Fleecy · 05/12/2011 09:01

Well L didn't sleep through last night - she seems to have developed a cold since going to bed last night and woke around 5 for a small comfort feed and cuddles. Not too bad though so still not complaining.

Can't believe people expect them to sleep through at this age! DS did and L now has 3 times but DD1 took 6mo and I would have thought that was more the average?

L still feeds every couple of hours in the day too.

LittlePebble · 05/12/2011 09:04

Engel Grin at changing snow tyres! We did have snow here last year first time in forever, this year we have a 4x4 and bags of salt in case so obviously it won't snow as we're prepared.
E is also feeding approx every 2 hrs in day and at least 2 times in night but can't imagine he's not getting enough nutrition the rate he's growing! I keep getting 'helpful' suggestions that I should give him a bottle of formula at night to make him sleep through but he's only 7 weeks old and waking twice to feed isn't too bad IMO?

Engelsmeisje · 05/12/2011 09:21

I think that people have just forgotten what it's like (all of my "helpful" suggestions have come from MIL and aunts who had their kids 25/30/40 years ago!).

Pebble Luckily DH didn't listen to me (as usual) and didn't change the tyres so we were okay. Makes me laugh how everyone here seems to have snow tyres when there are no hills, so driving in the snow is half as bad, whereas in the UK no one seems to have them. We live really close to the border with germany and there it's illegal NOT to have them if it's snowing!

GroovyRach · 05/12/2011 09:55

Can't remember who mentioned sleeping bags - I put S in one at 4 wks. She was a bit under the recommended weight etc but she was kicking all the blankets off through night! When she would wake for feed she was so cold! I have been leaving the heating on through night now as its been so cold! Was only 1 degree at 6pm last night so I dread to think what it dropped to overnight!

Well, have woke up to a winter wonderland!! Looks lovely Grin. So much snow forecast for rest of the week so I'm gonna venture out to shops and stock up on formula etc just incase we dont make it out for the next few days. Excited to wrap her up in big snow suit she got given as a gift. Will post a pic on fb later Smile

Have good day everyone xx

bilblio · 05/12/2011 11:49

We keep getting snow flurries, it's settling on top of the moor but nothing down here.
littlePebble I love the snow, but I think I'd be happy to live without it if I was living in Devon. I love that part of the country, shame it's too flipping far away! Oh for teleporters!

I'm grateful that the only helpful advice I get is from my Mum, who was a childminder for many years so is often right... or I can just tell her she's wrong :o
MIL appears slightly in awe of me BFing and realises we manage very well so keeps quiet (most of the time.) I don't think my SIL who lives nearer gets it quite as easy.

I've had a brainwave today which I'm going to share.
We have a double wardrobe and the top is full of DD's old clothes. I'm going to have to sell them or give them away, but there are some outfits that she looked so sweet in that I can't bear to part with them.
To save me from this situation again I'm going to make sure I get photos of Seth in all his cute outfits, which will make getting rid of them easier. I'll photograph DD's old outfits too. I've done this with old toys and ornaments before.

So save yourselves from lofts & wardrobes of baby clothes and take lots of photos!

MamaMaiasaura · 05/12/2011 14:23

Groovy - that was me with bag, did it help?

I looked down thread and oh my, I thinks brain is fried Grin just can't keep up. No snow here (new forest). Think we hit growth spurt here as she fed loads last night. Woke up Sunday to Jessica sucking my elbow lol. 6 week check today and wondering how much she weighs now as almost out of some 0-3! She's in little pinefore set from m&s today (Xmas one).

Been mad here, ds2 stuff with preschool, ds1 a&e yesterday after getting hurt under 5 lads at bottom of ruck. No broken bones phew. Tree and decs up. Shopping well in hand.
Builders in tomoz and hosp for me in morning.

Don't know where last 6 weeks have gone. Wish I had rested more as been non stop on go. Feel like newborn stage almost gone in a blur.

Jessica is cooing and gurgling now and clasps her hands and shoves them in her mouth. Very cute Smile

GroovyRach · 05/12/2011 15:26

Awen- not sure if sleeping bag helped, but I was happy to know that she would be snug through the night. I've been putting a blanket over the top too. I think they are def worth a try. She is always nice and warm when I take her out in the morning Smile

Had a nice trip to shops to get test of presents. Stocked up on formula so shouldn't have to leave house again for a few days. Snow was coming on heavy again on way home and car just made it up the hill into our street. Don't want to even think what it will be like in a few hrs!

I'm planning to put my tree up on friday. Thought of going up into loft to dig it all out!

BB3 · 05/12/2011 16:11

I WANT SNOW!!! i love winter and Christmas and snow and wake up like an excited child on Christmas day and any time It snows! We live near to Salisbury down south and hardly ever get snow it is chuffing freezing today took re kids out for a walk and had huge winter cardi/coat thing, uggs an snood on and still froze! sat on sofa with ds warning mickey mouse in pjs trying to warm up!

Can't remember who said about dh's - I love having dh home for company and for an extra pair of hands and just to have around as he works such intense hours but he does make it more difficult when it comes to the kids as he works on go slow when he has time off and we inevitably bicker when he doesn't do as I say help!

BB3 · 05/12/2011 16:12

Bloody iPhone - took the kids for a walk and watching mickey mouse!!!

TallyBear · 05/12/2011 20:33

We've also moved from blankets to sleeping bag as Seb likes to kick his little feet and wave his hands about. The only downside is that he is sometimes sick at night and it goes over the shoulder straps so it is constantly being washed. The first night we used it it lasted all of about 10 mins! Been looking on ebay for some more.

I also like having dh around for company and to help out.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/12/2011 20:59

I ordered another sleeping bag for same reason. Going to wrap it for Xmas Grin

Love having dh around and the kids do too, he's working from home tomorrow as I'm up hospital (discharged I hope) and builders in too.

Had 6 week check. I'm all ok tho BP was high at first 119/97! Went down tho to 118/89. Jessica now 12lb7oz, kept on 91st centile. 0-3 getting snug, chubby little baby Smile

GroovyRach · 05/12/2011 21:48

It's funny, my doc doesn't do a 'mother' 6 week check, just baby! The only thing she asked me was what contraception I was thinking about Hmm. It was all very rushed aswell. S didn't even get weighed. She just copied what health visitor had recorded from the week before!!

TallyBear · 05/12/2011 22:11

Any tips for getting a grizzly baby off to sleep?!!!

MamaMaiasaura · 05/12/2011 22:38

Nappy change, Massage, lots of milk, rubbing tummy, movement, too warm/cold... Umm brandy??! Wink

J was crying lots last night, she gets like that when needing poo and also when over tired.

She was asleep and just dream feeding as I type. Early start tomorrow

MamaMaiasaura · 05/12/2011 22:41

Groovy, that's not good. Important to check you are ok. She did mention contraception too... I think tiredness is contraception enough lol . She only weighed j as I'd not had her done for a while. Prpb won't again now for a few months. She measured her head circumference too.

MamaMaiasaura · 05/12/2011 22:43

Bb3 - I love Salisbury, so pretty (and not far from me either).

PenguinArmy · 05/12/2011 23:07

weekly weighing isn't recommended so don't worry about that

I think DS has just gone, although he's currently on my chest.

He gets more sicky by the day and is struggles with wind. 8 weeks tomorrow

GroovyRach · 05/12/2011 23:16

My doctors does a drop in clinic on a Wednesday morning so I might take her along to be weighed then I'll make it a monthly thing. I found some clothes in her wardrobe that she wore in her first 3 weeks of being here, they look so tiny now! I have decided to hang onto a few things, just to remind me that she once was that small. Oh how they grow up fast Sad. It's only been 9 and a 1/2 weeks aswell!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 05/12/2011 23:20

I've also had the "anti BFing" comments from MIL and my own gran, both of whom have said you shouldn't BF for more than 6 weeks Confused
I'm loved looking at the snow today although if it keeps up I'm really starting to panic as we are pretty skint already and dh can't work in this weather!
I'm same as groovy only thing doc/HV is interested in for mum is PND checks and contraception advice!
I still haven't received an appointment for M's 6 week check (she'll be 6 weeks on wed)
Xmas shopping now all done (excluding homemade gifts) all decs up and halfway through hampers for fair in Glasgow on Sunday! Starting to feel less panicky now Grin

I made my first ever homemade fishcakes tonight and they were delicious (salmon, crab & coriander) yum yum!! (v proud of myself)

Penelope1980 · 06/12/2011 06:27

groovy my 6 week check was really rushed too - I had a bunch of q's I didn't get the chance to ask it went so fast.

edward A isn't unsettled when DH is here, but because we end up sharing his care a lot more I find I really miss my baby by the end of the day and really crave some one on one time with him. Makes me wonder how I'll find staying with the ILs for a week over the christmas break.

I am currently packing for my first post baby trip, to see my sis graduate in a city an hour's flight away. I have never packed for a baby and am sure I'll forget something - what do you all think would be the worst thing to forget? That way I'll make sure I've packed it ...

CheshireDing · 06/12/2011 07:01

Gosh I am shocked at peoples relations saying there is not enough nutrition in breast milk or to start using bottles, I thought they only had bf babies in the old days Grin. The only "boob" comment I had was at the beginning from MIL saying "are your breasts sore", in front or DH and FIL. Everyone was disturbed and I told her I was not answering that question whilst DH was busy telling her off for being so personal.

Lost the plot on Friday night though with DH, P has been doing a similar thing to what you said Fleecy, she wants feeding, she doesn't, she screams, I try winding her, she puts her hand in her mouth, trying feeding again, more screaming, then after about an hour she will feed. On Friday I asked DH to take her because of the screaming and she wouldn't settle, after 1 minute he gave her back saying she needed feeding (even though he knew what I had been trying to do), she carried on screaming, after about 40 minutes he then showed me a picture on the ipad (which he had been playing on the whole time) and I went MAD. To cut a long story short he apologised for not helping properly, I slammed a door, dog and cat were stressed, there were tears. We are over it now though and the screaming "phase" now seems to have gone too as we are back to our lovely happy, quiet baby. Fingers crossed.

I can't believe people think they will sleep through the night now, really? I just thought it was normal that P usually wakes around 1am, 3am, 6am-ish. I get her bathed at 7.30am and then we are dog walking until 9am, then she has a feed and hopefully a morning sleep. I have no afternoon routine at the moment though. I might see if her head is big enough for the sleeping bag tonight now as it is so cold.

Ate 4 doughnuts last night and a small glass of bubbly.

Sorry that post was all me, me, me!

Engelsmeisje · 06/12/2011 09:05

Have had a dream 24 hours with M. At least 3 hours between each feed and he slept through from 11.45pm til 4.30! I'm totally sold on the sleeping bags! I think that during the day I was feeding him everytime he really cried, and that's why there were such small gaps between feeds, and when he did feed he was constantly latching on and off. Now trying to keep it at 3 hours...using the dummy or rocking him if he gets too grizzly. This way he's properly hungry when he feeds so he is drinking enough and no latching on/off all the time.

Phew! Feeling pretty human again!

Re: having DH/DP around.... We've just been to the GP this morning for DH. he's been suffering from depression this year and things had got better, but in the last month everything seems to have gone downhill again. GP has referred him to be assessed as he'd rather not go on medication if he can help it. Makes things more difficult sometimes at home - I'm trying to be supportive, but sometimes I want HIM to look after ME. He's working half days and there's a part of me that's resentful that he's here during MY maternity leave(and then I feel selfish for thinking that). But I feel really positive after our appointment today, and him being around more means that he will get to see more of M in these first few months. I'm encouraging him to put M to bed with me, and make sure that there's at least one feed a day that's EBM so that he do his bit and feel included.

He's going down to 4 days in January anyway (here both parents have the right to take parental leave...though in DH's case it's unpaid. I'm public sector so I get a certain amount of paid parental leave when my maternity leave is over, means I only have to teach for 2 days for the rest of the school year rather than 4).

Anyway, feeling positive for the future...

have a good day ladies.

GroovyRach · 06/12/2011 15:09

Is there another growth spurt around 9/10 weeks? S has slept and ate all day Hmm. Bed last night at 10.30pm, I woke her this morning at 9.40, had a bottle change and back to sleep for 40 mins. Another bottle at 12pm and 1 1/2 hr sleep, another bottle at 2.30pm and has been sleeping again for 20 mins so far. Seems a bit much? I know she has days every few weeks where she just seems to sleep, wake for bottle and sleep again. Not sure of I should be concerned or use the time to watch some crap tv Grin

bilblio · 06/12/2011 21:05

engels Getting DH more involved is likely to be good for him, and M. DH suffered with depression for years, he never got treatment. When DD arrived it was make or break and he's a changed man now. The biggest step is recognising he has a problem. And Hurrah for a bit of routine. It makes life so much easier.

Cheshire I had a similar blowout with DH a couple of weeks ago. All forgotten now, and he does seem to be doing more. I hope you DH does too.

Penelope Nappies! I always forget them, thankfully they're easy to buy. I tend to forget things for me. Also put a clean top in hand luggage for you, DD wasn't a sicky baby but I did one trip smelling of baby sick and that was enough to make me always pack a spare. I needed it today too when I leaked everywhere. Blush

Groovy don't worry, just enjoy it. That's all Seth ever does, it makes me feel guilty when I read about how much other babies are awake... then I remember what DD was like so figure it's karma and I've earned it. :o

He's had his tongue tie cut today, but sleep wise it's been pretty typical. He went to sleep about 11:30 last night, woke at 5am, fed for 20 minutes, then straight back to sleep. Woke at 8am, fed, changed, I left him laid on changing mat in his gro-bag while we sorted DD for school. He fell asleep, woke about 10:30am fed again and dozed on me until 1pm when I decided to wake him and bath him ready to go out. He was awake until 2:30, then slept in the car to the hospital, and through the mad dash being carried in the rain... and the long wait in the waiting room. Woke at 4pm, for food, fed him a little then he went in for tongue tie snip. Fell asleep while feeding after that, woke up when we were stuck in traffic 10 minutes from home, fed and slept as soon as we got in and he's been dozing on and off since. He'll doze, feed and have random alert moments until about 11 when we go to bed.

I suspect on an average day he's asleep for at least 20 hours. They need sleep for brain development. I may have the next Einstein sleeping on my chest :o

Tongue tie snip went well. They said it was a posteria tongue tie so he couldn't get his tongue far enough out, and his tongue would bunch up in the middle. My nipples always looks like a lipstick shape normally when he's fed because they're pressed on the hard palate but they don't now. We still get clicks, but I think now it's been cut we can work on positioning again. He's been a bit unsettled this evening, but he's finally caught the cold the rest of us have had so it could be that.

Engelsmeisje · 07/12/2011 07:46

It's good to hear from someone who's been through it biblio. I think I had convinced myself that it was all just linked to his issues with work (many of which have been solved/helped this year with his sessions with the coach) and our problems trying to conceive, so naively thought that everything would be fine now, but it goes deeper than that.

Glad to hear that the tongue tie snip went well.

Penelope I have the same problem with packing! We're heading to the UK in 2 weeks and am stressing over what to take (will I have enough clothes/clothes?) and whether it'll fit in the car! DH has reminded me that a) we have a washer/dryer in the cottage we've rented, b) they DO have shops in England, even if they're closed on Christmas day and c) we always end up taking way too many clothes for ourselves, so we should pack a little lighter this year!

It is miserable here this morning - still pitch black, torrential rain, high winds, I swear I heard some thunder a while back. Scratch that, I can DEFINTELY hear thunder now! Just saw a flash of lightning!

Put M back tsleep after his 7am feed so I could have a shower and enjoy my breakfast. Going to the MW today for 6 week check (even though he's 7 and half weeks...I wasn't very organised with making my appt!) and then picking up M's ID card.

I'm going to try and tidy my lounge so I can put up our Christmas tree. Even though we're not going to be here for Christmas, it just wouldn't be right not to have it up! Plus I really need to sort my Christmas cards and wrap my presents to get in the mood.

have a good day ladies.
