Happy New Year!

Maddison · 27/01/2006 21:19

Wow congratulations Booge!! I'm so happy for you

It was DS1's 5th birthday on Monday, yet another reminder of how fast the years slip by. It seems like just yesterday he was as small as DS2 is now. He had a lovely day although he had to go to school but he was dead chuffed because all his classmates sang happy birthday to him and he got to wear his badge!!!

DS2 was doing the commando crawling thing for a while then progressed to barrel rolling along the floor and managing to shuffle around on his belly to change direction BUT on Wednesday he started to crawl properly on his hands and knees and my god he gets everywhere!! He is also clapping his hands a lot now and he has started to get surprisingly loud and shouting 'dadadadada', which of course DH loves He still eats everything he can get his hands on including socks, my boots picture frames you name it! I guess now he is mobile nothing is sacred LOL!! Still no teeth though - so at least he isn't leaving teeth marks wherever he goes

Glad to hear the cranial helmet is working well Myermay - 50% change in a few months is brilliant, just think in 2 months it will be off and you will be able to stroke his head till your hearts content

Love to all May mums and babies xx

Hello, I'm new to mn, I have been reading this thread for the last couple of days, it was been so useful to me. I hope that I can add some words of wisdom (or maybe not so wise) here and there.

logic · 29/01/2006 23:11

Welcome Donaldduck! So, do you have a baby girl or boy?

OP posts:
LittleB · 30/01/2006 09:06

Welcome Donaldduck. Congratulations Booge!
dd isn't crawling or on all fours yet, but she does the beached whale thing alot, then yells for me to sit her up again. She does have two little teeth though, which makes the beadsticks disappear alot more quickly except that occaisionally she tries to swallow bits that are too big now!
Glad the helmet is working so well Myermay, it'll all be worth it in the long run.

booge · 30/01/2006 13:52

Hi and welcome donaldduck,
yes it will be about 17 months Myermay, I am so glad you and your sister are such good friends that is what we are hoping for. I hope it will be nice for them to play together and as I'm the wrong side of 35 we didn't feel it was worth hanging around in case it took along time. Now I'm just hanging on til 12 weeks until I can tell everyone. SHHHH, DS is our first I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you for May, at least if you wait til May you can have a Spring baby and Summer maternity leave!!

We've got two car seats for DS as DH drops him off and I pick him up from the childminder. We had to get one as soon as he was sitting as he is such a big baby. A friend lent us a 0+ as he was out of his first seat in no time. One is the Priory XP and the other the Mamas and Papas protec they are both good but I think he is happier in the Protec as it is a bit higher and he gets a better view. He has discovered shouting and now shouts at the cats, dogs, us, other children in fact any thing that excites him.

donaldduck · 30/01/2006 21:09

I have one daughter. She has just started crawling and has me running around after her, thought I had plenty of time to childproof the house but not so.

SHHHH · 01/02/2006 09:36

welcome donaldduck!!! our home is the same!!! we had to get the gates up pretty quick! feels more like a zoo now!

booge how are you feeling? you must be around 6 weeks ish..? Yeah hopefully things will go well for us when we decide for number 2, I agree with the spring baby side of it but I am now a sahm so don't have the worry of maternity leave etc!! Yippee! Mmmm wonder if dh will give me just as good maternity benefits..? . Bless him he gave me freedon of the joint account yesterday to go to the trafford centre shopping !! I have 2 girls nights out this month which is probably the most I have ever been out since I was expecting!!! He does look after me!!

how is everyone ? BTW logic, i haven't forgotten you, i will reply asap i promise !!! xx

Maddison · 01/02/2006 23:27

Welcome DonaldDuck Once they start crawling you need eyes in the back of your head

Well I had DS2 weighed yesterday and he's 24lb 5oz! I also had the HV take a look at his chin because it's really red, dry and rough, Iwasn't sure if it was exzema (sp?) but she said it was just from dribbling. And STILL no teeth yet, which I'm really quite pleased about with still bfing. Anyone know how to cope with it when they do have teeth?

DH and I have been talking about ttc for our final child as he is having an operation in March which the doctor said was 'like having half a vasectomy', DH thinks we should start trying now. Having said that though we have just bought an X Box 360 so sex may not get a look in

SHHHH · 02/02/2006 20:28

Maddison !!! Whooooo another you may try soon! God I get so excited !!!! Good luck . We are also an xbox360 household and I know what hold it has over our dh !!!

Mmm coping when teething...I can't say how you cope, I think you just DO!! DD uses calpol teething gel and hates the bonjela one and we also use the boot's alternative teething chrystals. A god send imho.
But saying that dd has never really been a problem and so far we have only know about it because teeth were there . God I have tempted fate now I know!!
I had heard that teething later on is good as babies are able to give you more of an idea when they are in pain and where unlike babies when months old iykwim...Not sure how true....

Missblossom · 03/02/2006 07:52

Hi all,
thought it was about time that I posted again I made it a new year resolution to post more often and so far have only managed twice and one of them was about someone elses dead cat.

I know what you mean about the 360 DH wants one and so does my eldest boy. So far I havent given in. Its bad enough with the ps2 or the pc, we might aswell just disapear im sure he wouldnt notice.

Congrats to those that are pg and good luck to those that are ttc, I am soooo jealous, Im getting really broody loads of little babies around me, but I think that if I had another one I would end up in a wheel chair because of my back. Its really bad at the mo and Im swallowing painkillers like bloody smarties. Im sure I rattle.

I havent had Luca weighed for about 6 weeks but just before xmas he was 23lb. Hes not crawling yet, but I think thats due to the fact thar we have laminate flooring, so he slides himself along either on he belly or he bum shuffles. Still it gets the desired effect he can get to every corner of the room nothing is safe. But also he can pull himself up on the furniture, and then gets stuck and has to be rescued only to do it again 2 minutes later.

He has got 6 teeth all came thru with no problems, apart from rivers of dribble, lol.He is also very verbal makes loads of noise especially when your trying to watch something on tv and he can also open the tv unit doors and usually just sits there slaming them open and shut but twice ive found the dvd player on the floor. So that will have to be child proofed.

Maddison · 04/02/2006 22:39

WE HAVE A TOOTH!!!!!

Sorry for shouting, but they have been threatening to come through for ages! And it's only just through - but it's through I still don't know how I'll manage breastfeeding when it grows a bit more though, but I do have a packet of formula in, just in case

Good to see you MissBlossom, sounds like Luca is coming along nicely I'm glad that teething isn't giving him too much grief. DS2 also did the shuffling around on the floor and struggled to push himself up but once he got the hang of it there was no stopping him!

We went to my brothers house the other day and my niece (who is 6 weeks older than DS2) couldn't leave him alone! She was smothering him with kisses and cuddles, and he just let her!! It was so cute to see!

And I found out on Friday that DS1 supposedly kissed one of the girls in the cloakroom at school, although he denies it He doesn't even like kissing me anymore... sob...

matthewsmummy · 07/02/2006 13:11

welcome donaldduck

congartulations to booge thats lovely news, you must be so excited.

i can safely say im not broody at all, think if i had a better pregnancy i might not be so anti baby number 2 but ill think ill wait a good 3 years before having another. me and dp are only 19 so no rush for us. good luck to those who are trying or will be soon. fingers crossed for you

i also have a crawler he started of rocking but has now started really crawling, but i think he'd much rather be on his feet, he tries to walk off all the time and he's puling himself up on everyhting already but then gets stuck and whinges for me to help him down only to get straight back up there again bless him.

no teeth yet though, wish they'd hurry up and come through though. we have had 3 nights of him sleeping through now from about 10pm till 7am ish, but i still find it hard to sleep as so used to being woken up.

we think its an allergy that he has that makes his rash worse, were not sure what hes allergic to yet but think it may be either tomatoes or egg. so were trying to find out which but its not that easy.

well hope everyones well and all babies are ok.

donaldduck · 07/02/2006 22:27

Sounds like you have all been really busy. I think dd crawling is just the kick that my weight loss may have needed, it feels like I am doing loads of excerise.
I will be embarrassed on dd behalf here, but I would really appreciate some feedback. dd still suffers from fairly bad wind, I have spoken to some friends that have had children and their children were basically clear of wind by this stage. How are your 9 monthers doing?

booge · 09/02/2006 11:39

Hi Everyone,
Good luck to everyone ttc, more babies, fantastic!
The misnomer that is morning sickness started yesterday, I was just telling DH that I hadn't any symptoms then I was hit by a wave of nausea. Did anyone try the MorningWell tape before and if so did it work? Daniel is getting everywhere and is so close to crawling I think I need to organise stair gates and a bit of child proofing. Did anyone get an eight month check up? They don't do them here but there is a space in his red book for one.

I'm not a 360 widow but Star Wars Battlefront on the PC means I'm never awake when DH comes to bed or at least not until he wakes me up at some God forsaken hour

booge · 09/02/2006 11:42

I meant to say DonaldDuck, DS is a very farty boy (takes after his Mum ) and still burps after feeds but it doesn't cause him any discomfort.

SHHHH · 09/02/2006 13:36

hi all...donaldduck dd is also a very windy baby !!! Even worse over the last week as she has been ill....my night out on fri was cut short but dh calling me to say dd had been sick. That was an understatement!!! It was everywhere! Anyway all seemed okish until sunday when she had a temp of 39degree. A trip to a&e and 8 hrs later and we were all home. DD has got gastroenteritus . (sp?) Only for me to start being sick sunday night and dh planned to look after us mon but he's started with it himself..!!! FFS we seem to pick up everything and dd doesn't even go to nursery!
Oh well hopefully we are on the right side.

Maddison congratulations on the tooth !!!!!!!! At last !!! .

SHHHH · 10/02/2006 21:01

Hows everyone doing?

Maddison · 10/02/2006 21:43

DS2 isn't too bad on the wind front (unlike me - DH says I can burp like a man ) He has been sick a couple of times after meals but I usually find him sitting in it a while afterwards eeewwww!

He hasn't bitten me while I'm bfing him since getting his teeth, which is quite a relief, so the formula is still on standby I'm sure it will come in handy though once he gets his top teeth!

About the morning sickness Booge, I haven't heard of the tape you mentioned but people have said that lemon sweets, ginger biscuits and rich tea biscuits worked for them, hope you get some release from it soon

Shhh, sorry to hear about your familys sickness, hope you all feel better soon.

RubyMummy · 11/02/2006 14:41

Hi all May mums - glad to read all babies are doing well. (Hope you all remember me - I was Holly290505!) Life is been very hectic with one thing and another so I have been more of an MN lurker than a poster.

Ruby is the light of our lives still, despite being on the move very early which is very tiring. She started to roll at 4 mths and crawling at six. She's just about walking now but still needs a little help. She's only just 8 months old - her shoes are tiny!!

She has 2 teeth and loves food (especially anything sweet so we struggle convincing her to eat her veg before the fruit) Finger food is going down well now too.

Our biggest problem is sleep. No matter how hard we try she seems to never tire! She refuses to sleep until 11pm no matter what and then needs settling 6 or seven times a night. She doesn't feed at night anymore which is one good thing. Apparently I didn;t sleep through until 18mths myself so maybe its my just desserts...?

Any ideas much appreciated (I can't do controlled crying because she stands up and can't get back down again)

Glad to see everyone still here - I hope things are looking better for Brighteyes soon.

XXX for babies

LittleB · 13/02/2006 14:43

Can't believe Ruby is walking already. DD was 9 months yesterday, she will take tentative steps when I'm holding her hands and loves standing and bouncing but doesn't seem interested in crawling at all, although she wiggles along a bit . Don't know how you can try to help her settle. DD went through a phase of not settling and waking alot after teething and a cold (2 teeth now) I didn't leave her to cry alone, I stayed in the room whilst she grumbled - I went to her when she cried - leaving longer periods between going back to her and settling her and she's sleeping through again now. But I don't know if that would work if she stands up.
Donald duck, dd is also pretty windy at both ends, but she is less windy than she used to be, thankfully - although I'm sure she saves it until there are other people around .
Hope you are all recovered now shhhh, and everyone else is well too.

donaldduck · 13/02/2006 21:56

dd has a cold, nose running pretty miserable, almost reminds me of dh when he has one.

uwila · 15/02/2006 12:19

Hi everyone. It's been ages since I've typed here. We have 4 teeth (top 2 just breaking/broken through). The lazy boy has JUST learned to sit unaided (at 8 1/2 months) and crawling is hopefully in the distant future. But, knowing my luck he's probably mastering whilst I sit at work.

So, what kinds of finger foods does everyone's baby eat now? I haven't done much with finger foods but nanny thinks I should. But, I just don't see how he can chew without back teeth.

LittleB · 15/02/2006 12:36

Oh dear, dd is now officially chubby, she's 21 1/2 lbs and has hit the 91st centile, she's put on 2 1/2 lbs in 5 weeks! My HV has said I need to keep an eye on her but she should loose it when she starts crawling/walking. I think she's just cuddly, she's having the right amount of milk and just likes food!
For finger food she has breadsticks, biscuits, rusks (sugar free), rice cakes, bread/toast and butter, cheese and fruit - like banana - not all on the same day though! I've tried things like chicken pieces, but I think she needs her top teeth too to manage them. As a special occaisional treat she's had chocolate fingers, but they need to make them with only half covered in chocolate as it all sticks to her hands and she hasn't worked out how to suck this off yet! They're all things that she chews and sucks and she always leaves the end, she seems to enjoy them though, although sometimes she just plays with it. But if you don't think he's ready don't rush it, he's your ds not your nanny's. I hope you don't miss him walking etc, I guess you just have to try and encourage him to do new things when you're with him, I try and do this with dd but I only work 24 hours a week.
Hope everyone else is ok.

logic · 15/02/2006 17:50

Hope your dd is better now Shhhh. There are a lot of sickness bugs going round.

Rubymummy, our dd is usually wide awake until 11pm too, maybe they are party animals :-) We give her Ready Brek before bed to try and get her to sleep through.

Dd has started to propel herself backwards now which looks ridiculous but there are still no teeth. As for finger food, she loves cheese, toast, hot cross buns, flapjack, anything. She mamages to chew them ok. She always wants her own spoon at mealtimes now and can get it into her own mouth. I remember ds being the same.

We're having a bit of a crisis half-term, ds has chicken pox, poor kid. I expect that dd will get it next week.

OP posts:
LittleB · 15/02/2006 20:08

Oh Logic poor ds, I hope dd doesn't get it too. LOL at dd moving backwards, my dd has just learnt to stick her tongue out today and has been doing it non stop since lunch time, they do some funny things. mind you she just laughs back at me when I laugh at her!
