sfxmum · 02/01/2006 16:33

hello all

hope you are all having a nice start to 2006. dd is 7 months today! doesn't time fly!

last day of 05 was quite relaxed, one of my sisters and her family stopped by and we had an early dinner and far too much to drink.

sort of did not make it to midnight, i was tired and dd was finding it hard to settle so i took her to bed with me. dh stayed up watching a video. i got up just before the hr to watch big ben gong the year in - was rewarded with the sight of Andrew Marr wearing a kilt back to bed

oh yes and we were alerted to a leak in our bathroom by our downstairs neighbours - "cant do anything today guv, back tuesday, big job bath out dig at the wall"!!![ oh joy

and i we bought a cube highchair from east coast, hope it works, thanks for suggestions
take care all

teabelly · 02/01/2006 17:03

SFX, my dd's 7 months exactly today too!

JonahB · 02/01/2006 19:11

No, I?m definitely the last one to wish everyone a happy new year. Happy new year everyone!!!!!

I was all ready to have a quiet new year with me and DH, but we ended up with 8 of us (plus a 3 week old baby, more about her later) round at ours, watching Jools Holland and having a lovely night of it. AND I made it to 1am!!!!!! How rock and roll am I still????

SFX, v. of your east coast high chair. They are lovely! Much as I am really v. grateful for being given a M&P one, it would have been lovely to go and buy a trendy wooden one.

Tea/Mrs Wed, best of luck for tomorrow. I?ve got 2 weeks under my belt now, admittedly fairly easy weeks, but working nevertheless. Unfortunately, I?m going to have to start actually working properly from tomorrow. Booo!!!!!

KVG ? poor you, what a nightmare. At least you are ok now??

Can I join in some of your lovely messages. Although I realise I don?t log on nearly as much as I?d like to, this thread has been a total support for me, thank you all. I have had such a fantastic 6 ½ months with the little ?un, I wish all of you an equally fantastic 12 months to come.

I slightly scared myself on new year?s eve, while looking at the 3 week old baby. I actually contemplated doing it all again. Although I?ve always said I wanted another one, up until this point, the idea of pgy/childbirth again made me want to cry. But I looked down at her cute little grumpy face and felt broody. OMG!!! And really, having chatted to you all, I should know better than to contemplate a second . So, now I?m kind of thinking about timelines and when to try again. Maybe the summer? Anyone else thinking about if/when to try for another (I realise there?s a good chance some of you will want to throw something at me for having such suggestions)...

Lua · 02/01/2006 21:05

Hi All-
Yep, tomorrow is a big day in the Lua household too!
While I have started working slowly, it would be full on starting tomorrow. Which means actually having a brain and pumping twice !
DS is on boot camp on the sleep front. I decided I jyst can't do full time meaningful work on after never sleeping more than a full continuous 3 hours. It is a ad time for him poor thing as he just sprouted 5 tooth in the last two weeks, and has one more in his way! I have managed to get him for 3 nights in a row only feeding at 5 Am so now I'm sure he constant waking is not hunger. Hopefully he will realize soon that he is not getting any boob time and will stopwaking up!

Skyler - Gu is a wonderful line of chocolate gooey suffles that you can buy in the supermarket and heat at home. Yummy! Definetely check it out! Unless of course you care for your figure... If you do, Don't try it!!!!
I didn't realize that your move was so soon. Best wishes at managing with the smallest amount of stress possible!
You are relocating to somewhere in the North area aren't you? Let us know when you are all set, the northeners are definetely due another meeting in Leeds soon!

MrsW - So glad hubby made it back home and you have a good time. I'll ignore the fact that you had a better desert than I did...

Jonah - I adore my #2 to bits! So I highly recommend it! In terms of timing, I suspect there is no right or wrong spacing. Go for it when you feel ready! BTW, Anyone knows if Scraggy is already working in the second?!

So I vote for the next thread to be called
"the one where they get everywhere".
Ds is driving me crazy!! He is a perpetual motion machine! He is also finally warming up for food, although he definetely has a sweet tooth! Anyone else having a hard time selling green veggies? Also, for those that havebeen weaning for a while, are you still spacing the introduction of every new food item, or can I relax? I forgot all aout it!

eastyorksmum · 02/01/2006 21:50

Anyway tommoro for the thirs time william is sleeping out thank god, my sister is having him overnite, so we can get some sleep, its only the third time since william has been born, and wow do i need a break.

right love to you all sleep well mums xxxxxxxx

SKYLERtnightholynight · 03/01/2006 07:36

Morning all,
Wow Lua, five teeth in two weeks. I can sympathise with you there as dd seemed to get hers all at once and I am sure this is at the root of our sleeping problems. DH and I moved into the spare room last night as our bed has to be taken apart to be packed but dd still woke every three hours sigh. And dd1 wet the bed poor mite, I think we will put her back in nappies again as there is just too much going on at the moment and she will be unsettled by it all despite all her dry nappies. Something to save for the UK especially as the washing machine is all unplugged and dried and bolted up for transporting. Since we disconnected it we have had two explosive nappies from dd2 (in disposables until the hired washing machine arrives) and a wet bed. It was only yesterday lol.
Right I must go, DH has just rung to say that the car shipping which we thought we could pay for in Cyprus cash has to be paid by UK cheque so we now have to get £850 back to the UK sigh.
Have good days all.
Oh and dd2 has finally got to grips with eating solids, but only if dh feeds her . She just messes around with me, I think because I am the milk machine....

SKYLERtnightholynight · 03/01/2006 07:38

Lua - I am moving to the Midlands, near Wolverhampton so well located to try and make meet ups. I am looking forward to finally meeting you and our Junie babies .

mandymac · 03/01/2006 09:13

Hello Junies

This might be my last post for a while as I am back to work from tomorrow . I will be trying to avoid the temptation to log onto mumsnet at work (well for the first few weeks at least! ). Skylar, good luck with the move! EYM - hope the sleeping settles down again. Lua and Mrs Ws I hope your retuns to work are going smoothly! - I'm sure I will be back to compare notes. Jonah - I kind of know what you mean about seeing a newborn and getting broody. Our babies aren't such babies anymore!
Take care Junies!

2Happy · 03/01/2006 09:30

Just a very quick post to say good luck to Mrs Wed, Tea and anyone else going back to work today. Hope it goes well for you. Like Mandymac I'm back tomorow (still a bank holiday here today!), and I'm dreading it. So don't want to leave my baby boy (made worse by him randomly refusing to sleep last night, up from 12.30 to 4am, grrr)
Anyway, good luck everyone!
(ps Jonah, I'd have another tomorrow )

sfxmum · 03/01/2006 11:36

morning all

best of luck to all going back to work

plumber still not here - first thing on tuesday clearly means something different to him

trying to call around while dd tries to chew phone..sorry needed to rant.

as always thanks for listening

tribpot · 03/01/2006 19:32

Hope everyone who started back today found it okay - I discovered that my life to date has in some ways been useful, first in teaching how to blag it at work when I have no idea what I'm talking about and second in how to blag it on three hours' sleep after a night out on the lash

Anyway, will catch up properly later but just wanted to report that my little nephew (21 months) has managed to break his leg Because it's a spiral fracture the hospital have to treat it as possible child abuse, so tomorrow he has a head-to-toe x-ray to look forward to

They think what happened is he got his leg stuck in the bars of his cot and then turned over or twisted about somehow, he woke up screaming at 10 o'clock last night.

Any ideas from you mums of older ones of a suitable pressie for an active little boy who will be immobile for a while?

Lua · 03/01/2006 20:05

Hi Trib - Sorry to hear about your nephew! I can't remember his age.... is he the one your brother just adopted? I would say if it is an older one, some kind of eletronic game...I shudder at the idea in general, but I imagine it is the best way to unleash some of the nergy under the circunstances....

tribpot · 03/01/2006 20:30

It's the adopted one, Lua. This adds to the situation because social services are still involved with him from the adoption - although this ought to make things better (given my bro and SIL have been extensively screened compared with the rest of us "just get on with it and hope for the best" parents!) but the social worker is still on holiday. Eek!

troublesmummy · 03/01/2006 20:46

Hi all. I've lost track again. I'm sure i'm not the only one. Hope everyones first day back at work was ok. I have to say, on my first day, i nearly cried i missed my little man so much, but it DOES get easier. I promise!!!

I still miss him so much when i'm not with him, but i do think its good in a way, because it makes me appreciate him when i do see him.

Happy new year to you all too. I'm a bit late i know. Sorry. Ds sat up on his own for about 10 seconds yesterday. I was so proud of him. Then he fell over, but he was on the bed for he was well protected.

I'm so on a diet. Don't know how naughty you lot were, but i've put on 6 lbs in the last 4 weeks, and i feel really crap for it. Guess what i had for tea.....chips from the chip shop!! Obviously i don't feel that bad then!

Hope all your little ones are progressing well. Catch up soon

eastyorksmum · 03/01/2006 21:19

wow i cant belive i get to sleep tonite xxxxxxx

Bubbaloo · 03/01/2006 22:29

Evening All,

Haven't had the chance for a proper catch up so apologies if I've missed anything.

Hope everyone who returned to work today didn't find it too bad.Personally I'm dreading it,but think once I'm back into the swing of things I'll be ok.NOT looking forward to getting up at 5am though!

SFX-Hope the plumber eventually turned up and fixed things.

Trib-how awful about your nephew.Do hope he gets better soon.Like you say,it's probably in your brother's favour that they've been vetted prior to the adoption and I'm sure they'll be fine.
When Oscar fractured his skull the questions they kept asking were awful. It did upset me but they're only concern is for the child. They even put him on the "at risk" register(which thankfully he's now off)in the beginning. My hv said they have to thoroughly check each case as there's so many nasty people out there.

Skyler-When are you actually moving? Sounds really stressfull.I hate moving...and that's within the UK.Good luck.

Troubles-Yay on the sitting.Ds can also only sit for a bit, then he folds in half, lol!
I'm also dieting(for a change!),but I'm determined to stick to it this time.I've told dh as soon as I've lost a fair amount I'll be ready to seriously start trying again for baby number 2.

Hi EYM-Well done on your badge.
'Hope you have a nice night in with hubby.

Well I've been having fun and games with weaning.Since introducing Petits Filous last week,ds seems to be off anything that has the slightest lump. He's also only taking approx 20 oz's of milk, whereas it used to be about 30.
I've made him some lovely Annabel Karmel recipes with fish and cheese as I thought he was getting bored with just fruit and veg,but he clamps his mouth firmly shut!
Funny thing is I'm going to take him to be weighed tomorrow and to mention it to the hv there to see what she suggests, but today has been the total opposite, lol!
He's eaten everything and had 33oz's of milk.Had to laugh as he only ate half his fruit at tea time,so I decided to mix a pot of his yoghurt in with it and he polished it off.
He is also drinking out of a cup now with no problems.I've spent a fortune on valve cups,Doidy and beakers and the one he likes is the cheap Tommee Tippee one,he he!

We also picked up his next pair of boots the other day and I didn't put them on properly.Poor little mite now has a blister on his heel which is bright red. He's such a happy soul though-doesn't complain about anything.
Have also noticed tonight that his right leg is shorter than the left.Don't know if it's to do with his condition, but I've never noticed it before. He has an appointment with the specialist at the end of Feb,but I'm going to see if we can see him before then.
I'm probably imagining it,but It'll put my mind to rest.I even got the tapemeasure out earlier to check.

Sory for the long, boring post-hope everyone else is well.x

teabelly · 03/01/2006 22:34

Evening ladies

Trib, oh how horrid - made me flinch just thinking about it Does he like jigsaws?? Or maybe colouring?? Ds has a magic doodle board, where you draw loads of fun pics and shapes with a magnetic pen, and then erase it with a hidden ruler type thingy and then start all over again - endless fun time and time and time again...?

Thanks for all the good work vibes...it was absolutely awful...mostly down to the fact that after two weeks holiday I hate going back to work...after 8 months off I didn't stand a chance and it's a new place with new peeps I don't know, haven't been the new girl for years! Still now that it's out of the way I'm sure it can only get better...and if not at least it's only a maternity leave, so I'll pray the girlie wants her job back!

Right best go and get dd's bag ready for tomorrow...no rest for the wicked eh! Hope Lua/Mrs W you had better day's back...good luck for tomorrow 2Happy/Mandy

Take care all, night night x

teabelly · 03/01/2006 22:38

Bubb - x posted there DD is a massive fan of yoghurts too! and very opinionated about what she eats...yesterday as we all had sandwiches for lunch she yelled at me until I gave her one too...I can't believe it a 7 month old gumming a dairylee sarnie into submission - was the funniest sight!

Bubbaloo · 03/01/2006 22:52

He he he,Tea.

Do you cut the crusts off btw? Think I might try the same.Ds doesn't like the texture of toast, but he might like a sarnie.

Lua · 03/01/2006 23:23

Hi Tea - I forgot that you were actually not just getting back to work, but starting a new one! That must have been extra hard! Glad it went ok!

I was a bit stressed at how DS would do for a full day at the nursery after the long break,ut hewasall smiles as usual!
How did everybody else did?

Bub- Hope Oscar's legs are OK! He (and you!) certainly had enough to cope with!

katzg · 04/01/2006 11:29

well i'm back at work too. Started yesterday and then left my laptop at work because its easier than lugging it around, so no internet access at home tonight either. I have to say although i miss the DD's when i'm at work the silence is magical!

sfxmum · 04/01/2006 12:12

hello all

well plumber was here today for 2hrs and fixed the problem. needless to say it was not the same unrealiable so and so from yesterday all better now

special hi to those just back at work. i must get in touch with my work to sort out working hrs before i go back in june. although i have been working for the same organisation for over 10yrs i had just gone for a promotion when i found out i was pregnant, i did not have the time to establish much over those 8 months, in fact my replacement will be in post longer than i.
my main concern is that i really dont have the best relationship with my new supervisor. enough about work

bubb - i am with you on diet and baby 2. but i need weight watchers to keep me going, will start next week. worked well last time.
dd also likes the TT first cup she cant deal with valve ones at all. think same with EYM

trib - so sorry about your nephew ouch and ouch just thinking about it.hope he has a quick recovery.
i know it seems intrusive but i feel social workers need to ask questions. i have worked with severely abused children and honestly you see the world in a different way, could not do it know and frankly wished i did not have some images in my mind when i look at dd.

eym- hurrah for night off, hope you enjoyed it

tea- sarnies well done, i think i am a silly first time mum worried about choking, dd eats a bit of toast carrots and fruit purees and no to all else. she looks at my food a lot and tries to grab it, i must introduce more interesting food

giddy - guess its hard to show no reaction so as not to give leona any ideas,

skyler shudder at move, hope it goes well

SKYLERtnightholynight · 04/01/2006 19:24

Well our stuff has gone to be shipped and so I am sitting in an empty house echoing around with DH. No time for a proper catch up as I am KNACKERED and so relieved that it is all done and dusted...until I worry that we have kept too much stuff back to take on the plane and get in cars the other end.
DD2 has finally got the hang of what to do with food but today her teeth have been killing her and so she has not wanted anything in her mouth that is not controlled by her ie a spoon. I tentatively gave her a rice cake and she LOVED it and wolfed it down which was great.
Giddy - Sorry you are coping with dd1 attention seeking. What hard work for you. Glad you are feeling better now too.
Hope the days back at work went well for those that went...
Hello to Trouble too.....
Byeeee
