LittlePebble · 24/10/2011 23:42

Thanks bilblio and penguin I'm trying not to be all neurotic first time mum! Blush

BB3 · 25/10/2011 04:22

morning all - now let's see if I can manage to make sense after being awake since one feeding and changing two hungry, pukey, pooey little girls x Grin x

engel well done on getting him checked again - does he get upset when you move him or touch the area? If not chances are it isn't affecting him too much x

penguin good luck tomorrow (well today)

pebble Ayse-Rose has horrendous nappy rash from her viral infection - her poor body just seemed to suffer everywhere. We are using metanium (my tip is mix with some Vaseline then it's easier to apply and remove and doesn't stain everything it touches!) but I think she will need antibiotics so going to get dr to check it out at our six week check on Thursday.

bilblio I think we are set for a lifetime of feeling guilty! Smile yesterday ds was desperate for attention but girls were playing up so I physically couldn't play with him and he acted up big time, so today to make up for it i made sure I made time for him while girls slept (which basically means doing anything physical) we were running round the living room, playing rockets and outside on the trampoline bouncing like loons for ages. And as a result of my guilt and therefore my playing with ds I'm Knackered, my scar hurts like hell and I must have been allergic to something in the autumnal leaves that were all over the garden and trampoline as I've a rash all over my lower half that looks like about 200 insect bites! Grrrr! But ds loved it and went to be at 7.30 a tired happy content little boy compared to te night before when he was terrorising us until 10pm! Grin

BB3 · 25/10/2011 04:25

Not antibiotics - steroid cream! Almost made sense!!' Wink right - touch wood girls have finally gone off and I've got 2 hours before ds wakes up x night all xx

Penelope1980 · 25/10/2011 04:34

pebble i have done that too, although for me it was a bit under a roll of fat on his neck that looked all sore and red. I am slowly learning where to clean him and how!

engel how traumatic! If it helps, I broke my collarbone when I was a baby and my parents didn't notice for days (so i am told) but it healed fine with no lasting damage

bb3 ow I hope your rash gets better.

I am having my first day without DH today, going well so far but I haven't needed to do any chores yet!

CheshireDing · 25/10/2011 07:52

engels I can understand how that would be upsetting but hopefully what pene said should help and at least you have done what you could and were vigilante, which is the main thing really.

Poppy seems to be back in a better routine, only woke at 4am and I have just woken her now at 7.30 for a feed, yeh for a better nights sleep, feel positively amazing this morning in comparison with yesterday. She also got discharged from mw yesterday and has gone from 6lb at birth to 7lb 6 - in just 19 days! Think my baby is a feeding monster :)

PenguinArmy · 25/10/2011 09:59

well the first two hours haven't exactly been a roaring success, doesn't help DS was up feeding every hour in the night and from 3am had terrible wind so didn't really sleep.

also meant to say that MW told me to keep the belly button area dry.

chesire that's a fantastic weight gain

any bets on what time we all manage to get dressed today?

OP posts:
MrsP81 · 25/10/2011 10:47

Poor engels, that is very upsetting! But I second what everyone else has said already, and it sounds like it will probably heal up nicely.

penguin I am not dressed yet and my DH is still here! Not looking forward to him going back to work but I suppose I will adapt in the same way I am adapting to having a baby!

BB3 that sounds knackering! Hope your rash goes down quickly.

Abigail has switched from not asking for food to being a complete feeding monster! I am not complaining though as she has made a really good weight gain and she has gone from being 9% down on birth weight on Friday to 6.5% down yesterday. So definitely heading in the right direction. Smile

During the day though she only tends to feed for 10 minutes at a time and I do worry that it isn't enough and she is missing out on the hind milk. MW said anything 10 minutes or over is fine so I should be reassured I suppose! And the weight gain speaks for itself. Need to stop worrying so much......................

bilblio · 25/10/2011 11:07

Cheshire That's a great weight gain! It makes you feel so much better about the sleepless night when you can see how they're thriving. Seth was weighed yesterday at day 10 and is now 1oz above his birth weight.
I'm amazed the MW was still seeing you too. We were discharged yesterday at day 10 which is the norm. The health visitor comes tomorrow and we're under their care now.

I'm very lucky with DH being home, he was with DD but he was neither use nor ornament for the first few months then and was generally in bed until midday. It means I can always get dressed first thing. I feel so much more human once dressed... even if I am in clothes I wouldn't wear outside the house.

Yesterday was Seth's due date. I think he knows because he suddenly started opening his eyes more.

Right, I am now going to get ready and try to leave the house! I haven't been anywhere really so far, so I'm going to test myself by taking Seth for a push around the block.. and maybe pop into the daycentre at the end of the road and see if the physios I work with are there and want a cuddle. :)

PenguinArmy · 25/10/2011 20:19

We survived. Actually was out and about shopping at 12 and it went quite nicely once I admitted we had to get up dressed and out. I cheated this afternoon and we watched cbeebies for the first time, I put a INTG on, but was there to talk it through with her. Got me through witching hour while I fed and winded DS. Was a effort pushing the tandem up the hill though, those tyres will get some extra air chucked in them at the weekend.

Can jaundice go backwards? I'm not if he's looking a bit more yellow than he was Confused

Here's hoping I get at least a 2 hour block of sleep tonight. Tomorrow's big aim is to be at the library for 10:30 [doubtful emoticon]

Speaking of clothes I was pleased to find out I'm back into pre-pregnancy plus one. I always had stuff a size up for bad days plus brought a few last time as was a fair few lbs over for a while. I was in mat trousers for at least 8 weeks last time so I'm very happy and shallow:)

OP posts:
PenguinArmy · 25/10/2011 20:20

MrsP both me and 8BB3* have 5 min feeders, timing feeds can send you crazy. DD last time was more a 10/15 min feeder which turned into 5-8 mins after 6 weeks

OP posts:
PenguinArmy · 25/10/2011 20:20

oh (and last one) DD has been attempting to BF. Anyone else had this? I'm not sure how to proceed.

OP posts:
Engelsmeisje · 25/10/2011 20:24

thanks for all your comments, does make me feel better. he doesn't seem to be in any pain - just trying to treat him with more care than usual!

DH goes back to work tomorrow, though my mum and dad will be round at lunchtime. actually looking forward to getting some alone time! still haven't caught upwiththe thread - planning on parking my laptop next to the feeding chair so I can catch up during the night!

Penelope1980 · 25/10/2011 21:02

Am impressed you are almost in pre preg clothes penguin. I am still 2 stone over which is fine as know it's still early days, but am desperate for new clothes so trying to decide whether to get some in this size or wait a bit in the hope weight falls off and get them in smaller size! Either way i am so sick of my pregnancy clothes.

MamaMaiasaura · 25/10/2011 22:13

Milk came in and Jessica expert feeder already lol. Had midwife today, Jessica has mild jaundice, has maintained her birth weight of 9lb3 which is fab. Poo now milk poo and lots of it :P

I apparently should have had stitches, so they'll keep rye on me. Mw out tomoz to check jaundice.

Got baby blues a bit, only 3 hours sleep since 2am sat morning. Visitors non stop and just too much now Sad need sleep!

Penelope1980 · 25/10/2011 22:37

Awen are you able to get rid of some visitors to get some sleep? We had to be quite strict about it, was worth is though. I found they did understand.

Engelsmeisje · 25/10/2011 23:08

I agree with Penelope re visitors Awen.

Max is now 10 days old and the only visitors we've had are both sets of GPs, BIL/SIL, and a close aunt. We delayed sending out our birth cards (traditional here in NL) til we were ready to start having visitors.

I really wasn't up to it last week. DH and I have also agreed we'll welcome visitors 3 eves per week (mornings are mow my call) and that weekends are just for us. Trying to preserve our sanity..DH back at work tmrw and he can't deal with visitors everyday (he is recovering from depression and needs some peace).

Engelsmeisje · 26/10/2011 01:42

and we put on our birth cards that "Mama and Max are resting between 12 and 16.00.

you need your sleep Awen!

Engelsmeisje · 26/10/2011 02:24

Penelope?s question way back on page one on who does feeds got me thinking about sleeping arrangements. How many of you have turfed out your DH/DP? (or ?moved out? of your bedroom yourself).

We?re planning on moving Max into the nursery and out of our room this weekend. Makes sense since DH is back to work tomorrow and I feed/change Max in the baby room anyway.

Sorry for my flurry of posts! Can you tell I?m catching up on the thread?!

Engelsmeisje · 26/10/2011 03:08

Still catching on page 1 conversation about feeding!
No cracked nipples for me (yet!) but my milk didn?t come in very quickly and Max lost too much weight in the first 3 days (he only fed once in the first 24 hours as he was nauseous from pooping in the amniotic fluid). When he finally did want to drink he wasn?t getting much for his trouble so the MW and kraamzorg got me to start expressing to stimulate my milk and supplement Max with some formula until my milk came in.

It worked?so well that I was soaking breast pad after breast pad at the weekend and ran out. Of courses all the shops are closed here non Sundays, so I had to resort to sanitary towels down my bra!!!

Max did have a side preference as well but he seems to have gotten over it. I can only feed him from the left rugby style and the right madonna style now anyway because MW told me not to lay him on his right side because of his collarbone.

I?m finding vests under long sleeved tops fine at the mo for feeding. Have some really good (and cheap) nursing bras from H&M.

Engelsmeisje · 26/10/2011 03:45

re: expressing, though it made me feel a bit like a dairy cow, I love having the option. Going to a family get together on Sunday(DHs family) and am going to express a bottle before we go. Not feeling quite brave enough for public BF yet!

okay, I have FINALLY caught up on the thread! Will try not to get so far behind again!

MamaMaiasaura · 26/10/2011 15:15

Smile got sleep!! Nice 3 he stretch last night and then another this morning. Few hours in-between. Feel like new woman and even thought a 4th might one day happen lol.

Re bedroom arrangements, it's tricky as ds2 still cosleeping. Dh not in with us so one of us has slept and makes sense it's him as I'm bfing and he needs to be awake for our ds's and work in 2 1/2 weeks.

He's taken boys out ALL day ( miss ds2 as longest we've been apart!) and I ignored doorbell and turned ringer off phone. Shut blinds and slept Grin also got ironing mountain done.

What would u all do? It's step - FIL 70th on Sunday, large family meal at very busy restaurant. I'm reluctant to go as Jessica will only be a week and I really don't fancy sitting on uncomfy chairs, leaking milk, in clothes either too tight or too small, while everyone passes Jessica around like a dolly. Goodness I am moany Grin lol
X

BB3 · 26/10/2011 16:04

Awen could you go and leave a bit early? Think it would be a shame not to go as it's a very special occasion (although completely understand your reservations).

Irishclaire · 26/10/2011 16:15

I'm back and feeling much better.... had a good chat with midwife's, health visitors, friends and family and it certainly helps to get it off your chest. I still have my teary moments especially when people show me too much sympathy. I have also been told by the midwives that I would definately have a c- section if I decide to have another baby.
MrsP81 -Don't feel bad, my little Austin lost 10% of his birth weight and has since gained 30g, 180g and is due to be weighted again on Saturday and I know by looking at him he will be back up to his birth weight of 11lbs 5oz! or more. Midwife said he had more to loose due to his large weight at birth. I have been feeding every 2 hours during the day and then he sleeps for at least 5 hours at night and that works well for both of us.

I am thinking of starting to express this week so that DP can start getting involved with feeding and also just for the convienience when we are out. I know they reccommend waiting until 4-6 weeks before doing so to avoid confusion. Austin is 2 weeks, really 4 weeks as he was 2 weeks overdue and he has a dummy which he hates during the day but loves at night and this hasn't confused him, what does everyone think?

He is a very farty baby, anyone else have this? He is difficult to wind, wondering if this is why he farts so much, they are nearly as loud as his Dads!

Thanks again to all who responded to my first thread, you really helped me : )

bilblio · 26/10/2011 17:48

Awen I think I'd go just to show my face, but say I was very tired and skip the meal. It's a good way to show Jessica off to a big bunch of people... and saves them all coming to your house in dribs and drabs. :) That's what I've been doing, people get to see Seth, but I still get peace and quiet at home.

irishclaire Glad you're feeling a better. Keep talking to people about it, but it's good to be reassured about the c-section if you choose to have more.

As for trumpy babies. Yep, I have one of them, he can eat and trump (big vibrating ones) all while sleeping, he doesn't burp much either.
So long as it's coming out one way I don't mind. DD was very colicky and I'd rather not go through that again... although Seth has been sick a few times and I don't do sick.
DD was only really sick on me once when she was tiny... she was 3 months old, and she did it in spectacular style in a motorway service station!

Irishclaire · 26/10/2011 19:24

Thanks Bilblio, the farts are quite funny and yes definately better than colic...Austin has only been sick once, when the midwife was there of course just as he was about to be weighed, my own fault for undressing him and moving him about too much after a feed. And he decided to pee and poo on the scales....
