Hello. Think i was first to deliver off the September EDD thread so waving to see if anyone else out there yet to join me :)
Had my 2nd DD on 26aug by C-sec. We now home but struggling with BF and baby lost 10% body weight in 3days. Started to top up with formula in syringe to try give cracked. Bleeding nipples a rest, but milk is starting to drip out now leaking everywhere! Hoping for a better night tonight after 3nights of hourly feeds and snatching 2-3hrs of sleep.
Anyone else struggling too?

Tho it was a looong time ago & i didnt drive @ the time, wen i had cs i was also told not 2 drive 4 6weeks. minky perhaps u should check that with ur mw or hv?
sebs i was born with a clicky hip & never needed any treatment so hopefuly ur lo wont either :-) iv never heard of it happening on any1 other than myself, so was weird 2 read thatt!

Our lo threw up his 1st sick yesterday! Our 1st projectile vomited everywhere constantly, our 2nd threw up a lot & so we've fone well going 3weeks 3 days without any here :-)

Fil goes home 2day, my godmother & her dh coming fri 4 the weekend, only they wont b staying with us.
Then its time 2 get back 2 normal & in2 routines :-)

sebs71 · 05/10/2011 08:09

Jimmi - Both me and my DP were also born with clicky hips so poor LO had a high chance of getting them. We both had to have double nappies and my cousin who also had them needed a frame for her first 18 months. Paeditrician who checked her before we were discharged thought it wasn't too bad though, hopefully today's appointment will confirm that. I've still got one dodgy hip!!

It's nice to have people helping but it's lovely to get your home back and start to work out your own routines... So enjoy next week Jimmi!!

Not the best night, LO took a lot of cuddles to settle after feeds so didn't sleep too much. All par for the course :)

jimmijam · 05/10/2011 08:51

Thanku sebs am really looking 4ward 2 seeing godmother but also 2 getting the house back :-)

Sorry 2 hear u still have trouble with ur hip :-(

We used 2 live in the midlands & dd + ds1 were baptised @ same church as i was. We now live in somerset, dont know that many ppl round here & mil cant travel here (age), stuck 4 where 2 have this lo's baptism- b nice 4 him 2 have it in same place as rest of us, but b easier 4 us 2 have it here, also would b nice 2 have mil there. Then 2 choose godparents, so hard!....

feralgirl · 05/10/2011 10:01

Mink, thanks for the advice re ranitidine; I made the dr give me baby gaviscon for DS but it was such a hassle getting it down him that we gave up and just dealt with the puke instead. DD was massively sick all over my bed twice last night and she and I just don't own enough clothes to keep up with it! She's gaining weight so I'm not worried that it's something more sinister but it is a massive PITA.

Totally agree re babies bringing previously unforeseen family probs to the surface. My gran makes really infuriating comments about the way we and my parents look after DS and having kids really showed up the cracks in mine and DH's relationship too.

DD has just been sick down my cleavage so I'm going to go and do my first wardrobe change of the day Sad

sebs71 · 05/10/2011 14:47

Hips ok!! The consultant was about 5 minutes, checked her hips and said all ok... as simple as that. Feet ok too (they are turned in but that's just coz of how she was in the womb and will naturally start to straighten apparently). So, that's all good.

Soooooo tired now... kids are off school today due to Teacher's Strikes, but at friends at the moment, but they'll be home soon... then it's teas etc... can barely keep eyes open...

Feral - sorry to hear about DD's being sick... it's so horrible to see... but glad she's not seeming to bothered by it and is putting on weight...

Jimmi - good luck with choosing Godparents!!!

ssmile · 05/10/2011 19:56

Glad all ok with hips sebs that must be a relief, hope u get some sleep.

Sebs -good news about the clucky hip and I also want to say I think you must be a saint for coping with mil at ex house - must have been difficult. Feral - keep asking the gp to try different options - really stressful when you have a sickie lo. On the driving post csection - you don't have to wait six weeks. You have to be able to perform an emergency stop in a car. I had a discussion with gp and explained that I could stamp my feet hard and bend over and touch my toes very easily. The gp then said that she was happy for me to drive but that it was down Tony insirance company to decide. I called my insurance company and they said that if the gp is happy that's fine and they made a note on the system on my file. The reason people think it has to be six weeks is that this is when you usually see your gp for your six week post natal check and so that's when the doc says you are okay to drive. Having had 3 sections I knew that I could drive sooner all being well. It's great to be independent again I must say and today I went shopping for jeans. Woohoo ! Still swollen on my scar area so bought size 14 skinny jeans but i was able to get into thesize 12 - just not as comfy. Hope to be back in my size 10s within 2 months if I can as I have no clothes to wear at the moment !

sebs71 · 05/10/2011 20:44

Thanks all.
Ssmile - feel your dilemma. What did you decide? Hope you manage to get a good two hour plus stretch of sleep at the start. Hourly feeds sound exhausting. My LO seems to going for hour long feeds at the moment and every two hours or so. Feel like all I do is feed!!!
Minky - very impressed with your jeans buying... And jealous! Still got a highish bump so not daring to buy anything yet. But looking forward to buying something without a stretchy bit in the waistline!! Didn't find mat clothes very appealing.
Will second ssmile and send sleep fairies to all including to your little ones!!

ssmile · 05/10/2011 20:56

I dozed but she woke at 8.30m :) but just fed a whole 10mins which gd for her! I'm lucky the feds may be freq but they are short usually 5-6mins! I was worried she wasn't gettingenough but her steady weigh gain on 75th line proves otherwise but it does take 20mibs of upright cuddle before I put her down. Resendin sleep fairies ....

I also saw GP post sec at 3.5wks and spoke with ins company gd to drive but word warning I have driven but only school run & 10min to shop, each time I've re bleed from inside so have still limited my driving. Strange as 40min brisk walk with buggy no bleeds. But I think its also the lifting buggy in &out and carseat in/out that tum found too hard.

Sebs glad the hips thing is ok :)

We've been and registered Edith's birth, took the bus with her in the sling, the bus home (bearing in mind we live in Birmingham) didn't turn up after half an hour so we went and had a 3 course meal out, fed her in the restaurant and then came home. Been a nice family afternoon.

Bought some infacol to use now and also some gripe water for after she's a month. Used the infacol earlier and she burped straight away but she also puked twice since having it so I'm not sure if that's coincidence or not. We'll see, she did puke up earlier today as well so it may be she's having a pukey day.

ssmile · 06/10/2011 00:25

Alas the hourly feeds continue gosh I hope this is just the 6wk spurt my poor boobs are the size of watermelon and feel vengorged. Going to be long night I fear.

Glad u had gday out 100yrs and Lo enjoyed her bus ride.

:( Ssmile hope the night isn't too bad :(

sebs71 · 06/10/2011 04:08

Yes hope the night going ok ssmile. Hourly feeds during the night mot good.

100years your day out sounded lovely and well done to Edith - all nice and official now!

Think Alys has dropped off again so will attempt to put her on the basket for the third time!!

ssmile · 06/10/2011 10:03

Night wasnt good babe fed hourly for 5-10mins until 4am then finally slept 2hrs, was vtiring night. I really hoping this is the 6wk growth spurt and she not just using boob as pacifier to get back to sleep. Then had crap time at school drop off, no teacher or asst, DD1 sobbing in one arm and then babe crying in other arm. Bell went so had to leave tired sobbing daughter with sub teacher who she doesn't know poor mite felt so sorry for her :(. Now cooking dinner for tonight so can just heat up, as promised go see friend with new baby too and really gonna need at nap again after lunch before collecting DD from school.

Hope you had better nights x

sebs71 · 06/10/2011 11:05

Oooh, Ssmile, that's not good :( Hope you have a nice time at your friend's then, and manage to get a few naps in today (I've still not managed napping in the day).

Didn't have the best night either. She did sleep for about 2 1/2 hours at the start of the night, but then after the feed around 2.30 / 3.00, she took ages to settle (see message above). She did go down at 4am, but then woke again about 45 minutes later, and then decided to keep waking lots after that, so only managed little dozes.

So feeling zombieish again today, but have a friend coming for lunch, an d looking forward to that. She's had 3 of her own, and is currently PG with her fourth, so I'm going to be asking her tonnes!!!

Sounds like the September Bus is getting ready to depart! How exciting!!!

100years · 06/10/2011 12:21

Sounds like we've all had a 'tough' night. We went off as usual at 11:30 then woke at half 2 for a feed and it was 2 hrs later when she went down again. Not crying just wide awake. Then woke an hour later for a feed. Thankfully it was a short feed and then another 2 hrs sleep but she's been quite awake and needing attention this morning. Think the infacol is tying to force all the wind out and she's suffering a little bit with it. She's napping in her bouncy chair thing now so I'm leaving her there a bit while she's dozing. Won't be log before she's awake again.

Conkertree · 06/10/2011 13:28

Just popping on to get this thread back on my 'i'm on' list so I can find it easilly.

Getting very little time to come on mn. Fergus likes to be held. A lot. Which is lovely, but means I'm not getting a lot else done. Ds1 is also playing up a bit, and having nightmares and wetting the bed which he hasnt ever done since he was potty trained, so taking a bit of time too. Ds2 is taking it all in his stride which is great.

Hope you are all enjoying your little ones though, and I will try to catch up a bit.

hazelnutlatte · 06/10/2011 13:41

Hi everyone, thanks for the advice about not worrying about cuddling her to sleep, have tried to relax a bit about it all and not panic that I am setting up bad habits for life! Will start to think about getting her into a routine once she is 6 weeks old I think.
It looks like lots of you have sicky babies too - amazing how common projectile vomiting seems to be! Its horrible in the middle of the night when she has happily taken a feed, been burped, seems settled, has fallen asleep, so I put her in the moses basket and 30 seconds later she vomits a huge amount all over the place! Or worse, she vomits all over the bed sheets whilst I am trying to burp her. She is also really unsettled in the evenings, lots of crying and she just seems really uncomfortable. Am taking her to the GP today, if its reflux hopefully he will prescribe something to help.
After all that moaning though - last night she was an angel! She was very grumpy until about 11.30, fell asleep on me, then I put her in the moses basket and she slept until 3.30! Unfortunatley I didn't get too much sleep as I kept worrying about her as she normally only sleeps for 1 - 1.5 hrs at a time. Hopefully this is a sign of things to come!
Could someone explain about clicky hips? dd has an ultrasound booked for November to check for this, as the doctor who examined her in hospital thought there could be a problem.

feralgirl · 06/10/2011 14:55

Conker, that's difficult. DD spends most of the day attached to me but I bung her in a sling or type one-handed! My DS has also gone a bit haywire since DD arrived and we've had to put him back in nappies.

We had a fidgety night here as well; DD refused to settle anywhere except curled into me in my bed which meant that I woke up with very stiff shoulders this morning! She slept fine (woke once at 3.30 for a quick feed) but just insisted on being cuddled all night (I don't mind really Smile)

Got DD weighed this morning; she is now a whopping 10lb 1oz and has put on nearly 1lb in a week and a half so I decided that I couldn't be bothered to go to the dr about the puking. HV said to just sit her upright after a feed and to avoid medication as she is piling on the weight, despite the vomiting. She also pointed out that it's probably less sick than we think it is, even if it seems incredibly dramatic when it's coming out of her like a fountain!

Hazel, clicky hips are when their hips dislocate. Babies inherit it from their parents I think and it's not that uncommon (my cousin had it). It's more common in girls too (dunno why) and breech or big babies. Drs use a splint or cast to correct it which is generally very successful but looks quite dramatic. DS had his checked at hospital when he was weeny, they just wiggled him about a bit but he was fine.

Conkertree · 06/10/2011 15:17

Yup feralgirl - the didymos is getting well used but still never seems to be time for lots of things.

Would help if the weather was a bit nicer so I could get some clothes dried. Ds1 peed in our bed last night, ds3 puked, and there was some milk leakage so not a pleasant smelling sheet this morning but has poured for most of the day.

Seems like most people are lacking in sleep, but I guess thats expected in the first few weeks (at least). We've ended up starting ds3 in his nature nest but co-sleeping for the rest of the night once he wakes at 1 or 2. Co-slept with ds2 while he was feeding a lot at night (really till he could roll well so could roll out of bed easily) and he is a great sleeper.

sebs71 · 06/10/2011 15:18

Feral - well done on LO's weight gain! Getting mine weighed tomorrow, and really hope she's put more weight on. She hasn't got back to birth weight yet, and she'll be 3 weeks tomorrow. But she lost 10% initially, so had a lot to put back on. HV didn't seem too bothered when she was weighed on Monday though.

Conker - as Feral suggested, I'm thinking of getting one of those slings to carry LO around indoors. We've got an outdoor one - but it's a bit bulky to wear indoors and a bit weighty, so just want a simple one, that'll leave both arms free to do stuff!

Hazel - just to add re the clicky hips thing... Feral is right. In the early 70s, lots were diagnosed with Clicky Hips and had to wear two nappies or if more serious a frame, to push the hips back together again. However, when I saw the Consultant yesterday, he suggested that there were far too many diagnosed with it. He sort of dismissed me when I said both me and DP had it as babies (we were both double nappy babies) ... even though my left hip still dislocates occasionally. Although the Paeditrician heard "clicks" on the paed. check on my LO before she was discharged from hospital, the Consultant just dismissed it and said LO was fine. As my DP said, perhaps they should train the Paeditricians better to diagnose them, and then we wouldn't all have to go back for scans or check ups... so hopefully your LO will be ok too.

100years - your LO sounds just like mine... I've started on the Infacol too, seems to bring up a couple of small burps, but nothing big yet. But the possetting seems to be slightly less now!

ssmile · 06/10/2011 20:08

Feeling optomistic for better night as Lo has fed better this arvo. I read interesting article on net WWW.lowmilksupply.com/oversupply.shtml about having too much milk which read exactly as problems I've been having last couple of days. I've followed their suggestion and fed of same boobi for 2/3feeds in 2hr period and babe fed better, longer, more contented and boobs feel better. Fingers Xed for tonight, cant be as bad as last night.

Just had ago at DH. He promised to be home by 6.45pm latest so I could read DD story&cuddles with out babe, instead he stopped to buy beer on way home &got held up comes in half hr late, and i had dealt with bathing both, screaming babe needing feed, DD1 wanting just me &her story time. I got all behind in our little routine of me having shower and making packed lunches for tom so I can go straight to bed at 8pm as flipping knackered at moment. I'm not asking a lot of him at mo but that half hr is most stressful for me getting everyone else settled with min fuss grrrrrrr he normally very gd so can't moan too much.

Hoping sleep fairies work better tonight :)

OP posts:
100years · 07/10/2011 03:25

Ooh yes 3:20 a great time for LO to be practicing her happy noises. Wide awake, quite happy just not going back to sleep. I might leave the infacol for daytime and evening use only, as this happened last night too. Normally she feeds and goes off again.

ssmile · 07/10/2011 04:07

Ive had few nights when magic mummy milk didn't maker her go to sleep after, think it just all part of bodyclock adjustment. Tonight has been SO much better than last 3n so fingers Xed it was the 6wk growth spurt causing my feeding problems but its been really cold tonight. Had to put Lo in 2layers, 1tog sleeping bag and tucked in her wiggling feet with blanket, still her little hands really cold. I have got some 2.5tog sleep bags might have to get them out if temp keeps dropping brrr winter around the corner. Sitting up in bed&doing nappy change was also bit chilly for me tonight :)
Hope Edith settles soon 100yrs
