OMG Shock at the wallaby story, feel very Sad for the other wallaby, I'm not surprised he was visibly distressed.

P's chicken pox are healing and she seems more herself now. The itching has eased up. What with DS as well we've had over 3 weeks stuck at home. Normal service will be resumed on Monday. Hallelujah.

DH has taken DS to his parents for lunch today so I'm having a nice quiet few hours with P. She very kindly obliged by playing on her mat for an hour whilst I did some ironing and flicked through the TV channels. We watched some Dancing With The Stars. Ricki Lake did a very good Tango to the music of Psycho. I didn't know who any of the other celebrities were but apparently one was Cher's son as the camera kept zooming in on her looking "mummy proud" in the audience.

P is busy doing a "poo face" so I'd best go and investigate.

DairyBeetle · 22/10/2011 15:30

I'm sat watching S play with a wooden spoon, pan, measuring jug and some weaning spoons, it's very cute. I actually find it really interesting seeing how he plays has changed since he mastered sitting up.

That poor wallaby Sad I can never understand how people can do things like that, I feel terrible when I stand on the cats tail when they try and trip me up I can't imagine really hurting one of them.

Frak I have also found 'poo time' rather amusing of late. My laughter couldn't be contained when S experienced the effort required for a more solid poo, but wouldn't let this deter him from his cucumber munching. The facial expressions were brilliant!

GGF had Cher's face actual changed to show emotion?! I didn't realise she was still able to move enough of her face! [hgrin]

Cyclebump · 22/10/2011 16:52

Went to the bunny park. The remaining wallaby looked very sad. Sad

Police were there talking to staff though so hopefully they're taking it seriously.

Hurray GGF! Enjoy a pox free future!

I'll join you in giggling at poo Frak and Dairy, auntie Lyn was over to see H and we were in fits of giggles over the straining while H ate some toast.

BuckminsterFullerene · 22/10/2011 23:22

F's got a fever. I've just given him 2.5ml calpol and some nasal spray ( which hasn't helped his mega snot).

Any suggestions/recommendations for tonight? Should I move him into our room?

Cyclebump · 23/10/2011 05:38

If there's snottage it might be worth propping the mattress up with a rolled up towel under the head end. That seems to help H.

I've been up since 5 again, H just seems to think that it's an acceptable wake up time Sad

Sassy20 · 24/10/2011 06:27

What a horrendous nights sleep! Nothing to do with L who's been asleep since 7.30pm only waking briefly at 3 but down to the fact that when got up to settle her back to sleep I could not get back to sleep myself! I have been lying in bed since 3am wide wake but I know the minute L wakes up I'll be exhausted and ready to sleep. Bloody insomnia. Angry

Starshaped · 24/10/2011 07:15

Sassy You have my complete sympathy. Insomnia is horrid. Fingers crossed you have a better night tonight.

Cyclebump · 24/10/2011 07:32

Hope you're ok this morning Sassy, I hate it when that happens.

Sassy20 · 24/10/2011 07:46

Thank you for the tactful wait Cycle. Glad someone got a good nights sleep though. Smile Star I've got everything crossed that I sleep better tonight!

Cyclebump · 24/10/2011 11:02

Armani has struck for my boasting...

Decided to do housework as DP is sitting tonight so I can go out. Managed to pull the coat rack out of the wall trying to get the Hoover down, then called him home in a panic because the boiler 'wasn't working'. I'd hit the off switch with the box of laundry detergent when I was doing the washing Blush

I'm actually an idiot, who knew?

JKSLtd · 24/10/2011 11:09

LOL Cycle [hgrin]

Well, DD has been sleeping very well - i've been tactfully quiet about it [hwink] but the last 4 nights she's been up at 4am, yawn.
I thought she wouldn't be hungry so tried to resettle her the first couple of times, got her in bed with us in case she was cold, etc.
Have now given in and am just feeding her straight away.
Which feels like a big backwards step.
And this morning/last night she wouldn't go straight back to sleep either, so ended up feeding her twice.

Then, Sassy, my sympathies, i couldn't get back to sleep either, why the hell not, i was knackered?!
Then the boys got up at 6.15 which is early for them, so begged DH to get up with them even though he has along work day today. I managed to get back to sleep for another hour or so thankfully.

Every night now Im praying she'll go back to sleeping through! Unfortunately I am one of life's pessimists...

chillikat · 24/10/2011 12:37

cycle that's really awful about the wallaby :(

We've had a few really bad nights too. Lots of wake ups every hour or two, sometimes she'll go back down easily, sometimes not. I think it might be poo related as she's been looking like she was trying before bed but nothing. I'm still struggling to get enough liquid into her - any advice? She seems to think water in a sippy cup is for swilling round the mouth and spitting out.

Misssing naps probably isn't helping either. At PIL over the weekend I kept saying she was tired but MIL kept squeaking a toy in her face, commenting "she's really fighting it isn't she?" Hmm I've now worked out the correct response to that is "no, she's telling us she wants a nap and we need to help her settle" (wish me luck on doing that next time)

Cyclebump · 24/10/2011 12:50

It's good being a pessimist JKS, we're never disappointed!

Hmmm, we have a Tommee Tippee 'Tip it up' sippy cup Chilli and that seems to work. It has a silicone teat that H has to squeeze with his gums to get the water out. It's a nice bridge between bottle and cup I reckon.

architien · 24/10/2011 13:11

Lovely Video Fizz

R has had banana, grapefruit, carrot, potato and apple so far. She started weaning last Sunday. She has also started saying "Mamaaaa" and "Dada" then chatting for ages from 4:30am, which incidentally is wake up time for the day.

Another vote for the fed up with husbands/partners not getting time off to help, DH only off yesterday then back in to the 7am-8:30pm daily for the week :(

F was introduced to chocolate this week (bribery & corruption in aid of potty training efforts...which isn't working either) which he calls "docdete" v. cute :)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 24/10/2011 13:33

Hello everyone :) We got back from holiday yesterday, had the weekend at my parents on the way home and they looked after the boys on Saturday night while we went out for dinner for our anniversary. It was lovely, really nice to be just us, and fabulous food.
Holiday was good, but exhausting. We are going to stick to hotels only for the next 2-3 years I think, to get maximum rest!!

Fizz - hope B's arm is ok?

Buck&Star - T has slept on his front for about 3 months now, his head control was brilliant and he was already pushing himself up on his arms so we went for it because he slept so much better.

Cycle - :( about the wallaby, that is really really awful :(

We had a horrid night's sleep here last night. T wouldn't settle until quite late, and then he was awake more than he was asleep it felt like. He's teething, again (9 teeth now), and crawling and now trying to pull himself up on things. He just won't slow down for a moment but has no spacial awareness and so bangs into things all the time.
I need to give him more dinner I think, he ate a whole Weetabix for breakfast this morning with a huge BF either side.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/10/2011 13:36

I can recommend a doidy cup. It's an open cup which is slanted. I alternate I with a sippy and a doidy. At this age they are able to use an open cup, they sort of lap at it much like a cat!

Chilli- I can relate to the squeaky toy shoved into a tired baby's face story. My in laws are terrible for doing it and it drives me nuts.

Keep the faith JKS, your lo has always been a good sleeper so hopefully this is just a blip.

Ds2 is off to his granny's this avo so me and I are going to take a trip to Sainsbo's. Woo, we know how to enjoy ourselves here!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 24/10/2011 13:40

X-post Ali, glad you had a nice time away.

I eats a lot for breakfast too. I remember the times when ds2 would eat 2 weetabix for breakfast. I think it was when he was crawling everywhere, at full speed, all day! I remember being amazed that this baby was eating the same amount of breakfast as me!

BuckminsterFullerene · 24/10/2011 14:35

Ali 9 teeth!! wow! I thought F's nearly-six was impressive (or painful, depending on who you are). Thanks for the confirmation of the front-sleep club, we haven't had such a good night as thursdays again yet, but each time he's woken up coughing over the last few nights he's dropped right off to sleep. Although, he's now not happy about sleeping in the pushchair (I've just discovered, because fortunately we don't use it that much any more).

And crawling and pulling up?!

Cycle we've got both kinds of TT cup, F doesn't 'get' either of them. Although hopefully a couple of days of watching his cousin use the sippy cup will have helped (although no evidence so far!). We've also got an open handled cup, which he can use as long a he doesn't try to hold it himself - because then he flings it around and drenches everything!

F's down for a nap in his cot, no idea how long he'll sleep for, but it's half term, all our visitors have gone, the airer's already loaded, the dishwasher's already on. Not sure what I can do with myself, except watch tv, mn (on an actual computer) and eat biscuits! Actually, that's not bad!

Oh, and Cycle, thanks for the snot-tip - we've already got the cot raised at the head end for his reflux. I really think having him on his front & letting it drain all over the sheets out has been the best thing. And a bunch of calpol! (I might have started panicking the other night, imagining febrile fits, etc. I regained rationality eventually!)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 24/10/2011 16:38

Buck - I meant to say don't worry about the lack of rolling. DS1 was somewhere between 7-8 months when he first rolled, and almost 11 months old when he crawled.
I was fully expecting T to be the same, and I wish he wasn't so mobile just yet, I am exhausted chasing round after him.

DairyBeetle · 24/10/2011 20:16

Gaaaahhh! I've just realised that my milk is going foul when frozen and stored. I'm assuming its high in lipase but it's so annoying. I have a freezer draw full of unpalatable milk that S (understandably) won't take. It's probably a key part of his bottle/cup refusal and the battle they're having at the nursery getting to take even the smallest amount of milk. Anyway, I'm going to check what I pump tomorrow and see what it's like after just fridge storage overnight otherwise I guess we'll be moving over to formula during the day. I'm a bit miffed to say the least, not just because poor S has been having rancid milk 4 days a week, but also because I have a freezer draw of unusable milk Sad

On a more positive note S has mastered clapping [hsmile]

Ali Good to hear you had a good holiday! And I hope T slows down a bit so you don't have to chase so much!

Buck S doesn't really 'get' the sippy cup yet either (though he does when it comes to tipping it on the floor [hhmm] ). I'm ordering a doidy cup as he seems more interested when we've tried an open cup. Anyway enjoy your half term!

What else was I going to say...oh yeah, when snottage was at its worst I tied a muslin to the cot and dotted it with Karvol (worked so well that I put one our bedhead this weekend as DH has been ill had man flu )

JKSLtd · 24/10/2011 21:01

Dairy - how do you know it's going off?
If you are following the standard storage instructions there's no reason it should.

DairyBeetle · 24/10/2011 21:21

JKS - the smell and the taste. I'd made S a BM lolly last week so he'd have something cold to knaw on and it smelt like vomit. Checked the bag of milk the DH had been using on Friday (defrosted that morning) and that also smelt bad so I had a taste and it wasn't good. Today I tested three bags from the freezer (defrosted in the fridge) and they all tasted horrid, ranging from metalic-y to actually made me retch. Nothing was older than 6 weeks.

After reading up a bit apparently some people just produce milk higher in lipase (hope I'm spelling that right), and when it's stored the lipase can affect the taste of the milk (though it's still ok, won't make anyone ill, just doesn't smell/taste nice), the longer its stored the worse it can get. Some babies don't care, others are more picky. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that if we can use it within 24 hrs without freezing (so what I pump at work will go with S to nursery next day so will be fine in the fridge) it will taste ok.

It will be very annoying if I'm going to have to pump and dump at work as when I've tried to not pump I get woozy like Mastitis is starting, oh the joys of over supply!

DairyBeetle · 24/10/2011 21:23

Oh, and I should clarify, it's not actually 'off' but smells and tastes it.

JKSLtd · 24/10/2011 21:24

Wow Dairy never heard of that how soul destroying. as well as bloody annoying going forward.
I had a moment earlier when packing my expressed milk for the milk bank (taking it in tomorrow) that i though a whole load was over 3 months old & they wouldn't take it. Then realised it's October not November Hmm Blush

So how awful for you to have to chuck any away :(

JKSLtd · 24/10/2011 21:31

Dairy - after a quick Google, there seems to be hope if you can scald the milk soon after expressing, have you seen those?
Not sure how well it would work at work, though there is the option of microwaving but that seems to be less than ideal and changes the BM maybe too much. But maybe worth a go to taste yourself and see if it stops it souring.
