Here we go, was going to write something lovely and meaningful, but I'm not very good at it so I'll leave that to someone else.....

LaylaandSethsmum · 23/01/2006 22:27

Yes have read the thread. My experience with DD was pretty awful, 1st baby , long labour and stroppy midwife who didn't really want to teach me to breast feed at all really. Luckily got discharged next day and post natally midwives were good. Had home birth this time and midwives much more encouraging!!!

anyamy · 23/01/2006 23:57

hi goldenoldie-i met you in tchibo...lots of sleeping babies! i know my son isn't a nov 05 baby but i thought i'd say hello.

beartime · 24/01/2006 05:15

Rodeo, we're 8hrs behind, so 5pm your time is 9am our time.

Busy, can you send me another e-mail? My one's expired!

9% humidity here today so had to do nasal aspiration on ds, and a bit of blood came out - is that OK?

Found the nappy nippas and his bottom looks so much nicer now - not all shrivelled up and red!

What age do they start not being able to sleep everywhere? I'm wondering if its now....?

Enthusia · 24/01/2006 08:24

Hi all

Sorry it has taken me so long to catch up, since going away last week I have a mountain of washing so high it has snow on the top. Let alone the paperwork and housework etc!!!!!!

Twinkle and Diege, it was great meeting up with you, Joshua and Liberty are lovely. Loved Libby's outfits especially the leg warmers and Joshua is a real smiler!!! I hope Scarlett isn't asking for too many pictures to be drawn for her now and has come to the idea that friends can be shared. She is a really lovely child Diege and I enjoyed her company as well as your own!!! The cake WAS lovely by the way. Who ate the rest of it????

ChaCha - haven't had any whitestuff but had a bit of red, even a little blood yesterday on nappy, like from a graze but couldn't find anything on him (then got to close and he peed all over me!).

We are doing fine. Sam is now deciding he doesn't want his 6am feed and is going through from his 9pm feed to 9am. So he has gone from eating more than the HV said to less as he is missing out a whole bottle. Mind you this is only the second day of this so things could change!

As ChaCha said for me the hv was very happy that he hadn't moved up anymore and had plateued and even mentioned feeding him more soon and weaning, so I completely gave up and decided to (as someone said) take everything with a mountain of salt! He is happy and that is all that matters in the long run!!!! Am feelng more confident about the bottle feeding as well, despite a rather nasty comment made by a women in a mothercare feeding room about 'this day and age' and 'bottles'!!!!!!

Welcome to Mummypinny, hope you are enjoying the thread, it does take a while to get used to things on here, just as long as you weren't looking for a picture of a cat when someone mentioned CAT, you'll do fine! Great name by the way! Hope Fern and Connor are sleeping now and giving you some nightime sleep!!! Sending some sleepydust for Connor now.

Right really better get on with something

Byyeeeeee

Enthusia and Sam 11 weeks tmrw.

babyonboard · 24/01/2006 08:26

morning all!
hope everyone and families are well,

i have holiday envy too! wish we'd been able to do more when i was pregnant..ah well.

we had a great night- oskar slept for 9 1/2 hours! the poor little mite was ravenous when he woke up, he's just had almost double his usual feed so i'm expecting to see some of that coming back up any minute, hehee

i had a lovely weekend too, we had a house full of people as all our best friends from sheffield came down, we did lots of cooking and drinking and strolling along the thames. shame we didnt get to see the whale before the poor thing died!

it's hard to believe we all have 2/3 month old babies now..where did all the time go!?

babyonboard · 24/01/2006 08:33

oh btw i got a scan on friday. i ended up in a&e on thursday evening as the blood loss became ridiculously heavy. they kept me in overnight on i.v antibiotics, and the scan was clear, except it showed a sore area on my uterus lining. the gynae said the 'steak' was possibly a bit of placenta that had remained attached, and when it came away it caused fresh bleeding.
it's stopped altogether now which is lovely after 8 weeks of constant bleeding!

oddly the nurses assumed oskar would be staying in with me!? (or maybe just hoped..hehe..he did get a lot of fussing over!)

goldenoldie · 24/01/2006 10:07

Anyamy - Welcome. Don't worry that you are not a November mum, we are a frendly bunch. Would be good to hear perspective of another mum of a toddler. Sorry - I've forgotten. How old is your boy? Lets do coffee again soon, I'm always in and out of Tchibo.

ChaCha - hope Zayn's boy bits are OK?

BOB - have you stopped bleading now? When did everyone else stop? Mine finished about 5 weeks after the birth. Anyone else but Nova had a 'period' yet?

Nova - are you enjoying your time off? I'll be right behind you when I get a bit of childcare sorted.

Are you sure you want to wean Natalie at 4 months?

Rodeo · 24/01/2006 10:27

Chacha, just read the bf thread and have left a couple of cheeky questions Hope I'm not escorted off by the scruff of the neck. Will prob attempt another more intellegent post later!

Oooh, there's was a right ding dong in the CBB house last night, cannot wait to watch it tonight!! I cannot stand George and Pete taking the moral high ground. My loathing of Barrymore has disipated this week and is now concentrated on that awful pair. I think Pete looks like Predator... they have the same mouth

Glad you're better now Steakpants

OP posts:
babyonboard · 24/01/2006 10:37

yep - bleeding stopped this weekend, though i'm still taking iron to try and recover.
thankfully the 'steak' was a one off incident, the doctor in a & e expected me to have kept it and brought it in- eek -i just flushed it in horror as soon as i saw it..hehee

golden - do you still have the unwanted travel cot i still haven't gotten round to buying one so am interested in collecting it if you do

also , a quick question for those with boys, please tell me what i am doing wrong with oskars nappies. he seems to end up with wee all up his back at least once a day. i've tried so many different nappy brands but its still happening.

browniechick · 24/01/2006 11:06

Hi All - had a better night with T last night, have put it down to not giving a bottle after his bath. If he has bottle then bath, he seems to have unsettled night. If has bottle after bath - things seem better!

Golden - I have had what I think was a period - well, bleeding stopped post birth at about 5 weeks, a couple of weeks after that I had a smaller period like bleed. Have assumed things are now back to "normal"? Dr seemed to agree at the 6 week check (which I had at 8 weeks!).

BoB - are you making sure that his willy is pointing down before you do his nappy up? I had a similar problem, until I learned that if his willy isn't point down, then the water cannon shoots everywhere and comes spilling out of the top and sides of the nappy in all directions!

Have a good day everyone.
Brownie

novadandypowder · 24/01/2006 11:50

Golden - The child minder can't do this week as she's covering for the other childrens nanny, but she's back next wednesday. Could really have done with her this week as DH didn't do the weekend and I am very tired.

Re: weaning - Natalie is a very hungry baby, and even though she is on hungry baby formula still wakes up for 2 feeds at night and needs feeding every 3 hours during the day. She's started taking the maximum amount it says to give on the tin to a 4 month old. Will discuss with the HV next week when I go to get her weighed again, but it's looking likely. Why do you question it?

Really enjoyed Memoirs of a Geisha yesterday, but it's quite a long movie isn't it? Not too sre about the cheesy ending though.

Ooo I could rant for hours about the behaviour in CBB, it's the source of much discussion in our house.

Enthusia · 24/01/2006 12:18

Nova - hv told me I will probably start weaning at 4 months too as Sam is hungry and is already showing sign of interest in food. She gave me a list of things to watch out for - one being not sleeping through the night - not looking forward to that again. Apparently the only reason the advice changed recently was becuase the world health organisation produced blanket advice after resreach in the 3rd world. In the 3rd world the water is not always clean and so babies being weaned before 6 months using the water to cook with became ill, whereas after 6 months they did not, so the WHO produced advice for everyone to wean at 6 months rather than 4 as babies can continue until 6 months on milk, but it is perfectly healthy to wean them before. Apparently in victorian times babies were weaned at 1 month and onto meat, and when I was a baby the advice was 2-3 months. I am actually looking forward to it.

Brownie - I have dreaded periods back again now - really heavy as well.

Bob - glad to hear you are on the mend.

Right better go.

babyonboard · 24/01/2006 12:27

nova and enthusia - it's looking like oskar will need to be weaned early too.
he's been on hungry baby formula for three weeks and is taking the recommended feed and then some every time.
i thought it was totally fine to give baby rice etc after 4 months?

i can imagine its pretty frustrating for them to be able to smell lovely food when all they get is milk. the other day dp was kissing oskar having just eaten a very rich chocolate puddinbg and his little nose was twitching at the smell i swear,, hehe

i'm of to my postnatal group in a bit, it's on sleep management today, which may or may not be useful, we shall see.
....thats if i can be bothered to get of my arse!hehe..i'm enjoying sitting here with sun streaming through the window listening to the cooing in the corner, hehehe.

babyonboard · 24/01/2006 12:38

....aaaaaand...

thanks browniechick, my mum already taught me that vital trick! i had most problems with huggies, they were rubbish! at the moment i'm using sainsburys perform and protect, which are slightly better.
i considered using disposable nappy liners as well, or maybe a waterproof wrap on top but that seems unneccesary and will just give the poor boy an even bulkier bum..hehehe..i must be doing something clueless somewherere!

babyonboard · 24/01/2006 17:42

why can't i c.a.t even though i subscribed in october, is it based on an annual year rather than 12 months from when you subscribe?

novadandypowder · 24/01/2006 18:12

Bob - don't understand what you mean - you can CAT at any time, nothing to do with subscribing??

Make sure you're spelling the name right - it's case sensitive.

goldenoldie · 24/01/2006 18:47

Nova - my boys have much more than the formula box suggests. According to that they should only be having 5 bottles a day. But they are taking 7 - 8 bottles a day! And we have been using hungry baby formula since leaving hospital.

I know the suggestion is to wean late rather than early these days - 6 rather then 4 months (all change from when I had ds1), so just wondered what made you make up your mind? Interested to know what your HV suggests?

Enthusia - thanks for the extra info. Very useful.

Blimey, based on the criteria of:

taking more then the recommended amount.
being interested in food, and
not sleeping the night

My boys should have been weaned from birth..............

Nova/BOB - thought there was a small charge to use CAT service now?

Londoner · 24/01/2006 19:46

Hi all

Not been on as computer playing up....
Well, looks like you're all talking about weaning, E has been v.hungry too and watching every bite that goes into my mouth, was thinking I might start offering her some little tasters very soon. Catch up soon, byeeeeeeeee.

Diege · 24/01/2006 20:45

Hi everyone . Have frantically tried to catch up on posts, not having been on since Staurday (serves me right! ). Just crept down stairs after having to do hour and half of controlled crying with dd2 (yes,Enthusia, your little mate Scarlett !!!). Kept going in at recommended intervals, but this seemed to make her worse. Finally calmed down, but am dreading this starting again in the night, just when we had it sussed. Feel for you Beks - it's a horrible feeling when they start at night, then wake the baby... . I always visualise Jo Frost (supernanny) at my side in her maroon aertex, whispering words of sympathy.Strangely it does help a bit .
On the sleeping bag front (a bit late I know!), I have ummed and ahhed about this with all 3 dds. I do use one, but put Libby in a bodysuit with long sleeves but no legs, and no vest. I then put a sheet over top and tuck in using rolled up towels like Brownie. The room is very cold (16ish), and when I check she seems lukewarm ish, though hands are always freezing! One thing I do remember is that as they get older, the sleeping bags stop them trying to climb out of the cot . They also do them for older children, but then you have the toilet problem mid-way through the night!
BOB: lol re: them assuming Oskar was staying with you . I would have been looking forward to my sleep...did you have a good one? (there I go again with my sleep envy - I remember once with dd1 that I even thought prison might be worth it, just to have uninterrupted sleeps everynight !!.
NO period yet here, was a tightwad and kept tampons from before I was pregnant, though probably disintegrated by now!
RODEO: agree about CBB. Pete is really sly and a real stirrer (sp?), though other times I love him. Actually sided with Barrynore last night when he told them to leave Chantelle alone. Didn't realise he's alternating wigs (durrrr, like they have hair dye in their budget!).
Enthusia/Twinkle: great seeing you both last week...really fancy another subway sandwich...I was a virgin before! Parties sounded fun, if a certainly blood-pressure inducing! BTW Twinkle, when do we get our share of the Euro millions you promised us ALL . Enthusia, the story of the tellytubbie badge is becoming a favourite for the girls...'tell us again about when...' You are part of the family now! (oh,and I ate the rest of the cake!).
Well, I've made up for my absence, so must get my tea!
A good night's sleep to all!
Diege and Liberty.

anyamy · 24/01/2006 21:22

golden, would be good to do coffee... shame i can't do the cinema but orson is too old! he is 2 &half.

Busyalexsmummy · 24/01/2006 23:50

beartime-i need your email addy again to send you anougher email

Enthusia-glad your feeling more confident about the bottles and its working out for you, people shouldnt be so quick to judge when they see bottlefeeders-for all they know it might be ebm(i know its not in your case, but what of it?!) well done!

BoB-retained placenta-eek, glad theyre sorting it out and it was a gd idea to get it checked out afterall, at least you can stop worrying.
As for boys-This being my second, i always check willy is down, and hold it down right up until the moment i flap the nappy over it, but i still have to completely change his clothes as he does wee everywhere every other day! i use pampers size 1 btw

blood loss-dont know what the hell is going on with me, have bled 3 times since alf was born(now 8wks) and dont know what was lochia and what(if) was a period??? confused!

nova-have you tried discrediting the tin and trying her with a bit more milk? i found when bottlefeeding alex, the tin is only a very rough guide, for his weight it said 5ozs, he was taking anything from 7oz-9oz at a time before he was satisfied!

For all those getting ready to wean IMO its one of the most dull/time consuming things i had to do with ds1, you spend hours preparing/mashing/pureeing and then they waste it/spit it out etc, i weaned ds1 quite early, but will be trying to hold out till 6-7months with ds2 as they can then go straight to finger food without arsing around making up purees, of course this is in theory, he may need it sooner, but im going to try and hold out as long as poss.
I think the temptation to wean asap is quite great with your 1st child as people strive to make the milestones and also peer pressure from relatives/friends/people with kids the same age.
My adivce for anyone whos going to start soon- "a little" is the key-its very easy to overfeed a baby when moving them onto solids (and obesity in infanthood leads to obesity in later life)(this is often why babies of 4/5/6months end up like little sumos!)

Not much to report here, might try to get to clinic for the 1st time tommorrow and have him weighed if i can get us all dressed and fed and ready by 3pm!

beartime · 25/01/2006 05:55

Brownie and BoB I have that prob with disposables too - I normally use cloth, but had to use disps some of the time over here so I used a waterproof wrap over the top and that was def. better. i'd rather put a wrap over than change his clothes all the time!

Busy thanks for the advice abt weaning - makes me want to hold out too! I know someone who's had 7 kids and weaned them all at 6.5 mths.

Cloth users, what do you do at nighttime? I tried folding another terry and putting it in as a pad but could hardly get his 3-6 mths sleepsuit on and he's not even 3 mths yet! Do I have to buy custom booster pads or will something else do?

Enthusia · 25/01/2006 08:14

Hi all

On the nappy front I find the only nappies that don't leak on Sam are the tesco's ones with pampers being the worst. He seems to wee all the time, when we have a naked kick-about in the evenings he wees 5 times in 15mins, and we are talking ALOT, completely soaks the towel, but the Tescos ones let him go all through the night - bloody heavy in the morning though!

Sam seems to be doing his sleeping in til 9 again, touch wood. Wonder how long this will last. He seems really refreshed after his sleep though and is always smiling when I go in. Evenings are turning into a nightmare though as he cries constantly when we try and eat. We usually do 6pm feed, play, naked kickabout, bath, our dinner, then 9pm his bottle and bed. The 9pm bottle and bed works out perfectly but after bath until his 9pm bottle he is restless and means that one of us needs to soothe him whilst the other eats and vice versa. Any ideas? We can't eat at a different time as DH doesn't get in from work til 7-9. Do you think moving bath to before the 6 feed might help? Or getting a swing and putting him in that whilst we eat, or something else, any advice?????

Diege and Twinkle I will be up your way again on the 9th and 10th of Feb. Not doing Manchester this time though, I think it is Warrington on Thursday 9th and Liverpool on Friday 10th don't know if you can or want to meet?! Sorry Scarlett was a little pickle last night. Loved the idea of supernanny providing support!!!! made me laugh.

Right better get on I suppose.

alfiesmum · 25/01/2006 08:40

Morning,
I also tried every disposable going with DS1, every type leaked at some point. All I can say is that using cloth with Oscar has been fantastic with I think only one leak so far (when I lost track of time in the morning and forgot to change him )but I wont start lecturing on the benifits of cloth as I will bore you to death

Beartime - I use bamboozles and the odd fluffle and have found they last fine on their own through the night without boosting. I have just ordered a fleece topped booster for £1.50 just incase. Sorry can't comment on using terries though.

I am very lucky that I have not had a period yet and didn't get them again till I stopped bf at 8 months last time with Alfie, so fingers crossed.
I have seen the doctor about having a coil fitted, and she kept saying that I couldn't have it fitted till my period returned and seemed quite concerned when I said that I haven't had one yet. She has now insisted that I do a preg test before its done Its been I right hassle with three appointments so far including having swabs done. What is everyone doing for contraception?

I am also going to wait as long as I can before weaning, Alfie was weaned at 4 months but agree that it is a right pain and they hardly take anything anyway! I am doing everything later this time, he is still wedged into his moses basket! He is growing so fast I want him to stay a baby for as long as possible!

Right better hurry up and get showered, I am going shopping at 10 and still have the whole house to tidy cos the estate agent is bringing someone round for a viewing in the afternoon!

Jess x

goldenoldie · 25/01/2006 10:37

Fantastic CBB last night. George is really losing the plot and Pete is a prize stirrer.

Bear - what a good idea to use a wrap over disposables. Might do that myself, although the nappy leaks are less frequent now.

AnyAmy - e-mail me on [email protected].

Agree with you Busy - weaning is a real faff till they can take finger food. I will hold out as long as possible. I'm v. lazy and would prefer to go straight from bottles to finger food too - unlikely I know.
