Maccers twas suggested by the BF clinic midwives I went to see yesterday up at the hossie. It does help a bit but looks ridiculous.

I am not enjoying this motherhood lark at all and rather wish I had never emarked upon it. Can I please give the baby back to the hospital? I have been feeding him non-stop since 8am and my tits hurt. Also he's shat on two sets of bedding. He is now screaming. I am trying not to hate him and failing somewhat.

AlpinePony · 06/09/2011 15:19

owl Can someone take over for an hour whilst you go out for a coffee? The baybee will not die during that hour but it might stop you going a little bit mad.

booty in the early days when I seemed to be unable to leave the sofa due to continuous feeding the lovely Janit told me it was ok to put baby in pram and leg it out of the door, and that said baby would probably fall asleep.

She was right. I waited for the small one to come off a boob and would then get babe in pram and leg it out the door. Baby would fall asleep by the end of the street and my boobs would get some rest.

Even better, get someone else to take baybee out as Alps wisely suggests. The first weeks are sometimes not much fun, but it does get better. I promise.

Cosmosis · 06/09/2011 15:51

In what way do they hurt owls? Are your nips misshapen when you finish a feed? Please to explain further so that we can get to the bottom of it, you shouldn?t be sore and don?t want to get to the stage of bleedy nips or anything like that.

Definitely agree to the walk thing, also do you have a wrap type sling, absolute life saver in the early days.

Lighttaperstandback · 06/09/2011 16:38

Ooh! Moo is having her scan? That came around quick.

Sorry for hurty nips Owls (and hello, btw!) Mine were sore for a vey long time (not helped by 3 months of feeding a baby with tongue tie). It did get easier though and 4 weeks after stopping, they are feeling pretty much normal again, so the pain will end one day. Would deffo second Cosmo's recommendation of a sling, and to get yerself oot the door. although maybe not right now. Grin And what on earth is this tubegrip thing? Sounds kinky.

The pressure on kids these days to get grades seems to have gone out of this world. I am an oxford educated (ex) lawyer (and yep, hated it with a vengance), and I got lots of Bs, Cs, and an E for my O'levels GCSEs. It's just lining up kids to feel like they've failed. Thought getting rid of common entrance was supposed to have stopped that happening eh?

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 17:03

booty sorry to hear you are having a rough time. I know exactly how you feel, the first 4 weeks were not good for us either (mind you, i don't think anyone has a breeze) If you have time do explain how it hurts as cossie and others might be able to help. On the other hand its still not 100% comfortable here at 15 weeks, and it doesn't matter whether I relatch or not, its just the way it is. It's nowhere near as bad as at first tho. I hope that doesnt put you off, defo a good idea to check for tongue tie if you havent already. Please get someone to take the baby off you so you can have a break if you can. I know it feels like you are being bad for doing it but it is allowed, you know? also try sticking a finger in his mouth instead of feeding. He might be using you as a dummy and this way you can give your nips a rest for a bit.

medee sorry to hear things are not conclusive and the steroids haven't been a success but its great news about EAs development being on target and the rolling. I hope this drug does the trick but if not it sounds like there are lots of different options to explore.

Good luck at the scan moo

We went swimming last week and Sprout loved it (I think, well she didnt cry) The others (two of my NCT group) laughed because she nearly fell asleep, she has a bit of a rep for always sleeping. But the PITA is that you can only really stay in for 15 minutes. This one was freebie but I'd really like to go with TB however it's going to cost nearly a tenner for us to take her to the public pool for quarter of an hour I'm not sure we can justify it. I am on the waiting list for swimming sessions with the childrens centre but probably wont get it til January and don't want to not take her between now and then :S It seems a bit of a paradox that the council are constantly going on about healthy living and exercise yet put the cost of swimming up by 25% this year.

Lighttaperstandback · 06/09/2011 17:31

Rocket is the reason you can only stay 15 mins because of the sleeping or because Sprout gets cold? If the latter, you can get little baby wetsuit thingies made of neoprene that will help - we got one off ebay for a tenner, and they meant we could keep Squib in the water for at least half an hour. At least then you'll get a bit more swim time foryour money. A tenner is pricey - that's almost what we used to pay for proper swim classes. Either way, as Sprout gets older, even by just a few weeks, she'll last longer in the pool. Squib will now stay in for up to an hour quite happily.

Forgot to say Medee - at least the fact that EA is up to speed developmentally is good? I know how frustrating it is to be waiting for a proper diagnosis yet though...fingers crossed that the new drugs work.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 17:59

Off to look at Cas' AIBU thread. I am fick and everything, AND I was born in the summer, AND I went to a comprehensive school in a town known for being at the bottom of the pile for everything, including schools. Obviously it hampered my chances, and my provincial state education is the only thing that has stood between me and world domination. Hmm But apart from that I am fairly happy with where it has got me.

Rocket am confuddled by the cost of your swimming and only being able to go for 15 minutes. We go to a session at a local council pool called Jelly Babies which is just floats and toys in the pool (which has a fab raisable floor and they raise it so the shallow end is just inches deep.) The pool is warm and clean, and we are in for ages, and it only costs £6 for the 4 of us. We only did the swimming lessons with TT for a couple of weeks. OH couldn't face singing the awful songs any more.

Other people have given Booty all the advice I could give, so I will offer a comforting slap round the face with a wet kipper and hope you are feeling better about it all soon.

BTW LG is one tomorrow! Shock

AlpinePony · 06/09/2011 18:04

curly wrt that thread, if it was xenia who pissed you off, don't write her off. She actually has a fantastic attitude and work ethic, when she got divorced she continued to be (and always was) sole provider. She would get up at dawn to write papers and books to sell before the children woke up. She does have a lot of money, but I wouldn't hold that against her as she's a real grafter. You could take it all from her and she'd dust herself off again. Worse I personally think on mn are the scores who whine about their superior education but do nothing with their lives and have no get up and go. B's in 1990 certainly didn't hold anyone back. Don't even get me started on tutoring for the 11+! ;)

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 19:57

box and tapers yes, its due to her getting cold, I was told she shouldnt stay in for longer the 15 mins at this age. Our local pool is £4.30 each so if we both want to go then that's quite expensive. This would be just if we took her to public swim. I think there are baby swim sessions which are cheaper as you buy a course of 10 or whatever but pretty sure this is just one parent and they are during the day so rules TB out. I don't think they do anything like that jelly babies box I am jealous of your fab pool with the raising floor. I probably will get involved with one of the paying courses while waiting to get on the CC one so that she stays used to the water. Good idea re: the wet suit. She has a little sun suit thing which helps, the last pool we went to (david lloyd) was very warm (both water and air) and I think we probably could have got away with staying in longer but a wet suit would be better.

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 20:04

lights just wondering was it one of the body velcro wrap things or a full zippered suit like a mini adults one?

CluckyKate · 06/09/2011 20:22

This would do the trick Rocket

rollerbaby · 06/09/2011 20:44

Booty sorry to hear you are having a bit of a mare. Week 4 wasn't great here either. I think it is all still such a shock and the relentlessness of it just gets to you at times. Plus feeding is still hard. I had squashed nipples for the whole of breastfeeding - but the pain DID ease off after a few weeks, so persevere but get help at a local BF centre if you can get out there. babymoo had mild tongue tie but consultant wouldn't operate unless it was much more severe, so no idea if this resulted in the compression but to be honest it was fine after the first month or so and we just found our own way as you will. Don't wrory if you think you are doing it wrong - you probably aren't, it is just hard to start with.

Scan all done thank god. We don't get the final combined results for another week or so, but the measurements were normal and we've decided on balance to tell people. They think it's another boy!!!! I knew it!!!! He wasn't prepared to bet his life as they can obviously be wrong, but I am not in the least bit surprised. Barbies are not going to be a part of my life!!!!!

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 20:45

Cas I has backed you up. Will dive back later.

CurlyCasper · 06/09/2011 20:56

rocket, I have a 0-6 month JoJoMaman Bebe Warm in the Water suit I am happy to lend. It 's legless and sleeveless, but really did the trick.

box Cheers - although having hidden I haven't seen!

CurlyCasper · 06/09/2011 20:57

oh, and wooooohoooooooooooooooooooo honey!

Hugs to booty. It will get better, we can all promise that.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 21:19

Rocket ooh yes, you need a neoprene suit. TT and LG both had them till about 9 months, and they could keep warm for about half an hour even when tiny.

Moo yay for good scan! You are not missing too much with the dolly stuff.

SilverSky · 06/09/2011 21:20

meddle I echo what the others say and am focussing on the two extreme positives and hope that in itself sorts out the third bit.

boot I has closer sling I can lend. Pls to fb me.

moo huzzah for moo2!!!

Well first day back has been bleeding hell. Computer system on my pooter not working, I can't remember owt, I collect MB and nursery tell me his eczema is blistering and they had to change his entire outfit incl vest cos of the dribble. TBH they must have left the same bib on for ages. His vest was dripping wet?Hmm His bits are red raw. I've never seen it so bad. His key worker is clearly struggling to stop him scratching and failing. I struggle but Crikey it's horrific. He cried when he saw me, panicked and screamed when I put him down to put his jacket on as he thought I was leaving him again. Completely unsettled once home. Screaming and crying. Went out like a light. Oh and I'm hoping hoss has not done serious damage to one of its legs. Having to deal with this little emergency by phone was delightful. HI all upset about it too. So all in all fecking shit day and I'm hoping the medical verdict tomorrow concerning the hoss is a good one as I don't think I can handle it being serious.

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 21:43

silvs that sounds hellishly traumatic!! There's only one thing for it, a VERY large gin. Fingers crossed tomorrow is a better day for MB, poor little lamb! and you get good news about the hoss. :(

Thanks very much curly the loan would be aces! I don't really want to buy something 0-6 if I am only going to take her once or twice as she will likely have outgrown it by the time I get on the CC course. I will most definitely be buying you lunch at the next meet (which I meant to do last time and forgot Blush) I am going to ring the two nearest pools and see if they do other sessions, I love swimming and I really want Sprout to enjoy it too, TB doesn't really (sinks like a stone) and I want to make sure she has no fear of the water. My ulterior motive for us both taking her was that TB could get her out and dress her (always the fun bit) and I could actually do some lengths. But never mind.

Fabulous scan news moo I didn't think they could tell this early? you might still get a pink flavour.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 21:55

Rocket we had a private scan at 12 weeks and the scanner told us she was 75% sure LG was a boy then.

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 22:06

That must have been cool box I didn't know what was possible or maybe NHS scanners are not as good? I know the scan I got for my galstones when we had a sneaky peek was much MUCH clearer than at my 20 week one 10 days later so there are different levels in the equipment.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 22:34

It was very cool. Sadly the NHS 20 week scan was done by a hard hearted harridan who didn't think the parents of the blob she was measuring might be interested in it, and wouldn't switch her machine back on the give her verdict on the sex. So we spent from weeks 12 to 21 very sure we were having a boy, then from weeks 21 to 40 saying 'weeeeell, it's a 75% chance it's a boy!' I called TT 'her' from 20 weeks. But poor LG was always an 'it.' He's still a bit of an 'it' now - he's a hilarious little monster atm.

Backinthebox · 06/09/2011 22:36

BTW TT's 20 week NHS scan was done at a different hospital, and the scan-lady was fab. It's one of the things I despair of with the NHS - you can get the same treatment less than 15 miles apart and come away with wildly different experiences. Why?

rocketleaf · 06/09/2011 23:08

IRDK They seem to have made an artform of inconsistency. I have to say all the sonographers we saw with Sprout were very lovely. With the gallstones one they were dying for a look - it must be a bonus to see a baby when you spend all day looking for diseased organs.

I posted this on FB but at the risk of repeating myself the HV who weighed Sprout yesterday insisted that she was 14+5 because "there are sometimes 5 weeks in a month" Hmm Despite me telling her she was born on a Monday so therefore must be 15 weeks exactly as there are always 7 days in a week. She would not have it and kept referring me to this little date dial thingy. I had to bite my tongue and leave. (without saying "how about you use your brain and the gregorian calendar instead of some piece of shit doohicky you've been issued so you don't actually have to think?")

AlpinePony · 07/09/2011 03:41

rocket I read that date thing and it just made me weep. :( Like the whole "I've been pregnant for 10 months" thing - er no, your last period was in October and you gave birth in July. Which calendar are you looking at? Did you get a bonus page with your French rugby team calendar? Also another fan of the neoprane wetsuit thing. I got one from ebay for 2.50 brand new iirc, aged 6-12 months. As it's adjustable over the shoulders, under the bits and around the tum it still fits him fine, mind you, he's not the biggest baybee in the world. Totally agree about quality of equipment differing all over. Our 20 + 30 week scan woman had better equipment than the private vanity scans we had. The photo we have at 30 weeks looks like Bear taken in sepia - it's quite extraordinary.

silv You poor thing, that sounds utterly shit. :( I hope the gin led to another gin which in turn led to hanky panky which in turn will lead to another baybee! Poor hoss. :(

honey That is amazing news! I am so happy for you! I didn't think to ask at my 12 + 13 week scans tbh - what a wally! I was looking at all the girls toys yesterday actually and voicing the fact that I'd be able to live through her and buy her all the stuff which i) wasn't available in the 70's or ii) we couldn't afford. But what if it's a boy? Shock Who will buy me a furry pony pencil-case?
