Somer Abi dropped 2.5 centiles and didn't put weight on for 4 weeks. No one batted an eyelid, but rather made me out to be hysterical. If she's been ill, and clearly thriving (i.e. no screaming her head off and looking miserable) then ignore the bottle advice.

I would say though, if she's "failing to thrive" and you're concerned, get a referral to a paediatrician. HVs are pretty useless in my experience.

Grrr Somer You have a happy, content baby? Doesn't scream in hunger after feeds? Plenty of wet and dirty nappies? Not losing weight? Then only introduce a bottle if you want to. Who says 6oz in 2 weeks is not enough? Your DD may naturally be petite DD never moved off the 25th percentile. I get so cross when hv panic us parents without good reason. Trust yourself - you are doing a fab job. And no, I'm rubbish at new threads but someone needs to do one! :)

New thread: something about the magic 3 month target? Disembarking the good ship Infacol, destination Good Night's Sleep? Or is that just asking for it...

Report
Somersaults · 14/02/2012 21:19

She had only gained an ounce in the last two weeks but had been ill, and in the two weeks before that 6oz which they said then wasn't enough for two weeks. She has her jabs soon so I can ask the gp then.

No ideas for new thread name really but I'm never very imaginative!

Guys - we need a new thread! What to call it?

Somer - does she put weight on? As long as she's not losing weight, they usually don't worry (hence the struggle with Abi).
Don't feel you have to give her a bottle, and consult your GP if you want a second opinion - if nothing else to be able to say "well, my GP isn't worried, and he is a trained doctor, after all..."

She started between 50th and 75th and is now just above the 25th.I know she's thriving, I spend all day every day with her. She's a happy, active, alert baby so why panic?

Happy Valentine's Day everyone :)

I quite fancy baby massage but haven't seen any ads for one round here or know of anyone that goes to one. It's supposed to help them sleep better and also gain weight better apparently?! Anyway, seeing as though my HV told me yesterday I should start giving her one formula feed a day because she's not following those stupid centile lines properly (even though I said she'd been ill) anything that will help her gain weight would be good. It's not even that I think there's anything wrong with giving her formula, I just feel now like I have something to prove, like I need to show the HV that I an doing a good job!

Never - Abi was always a good sleeper, but everything else was chaos up until 3 weeks ago, so I'm not the one to advise on sleep :(

Gave Abi her first tasters yesterday, and continued today - she's loving it! Fingers exploring the purées, shoving them all over her face (and some in her mouth), giggling and smiling. I'm not going to put her good sleep down to the solids, but she's been such a settled girl today.
I'm glad we're getting a good start with this. Her bottle intake has upped, too, 5-7oz 4 times/day, so it's all glory days in the Cali household!

Went to baby massage and it was awesome, even though she was the biggest baby there. Time for baby babble soon, too.

Making mulled wine and game pie for Valentines day - DP is sat in the lounge sniffing the air Grin

Let her sleep Cali, try not to think of it as a bad daily rhythm, it could be a new improved daily rhythm! Eddie sleeps 12 hours at night, then is awake for 4 hours in the morning, between 8 and 12, sleeps until 2, then awake until 5, sleep until 6, awake until 8 and asleep until 8 the next morning! His feeds are at 8, 11, 2, 5 and 7:30. I love his routine, it gives me plenty time to get stuff done at lunch time while he naps. The only problem with Eddie is when he is sleeping, he gets furious if woken up, so any classes at his self imposed nap times are no fun.

Its good to hear Abi is settling down, and her tummy is getting stronger. Enjoy the extra sleep, and try to be flexible while she finds her natural routine.

Abi has slept from 10pm last night - it's now 9.10am and she's still sleeping...
I don't want to wake her but she should really have a bottle now so we don't get into a bad daily rhythm... What to do?!

Morning all,

been reading but not posting, as there hasn't been too much exciting to report on, just milk and nappies, milk and nappies.....

Poppet & Pam, I'd love another Edinburgh meet up, am away on hols next week but could arrange something after that?

J has his second set of inoculations this morning, DH is coming to the appointment too as he is working from home today, so he can be the baddie and hold J down.

Hope everyone is well and the babies are good or getting better :)

Never - Luke only has 2/3/4 oz at the most but it seems to be enough to satisfy - I think at that time my milk is low and unsatisfying. I have actually started giving him it at 6pm now and the last few days he has gone to bed at 8pm and slept till I woke him around 4am with exploding boobs! The magic 3 month mark when everything settles down, hoorah!

I am around to meet TC next Thurs. Mornings are better for me - shall we say 11am again like last time? Anyone else up for it?

I put Abi in her bumbo from 8 weeks, but modified: I'd prop it slightly angled backwards in the sofa and cushion with pillows behind her neck. That way it wasn't putting too much strain on her spine, but still upright enough for her to enjoy it.
Mind, she only lasted about 5-10 minutes in it :)

Report
neverinamillionyears · 13/02/2012 23:21

busy thanks again for the advice. I'll continue with the one bottle although she has only taken 3oz of it this evening.

mrsa funny you should mention the bumbo, I looked at one today. E is doing pretty well with head control so maybe just another week or so :) she loves being upright so I'm sure she will love it.

Tired now, E went to sleep at 8.30 I wonder for how much longer? Awww she links so calm, content and cute right now. Bless her ( I still can't get that silly grin off my face that I'm a mummy now ) :)

Those of you loving the bumbos, we have a bumbo toilet training seat that DD still uses. It's like a bumbo with the bottom cut out and is so comfy and warm on the bum!
A while off yet I know but worth looking out for. Can't wait to put DS in his big sister's old bumbo (who cares if it's pink!). He's 10 weeks tomorrow, and his head control is OK, so may have a go in the next couple of weeks.

Who's up for a trafford centre meet next week? Thursday is always a good day for me.

glitter what pill are you taking? Reason I ask is Ive had cerazette (as was still expressing when started on it) and it's been a nightmare so swapping to microgynon which is what I used to take and can again now E is totally FF.

glitter One time I went on the pill and bled for 3 months... Talk to your GP for an OB/Gyn referral if it's concerning.
Also consider some iron supplements.

Weaning is recommended from 4-5 months, but only as "tasters", ie little spoonfuls to start with. It is very focused on baby led though, so you only do puréed foods to introduce the sensation and taste, not to wean. There isn't even a word for weaning though!
