Edward we tried P with the dummy last week with the intention of using it for emergencies (i.e. driving alone and she is going beserk in the back). P was not interested and GP said often bf babies don't take dummies.

However, we tried again last night whilst I was holding her and she was in a good mood. After gently holding it in her mouth for a few seconds she kept hold of it and started sucking it herself. TBH I have no idea if she will take it when she is having a flailing arm tantrum in the car but I am just going to try it with her for a few times (only for about 1 minute max) when she is in a good mood with the hope that if necessary she will take it in emergency.

BB3 · 29/11/2011 12:16

Hey sassy nice to have you back, so glad Jacob is living having a sister (also glad ds is not the only terror jumping behind sofas and checking out his throwing skills!).

Dummies are my saviour - I would literally be climbing the walls without mine for the girls. They still don't love them but neither did ds!!

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 29/11/2011 12:33

Thanks for the advice it hadn't occured to me to try when she was in a good mood, I've only ever tried when everything else hasn't worked so perhaps she's already in too much of a strop to take it?
Will try today, M also has massive tantrums in the car, she doesnt like car seat unless it's moving so anytime we stop at lights etc she goes crazy.

Ds is so good with her I'm so proud of him, anytime I ask Him to do something he says no I'm keeping an eye on my sister. He cuddles into her all the time it's lovely.

We gt our first pics as a family of 4 at the weekend, they look lovely. Will try posting some on my profile.

GroovyRach · 29/11/2011 12:39

I've gave Sophia a dummy to but to be honest, she sucks it for a few mins then drops it. Seems to be finding her thumb more so is tryin to get the hang of getting it into her mouth! At night I give her dummy when I put her to bed but when I falls out I dont give it back unless she cries for it. They are good for car journeys as well when it's not easy to reach them if it all kicks off!!!

My mum has takin S for a few hours to let me get house tidied Blush. I have a woman coming 2mrw to do S fingerprints to put onto a charm for my mums Christmas. My friend had one done with her 4 daughters and I loved it! Not working out to cheap mind you, but it's one of those things you will cherish forever. I'm having one done too. Tomorrow is perfect as S will be 2 months old exactly! Wow, where does the time go!!

Can't remember who said it, but I love all the noises she is making now! Lots of gurgles and even few wee 'shouts' to get my attention if I leave the room! Started this week given a little baby laugh. It's so lovely to hear!!

Right, on with the housework Grin xx

sassy34264 · 29/11/2011 12:50

thanks bb3

i had a dummy with dd1 and she had it till she was 4 and even then i had to prise it off her. gave dummies to twins and found them to be more trouble than they are worth. they kept falling out their mouths and then they would scream house down until i put them back......repeat rhis every 2mins and it was a nightmare. fortunately when i got thrush i had to throw them all away and by the time i had got rid of it from my nipples and their mouths they werent bothered about them and i never bought them again. bought eva a 2 pack on sun night as she does a lot of rooting despite being fed and fed and fed and even throwing up. but she pulled a right disgusted face. i think she wasnt mad keen on the plastic taste. i did sterilse it but shes not having it.

cheshire your boobs will just be squishy all the time eventually. they only go hard if there is a long time between feeds. so if my body is telling them eva feeds every 4 hours and then suddenly she sleeps for 7 (i wish) then they go hard cos they have produced milk for 2 feeds. mine are squishy all the time and were with the twins but eva still gags at the fast flow for the first few sucks. if they're not crying after a feed then they have enough. sometimes even if they are it can still be that they've had enough, they could just have wind or like the sucking. i personally wouldnt let eva suck for more than 30mins on one boob cos i doubt they're would be any milk in. i usually pull her off and press down and in on it to see. if no milk comes out, i will just swop boobs if shes still hungry.

MrsP81 · 29/11/2011 13:14

DD also won't take a dummy. I have been trying to use it to settle her sometimes instead of continual sucking on me just so I can try and grab some shut eye but she's not having any of it!

Had a horrible last night, had just settled A when she started doing this awful cough and then projectile vomited everywhere. She also choked on it a bit which was quite scary. Sad It doesn't seem to bother her though and then she just wanted to feed feed feed to fill up her empty tummy. From what I've read, if your baby is a happy spitter/puker then it's just "normal" reflux and you don't really need medicine. I am worried about the choking bit though so I think a trip to the doctors is in order.

She also hasn't smiled yet and I really wish she would!

cheshire have you heard of the Wonder Weeks? It's where the baby goes through a fussy phase because they are having an internal development leap and one of them is at 8 weeks so that could explain the sleep regression your DD is having.

PenguinArmy · 29/11/2011 13:37

well after everything I said yesterday DS has entered his growth spurt a full week late. Any 90mins-2hrs feeds are gone, he's taking both sides (normally only one) and on for at least 15mins compared to 5 max. Normally he gas one side between midnight and 5am feeds but last night he had 3 times both sides. He's not grizzly with it... yet.

I found the 6 week growth spurt with DD horrendous, constant crying and switch feeding. That was my only wibble with bf, felt I was starving her and had to really hold onto the faith.

edward personally I think you did the best thing, but then again I'm lying down now with DS feeding and we co-sleep so do that a lot.

OP posts:
PenguinArmy · 29/11/2011 13:38

oh I'd say it took DD a week to get hang of the dummy. Not bothering so far with DS but he's not as sucky and crying as she was.

OP posts:
TallyBear · 29/11/2011 14:35

I don't get babies! Seb was crying and hungry; I put him down while I prepared his bottle and he fell asleep! He's been really grizzly recently and hard to settle so I don't want to wake him.

We've also succumbed to a dummy. Feel a bit guilty and trying not to use it too much but he really likes it. Trouble is he keeps dropping it and cries his little heart out. Steriliser is working overdrive. (Dreading leccy bill!)

Does anyone else find themselves watching far too much daytime tv? I can't stand the silence otherwise.

Blimey it's miserable out there. Looks like we are in for the day.

EdwardorEricCantDecide · 29/11/2011 15:36

tally I'd kill for some adult daytime tv ds switches between DVDs and Disney junior all day, he doesn't even watch it but goes crazy if I turn it over Confused

My whole family seem to have cold ATM except M. The boys are really playing it up can't believe Christopher knows about manflu at 2.5yrs lol

emmazed · 29/11/2011 16:05

J loves a dummy, but he is a very sucky baby. he wont have it when he is hungry though, only if he is crying from over tiredness. i find it is a good check to see what the matter is if he suddenly starts crying lots but he has only fed relatively recently.

he has the best sleep last night (11.30 until 6am) which is fantastic, but now i am worried because today he has been sleeping almost all day. i have had to wake him for his feeds, and he drops off as soon as he has been fed. he is usually awake for several hours each day, but today i just cant keep him awake at all. he seems happy enough when he is awake (to be fed) so i wonder if he is sleeping off a growth spurt? anyone else' baby suddenly slept loads during the day? as he is not at all distressed i presume he isn't ill.

aside from that, all good - we had our 6 week check at the Dr this morning and all was good. he is in the 91st percentile for height, but the 50th for weight - i am really small, so i doubt he will be the tallest for long!

PenguinArmy · 29/11/2011 20:06

growth spurt and period pain...fun Hmm

edward doesn't matter if they're hourly feeders, they can still up it for at 24hrs and counting

OP posts:
BB3 · 29/11/2011 21:47

Oh I'm dreading the return of period pain! Well periods full stop! They cane back quite quickly with ds but he was a 'snacker' feeding quickly but more often.

The girls won't take dummies if they're upset - I mostly use them to distract them for five minutes and stop rooting at me constantly!

Went off to zumba tonight (then came back and ate a fair few milk tray chocolates!!!) but am now feeling very stiff! Hoping girls have a good night but as Edith may is still awake so looking unlikely Hmm x

GroovyRach · 29/11/2011 23:24

My tummy is getting a wee bit crampy so expecting my period pretty soon. I stopped bleeding 2 wks after birth, but then 2 wks later, bled for another week. Was exactly 4 wks after birth so I have in my mind that it was my first one, but don't know for sure.

S is getting the hang of self settling now at night. Iv givin up just now trying to get her down into bed at decent time, but is generally sleeping for the night around 10.30pm. I put her in basket tonight when she started to get sleepy around 10ish. Was fairly happy so left her while I tidied up. Went back to check on her as it had went quiet amd she was out! 3rd night in a row now so fingers crossed it continues! All you ladies how are in the weeks of growth and no sleep, it will get better. I thought it was never gonna happen!!

CheshireDing · 30/11/2011 06:13

MrsP I have never heard of The Wonder Weeks but I hope that means at this rate P will be getting a place at Oxford! Grin

Since 8pm she has cried, messed about, slept in bits and not gone to sleep without a performance in grunting, blanket throwing, she has not fed without messing and I am (sort of) glad it's morning and everyone else will be getting up now.

Need Starbucks, boo hoo

LittlePebble · 30/11/2011 08:08

Morning all,
sassy nice to have a catch up i wondered how you were getting on with twins as well!
BB3 eek at Zumba I feel very bad now at doing no exercise yet Blush.
Eli has started making sounds too they're so cute, and since the growth spurt on Friday I can express a whole ounce more in one sitting so it obviously worked. Boobs are now even bigger though does this carry on over the next few months? Hmm
Not a great night last night but four hours the night before so things are (slowly) getting better Grin

sassy34264 · 30/11/2011 12:34

thanks pebble

i hadnt finished bleeding from c section and got my period last week!!!!
was so peeved off. decided to go and get the coil put in again on my next one. dp has mentioned vasectomy but heart and head having an argument about whether i want more kids. Grin

got my 6 week check up this afternoon. i jogged to the shop last night (its only about 3mins away) and made it. going to see how far i can get tonight.

PenguinArmy · 30/11/2011 13:52

first time around I bled for 6 weeks than had period 4 weeks later. I've wondered (in hindsight naturally) whether I had actually started it 4 weeks previous.

I need to find some exercises I'm allowed and want to do. I'm going munro bagging in April though, can't wait.

Can't believe I forgot how intense growth spurts could be

OP posts:
GroovyRach · 30/11/2011 15:12

I'm desperate to get back to gym! Thinking next week I'll look into classes. Got my friends wedding in April so want to be back in shape by then Grin

My wee Sophia is 2 months today Smile. Can't believe how fast the time has went. Done some footprints while she was sleeping to add to her scrapbook. Aww lol

Hope everyone is good xx

GroovyRach · 30/11/2011 17:58

Those of u with babies around the 7/8/9 week, are they sleeping for hours on end through the day? S has days when she will just nap for 30 mins at a time and others like today where she slept from 11am till 3.30! Has been awake since but getting tired and grumpy again! We have 6 wk check 2mrw(even tho she is almost 9!) so can ask then I suppose

TallyBear · 30/11/2011 18:55

OK, I need the low-down on growth spurts. What's the deal? Seb is 5 weeks tomorrow so I guess will be due one shortly. Any advice from anyone doing formula would be great (do I just keep feeding? How can i tell the difference between him being hungry and windy? I always struggle with that one.)

Seb's only napped briefly since waking at 12pm so fingers crossed he will sleep well tonight.

We had another explosive poo incident today. That's the end of reusable nappies in this household - about 80% of it ended up in his sleepsuit rather than the nappy. It filled the leg! I didn't know where to start cleaning!

GroovyRach · 30/11/2011 19:24

Tallybear- I'm formula feeding S. I think she has went through a few growth spurts. At 6wks she was feeding every 2 1/2 hrs about 4oz (if I remember correctly) but im sure after 2 hrs she was screaming for more! I just offered and if she took it, that was fine.

Oh and I know it prob wasn't fun at the time, but the nappy story made me laugh! Lol. Happened to me a few wks ago, it was everywhere! Had to put her in bath while my mum showered her down!! Ah the joys lol Smile

sassy34264 · 30/11/2011 19:36

i dont know how you manage to notice differences in feeding and sleeping?! to my mind there is no rhyme or reason to anything eva (or the twins at the time) do. its all here and there. i just go with the flow.

the poo up the back and down the legs is not confined to reusable nappies im afraid tallybear. i use disposables and i would say its happened to eva at least 5 times. i even managed to get some in her hair trying to get the vest off.....yuk! putting them under the shower or in the bathroom sink is the only option!

BB3 · 30/11/2011 19:37

tally we have those sort of poos with disposables. Edith may had such tiny chicken legs it just fell out into the foot!!! Weve had a few leaks in the reuseables but nothing quite as big - however I have got shares in vanish. We got some plastic outters for their reusables and we've had no problem since.

I never know when girls are going through growth spurt i think I always seem to be feeding so don't notice too much! I got them weighed yesterday and ede who was always the lightest by about 5-6oz put on a whopping 20oz in 2 weeks and is now 10'10, Ayse-Rose is 10'6 they're 10 weeks old (yesterday) and finally in 0-3 clothes!!!

sassy34264 · 30/11/2011 19:39

eva

tell me if this works?
