Hi all,

just starting up a post natal thread for all the due in November peeps on the antenatal forum and anyone else who would like to join in too, hoping to see my arrival by the end of the week, so officially an early bird I hope :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Caliphora · 31/12/2011 07:43

kate Abi was grumpy for a day after - sore leg a bit more and milking it ;)
We gave calpol and let her be as clingy velcro as she wanted to.

Caliphora · 31/12/2011 07:59

Oh, and the last 24 hours were fun: Abi started choking on her feeds. We took her to a&e, so we now have a prescription for domperidone, and hoping we get some success with it. It is the last step before surgical investigations, so fingers crossed it's the silver bullet. poppet how long before it worked for you?

Second great thing: I'm now in A&E with a suspected DVT. Amazeballs.

PerishStorm · 31/12/2011 09:03

Oh cali I really feel for you and Abi, I hope that the New Year brings you a little more good luck and good health.

I'm not looking forward to DS's jabs, I was upset after the heel prick test! I have bought some calpol in preparation.

Wish you all a very Happy New Year and a fabulous 2012 with your lovely little LOs!

kate393 · 31/12/2011 10:49

Oh cali that's awful. Poor abi, and poor you too now! Whats the treatment for dvt, is it blood thinners?
E slept fairly well in night, I gave the paracetamol at bedtime and she seems a bit perkier so hoping that did the trick.

Caliphora · 31/12/2011 13:52

So, yeah, DVT it is. I blame it on the stress of the last 10 weeks, me taking up part time smoking again (guilty stress-release evening walk while DP takes over Abi) and 10 years of estrogen based contraceptives.

This means injections for three days and then a scan and Warfarin for the duration. Huzzah! (I'm trying to stay positive here)...

Poppet45 · 31/12/2011 17:07

Hi all - here's to a wondefully happy, fun 2012 filled with first steps, words and hopefully sooooooooooooo much less stress and worry than 2011!
Cali am so glad you've found a consultant worth listening too, you need all the allies you can get with reflux. We found the domperidone worked over a 1 week - 10 day period, but be warned about some side effects if the dose is too high. Willow's dose was upped from 4x0.5ml to 4x1ml a while back, and cue a night of agonised shrieks - so me and DH cut it down to 0.75ml. Turns out it can cause stomach cramps if its too high. Still we found that it really helps the ranitadine do its stuff. The ranitadine reduces the acid of any vomit but the domperidone really reduces the volume of puke because it makes the stomach empty much faster so there's less in there to burn back up the windpipe. But before surgery I hope they'd look at omeprazole as an alternative to ranitadine, it has more side effects, but it turns of the proton pumps in the stomach completely so cuts the acidity massively.
Oh and don't tempt me with the cigs.... I could really fancy one around about now. But given I'm off chocolate, all other dairy, wine and um well anything fun I guess I'll pass. Also Willow spends much of her time sleeping on me or next to me so I daren't.
Hadak I think were going to be off dairy for the foreseeable as Willow got noticeably more unsettled as soon as I reintroduced a trace amount. Let alone my hallowed xmas pud with brandy butter waves bye bye to festering pot in fridge. If you're doing it for elimination purposes I'm afraid 4 weeks is the minimum time before you'll see a difference. It takes two weeks to leave you, and then two weeks to leave DC.
Jags Willow's had quite a lot now, as they go from birth date not due date... but we've been told no Calpol as it appears to reduce the immune response making the jags less effective. Cuddles and much boob appear to work okay!
Speaking of the weird, weird world of premmies, my dietician asked me how I'd feel about weaning Willow next month... if she shows signs of readiness. Because at 10 weeks adjusted, she will of course be sitting up unaided, have lost her tongue thrust reflex and will be picking up food and putting it in her mouth.... :O

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 31/12/2011 18:58

Evening all, just wanted to wish everyone a happy and healthy 2012, I hope things get easier for all, especially those babies having a tough time x

PamSco · 31/12/2011 21:42

Well here we go into 2012 with our precious cargo - I hope all troubles settle quickly.

I stopped chocs a couple of days ago and W's poo is less green and oily - relief is slightly stronger than the guilt over doing that to him!

Edinburgh/Perth/Fife and other scottish peeps - when should we meet again?

juststarting · 31/12/2011 22:01

Evening all. Just a quickie, having used up my computer time getting up to date. Cali- sorry you are having a shitty time. I am sorry, really. I had such a hard time after DS was born with problems feeding and two surgeries on abscesses and just low low mood and anxiety, and I know this is NOT how you hope the first few months of your child's life is going to be. But it sounds like this new doctor has a better attitude. I've had all the protein pump inhibitors and domperidone myself for reflux and they can give you tummy ache, its true - but they also do reduce the heartburn. It wont last forever.
Mrs - I am 5.5 weeks post birth and still bleeding and I passed a huk of tissue the other day as well - same thing happened with DS. I did have a uterine infection and am wondering whether my course of antibiotics didnt do the trick to be honest but the midwives and the GP arent worried. Though I am a bit, to be honest.
Sure there was someting else. Cant recall what. So happy new year to everyone!
Oh, that was it - paracetamol and jabs - I think you just shuldnt take it before as the raise in temperature needs to happen for the immune system to be making its responses, but once the temperature has come up you can administer then or something - must dash, baby awakes.

diddygirl · 31/12/2011 23:16

Hi all, just found this thread and wondered if I could join you - could do with somewhere to ask questions etc!!! Had my baby on 24th Nov; she's now 5 weeks.
Thanks
x

neverinamillionyears · 01/01/2012 01:39

Welcome diddy

Happy 2012 to all. Up feeding si just one handed typing. X

Caliphora · 01/01/2012 02:23

Domperidone hell - Abi hasn't slept since 5, still screams at her bottle and won't take her feeds, but is now absolutely starving due to her stomach emptying so fast.

I feel lost and distraught - I have no idea how to get her to eat more.

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 01/01/2012 07:10

Morning all, Cali so sorry that Abi is still suffering, can't imagine what that must be like, but I really hope things get better soon for you.

Pam, am up for another meet up, although not sure whether the others apart from you, me and Poppet are still following the thread, not heard from them for a while?

Am off to see the New Years Dook in Broughty Ferry today, mad people swimming in the Tay, mental, really looking forward to seeing it and going for a new years walk with my little family, maybe this year we'll do more activity and less eating of crisps!

TwoJackRussellsandababy · 01/01/2012 07:11

Oh and welcome Diddy

cookie9 · 01/01/2012 08:42

Hello diddy

Cali so sorry to hear you are unwell. Hope things improve very soon for you and Abi.

I still have large painful lump on my breast and last week they did a biopsy then needle aspiration. Bloody painful afterwards.

Hope you all have a super 2012. We celebrated quietly at home and have been rewarded with the longest sleep ever 5 and a half hours. Total bliss!

juststarting · 01/01/2012 10:09

Welcome diddy, good to have you.
Cali, i'm so sorry, this is so horrid for all of you. Did the paediatrician say she might be like this to start with? Poor baby girl, she doesnt deserve this to be so hard for her. I wish I had a suggestion or something. Just dont get too low, I know its horrid, and hard and it hurts you all, but it will pass eventually, you're on a topugh road, but at least you'e on it, trying things out, getting it looked at. Its going to be a slog, you just have to keep gooing. She wont remember any of this you know. Ypou will, but she wont.
Cookie, sorry about the breast. I had mine surgically drained after aspiration failed several times. Needed to be done, and recoovery was a damn site less painful than the abscess itself.

hadak · 01/01/2012 13:07

Happy 2012 everybody.
Cali sorry things aren't improving for Abi as Just says I wish I knew of something that could help.
Cookie that sounds painful- hope you recover soon.
Very quiet evening of celebrations in the Hadak household last night (well apart from my little scream monster) Felt a bit pi**ed off as I couldn't have any goodies to eat as I am currently dairy and gluten free and it's killing me but hey ho if it helps little man that's all that matters.
Poppet I have been DF for almost 3 weeks but only GF for a few days. Not sure if I can see any difference apart from in the nappy dept. Although I have found some df chocolate in Holland and Barrats that has chilli and it has a real kick it's lovely.
Do any of you ladies use a Moby Wrap? I have just got one thinking it might help my rubbish back. I am struggling a bit with the hold though as he tends to stretch his legs up and down a lot when he is unsettled and the newborn hold doesn't allow legs to stretch and his head control isn't good enough yet for the straddle type hold so we are in and out every five minutes!! Any suggestions??
Have a lovely day everybody.

Caliphora · 01/01/2012 19:25

Hadak Try a ring sling - I make my own with the pattern from here : www.slingrings.com/npatterns.php
Abi loves her because she can be as wriggly as she likes and still Velcro on me.

Tried Tommee Tippee bottles today - 120ml, no vomit and 3 hours sleep... Not syaing anything yet though, as we've had these honeymoons before.
Will be grr if they work, as I have a full Avent set-up worth about £60 :(

H007 · 01/01/2012 22:46

Hello sorry I haven't been around for a while (slaps wrist) been soooo busy am feeding at the moment but will catch up eventually.

Wishing you all a very Happy and exciting New Year :-)

TreacleSoda · 02/01/2012 00:01

hello Diddy, welcome!

Cali what to say? I am really hoping that the start of 2012 sees a turnaround for both your health and your baby's health, you are going through such a lot of crap, and if I lived near you and could come round and help you in some practical way I would happily do it. I am sending big big positive throughts and prayers your way.

To everyone else, a very Happy New Year. Hoping that 2012 is good to us all. x

sasaunde · 02/01/2012 09:30

Phew where does the time go happy new year everyone!
Yes MrsA I have a let down reflex like a bomb going off, it's almost painful. I try to make sure DS is levered off for it then put him back on after but he's "manning up" and can take it now with just a few startled grunts! Think it helps that my milk supply is stabilising a bit too. He still screams and goes rigid after feeding in the evening so we're going to try some colief today.

Thinking of you Cali, such a tough time for you, hope hope things improve soon.

hadak I have a c shaped cushion for resting DS on while feeding that really helps my back - not much use carrying him round Blush but a godsend when sitting down! One of the things I'd forgotten was the strain a baby puts on the back.

Poppet45 · 02/01/2012 22:02

Argh I so fecking hate it when Mumsnet times out and loses your message at the preview fecking stage.
Cali right I have one last shot. Now I know nothing about bottles, nadda, but I do remember a problem one mum was having at the premmie outpatients clinic where her DS had refused almost all feeds for about 18 hours. The first thing the mw asked her was what the teats were made of. Turns out some babies really, really grow to hate the clear silicone ones because they are hard work, but really like the cheapo yellow rubber ones because they are much more sensitive. They gave her a hospital issue one on a bottle of Nutriprem and he glugged it. I'm floundering here, its probably nothing to do with it, but I just want to suggest something that might help. Might be worth a shot?
I know right now you're going through hell, utter utter hell. A friend from my NCT group with Jacob had a wee boy, allergic to soy and dairy, fell down the centiles, multiple hospital stays, she was in tears at every weigh in, even had a terrifying blue baby episode his reflux was so bad. Well he was weaned early - and it wasn't easy - as refluxy babies can have issues with lumps in food on their sore throats (woo for another shitey thing about reflux), but after that things got so much easier for her that she was expecting baby number 2 by the time he was 8 months. After going through this!! Her DD has no feeding issues or allergies, and she is the most chilled out mummy who frankly can't believe how easy it is to deal with a 'standard issue' baby. This too shall pass lovely, and in the meantime we're here.

freeangel · 02/01/2012 23:09

hope abi is doing ok, must be so hard for you cali. I know you all talk about reflux with your babies, does anyone's baby have silent reflux? As both times i have been to the doctors they have said he will grow out of it, i have put up with it till now but today he has hardly slept, just cried most of today. You just get him settled then the fluid hits the back of his throat and then he cries so you have to settle him again. I have given up with worrying over a routine etc as i think hes so unsettled every night down to the silent reflux and perhaps a touch of colic. Sorry for the self absorbed post. Hope everyone had a nice new year and is doing ok?

alicat10 · 03/01/2012 06:58

Ladies I am selling my Medela Swing electric breast pump - 2nd hand value (looking at eBay) seems to be about £55 incl. P&P if anyone is interested...

Caliphora · 03/01/2012 08:04

After a bit of a breakdown last night we're calling the consultant today to ask for appointments for more investigations.
Abi taking 120ml from the new bottles was a fluke, and she's back to screams.
The biggest hardship now is the wait for the appointments, tests etc. I know it could be weeks, and it'll drive me insane, but at least we're getting there.
