placemarking - thread is getting too long for phone, or phone is too old Hmm

H wasn't too keen at breakfast either Jo, we started with dinner first. Breakfast wise I made up yoghurt and fruit purée at first so if he didn't want it I ate it Smile

Sounds scary Fizz, glad all is ok. Oh and... I have never owned an ironing board. There, I said it.

caramellokoalalover · 19/10/2011 16:03

Star how's the rolling antics going? S had a rough few nights when she learnt to roll onto her tummy in the cot. It settled down and she started sleeping on her tummy then when she learnt to roll back the other way she had another few days unsettled sleep too. It seems to be all calm now. Hope P gets over the new trick soon!

Yay for teeth kitty! Hope you got more sleep now the tooth is through.

MrsW S can't sit up unaided yet either (she's 26wks). I'm sure they'll get there eventually.

Thanks for the BLW thread link Gsy. I'll meander over when I start giving S more food. So far she's had a few green beans, some bread and some asparagus. I need to get the highchair insert sorted as she's too teeny for it at the moment.

Jo glad C slept a little better last night. Great news on his reflux too, glad you found things that helped. S is much improved too. She's still quite a spew monkey but not in any pain with it anymore. She still only drinks tiny amounts too (3 or 4ox max at a time) and nowhere near what's recommended for her age, but like C she's got chubby cheeks and seems happy and alert so I'm not too worried. BLW mantra is 'food under one is just for fun' so I'm not going to pay too much attention to how much food she eats when I start weaning. Remind me of this in a few months time when I'm worrying, won't you Smile!

Fizz LOL at AM on MN. Did she have Pombears in her handbag too? Grin Glad B's elbow is ok after some popping and prodding

MrsWajs · 19/10/2011 21:25

Ok spoke to HV today and she has said that as little as 16ozs a day is ok for LOs still to be getting enough vitamins but if it were to drop below that they would then require vitamin drops. Her main advice was to drop 3 little meals back to 2 a day for now if R is finding it a struggle and try again in a few weeks. She also suggested I could give her 4 6ozs bottles a day instead of the 5 I've currently been trying to get down her and then reduce to 3 at around 8 months and 2 at 10 months and so on.
This morning she woke at 5.30am for the first time in ages, I put her dummy back in and left her for 5 mins, she didn't seem to be settling so I went downstairs and warmed a bottle for her, by the time I came back up she'd dropped off again!! Angry to say I was pissed off is an understatement, I then went to put the bottle on my bedside table and knocked over a glass of juice :(:( Went back to bed only for her to wake up again at 6.40am - gaaah! Fed her then and she slept til 9.45 Shock nice to get a long lie but it put the whole day up the spout! So after a bad start we had breakfast at 9.45 (6ozs feed and porridge) then I gave her some veg at 12 after her nap and decided to hold off on the milk til a bit later so she had around 4ozs at about 1.45pm and then drained another 6ozs at 4.30pm, she then had another nap and had some mashed banana at about 6pm for tea then held off for the last feed at 8.30pm and bed staright after that. Was a lot less stressful than trying to get her to eat when she doesn't want to although a little bit more time consuming as I'm basically feeding her every 2 hours one way or another. But if it means she's in a better routine then I'm happy. It also means bed time is a bit earlier as previously she would have had a nap about 7.30 and got up for a last feed at 8.30 but now she is skipping that nap and feeding slightly earlier so fingers crossed she sleeps through again tonight!
Sorry thats a whole load of waffle, if you've made it to the end well done :) Am off to amazon to look up highchairs.

BuckminsterFullerene · 19/10/2011 22:34

Wow, MrsW, that sounds complicated. I've got no idea how much milk F's taking, and he's only just starting to swallow solid food.

Fizz, what a nightmare, glad all is ok.

Sorry to not namecheck everyone. Hopefully I'll gain some brain function and use of the laptop next week. But here's wishing everyone... well, you know, better not mention it.

I decided today that tomorrow will be my last pumping sesh. F's now taking twice as much milk from the bottle than I can pump. So we've started some formula during the day. I'll still do morning & evening BFs. It doesn't seem so important now he's started solids.

He'll be 7 months next Friday. And he still doesn't roll!

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 19/10/2011 22:49

Would it be bad form to post a video of B on the FB site? New fangled phone does you tube! He is so mobile now! But it seems the thing he will move heaven and earth for is the remote!! Not any of the toys I My mum has bought!!

Plus the video shows that there has been no permanent damage done to his arm!

Buck be careful what you wish for with the rolling Wink

BuckminsterFullerene · 19/10/2011 23:02

You're right, Fizz.

Is it the sky remote? F's obsessed too. We have actual tantrums over it.

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 19/10/2011 23:08

Yep, what is it about remotes and mobiles with bababies? I've posted the clip! Please excuse the running commentary from me!

Starshaped · 20/10/2011 09:56

Well, the rolling over antics are continuing here. For the last two nights, I've heard a big squawk on the monitor and have gone in to find she's rolled over and is snoring on her front. What should I do? I've been loath to turn her over (and inevitably wake her) but have just checked the FSIDs website and it say that if babies are under 6 months, then you should turn them back over. We're not quite at the 6 month mark yet. Her head and neck control is excellent and she's really strong but I've not seen her roll from front to back yet. Hmmm, what to do....

I'm glad that our babies seems to be sleeping a little bit better at the moment. We had a few better nights of late too with only one night feed! DH has been doing a sterling job of resettling P before midnight and dropping the dream feed seems to have worked well so far. Last night he resettled her quite easily at 10pm and 12.10am, which meant she slept from 7pm - 2.40am. A record! I fed her then and she was up for about an hour, before going back down to 6.30ish. Somehow the long night time wake ups seem a bit more bearable when I'm only getting up once in the night. I'm sure we'll have a teething incident or a growth spurt to upset the applecart any day now though! Wink

Fizz I'm glad that B is ok. What a nightmare though. I'm sure it'll be the first of many rushed trips to the doctors for us Aprilites...

Purees seem to be going down quite well here. I have no idea how you BLWs are doing it though - I gave her a piece of avocado to chomp on yesterday and was absolutely terrified. I need to toughen up! Currently only giving her food at lunchtime and am planning to give her lots of little tastes of different fruits and vegs for the next week or so, and will then introduce breakfast when she hits the six month mark.

Gawd, sorry for the epic post. Congratulations for getting to the end of it!

JoEW · 20/10/2011 10:06

Great video Fizz, he is quite determined! I am going to try that later with my Blackberry. Currently C's toy of choice. Do you think B might be less interested if he was allowed some room in his baby gym? Your DH seems to be hogging it somewhat....

Thanks for the info MrsW, I read your whole post! I am pretty sure my HV was talking rubbish, having talked to other people and also done a bit of internet research. Also, C has multivitamins, iron supplement and folic acid daily - all prem babies do for the first year - so he's already covered there. If the doctor contradicts her too I think I might put in a complaint about her. Grr.

We had C awake from half three to half four last night. He's now got a cold and was all snotty and upset, so I just held him and cuddled until he went back to sleep. Poor little chap. Not going to help much with sleep training though. Maybe he'll just stop doing it soon (optimisitic icon).

No sitting up here yet but some rolling now and again, when he can be bothered. C is 26 weeks, corrected.

Congratulations on the end of pumping Buck!

Caramel, great news that S isn't in pain anymore. It's easier to deal with all the other feeding challenges when at the very least they're not screaming when you feed them.

Good idea for breakfast, Cycle, thanks. I have been seen polishing off Ella's Kitchen lentil gloop. It was lovely.

JoEW · 20/10/2011 10:08

X posts, Star. Great news on better nights. Fingers crossed it continues.

kittycatcat · 20/10/2011 15:07

fizz glad all is well

cycle never?? How??

mrsw that's all v helpful as I'm getting stressed with s feeds as he's also dropping bottle feeds and the amount he takes. He put on almost a pound in a fortnight so guess I should chill.

S now has 2 teeth. Started rolling yesterday and still isn't settling. He will sleep but not for more than an hour and cries as soon as he goes back in his cot. I'm going to layer him in blankets tonight as he seems to sleep better in his buggy with cosy toes so perhaps he needs to feel warmer and more snuggled? Am over it. I'm a grumpy mummy today :-(

fraktious · 20/10/2011 17:24

On the milk/solids front I always counted the milk used to make baby rice or porridge in the milk allowance for the day. Not that we've ever had baby rice here but I will count the milk which goes into porridge, which reminds me I must buy some cows milk!

So sorry you had to go through that stressfizz but glad everything's okay now. M is obsessed with our phones but that clip is just tooooo funny.

star yay for better nights! We seem to have settled down a bit here as well, although still not self-settling in any kind of reliable fashion. He's done it about twice.

buck well done for continuing as long as you have! I'm finding it harder and harder to pump and keep up with M's needs. Now he's dropped, pretty much, the 10pm feed I feel I should pump then but it's such a bloody faff.

kitty M likes a heavy (weight, rather than thick) cover, so maybe the cosytoes in the buggy has some kind of reassuring pressure?

caramello we still have small feeds too, and more frequent than recommended but if it keeps it down then so much the better.

Jo :( hope C feels better soon.

kittycatcat · 20/10/2011 18:06

Just seen a 'toy ploy' in prima. Google laugh and learn case from fisher price. It's a child friendly I phone case ;-)

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 20/10/2011 18:58

this Kitty?

JoEW · 20/10/2011 19:47

That's too cool. Though it won't work. They KNOW when you want them to eat something and when you don't. As soon as the iphone is covered in Fisher Price protection it will cease to be interesting. Pesky babies.

So, my lovely paediatrician is fine with Conor having one good meal a day. I told him what the HV had said and he just rolled his eyes. He's even taken C off the folic acid and iron supplements. He said that at other meal times I can offer food and if C refuses I just put a little puree gloop on a finger and gently put it on his lips so he can have a little taste. Also (one for caramel, Cycle, Frak, Daisy) he said that when having a cuddle to stroke C from his ear to the edge of his mouth. Apparently it's very soothing for babies who have had reflux. I'll give it a go...

Kitty, yay for rolling and teeth. Not so much for lack of sleep. Your pics on FB are lovely, you don't look like a grumpy mummy! I can't get C to self settle either. He falls asleep in my arms and I put him down. Not sure how I got to that, as he used to self settle about half the time. I keep trying to be tough but then I find I need him to nap, as we are going out, or he's not well etc. Rod. Back.

C is a snot monster tonight - I am in for a long one, I think. He's stuffed full of cottage pie, banana, milk and Calpol and has already woken up once since I put him down. And DH is out with 'the boys'. God help me.

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 20/10/2011 20:10

That iPhone holder is hilarious, and genius!

The reason behind the wakings and the God awful night at the beginning of the week was explained with the arrival of two bottom teeth. The poor bugger also now has a cold. Ds2 also has a cold so it is fun fun fun in our house at the moment Hmm

I loved the video Fizz, your accent is lovely Smile

kittycatcat · 20/10/2011 22:09

That's it fizz and ha, you are right Jo, and thanks Jo, I hope your night is ok.

iltmi I feel your pain.

GlaikitFizzogOnaNeepyLantern · 20/10/2011 22:15

ILTMIMI thanks Blush i really hate to hear my own voice, infact if I hear an Aberdonian accent ont he TV my teeth itch!!

DairyBeetle · 20/10/2011 22:16

Is it wrong that I want an iPhone just so that I can get the childproof iPhone holder?! Grin

Fizz I love the video of B (though it did look like your DH was going to have some trouble untangling himself from the playmat!).

I'm sending fortifying thoughts to all those that need them! We're suffering through the end of last weeks cold (now with added cough, poor S sounds like he's swallowed a rattle Sad) coupled with cutting of first tooth (at long bloody last) and reverse cycling because S still isn't taking more than 30ml during the day when I'm at work. I need matchsticks just to get my eyes open, never mind keeping them open! Oh and just to add to it all DH now has a cold aka ManFlu...

TFI Friday tomorrow!

kittycatcat · 21/10/2011 04:55

So s slept from 9.15-1.10 but has woken hourly since then Angry

BuckminsterFullerene · 21/10/2011 05:51

Oh no Kitty, that's tough.

I just want to say thankyou to Star for mentioning the not sleeping on their front till 6 months. I read that as ok on front after 6 months, figured since F will be 7 months next week and we're desperate for some sleep, I'd try putting him down on his front.

That was at 8pm.

I've just woken up, checked I can hear him breathing on the monitor, and realised I've just slept for 6 hours in a row! Wow! I hope it's not just a one-off.

Cyclebump · 21/10/2011 06:01

Morning kitty, we too have had a rubbish night. 7-11 11-1 then various waking son the sofa on me until 5.30am when he decided he was up for the day. Eugh.

fraktious · 21/10/2011 06:03

Oh kitty Sad

Do you have any idea what could be causing the wakings? What's his daytime routine like? Have you noticed any change in patterns? Is the waking random or does he have a wet/dirty nappy or seem in pain?

OP posts:
fraktious · 21/10/2011 06:05

buck DS has front slept for 2 weeks, he sleeps better (refluxy babies do) and we have an Angelcare do I'm less stressed about it IYSWIM. Yay for sleep!
