Uwila, I honestly don't know how you do it! Would it be possible for you to walk to work? I don't exercise (unless you count weightlifting DS2 ) but I do walk quite a lot, wherever possible really.

Report
uwila · 07/01/2006 08:04

Yep, impossible to walk to work. The reason I leave at 6:45 is to beat heavy traffic and get a parking space at work. Also, it's about 10 miles away (I think???)from my house.

Right, I'm just back from John Lewis where I checked out the exercise equipment. They have an adjstable reebok step for £39, which seems rather expensive for a big piece of plastic. But hey it will save me a fortune in gym membership and babysitting. So this is plan. Trouble is I'm sooooooo poor this month. So it may have to wait until February first. And I need to organise a dvd player and telly in my bedroom, which I dare say will cost a wee bit more than the step. I might just steel the ones from the living room, but the rest of the family might not be very happy with that... but they'll live.

Okay, so who's in on this weight loss / exercise / diet mission? Should we start a post natal due in may weight loss thread. And we can all support each other?

omg uwila, that is such a long day! You can't possibly fit any exercise in! The only exercise I do apart from the continuous skivving around the house for the kids is the salsa class on a Friday evening. It's only an hour a week but very intensive.

Bl**dy typical isn't it? The week I start the diet, I get my first period for 7 months. All I want to do is huddle under a duvet and eat chocolate...

I've started letting dd have finger food, cheese, toast, etc.. and she loves it :-)

Bought a new car seat for ds today (Britax Trio) so dd is going to have his old one. She's just under the weight limit but her legs are over the end of the group 0 seat so I think it's dangerous.

I think a weight loss thread would be really good, uwila. We don't want to bore the mums on here who aren't dieting with our obsessing over food.

Don't want to alarm you logic but think the Trio was one of Which?'s no nos. here

Thanks, it is on the don't buy list which I didn't know.

Problem is, ds is massively underweight, he is off the scale, way under the blue line underweight because he is such a fussy eater. We were so worried that we got the HV team and the District nurse to look at him and they told me not to worry and that he's totally healthy and fine.

Unfortunately, this makes buying car seats a tremendous nightmare because he is never anywhere near the weight limits for the seats. He won't be fitting into the 4+ seats for literally years although he is getting too tall for the group 1 seat. We have to go for a compromise 9mth-11years seat of which there are about 3 to choose from!!! We had a really good search around all the shops that sell car seats and it was the best one we could find. It seemed really sturdy and dh is paramoid about correctly fitting them. He is currently in the shop buying another one because we need two. I'll have to have a chat with him later. We might end up taking them back. Thanks for the info, Tinker.

The 2nd stage car seat is a nightmare, I think. Unless you have ISOFIX in both cars, there is only one other recommended seat. But if that doesn't fit one/both cars, a compromise has to be reached somewhere. Just say it doesn't fit, sure they'd change it.

Logic, I'm considering buying the Trio as well. I was going to get the high back booster seat for DD (who will bw 3 in March) and forward facing car seat for DS who is looking increasingly squished in the infant backward facing one. The thing with it for DD is that I don't fancy buying yet another car seat in a year and the trio will last her for several years. Surely it must meet some safety regulations to even be on the market.

Oh, and no way am I paying for ISOFIX.

Hi Uwila, after much thought we have decided to stick with the Trios that we have bought anyway. Our initial instinct was that they are really sturdy and although the Which report is worrying, it didn't suggest any alternatives for someone of ds' height and weight (probably because there aren't any!). We've looked at the 4-11 age group seats and thought they looked incredibly flimsy and as you say, the Trio will last them for years because it becomes a booster.

Shall I start a weight loss thread then? Well done Myermay, that's a fab start :-)))

Great idea about the weight loss thread, I've signed up for a healthy eating course with Sure Start, am just waiting for the letter to say when it starts, so I'll join the weight loss club then (seeing as I don't actually know what I weigh!) DS1 will be at school and DS2 will go into a crech which is provided so I will be kid free for an hour a week I can't remember what it feels like to not have a single child with me, I'm actually quite worried about it.

Congratulations on the weight loss Myermay, I think when you see results like that it gives you a great incentive to continue

So is anyone else's baby still waking up for a 2am night feed and nappy change? It's most nights in our house now.

Mothercare are having a sale on atm, got a gorgeous pair of embroidered jeans for dd in there on Saturday.

I am not surprised you are fuming, myermay. Boys are so fab :-)) I suppose a bit of me is sad that ds will never have a brother but I have two healthy kids who are squabbling already so I have a lot to be thankful for. I have had people say to me "ooh a girl AND a boy, how lucky" and I just stare at them in complete bafflement tbh! I find it a very odd thing for someone to say.

Myermay, I hear things like that too. I have one girl and one boy... but what is truly odd about this is that it came from their grandmother.

Oh well, mother's are bonkers sometimes.

Speaking of my lovely boy, where is everyone on feeding. We still eat the smooth pureed stuff. I tried giving him the chunkier stage two last week and he was havin' none of it. Trouble is the little puree jars aren't enough food for my eating machine.

Well, today we took the plunge and dd is now in her brother's old car seat! She wasn't too sure about it at first but once she realised she could see everything and everyone she had a grin on her face that wouldn't come off!! It was so cute. She also tried the big seat in the supermarket trolley for the first time too. Much the same reaction but this time with non-stop burblings!!
Part of me thinks its all a bit sad though - she's growing so fast. Almost as if I want her to slow down a bit...

myermay I don't know how you managed to not say anything!!! I would be ..!!

Tinker thanks for the which report on car seats. I am glad that the one we chose was one at the top of its group. We have got the Brittax Isofix due. Both DH & I have isofix fittings in our cars so it made sense although dd only really travels in my car. It retails at £190 and tbh although the price was shocking we wanted an isofix due to safety rating.Myermay the isofix fittings are usually standard in new cars...they are like 2 brackets that are fixed into the car and the car seat fixes to it. You can't really see then and they are meant to be a lot safer than the seatbelt sysle of car seat. Reason being because with a seatbelt there is the issue of fitting incorrectly ie the belt may be too loose. But with isofix you kind of slot the chair/seat in like a seat belt into its buckle..not sure if I am making sense...

Well logic, dd is not waking for nappy change and night feeds but has got into the habbit of waking during the night wanting to play or her dummy. Not sure how to stop this..?? Anyone any ideas..??? DD is still in with us so not sure if thats a good or bad thing. I thought about putting her into her own room but thought if she wakes during the night then its easier to see to her when she is next to me...iykwim...

Well I have started my diet (along with dh) and I have lost 4lb in a week. Not really following a diet but eating healthy and trying to cut out bread, potatoes, rice etc. Eating low fat foods and TRYING to limit/cut out my chocolate. How hard is this..??? Pregnancy I ate it daily but now I have to cut it out ... MAYBE I should have a baby again !!!!
Looks like I am not the only one who is broody from this thread!!!

On the washing issue..I agree...I am sure my neighbours are putting their washing into my basket!!! Will I ever reach the end..?!

Myermay, thats awful of her, she should be grateful that she has children and grandchildren. I really didn't mind what I had and was very happy with dd. People have been suggesting since she was 2 days old that we should have another to keep her company and that a boy would be nice. But I think we are just having her, our family feels complete as it is.
Uwila, I can't believe how long your working days are, I don't know how you cope!
Logic, dd doesn't wake for a feed at night but keeps waking since she's been ill (she only has a slight cough now). She used to sleep straight through and would normally go to sleep on her own, but now wants to be picked up and help all night and keeps waking up whenever you try and settle her. A couple of times we've given up and had her in with us - which we did when she was ill, and didn't want to do now she's better but when you've been trying to settle her fo over an haour at 2 in the morning and you have to get up for work it seems the best thing to do. We don't want to leave her to cry alot as this starts her coughing and then she's sick and we all have to wake right up to clean her up. Anyone got any ideas about how we can get her back to her old routine?

I've not posted for a while, new house, going back to work ect all got in the way.
DD2 is a lot happier now & happiest when eating. She eats anything she can get her hands on,paper being a favourite.

She is sleeping a lot better now, goes happily to bed at 7pm & goes through until about 7.30-8am.She is sitting up now & adores playing with her big sister. She is getting her 1st tooth,we can feel it but can't see it yet.

I'm trying to gain weight, not lose it.I weigh about the same as I did before DD1 was born now.Another half stone or so wouldn't go amiss.

My New Years Resolution is to get this house renovated & sort the garden out.I'm going back to college next week to train as a garden designer & am going to use our garden as my project work.

DD2 has her 7 month check next week.I'm not looking forward to it as the H.V's always seem to get you worried about something.
