OK this is it I have started the thread in the vain hope that someone on the December antenatal thread will pop and come and join me, I have been waiting for over 3 weeks now and to be honest with you I think your all being a little selfish making me wait around on my own .

Can't believe I am the one starting this thread I'm not due till 18/12/05 yet by then George will be nearly 6 weeks old, I tell you what though I feel really really sorry for the last person to give birth from December as they will be dying to get onto this thread by then.

As sad as this may seem over the next few days (or weeks if you lot don't get popping) I'm going to post on this thread little messages so that when people start crossing over they have something to read, well that is what I intend to do anyway but whether George lets me do that is a totally different thing.
I shall deffo post my birth story on here I have waited so long to do it so expect that to appear in the next day or so.

So come on over ladies the grass really is greener on the other side.

HERES WISHING YOU MANY HAPPY NAPPIES [GRIN] [GRIN] [GRIN]

OK so now that people are begining to pop I though I had better post my birth story (better late than never)

All day Wednesday 9th and Thursday 10th November I had horrible back ache I couldn't get comfortable at all but thought nothing of it. Went to bed on the Thursday night at 9pm DH came with me coz he was exhausted too. Woke up at 1am with really bad pains in my lower tummy went to the toilet and went back to sleep, woke up almost exactly an hour later with horrible pains again wasn't sure if these where contractions but knew they were damn painfull decided to try and get back to sleep as it had been an hour between the 2. 15 mins later I had another one and then 10 mins later another. Rang hospital they said it was probably nothing but to come in anyway as my waters had gone a week and a half ago. Kept getting regular contractions on route to hospital and security guard at the hospital had to practically carry me to the delivery suite
Got in got strapped up to that machine and then was left, we waited and waited and waited, finally mw came back and said nothing was showing up but the Dr would check me anyway, internal was done and I was told that I was deffo not in labour and was just having pg niggles . I remember saying to DH that if these were just niggles then I was never gonna cope with labour. Dr said they would keep me in for a few hours as my waters had gone just to check on me and see if the pains went away. It was now 8 ( yes we had been sat waiting to be seen for nearly 4 hours) in the morning and DH went off to work and I was transferred to the ward. At 10am I was in so much pain a mw came to see me and decided like any sensuble mw not to rely on technology but actually put her hand on my tummy and said straight away that was in labour, there was then a mad panic as they didn't think they had room in scbu for baby and they needed to transfer me but couldn't as I was in labour and it was too dangerous. Eventually they decided to risk having space and took me over to delivery (again) DH turned up an hour later and I started on the gas and air, I was then topped up with pethadine and DH said I was singing away to the radio and shouting at him not to answer the phone whenever it rang as I was having a baby (we had phone, telly and radio by the bed). At 4ish I was refused any further pethadine as the birth was iminent and just remember it getting really painful. I felt the urge to push at 6pm and was pushing for just over 2 hours George was born at 8.08pm, I tore slightly but was told it would heal naturally (which it has) George weighed 6lb 4oz, needed no help with his breathing and got a 9 on his apgar score not bad for being 5 and a bit weeks early. As you all know he did go to special care for 1 week for feeding and jaundice but I think tit was a case of better safe than sorry.

Can't believe this was 4 weeks ago today amazing how clearly you remember it.

Lets be having some more of you then.

Oh yeah and during labour I threw up all over DH bright green sick (prob from the pethadine) and he was wearing a white jumper The mw said it was probably down to the amount of pain I was in anyway because of my waters having gone she said it makes it quite a bit more painful.

hey hun,whats ur address flutter?

sweetheart · 10/12/2005 16:44

Afternoon all.

I'm really sorry I haven't had a chance to read and see how everyone is. I'm sending everyone my love and hopefully next week (after the manic visits have calmed down) I will be able to check in with you all.

Have had some trouble with Lucas - the pead at the hospital has told us he is tounge tied and he is having freat trouble feeding which means he is now jaundice and very unhappy. We have had no sleep since he was born and have had to resort to formula today as he cannot suck properly from my breast.

We have to take him to hospital on Monday and get him referred to a specalist in So,ton who will snip his tounge so he can feed properly. In the meantime I am trying to express so he can have my milk from a bottle.

Also not had 1 spare min as we've been swamped with visitors and phone calls. I'll be glad when it calms down next week.

Anyway, love to you all - I'm going to get 5 mins shut eye whilst SIL has dd for us.

Promise to catch up properly next week

flutterbeedreaminofawhitexmas · 11/12/2005 13:41

Really good to hear from you sh, don't worry about Lucas they will have him sorted out in no time and I bet he latches straight back on to the breast once hes OK even if he doesn't at least you have been able to express some milk for him (I had to switch to formula due to feeding problems) George also had jaundice and needed light therapy whilst in scbu but it soon passes and they told me that a lot of babies get it now even when they are perfectly healthy.

Make sure you grab as much rest time as you can, the first week with visitors was a nightmare for me too so I really feel for you.

(((((((((((((((HUGS)))))))))))))))))))

Flutter - we are hoping that Lucas will be able to get his tounge cut (ouch) this week. We are off to the hospital tomorrow to try and get appt.

His jaundice is better today after a day of pigging himself on all I can express and formular. The mw said we are lucky we caught it just in time otherwise he would be starving and we'd be back in hospital by now.

He has been more awake today - probably down to having more energy.

I'll be glad when xmas is over really - I feel like I'm running out of time to do things - although dh goes back to work after xmas so I'll have to organise myself

Happy 1 month b'day to your little one btw. Have you seen Expat will soon be joining us. These Dec babies really seem in a hurry to enter the world with all these speedy deliveries

flutterbeedreaminofawhitexmas · 12/12/2005 19:50

Hi sh good to hear from you again, I'm glad you got your appointment so quickly for "the snip" (ouch from me too). It is really really good news that you spotted the feeding thing as you would have had to go into scbu I expect and no matter how lovely the nurses are there I ended up feeling like George wasn't mine and that I was being watched all the time iyswim

I feel really lucky because George seems to have come just at the right time for me to be settled into parenthood and able to cope with Xmas, I know for a fact that I would be dreading it had he been born any later but it's only one day just keep saying that. [glad]

Hi December ladies. I've just popped in from the Nov ladies with a little message for sweetheart. When Lucas has his tongue snipped, I want to reassure you that it really is a tiny procedure & he'll be able to feed very soon after. I work as an anaesthetic nurse & have seen many of these ops. It literally takes 30 secs once your LO is alseep. He'll be awake within 15-20mins & they're usually ravenous! The anaesthetist may give some paracetamol in the form of a suppository whilst he's asleep but generally, they tend to be fairly comfy after this op.

Hope it all goes well.

sweetheart · 13/12/2005 19:49

Oh god - OK I'm probably being totally nieve but I didn't relise he'd have to be put under to have this - didn't relise it was actually an op. I though they just snipped it!

God - now I'm scared!

ohKARMAallyefaithfulMOTHER · 14/12/2005 22:03

Unfortunately, little babies aren't very compliant!! Having said that, baby's aren't given a general anaesthetic unless it's absolutely necessary & since this affects his feeding then it is. Like I said, it is such a short procedure that the anaesthetic is quite brief. Depending on the anaesthetist's preferences they may use gas to get him off to sleep or they may use an injection. Don't worry, Lucas is fortunately young enough to not remember it. I've never seen this done without a general anaesthetic, I'm afraid. It is much kinder done asleep.

Nemoinapeartree · 17/12/2005 17:28

Hello ladies
nice to be on the 'other side'.
So here goes with birth story.
Went in at 7.30am and was checked etc, given first pessarie at 9am. Baby was engaged then but spent whole time popping in and out of engagement. No pains etc until 3pm ish when given second pessary. Regular niggles from \3-10pm. Moved to delivery quite to have waters broken but baby had moved right out of pelvis. Told I might need c section due to this and that she felt a big baby [again], so wouldnt break my waters. Pains got more regular but my cervix went on holiday apparently..lol. Midnight they decided they were going to do a csec so prepped for theatre and taken down [lots of tears as I didnt expect it]. When went to theatre they said if i wanted they could try and break waters first but due to her not being engaged there was a possibility of her cord dropping down first. I was going to be having c sec under general anesthetic anyway so I said to try. At that moment her head engaged for a min so they did it and was all fine. Walked back to delivery room. Contractions coming regularly then at 3am baby unengaged again so prepped for C sec and taken down at which point she engaged again. Back to room again where was told I was only 2cmas dialated so given diamorphine. Carried on in regular 2 mins apart contractions till 6am. Checked again and told still only 2cms and baby unengaged..again prepped for c sec and you guessed it she engaged..at this point I told G we were never having anymore..lol Told she might be too big to come out ...hahaha...so said I would try again. Told I couldnt have more diamorphine as i needed my wits about me. Felt need to push at 7am and told was 8cms but baby still high up. Told not to have gas n air while I pushed baby down. At this point I begged them to take me back for c sec but they refused..pmsl I was not impressed and refused to push but baby had other ideas..lol Started pushing properly at 7.30am and she was born at 8am exactly. Weighed in at 6lb14ozs with dark hair and is doll like compared to Adams 9lb1..lol

sweetheart · 17/12/2005 18:08
