BB3 · 26/10/2011 20:02

I have two of the most unladylike dd's ever when it comes to farts and burps Grin Edith-may burps like a builder - really loud, long ones (it's quite cute as she gets all embarrassed and hides in your chest after she's done it!) and both of them make the most horrendous noise when they poo - you can hear it in the next room with the doors closed! Ds was / is the same! I must breed wind monsters! Blush

We've got our 6 week check tomorrow at 8.30 (not actually six weeks yet only 5.5 but drs receptionist seemed to think that was fine!) so hopefully all well although he might hate me as I've a list a mile long of things I want him to check! Blush

Hope everyone ok - today has been a bit of a crazy one and I'm done! Was supposed to be chilled with my grandfather over for lunch so we could get a few house bits done but no! Ended up with neighbours, aunts, cousins and sisters and nieces here for most of the day and da seems nowhere near sleep and I'm on my last legs! Please sleep fairy give my girls and ds a good night tonight xxx

BB3 · 26/10/2011 20:03

Oh and Irish so glad you're feeling better about it all. X

Irishclaire · 26/10/2011 22:05

Thanks BB3, glad my little man isn't the only farty pants!... Good luck with the check, my surgery won't do it until 8 weeks. Sending sleep fairies to all who need them tonight x

Penelope1980 · 26/10/2011 22:25

engels re the sleeping DH has been sleeping in the spare room about once a week which works well as it allows him to catch up on sleep so he has more energy to help me! He's back at work now as well so means he can function - I do better on little sleep than him anyway.

Awen I think you should go for a tiny bit, but be strict about your baby being passed around? I am gradually doing that after one day in his first week when he was so passed around he didn't settle for hours, now I will tell people they can't have a cuddle if he's asleep. Mean, but I don't mind either as think it's best. I never thought I'd be so hardline about it, but there you go.

I have a farty baby as well! The MW said that babies tend to be one or the other, the only problem is burping doesn't work so when he is gassy I have to wait until he passes wind in his own time before he'll settle. Unless you know any tricks to move it along?

I fear colic. No sign of it yet but after seeing my sister's experience with a colicky baby I really hope DS doesn't get it!

MamaMaiasaura · 26/10/2011 22:48

I've decided to miss it as if I wanted to leave early would be hard as with dh and also my ds's. Also forewarned that I may not be there before Jessica born. I just wouldn't relax. Grumpy me Wink

X

bilblio · 26/10/2011 22:50

I think we may be in need of the sleep fairies. Seth has been asleep most of the day, despite lots of prodding, telly being on etc. Except for the 1-4pm slot when he has been sleeping, and I have too, but he fought it for ages today.

He did a huge poo half an hour ago, whilst asleep (how do they do that?) Then woke up very angry about the situation 5 minutes later. Currently feeding whilst skin-to-skin as everything got wet but run out of spare clothes down here, and he's looking far too awake for my liking for this time of night. Hmm

Oh and now he's poo'd again!

Rubbing belly in a clockwise motion, or bringing knees up to belly can help with wind penelope

bilblio · 26/10/2011 23:05

...and now he has hiccups... it's all go tonight :)

Who mentioned cuttings nails? I meant to say, get a glass nail file, betterware and possibly superdrug sell them. They're great. Not rough like an emery board so don't hurt the skin but get rid of sharp nails in no time.

LittlePebble · 26/10/2011 23:44

Hey all,
irishclaire glad you're feeling better and have had some reassurance about c section next time. Over 11lbs! Crikey what a big baby well done!
bilblio hope you don't have a bad night but if you do you can join me on here at night I've been having really bad nights with Elijah and am exhausted.
Had mini meltdown today as first time took him out in pram and he was screaming every time I tried to go into shop. Ended up bf in cafe but afterwards he still screamed, luckily DP came out of haircut at this point and held him while I got few emergency bits. Then DP wanted me to go into work this afternoon but we didn't finish lunch and feeding until 3pm and I was so exhausted after 2hrs sleep I wanted to try and get an hours sleep. Cue big barney with DP as he'd promised we'd go in today for everyone to meet baby and I had to push that it was more important for me to sleep so I can look after DS again tonight rather than drag myself down to work when everyone would understand if we don't go in until Friday.
DP finally grasped quite how tired I am so took Elijah and dog out for walk so I could sleep Smile. Managed an hour but am still shattered and just hoping Elijah gives me a break tonight.
BB3 hope they all sleep for you tonight too always feel guilty about moaning when you have 3!!!

LittlePebble · 26/10/2011 23:46

Awen I think you totally need to do what you're happy with and if that's stay at home then do. I've pushed myself to do too many family things since DS was born and end up over tired and emotional which makes me a worse mummy. X

BB3 · 27/10/2011 03:09

The sleep fairy came until 2 (girls had 5 hours, I had 4 - yay) but now has flown flown right off again and I have one windy sleepy baby and one wide awake one! Oh ...

pebble glad dp realised you needed sleep. Hope tonight is better for you x

cheekydino · 27/10/2011 03:17

Hello! I too am cuddling a windy baby after a good first half of the night. And amusing myself on mumsnet. Thank god for my iPhone! Don't know how I managed night feeds last time without one.

Littlepebble - hope you are having a better night.

LittlePebble · 27/10/2011 03:33

Yay am on feed three of the night but so far have managed to get him to sleep in Moses basket in between feeds so have been able to get between one and one and a half hours sleep each time Grin thunk I must have managed about three and a half hrs so far which is more than last three nights already! Fingers crossed he continues like this.
Hope you both get some more sleep x

Penelope1980 · 27/10/2011 04:48

Hope you are all getting some sleep! I am rocking the moses basket with my foot while I type, trying to get a grumbly DS to nod off so I can go and have a nap ... (or at the least cook dinner, as it's almost dinner time here)

cheekydino · 27/10/2011 07:02

Managed to get her to sleep in the Moses basket from 3.30 til 4.30 but then wind woke her again so she slept on me for 2 hours and now I'm feeding again. Bloody wind. Yesterday she did two 5 hour sleeps (well, 5 hr gaps in feeding) at night so I was hoping for that again but no such luck!

BB3 · 27/10/2011 08:27

Ayse-Rose would not go back to sleep after the 2-3am feed session (unlike her sister who zonked straight away!) she finally gave in at 5.30 and then Edith-May woke up at 6. Fed her, both girls asleep, ds woke up at 7 (which is great ordinarily).

I'm at the drs now waiting (I stupidly need to work on my arm muscles, almost died carrying both babies in their car seats from car to surgery), then home and we have family visiting all afternoon Angry I don't ordinarily mind visits but these particular ones don't seem to know when to leave and have two over-excitable kids that will also need entertaining. Ho hum!

What has everyone got planned today?

LittlePebble · 27/10/2011 08:56

Oh BB3 poor you! Can you invent a visit from hv or mw at an appropriate time to give you an excuse to get them to leave?

We managed about four hour/ hour and a half periods of sleep last night (so probably between four and five hrs sleep in total Smile) and I got E into the Moses basket each time so feeling like I'm a bit more on top of things this morning. DP has had to go into work today so on my own for the first time. His mother is coming at 11 which I'm dreading slightly but he's hoping to be home at lunch and my mum is coming in afternoon so hopefully I can sleep a bit and leave her in charge. Got to get used to being on my own as next week that'll be it! Eek!

CheshireDing · 27/10/2011 09:54

Gosh BB3 I cannot imagine carrying 2 car seats with babies in, 1 is WAY heavy enough!!

To those with windy babies mint and/or fennel tea is supposed to help. Twinings do a mint tea so that is easy enough to get hold of in the supermarket/co-op but I don't know about fennel. It's not the worst thing I have tasted and improves a bit when you put some honey in it.

BB3 · 27/10/2011 11:39

Hello, we are back from drs and found out Ayse-Rose has a heart murmur. SadSadSad I burst into tears when he told me, not be because of that really as it's fixable, or manageable, and nothing like what cupoftea is going through - but the poor girl cannot catch a break. She is 5 weeks and 2 days old and has an umbilical hernia, has been hospitalised with a viral infection, had a horrendous cold and nappy rash (which he gave us caneston hv cream for today) and now this! That and I for really very grumpy with her last night when she refused to sleep so felt awful. And the poor little might is losing her hair all over so looks like an old man with alapecia compared to her sister who is mildly thinning! Sad so we will be monitored by gp for 6 weeks and if no improvement she will be referred to peads at hospital for more tests Sad

PenguinArmy · 27/10/2011 11:42

shame I can't stand mint.

our night is
wake
feed 5mins
sleep 10 mins
wind 20 mins
think got back to sleep, put baby down
more wind 20 mins
sleep 45 mins
and repeat

but good to hear other windy babies and ones that don't like the moses basket. I think DS just doesn't like being on this back. We had many sleep issues with DD but putting her down was not one of them.

I also find I keep getting dehydrated as I'm not with it enough to drink in the night and DD is at that age where having a glass around is not a good idea so I forget to drink in the day as well.

MW is due today, I don't think his jaundice is 100% fully cleared so discharge I reckon comes down to the individual MW.

Poor Ayse-Rose. Hopefully it will be okay BB3 I was born with a heart murmur but it healed itself. I think they usually do in most cases. We didn't even find out I'd had it until I was in my 20's and a Dr mentioned it when I had a medical. Mum knows I seemed to have a lot more tests and check ups than other children, but she never dared to ask why and no one ever told her.

It never caused me problems, although I did develop a heart murmur again when pregnant with DD. Again it caused no problems and sorted itself out by my 6 week check.

We had a good sleep after all. Although he was in bed with me he was too windy to settle. I've discovered rubbing his lower back seems to ease the trumpiness.

We've had our first trip out to the supermarket today. Seth slept the whole time, and DD insisted on helping/hindering by pushing the trolley.
I've just had a lovely lunch which included Brie & Yorkshire Blue cheese :o Now I'm going to have a huge glass of DrPepper whilst carving a pumpkin with DD. She knows halloween is something exciting, but doesn't realise she could go trick or treating.... we've bought an outfit and I've told her she'll get to give sweeties to people who call round.
I've no objection to trick or treaters... but I don't want to go out myself.
I'm a halloween scrooge. :)

PenguinArmy · 27/10/2011 15:00

9oz in 4 days Shock but we're discharged :) MW was as confused as I was at not being so last time, although she made some quip about leaving a longer gap between DCs next time Hmm. At least there's something concrete to show for lack of sleep.

Couple of days catching up for me to do!

Woo hoo for pre-preg clothes penguin! I haven?t tried any pre-preg trousers yet but I don?t hold out much hope. They were getting a bit tight anyway?

irishclaire, glad you?re feeling better. Talking can sometimes do wonders. I also have a farty baby, it?s very funny! Grin

Glad that DP let you have a sleep yesterday pebble, I haven?t had one today and I feel like crap and have had a few tears! My DH is going back to work next week so I will also be on my own, eek. Although he has been in and out quite a lot so I?ve had a bit of practice.

Sorry to hear about heart murmur BB3. I don?t know anything about them but from what others have said it sounds hopeful that it will correct itself.

Thanks for reassurance on length of feeds. We seem to have settled into 15 minute feeds now with multiple wet and poo nappies so everything seems good. Although we now keep having incidents where the milk comes straight back up so then she?s hungry again. I think this could be because she sucks in too much air so I think I need some help with my latch. Might head off to a BF drop in tomorrow morning. Bit scared of going as I?m so shy when meeting new people. Blush

sassy34264 · 27/10/2011 18:46

hi everyone. sorry for the sudden awol. been having a time of it! and wanted to read before i posted, but its just not happening. got about half way through the other day, but its now probably doubled again. will try to make more of an effort to catch up.

anyway, reason being was jacob. he didnt take well to me being away for 4 days at all. he has been in a right state and i wasmt much better. his eczema flared up terribly. all over his body and horrible sores all around his mouth. he wouldnt eat and he was just crying all the time. he wouldnt come to me, let me hug him or comfort him and just generally acted like he hated me.
i totally broke my heart over him. i thought he'd changed forever but he is slowly coming around and his eczema is drying up.
ive also had trouble with my c sec scar. i ve managed to pull it so its gaping a bit on one side and weeping all over. it burns really bad sometimes if i turn over in bed and also if i stand to long. so ive had to really stop trying to do things. ive been so upset over jacob though that ive been picking him up and trying to feed him etc to get him back.
and now we think isobel may have chicken pox as she has spots and has been a bit poorly since last night. going to the docs tomorr

sassy34264 · 27/10/2011 19:09

had to post then as jacob was trying to climb on top of eva and isobel was all over me trying to get my phone! was going to say that we're going to the docs tomorrow to get isobel's rash checked out and to request a food allergy test for jacob's eczema.

hope everyone is well.
