Hi all, another random post from me!

Beartime - I use cloth nappies but not terry so can't help you there. I have just seen your thread about washing poo from liners, I tend to find that the liner and nappy soaks most of the poo up so I don't rinse them first. I just put the nappies in the washing mashine, start the program with some napisan or similor then turn the machine off for a couple of hours to give them a good soak! this is normally enough to remove the stains. I also always wash at 60.

Busy - Oscars feeding pattern varies so much, I never clock watch and just feed when cries or is violently chewing his fist! he goes anything from 1/2 to 4 hourly. It depends on what we are doing. At home he tends to feed more than if I'm out and about shopping etc.
Would it also be possible to send me an invite please - [email protected] thanks.

Hope everyone else and babies are ok

Hi All, well, we've had an eventful weekend. Friday was the first night Thomas went in his big cot (having outgrown the moses basket already!). He went to bed around 7pm, and didn't wake up for a feed till 4am which I was well impressed by, as I was only on night feeds till 2am, at which put dh takes over at weekends!!!!!
We haven't seemed to mind going into the cot at all - hasn't batted an eyelid! Think having had the moses basket in the cot for him to sleep in at night might have helped?
Not using blankets either - am using a baby sleeping bag - marvellous invention! Especially as T likes to kick about in the night (especially when straining!!) so the covers no longer come off!
Anyone else got their lo in the cot yet? T is only 8 wks old - it seems a little early, but he is such a big boy, that the moses basket is far too small reall!
Busy - any chance you could invite me into the yahoo group?? [email protected]
Thanks
Hopefully it is the last day with any building type work tomorrow - jsut the sparky coming to finish his bits off!
Hope you are all well - speak later
Brownie.

goldenoldie · 22/01/2006 14:54

Brownie - mine have been in cot since birth. Did not bother with moses baskets, knew they would only be in them 5mins. In the last week they have been in two seperate cots, instead of sharing one. I use sleeping bags too - do worry they can get overheated in them tho. At least with blankets they can kick them off if they get too hot.................

ChaCha · 22/01/2006 15:33

Hello everyone. Hope you are all having a good weekend. Weather has been pretty good here for a change. Does make me feel motivated - can't wait for the summer.

Busy - Well done. You seem to be doing v.well with your driving lessons. Hopefully you'll be behind the wheel by the summer. Driving instructor sounds great too. Good luck!

Beartime - How's things in the US? Totally agree with you on the feeding time. I was told the same at the hospital and life has definitely become a lot easier now that I'm not stuck to the chair for hours on end .. nowadays 25-45 minutes suffice him until his next feed (which are appx every 2 hours) but it's great. I was really getting fed up with what I thought were feeds lasting for up to an hour and a half. The nurse at the hospital did look at me like I was exaggerating/a bit nuts when I told her that. Can now see why! Haven't experienced such dreams but do get paranoid about who cares for/holds DS. A friends 8mth old grabbed his hand on Friday night and I was all protective also told DH to 'be careful' when he was changing him earlier and was also reminded that he is his father!! Whooops...

Alfiesmum - Often wonder how you are. It's nice to see you post again

Browniechick - Our DS used to sleep in the bed with us or on sofa with me etc.. but as of late he's been in his moses basket. He would never go down in the cot (although slept fine in one in the hospital) so we just stick with the basket by the bed. I think I will try putting the basket in the cot as you mentioned thus making the transition easier.

Golden - Interesting. I hadn't thought that they could become too hot and of course, unable to kick sleeping bag off as they could with covers. Glad you mentioned that.

Poor whale btw! Very sad.

Bye for now x

browniechick · 22/01/2006 16:01

Chacha - T has been in moses basket in cot since birth - definitely think this has helped with transition to big cot, he still has the same outlook as he did - just more space to thrash about in (think he was waking himself up when smacking the side of moses basket with fists!). You are right - they can't kick the sleeping bag off, so I guess could over heat - but could equally get too cold with balnkets kicked off!! There is never an easy solution. Have opted for SB as best option since T thrashes about a lot, and then ends up sleeping with legs slightly in the air!! So I know he won't get too cold, if it starts to get too warm, then will leave vest off and just put him in sleepsuit I guess. But for now at least, he seems happy enough.

Anyone else just started to get a touch of the colic? T has just begun to scream the house down after certain feeds at particular times of the day!! Am trying Detinox in the bottle, infacol before feeds and gripe water after (NOT all at the same time I hasten to add!! But am trying each for a period of time to see if I get any different success with each one).

Talk later
Brownie

ChaCha · 22/01/2006 16:19

Hi Brownie,

You are right, no easy solution. See both sides.

Z had colic for a while, a few weeks back. Was awful. Screaming round the clock. Don't think the infacol really helped to be honest. Anyhow, as soon as it came it went. DS seems a different person, back to happy little content baby as he was from day one. He seems to be suffering again though, has been since yesterday afternoon. It wakes him up when he goes down and so I end up with a very over tired, grumpy little baby. I hate to see him cry like that. Holding him up straight works for a while as well as some bouncing. I couldn't use the gripe water before but may try some now if it gets any worse.
Horribe isn't it?

novadandypowder · 22/01/2006 20:42

we didn't have any problems moving Natalie into her cot either - we did it over xmas so she would have been about 10wks old. It may have helped that we were putting her in it during the day to look at her mobile so she was used to the location/smell/feel of it.

Regarding gettting too hot in sleeping bags, we get round this by using the thinner summer sleeping bags. I like to keep the nursery quite warm, (if I'm going to be sleeping in there I don't want to be freezing my butt off and I find 16-18oC too chilly), so it's never below 20oC, and we put Nat in a sleepsuit and a 1 tog sleeping bag which seems to suit her fine.

I think wednesday night was just a fluke as she's back to random waking again, but I'm still not letting her into bed with me so I'm hoping it will stop by next weekend. She seems to be getting hungry again at night despite getting a good feed during the day, so I think we'll be weaning at 4 months (which is only 3weeks away!!!!)

I'm so happy for other people to hold my baby, if anyone happens to have a spare pair of arms I thrust her into them. I also try to leave DH with her for some of the weekend so they can get to know each other a bit better. Think he gets a bit annoyed when I hover around him, so I try to go out.

mummypinny · 22/01/2006 22:16

Mine are still in their cribs in our room and their moses baskets downstairs but have started putting them in their big cots for small periods while I am there to look at their mobile. I picked up from one post that the other twins (Goldenoldie) are coselpt. I have never done that mine have always been seperate even in hospital (although I had to request that!). I think someone asked me that question before and I forgot to answer it - sorry. I have heard that the sleeping bags are good but the health visitors hate them, although they do seem to hate everything. I think it is becasue of the risk of over heating - but then I think as mums we are all obsessed with that anyway.

Busyalexsmummy · 22/01/2006 22:39

beartime-thats great in theory, but he wont take his dummy if i take him off the boob, and also i think he is actually feeding as when he comes off, he does have milk in his mouth/dribbling down his chin

Alfies been in a cot since birth, as we co-sleep "sidecar"(for those that dont know what i mean, its co-sleeping where the cot side slides down and the cot is up against the bed) and ive not had any problems with that. We had to move alex out of a moses at 6wks as he cept flinging his arms out and waking himself up. I use a blanket to swaddle alfie otherwise he flings his arms around and wont settle(i also had to do this with alex until he reached about 9months if IRC)

tried feeding alfie myself until 10pm yesterday, mangaged to settle him, then at the midnight feed gave him a 4oz of formula, but he woke up at 3.30am so have reverted back to 2 formula feeds again today as dp's on earlies this week and i cant be done with sleep deprivation[tired emoticon]

Hey-were going to be in a magasine-Practical parenting!! in the "pregnancy memoirs" section, got interviewed for it when alfie was about 3 wks old and finally have photographer coming down to glasto from london on friday to shoot some pictures! eeek have to ring up beauty place tommorrow and see if i can get booked in for friday to have facial+make up done! lol
we'll be in the April issue that comes out at the beginning of March! lol, hope i dont look a state!

well, best go, L x

Rodeo · 22/01/2006 23:44

Quick post before bed!

BAM - How exciting!! Will deffo be buying it! April you say? You MUST remind us to get it nearer the time! LOL at your driving lessons 'ropey' - haha! My names Annie BTW.

Nova - 3 weeks til Nat's 4 months?! Is that right? I keep losing track of how many weeks Jess is, think she's 14 or 15 tomorrow?! I do feel sorry for her though when we're all eating (esp. when we're having sunday din!), the closest she's got is a slurp of Calpol! Which she loves BTW

Is anyone watching Child of our Time? I think it's really interesting. The children are lovely, felt sorry for William's brother though! Also caught the last half of Antony W-T on My Childhood, never really liked him but after watching that I felt sorry for him. It was quite sad

Also really news about the whale. I heard on Sky news yesterday they had found a dead baby whale or dolphin in Putney (in the river obviously) but not heard anything about that since.

Went out on a girls night out last night which was good fun. Has anyone tried to bluetooth anything whilst in a crowded pub? Tried it yesterday with my new phone, clicked onto 'find new devices' (is anyone still with me?!) and it came up with about 30-40 other phones! Some names that appeared on my phone were Stuntcock, David Hasselhoff, a couple of Sexgods! Men and their toys eh?

Right, off to put some tumble-drying in, another load on and then a bit of supper and bed! Night x x x

beartime · 23/01/2006 05:16

Alfiesmum - thanks for the info abt the nappy liners, I will try that.

Brownie - mine'e been in cot since birth. i use the method of tucking him in with two rolled up towels either side so the blankets don't come untucked - and they never have

ChaCha - thanks for making me feel a bit happier about not being the only over-protective one! The US is fine - I'm not enjoying it terribly though because its such a hassle taking Caleb everywhere everyday and thinking about feeding, sleeping etc. I never thought I'd see the day when I was complaining about eating out so much!! It's sunny, which is nice. And I've discovered if I gop to someones house I can't put him in another room to sleep cos he wakes up and cries because he doesn't recognise it i s'pose. But he seems to generall sleep pretty well around noise.

Brownie - mine has started to scream at some feeds too - have no clue why! And then afterwards he smiles and laughs and sleeps fine! It has helped to look at what i'm eating tho - I linked a lot of episodes with chocolate UNFORTUNATELY

Nova - I can't believe you are wanting to let other people hold him! I always inwardly scream 'get away from my baby!' and then smile nicely and hand him to them!

Busy - i don't know what to say with the milk thing - but I think if I were you I would still try taking him off at 45 mins-hr and see if he goes between feeds.

alfiesmum · 23/01/2006 09:08

Rodeo - very of your girls night out, I should really arrange a night out but it always seems so much effort to leave the kids for five minutes. Why is it that men can just get up and go at a moments notice but women need to plan in advance with detailed instuctions left regarding feeding, bedtime, how to change nappy etc

you can tell who does the child care in our house

DH has also just booked his week long lads holiday for June. He keeps saying that I can go on a girly hol if I like, as if he could cope on his on with a baby and toddler!
We are going to Mexico in May also for my sisters wedding, she decided last minute that she was getting married asap and only gave us a couple of months to try and find the money to go! Luckily my dad has stepped in and said he will give us £2k towards it otherwise I don't think we would have been going.

Busy - thank you for the invite, there are some lovely pictures on there, its very odd putting faces to names! put a couple of photos of my boys on there but got a bit confused with naming the photos - albam name, picture name, discription etc.

ChaCha - thank you, I am really touched you have thought of me.

Busyalexsmummy · 23/01/2006 11:08

morning all! went to bed last night with a stinking migrain-only started getting headaches since ive had alfie-have had loads compared to before him when id get maybe 1 or 2 a yr! also keep having dizzy/headspin moments too, so will mention it to dr at 8wk check on thursday....

excuse sp mistakes typing 1 handed, better go and try to get dressed uin a mo.....

Rodeo · 23/01/2006 11:47

Morning!

Well done on cashing in the favour BAM!

It is good to see you back Alfiesmum Mexico!! Wow! How brill! My friend took her 5 month old to the Cook Islands for her dh's brother's wedding and the baby was really good on plane which she was worried about. He slept through most of the journey, must have been the engines and motion.

Nova, just re-read my post, I wasn't questioning Nat's age, just amazed about how fast it's going

Beartime, good to see you on here too. How many hours behind are you?

Just taken Joe for his pre-school eye test, and his eye's are fine which is a relief given his family history!

And my Gran's just rang me to say she's bought the children some Premium Bonds each! Which is a lovely surprise on a cold Monday Morning

Have good days all x

OP posts:
ChaCha · 23/01/2006 11:57

Rodeo - LOL at the bluetooth scenario!!!

Alfiesmum - Lucky you!! A holiday to Mexico sounds Divine and your father is very generous helping out like that, what a great guy! Will hopefully get a look at your pics later today. So glad you are posting again.

Busy - Look forward to seeing you in the April edition then .. good excuse for some pampering anyway. You deserve it!

Bit worried myself about taking Z abroad. Has anyone else taken a 4 month old to a hot climate? Probably worrying over nothing.

Off to get domesticated x

Rodeo · 23/01/2006 12:13

I think as long as you keep them in the shade and lathered in cream they'd be fine. They'll probably enjoy not having to wear as much, feeling a bit free-er, instead of being togged up all the time! And who doesn't like the sunshine?! Oh I'd love a holiday, I was whistfully looking through the Travel Agents window yesterday. Hmmm, I wish!! Roll on Summer....

On a competely different subject, does anybody's washing machine eat baby socks?! Although never a whole pair, just one?!! I have so many odd socks, it's untrue!!

OP posts:
BEKsmum · 23/01/2006 13:10

Afternoon girls, am just popping on while Ben eats his lunch, he's off pre-school today as he has a wicked cough & cold, i'm not impressed as Monday is supposed to be my quiet day. Looks like he's also given it to Thomas so this may delay his jabs on Wednesday grrr.

Rodeo love your bluetooth moment. My machine eats 3 year old's socks, Ben has loads of odd socks that we usually end up making into sock puppets!
Great news about Joe's eyes you must have been relieved.

All this talk of holidays is no good, we're broke at the moment but my parents did give us £200 towards flights to theirs for whenever we want to take them - hooray, just need to save up some spending money now.

Busy will definitely buy the magazine I take we we're not getting any of the gory shots are we? That might be a bit too much information

Right best go as I can hear the cough monster getting in a state - non sympathetic mummy moment - aarrrggghh theirs nothing i hate more than coughing !!!!!

Hope you are all having a good day Beks

browniechick · 23/01/2006 14:08

Hi all - well we had a nightmare of a night last night - put T to bed at usual time (7pm ish) and would he settle? Would he hell!! He screamed and grissled on and off till 10.15pm. At which point he fell asleep and woke up for a feed at 5am. At least we got a good nights sleep, but it was so unlike him to do that - oh well, hopefully it's a one off??

Rodeo - my washer eats all socks!!! Father Christmas bought us a laudry bag thing for babies little items such as socks - now use this and odd socks are a thing of the past! Morrisons do them for about 80p I think.

T is asleep now, having a nice nap after his 1pm feed! Electrician is here finsihg off work, so will have to have my lunch when he's gone, as can't get to the fridge or freezer!!

Brownie

BEKsmum · 23/01/2006 17:06

Twinkle hope Sam has a great evening & you manage to get the pizza out of the carpet eventually!!!
Well done for surviving the party at the weekend.

Brownie that sounds like a normal night in our house Perhaps it's something in the name, my Thomas screams blue murder most nights but gives up at about 11pm then sleeps until 4am if I'm unlucky or 6ish on a good day!!! Beks

ChaCha · 23/01/2006 21:56

Any of you with little boys had any incidents of tip of willy being a little red and white stuff coming out? My MIL said her sons had it and was an infection, once babies were bathed had almost disappeared by morning. Z has it, taking him to clinic tomorrow, not really worried now but wondered if any of you had experience it.
Z is v.happy. Not unwell in anyway. Thanks.

Have washing coming out of my ears!

tessasmum · 23/01/2006 22:03

Ash certainly has the red tip thing though no white stuff!!! Just keeping an eye on it at the moment. Will be interested to hear what you are told.

BEKsmum · 23/01/2006 22:06

Chacha, had something similar with Ben, found it was a bit of a reaction to wipes, I now only use Johnson aloe vera ones, purely because neither of my boys gets nappy rash with them, where they have with otehrs that have been too wet. Have you tried reverting to warm water, no soap for cleaning his nappy area for a while? I find this normally sorts out any nappy issues. Hope that helps Beks

ChaCha · 23/01/2006 22:16

Thanks girls. We've given him a bath, cleaned the area, bit of salt too and will take him to be checked out as i'm going to get him weighed again tomorrow anyway. There's always something isn't there....just when you thought it was safe....

Guess this is only the beginning of many worries...

ChaCha · 23/01/2006 22:22

Oh, btw, there is a thread about a programme coming on channel 4 about b/f. Have any of you read it? Would like to know your thoughts.
