I'm up for a Trafford Meet any day, as long as it's not on a hospital day (still no word from the consultant. Hrmpf.)
Abi's developed another chesty cough. We've got a check-up tomorrow anyway with the GP, but I'm worried she's aspirating her feeds at night, as her reflux isn't constricted to around feed times - she just voms at will constantly.

Last night was her first night in a non-co-sleeping cot setup, as I found her UNDER MY PILLOW the night before. She's obviously so mobile now that she's squirmed onto the bed for cuddles and I woke up by hearing the muffled snuffles of her trying to breathe... So no matter how much she clawed at the bars of the cot to get to my face yesterday (she is very tactile and loves touching my face as she goes to sleep), I had to be evil mummy and persevere - it took her 15 minutes to settle and fall asleep, and then went on for a prompt 6 hour snooze. My arm died from holding it over the cot side to comfort her, but I'm very proud of her for actually falling asleep and me not giving in and taking her into our bed.

Somersaults · 16/01/2012 17:55

Caliphora you should be proud of both of you. It's too easy to give in to them because they're just too gorgeous!

I could do a Trafford Centre meet most days. Would be lovely to meet people and their babies.

hadak · 16/01/2012 18:06

Hi Ladies. Sounds like the diets are going well for you all. I haven't started yet although I second Poppet- being Dairy free helps. With DS1 I went to SW throughout my preg and afterwards. I lost my preg weight by week2 and found the diet really easy to follow.
This time Am currently about 3/4 stone lighter than pre preg weight but I have a VERY wobbly tum so I do need to exercise.
Little one has been a lot happier these last 2 days whch is just lovely as we were getting a bit worried about him. Think we will just wait and see how he goes. Still sleeping with us and tbh I haven't got the energy to worry about it too much and secretly enjoy him being in with us.
I have been out today for lunch with a friend from work and it was lovely to get away from baby talk all the time. I feel much better for a few hours away.
Hope you all have a lovely evening,

busyboysmum · 16/01/2012 20:08

Caliphora that's what I worry about with co-sleeping.

I could do a Trafford Centre meet most days as well. Would have to leave for school run about 2.30 though.

kate393 · 16/01/2012 21:33

Up for trafford centre meet, mon, tues or thurs best for me. starting exercise class on wed....eeeek! and diet started today! is anyone feeding hungry baby milk, have seen some recent comments about it....wondering whether E might be better on it...she is 6oz every 3 hours and was sleeping 10:30/11 ish til 6/7am although last couple of nights she's been up at 4/5am for feed?

Caliphora · 16/01/2012 21:52

Wow, 6oz every 3 hours! That's heroic!

Am I the only one getting addicted to Got to Dance?

TerrysNo2 · 16/01/2012 21:55

Hi everybody, sorry for not keeping up to date, we were visiting family all over christmas and new year (700 miles driving!) so not had much of a chance.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Happy New Year and I hope you are enjoying your lovely babies.

DD is 10 weeks now and is gorgeous, lots of smiles and giggles although she is still often unsettled/uncomfortable in the day, IIRC DS was the same but seemed to grow out of this at about 12 weeks so FX. She has stopped sleeping through and now wakes for a feed at 5.30am which for an ebf baby (last feed at 10.30) is great but I had gotten used to 7am for the past 6 weeks! That'll teach me Grin

Hope to catch up more soon.

kate393 · 16/01/2012 23:37

cali...got to dance...yes, love it! Although I'm also a sucker for dancing on ice (not personally you understand!) and today bizarrely found myself watching all the last series of one born every minute on 4od!!!!

busyboysmum · 17/01/2012 09:07

Morning all

Had a great night last night - Luke slept 9 till 4!! Had to wake him at 4am to feed him as my breasts felt like they were about to explode. Am hoping this is a sign of things to come, he was so cheerful and happy this morning as was I, amazing thing sleep.

He is now peacefully asleep in his pram and my friend is coming over for coffee, then the poor lad has his jabs this afternoon - I feel terrible for him he is totally unaware of what is to come. Bless. I always feed them when they are having their jabs and remember the happy sucking, then the jab going in, the mouth crumpling in shock, then the frantic sucking again to take away the pain. Not looking forward to it at all.

Hope everyone has a good day

Somersaults · 17/01/2012 09:34

busy sounds like a good night, well done!

Why is it that when everyone's posting about their sleep impovements we seem to be going backwards?! Last three nights C has been awake for food every 2.5 hours again. The last time she did this we were at the hospital and she was a newborn! As soon as she came home she was going at least four hours from three days old. Now she's seven weeks and feeding like a newborn again! I'm really hoping it's just a growth spurt and that she'll be over it in a few days!

We're off to our first Baby Sensory class this morning for a taster session and then home to sort through all the clothes to put away the ones she's grown out of and organise her drawers. DH spent all weekend building new drawers and putting up shelves in the nursery because she's got so many clothes that people have bought for her that we'd run out of storage space already!

TreacleSoda · 17/01/2012 09:43

Kate393 I am feeding hungry baby milk. Stace said that her friend had been told not to use it in any circumstances, which worried me a little, and I'm just waiting for her to speak to her friend to see if the friend's HV explained why it was a bad idea. But, I don't think it has any more calories or anything, I think its just a different type of milk protein which makes them feel satisfied for longer (well, I got that info from reading the box, so who knows!). Having said all that, I only put him onto that milk because my HV suggested it - he was taking 6oz of 'first' milk every 3 hours when he was only about six weeks old, and by about 9 weeks was starting to get to the stage where it didn't satisfy him, but his stomach couldn't physically take any more milk. His feeding has settled since putting him on the hungrier milk - he takes 5 to 6 oz every 3 to 4 hours now, and sleeps for about six hours at night. He is a big baby, but not podgy.

kate393 · 17/01/2012 11:15

Thanks treacle...I'm wondering if this change is down to a growth spurt as E is approaching 3 months this week. She's done 10:30/11 to 6/7am for a good few weeks now so getting the 4am feed back is out of the ordinary. This morn she woke at 4 but I didn't feed her immediately... Thing is she doesn't cry she just starts moaning and shuffling around but she keeps her eyes closed for ages so I left her and she didn't settle back to sleep but I didn't end up feeding her til 5:40. I prob could have left her and maybe she would have gone longer before feed but she's noisy in the room and was disturbing dh and feeding her gets her back to sleep straight away. Difficult to know what to do for best!

sasaunde · 17/01/2012 13:06

I love watching one born every minute now! Couldn't consider watching it a few weeks ago :) that girl with the red bikini was fab.
I have to watch tv with subtitles most evenings though due to Blake's continuing witching hour. I think his colic or whatever is improving but he just seems in the habit of having a serious shout now! Injections day today too, poor little soul.
He is bf and has never seen a bottle - found time to express once in 9 weeks and 1 oz in the doorbell rang! Sleeps regularly best case 11 - 6, worst case 1 - 5:30 and goes back to sleep after feeding once or twice so not too bad at all. (what a dangerous thing to say!)
I've been to baby yoga which is all about the coffee after, and also baby massage and local baby group - Blake seems to love socialising and gets bored at home..

Caliphora · 17/01/2012 16:35

Second round of jabs done. Another month then they'll leave her alone for a bit!
Starting to read up on weaning - so far not sure I'l be up for doing puréed foods. Abi already explores a lot with her hands and mouth so I'm convinced she'll blw easily.
Hopefully this will be her chance to shine!

Currently trying to sleep as dh has the day off and is baby wrangling... As if!

Staceroo · 17/01/2012 17:34

Hey just a quickie... treacle I sopke to my friend about the hungry baby milk she was told they advise not to use it because the babies bodies are not developed enough yet and that it's not good for their liver or kidneys.

I feel bad having said this now that your HV has recommended it - but the difference I guess is that she was told just to give more of the normal milk - which in your case wasn't possible. I'lll also add - this was when her baby was only about 4 weeks old - so that may be part of it. She is now 7 weeks and still on the normal milk - having about 7oz every 3 hours.

This is perhaps just another example of the advise given by HCPs differing from one part of the country to another! I'm sure if there was any risk the HVs wouldn't recommend it.

TreacleSoda · 17/01/2012 17:46

Stace don't feel bad, I asked you to find out! Ok, will have to do some thorough research now, and see what I can find out. On the one hand I think that my HV wouldn't have recommended it if it wasn't safe, and on the other hand I think that your friend's HV would hardly have told her that it wasn't safe if it was......you see my dilemma! Anyway, thanks for finding out, I'm off to investigate.

alicat10 · 17/01/2012 18:26

Kate393 you could try playing White noise - my DS can you quite noisy & snuffly when settling himself & if he wakes & doesn't want food so I've put some on my phone & just wack it on - seems to help him settling himself & helps us sleep through his noises - it's like have a hedgehog in the room all the snorting & snuffling!

MooseyMoo · 17/01/2012 20:04

treacle I asked about hungry baby formula when ds was 4 weeks old and she said that it stayed in baby's system for longer and made them feel full for longer between feeds. At the time I didn't want this as ds was struggling to digest normal formula. Kind of makes sense what Stace says for younger babies but hv wouldn't have recommended it.

My mum keeps saying my bro was havin too much milk at 5 weeks old (8ozs 7 times in 24 hours) and that her hv recommended putting baby rice in milk to make him fuller. Reckon that's similar to what the hungry baby formula does.

Poppet45 · 17/01/2012 20:08

Hi all, hope you all had good days!
Weaning well Willow's having her weaning talk with the HV in a month's time. Feels just crazy even contemplating it when to me she's only 3 and a bit months, but technically she'll be 7. With J we did a blend of purees and BLW. I have heard that pukey babies do badly with BLW though because their sore foodpipes don't like hard/sharp solids and prefer mush. Hmmm, but then there's no way Willow will be able to safely do BLW at first as she'll be far too underdeveloped. This is all so different from J who was a 6 month whopper when we started to give him solids. The first thing he ever ate was a banana he picked up and rammed in his mouth himself!
Sleep well Willow did her best ever snooze last night from 10.30pm to 6.10am!!! Unfortunately because of this she missed her 2am domperidone and that combined with chugging her first feed like a gannet, meant the whole day has been a fest of puking and lack of sleep. She's currently lying under her baby gym with a slightly wired look, talking to the cuddly red cow dangling above her head and hiccuping. Frankly I'm hoping she'll go back to waking once a night again.
Speaking of sleep, can I just warn people now that it's not linear, and just because a baby's doing well now they won't necessarily just keep getting better and better, they go through phases where it gets much worse too. I'm treating Willow's odd great nights as a lovely treat. J's sleeping problems began aged about 12 weeks, and got worse at each big developmental shift known as 'sleep regressions'. There's an evil one at 4 months, and I think at 9 months although he was so bad around 4-9 months it was hard to tell, then another regression at around 12 and um 18 months I think. The book Wonder Weeks is great on it, or just look up sleep regression. Lots of people wean early because they think the baby is hungry but its just this almighty developmental shift around 4 to 5 months, and babies have so much going on in their heads they find it really hard to switch off. Then of course there's teething pains which are much worse at night. Argh.
Right her wired ladyship's patience is running out. She must want someone to puke on. Let's face it, that's going to be me.

Caliphora · 17/01/2012 23:31

talking to the cuddly red cow dangling above her head and hiccuping
That's what Abi does most times, too...

I'm half tempted to give up the Domperidone. It makes her so on edge and twitchy.

TV Abi loves looking at the TV - I'm so scared I'm creating a TV monster, but she just... loves it! So I'm now making an effort to put on "wholesome" things (I really love Waybuloo!), and making more time for her play gym. Oh the parenting choices!

PamSco · 18/01/2012 05:32

Ha ha ha ha Poppet sleep regression. I can't wait. Since my darling is up every other hour for an hour it can't get any worse.

Got a heaving cold here, baby boy is pretending to want to feed but just wants to play and has done since 3. Yesterday in the 24 hrs he slepts grand total of 4 hours split 3 and 1 - how is he coping? It's just play play play.

PamSco · 18/01/2012 05:33

Oh and he still refuses to do any of this in the crib.

Somersaults · 18/01/2012 09:06

Well having moaned about C's sleep yesterday she slept from 1-5.30 this morning which was lovely :)

We thoroughly enjoyed Baby Srnsory yesterday too. She fell asleep the second the session finished but she loved it! Highly recommended.

hadak · 18/01/2012 09:10

Morning ladies.
PamSco Much the same in my house at present. Definitely able to sell my moses basket as UNUSED!! I don't mind though I quite like having him in my bed DS1 was exactly the same I think he was about 18months before he went into his cot and then always in our bed by the early hours until he was about 3/4. It is exhausting though so I do feel for you.
Poppet Willow sounds like she is doing well. I can't believe it is time to wean her already!! How's it going without the dairy? I am still being very strict and nappies generally seem to be better (I think) However I have started back on the gluten I just couldn't manage without and was loosing weight as I was struggling to find anything good to eat. I hadn't noticed any difference but I suppose if there is any change in the next few days I will have to rethink.
Teething How old are your teething little ones. DS is constantly drooling and fist sucking but he doesn't have the tell tale red cheeks I don't know whether it's teeth or tummy he fist sucks for. DS1 teeth never bothered him from what I can remember they just appeared quite quickly although I remember his eczema flared up during this time.
For you mummies using Domperidone. I noticed there is a message on the BF board about it. It was a link to info- sorry didn't read it so don't know if it is of any use....
Can I ask anybody on Ranitidine what dosage they are giving and weight of baby? We are on 0.3 x 3 daily. I am not sure it is really working but I am a bit loath to stop it. Is it something you can just stop and you will see immediately if there is a change or does it build up- if that makes sense?
Well I had beeter get organised off for the dreaded jabs this morning. Hope you all have a lovely day

goldmaple · 18/01/2012 11:00

Glad to hear everyone is getting along well (esp williow!) or at least better (Cali hope you find someone to help with Abi)

I feel like Emily is tiny!! 11 lbs 4oz at 10 weeks! She was sleeping 11-4:30 but woke at 3am last night (after guzzling milk all day!?) so looks like a growth spurt!

Very impressed with everyone losing weight. I'm now in betweenmatetnity and my regular clothes so nothing fits. Have plateaued with weight loss so might look into SW. Got a personal trainer thou... Hoping that helps to tone. Only 1st away from goal but like others everything is a bit soft/wobbly.

Baby sensory sounds like fun. We started baby yoga and Emme cried the whole time after I said she was a dream baby!
