm kind of working in a university library because it suits Alf.
I'm glad to hear that Tobes is smiling more, he is such a cutie.

OP posts:
jbadgirl · 16/07/2006 12:34

I put another pic of him on again, he is so smiley today!

KathH · 16/07/2006 21:06

jbadgirl - he is such a cutie!

biglips · 17/07/2006 09:37

jbad - hes such a smiler !! i hope u can work summat out for the working hours - how many hours will Tobs will be in at the school - full time?

Good luck at the job interview Maisie - im still looking for one too but its so quiet down here in liverpool!!

Yesterday afternoon for 3.5hrs me and DD were at the beach - DD had a time of her life as coudlnt get enough of it she was so good for mummy whilst Daddy was fishing all day yesterday and bought home loads of mackeral - yum yum!! but its so pongy in here!!

On the nappy news seems to be good as ive bought Easy up pants and im telling DD that thats her new knickers for BIG girls so she quite impressed with them and so am i!

maisiemog · 17/07/2006 23:50

I'm quickly posting because when I looked this thread was at 666, so I thought 'better post' just in case Alfie goes all funny.
Saw the very happy Toby Jbad, he looks as if he is having a good chuckle. Very cute!
Oh I'm taking Alf to the beach tomorrow Biglips, I hope he is a good boy for mummy too!! Fat chance!
Is anyone still attending a group of some sort, like singing massage swimming for babies or whatever? I haven't been to any for ages, is that just a phase mums go through when their babies are under one?
Alfie was always the naughtiest baby in the class anyway, I get fed-up holding him on my knee by force so he couldn't go and empty all the other mummies' handbags onto the floor.
DP took Alfie to a party the other day and he said Alfie loved the dolly's pram and dolly with clothes and pushed it around like crazy. Then another baby got hold of the baby when Alfie was doing something else, and when Alfie came back he was furious, and kept trying to run over the baby napper with the pram. So I'm going to see if I can buy him a pram from ELC, you never know he might actually not run away from me all the time if he has a pram to push?

OP posts:
biglips · 18/07/2006 08:29

maisie - good luck on the beach today !! and dont forget to take his football too. You can also look for prams/buggies in Woolworths - not sure which one the cheapest - look online before you go to do your "homework"

biglips · 18/07/2006 08:33

last friday when i went to the Baby signing class, we were all singing away and the woman who runs the group her DD who is 2.5yrs old had 2 musical shakers where my dd had none so her mum asked her DD to give one to my DD which she did eventually and then my DD gave it back to her but was expecting her to give it back to my DD so the girl just shouted NO and my DD smacked her on the hand and then it was a girls slap after that till i had to seperate them!!!

maisiemog · 18/07/2006 22:49

Biblips, Oh no, what a nightmare! I can't wait (or actually I can) until Alfie gets into a fight. I reckon a lot of children will know how to sign in the future, which is a good thing IMO.
It was soo lovely at the beach, we went to longniddry, about 20 minutes from where we live, and as it's an estuary the water was miles away, so Alfie raaaaaaan all the way to the water. All the pools were like bathwater and there was lots of mud, so Alfie was ecstatic. He threw mud and did lots of bellyflops in the water. He keeps running up to dogs and trying to rub noses with them, which is sweet, but some of them look well dodgy with those muzzly things round their noses. Grrrrowwfff!

Then we went for something to eat, but the no nap was beginning to tell and we had to eat in about 30 seconds before Alfie exploded!
He had an icecream, but accidentally dropped the icecream bit, luckily didn't notice and ate the cone. He went to sleep in about 1 minute. ZZZZZ!

Not been on for a while. DP is going through a bit of a rough patch and has now been put onto anti-depressants to help him. Am looking forward to them kicking in, as I'm really worried about him at the moment. DD is starting to pick up on it, keeps rubbing his head or leg and saying "poor daddy". Am told by doctor that this is only a short term thing and he will be fine in a few weeks

cazzybabs · 20/07/2006 14:29

IslaAndMomma poor you and your family - hope the ADs help your Dp.

I do not like this heat - Grace came back from nursery yeserday and cried for an hour before asking for her cot and then going to sleep for the night!. Oh god am having my neck chewed by the cat! Horrid thing! Grace is in disgrace at the mo as she has drawn on the sofa (mind you it is only a £25 Ebay one!) and the walls!!!!!!

maisiemog · 21/07/2006 00:13

Oh dear, Isla's momma, that must be difficult, just knowing what to do. You always want everything to be so perfect for children (well that's how I feel sometimes), but it very seldom is, and they do manage. I hope your DP is feeling better soon.

OP posts:
biglips · 21/07/2006 21:14

IslaAndMomma - hope your DP is better soon xxx

DD had strawberries and squirt cream for the first time - she was loving the cream - yum yum yum!! but wasnt sure on the strawberries as it was abit tarty but suckd on it instead and was asking for more more more cream!!!

biglips · 22/07/2006 12:37

biglips · 22/07/2006 21:47
