New thread!

LBH glad to hear that she's getting better. I't probably some internal bruising but now you know that you were right to take her to A&E

PA have a good day with your DH and visiting your new flat.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/08/2011 20:40

I'm glad to hear your DD is doing okay, LBH - quite right to get her checked.
Thanks for the advice on CC too!

As it turns out, we started last night, without intending to, but that's the way it happened. DD woke briefly at 23.10, went back to sleep without parental intervention, then woke again at 00.00. I tried giving her a feed/nuzzle to resettle, but she just started to yell when I tried to put her in her cot, so DH came in and suggested he take over. So he soothed her and laid her down, went out, she started wailing and calling again, he waited a bit, went back in, repeat, waited a bit longer etc. It took about 1hr20 (probably no longer - possibly shorter - than if we'd been in with her as per previously) and the longest DD was intermittently wailing for (no actual melt-downs) was about 15-20 mins. She fell completely silent at about 01.15.

She woke briefly at 04.10, wailed for a moment, then fell silent again until 06.10.

So we've resolved to stick with it. No more coming into bed with us first thing and latching on - we'll take turns getting up with her.

Tonight, DD protested when I put her down at bedtime. I initially took her straight out and tried again with the same result. So DH went in again and soothed her, came out, momentary tantrum of about two mins from DD then silence.

I'm hoping she's already getting the message.

And actually, with DH and I both agreed on how to do this, it didn't feel too bad. It helps that DD mostly doesn't have major melt-downs (although it's hard to ignore plaintive cries of "Mummy! Daddy! Milk!" etc.)

FX...

StoneBaby · 21/08/2011 20:51

IC good luck. FX that it'll work quickly for you

InmaculadaConcepcion · 21/08/2011 21:29

Thanks SB. I'm fairly confident it will as DD has always been pretty good at learning new habits if we're firm about it.
For example, she's now tending to sleep close to two hours at lunchtime since I stopped instantly reacting when she stirred and now the stirring is getting less too. That's after a week. The last time I did a bit of sleep training (when DD was about 7 months or so), her pattern had changed by the third day. Here's hoping!!

I must say, I'm also thinking about dropping the bedtime BF immediately as well - especially if DD starts protesting every time she's unlatched to go in her cot. After all, if she's going to protest anyway, might as well get the whole thing over with.

I'll see how she is tomorrow. Smile

SconesForTea · 22/08/2011 11:22

IC best of luck with the sleep training and the stopping BF. It sounds like you've got off to a great start. I hope you don't find stopping BF too emotional.

LBH your poor DD and you definitely did the best thing in taking her to the hosp. Glad she seems to be feeling better.

SB Sad to hear of DS's poor bottom. It is such a shame that washable nappies do seem to make nappy rash worse Confused Ruins our good intentions when we have such sensitive-bottomed LOs!

PA how was your day with DH? How's the new flat, when do you move in?

I'm staying at my mum's for a few days, and my Dad (my parents are divorced) looked after DD for 24 hours Sat am to Sunday am. She was absolutely fine, apart from not napping which seems to be a recurring theme when she is anywhere other than home or my mum's Hmm She even slept through for him and slept through last night too - with one resettle at 6am - to 8am this morning!!! She does seem to be getting better.... But it's certainly not consistent yet.

I'm exactly a week behind PA so 31 weeks currently and I'm told by everyone that I look ready to drop Hmm I have to admit that I probably am larger now than I was at 42 weeks with DD I'm grunting whenever I move and finding it very hard to sleep... But can't stop eating cake all the same... Blush

DD's having a nice long nap! Yay!

PenguinArmy · 22/08/2011 11:40

It would seem DDs stretch of sleeping through is over atm. She seems to be getting more unsettled but is still largely OK as she's not normally awake for more than a minute. I don't think I'll worry about DDs sleep for a little longer yet especially if there is a regression around here anyway.

I think with nappies I might put DD in disposables one day a week. We did yesterday due to the travelling and it seems to put pay to the bits that were starting to get sore.

The flat is lovely, no room feels small and it's a really good use of space with loads of storage. Both bedrooms are comfortably double sized. I think DH found it hard to see us just for a few hours and he said that DD has noticeably grown in those those two weeks.

IC good luck over the next few nights. It's great that both you and DH are together on the matter.

I'm really liking the video monitor although it is a eye opener to how long she spends up there quiet but not sleeping. As well as taking ages to go to sleep she is awake a while before crying out for us. Saying that I have no idea what is happening with naps today.

Not sure what to do with myself this week, nearly all my friends are on holiday. Considered just moving in yesterday but couldn't quite do that to my mum.

Was hoping to try and book a provisional MW appointment but they won't let me until I register which has to be in person. Getting a bit paranoid about how small I'm measuring now, but he's moving loads so must be OK.

PenguinArmy · 22/08/2011 11:40

that was long and a me post Blush

InmaculadaConcepcion · 22/08/2011 13:13

If he's wriggling about, I expect he's fine, PA! I can understand the paranoia though.
Interesting to hear about the video monitor and what it's revealing!!

Good news on the sleep, Scones, although tough on you to be carrying around such a load already....yikes!

Thanks for the good wishes re: CC.
Well, I'm happy to report that after the initial protest at bed time, DD slept through, didn't hear a peep from her until 06.50 this morning. I'd love to think the sleep training worked that quickly, but I suspect it was just a fluke. DH muttered half-ruefully, "How are we supposed to sleep train you when you sleep through...?!" as he got up before DD did.
Anyway, I'm not knocking it!!

StoneBaby · 22/08/2011 19:12

IC Grin at your DH

Scones well done on the sleeping, it shows you your DD can do it.

PA when are you planning to move? Is it by Oxford?

I wonder how stan is doing as we haven't heard from her since she had her DS. Also hope rainbow, fc, chinook are doing fine.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 22/08/2011 21:47

Yes, I was wondering about our other sometime thread friends too, SB.....

DD went down protesting again tonight. I went back in after a minute or two, gave her a quick cuddle then put her back down, then suggested to DH he go in if she was still in full flow after another three minutes had elapsed. She wasn't, it all went quiet.
We shall see what tonight brings!

PenguinArmy · 22/08/2011 22:13

you could send a message to the whole fb group, especially if we want to arrange a meet up before me and scones get too big far along.

PenguinArmy · 22/08/2011 22:14

oh SB we move in next Sunday

We're on one waking already. Nite all

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 13:33

I hope the night wasn't too fragmented for you, PA!
How exciting to have your flat sorted too! Um - it's not up too many stairs, is it?!!

DD woke once last night at about 02.30. DH went in after a couple of minutes and laid her back down. We then both laid there on tenterhooks waiting for the next protest....and it never came. Result! DD then slept on until 06.30.....
I'm more convinced than ever that my ministrations were contributing to DD staying awake for such long periods - clearly when DH goes to her, she doesn't get worked up wanting to be latched on for hours at a time and just goes back to sleep. Well, that's what seems to be happening anyway. With any luck, DD will soon stop bothering to shout out at night when she wakes up and will just turn over and go back to sleep on her own.

I gave DD scrambled egg on toast for lunch - not something I've attempted for months and months. I stirred a bit of cheese into it too and she ate the lot. Splendid! Smile

PenguinArmy · 23/08/2011 14:17

oh no, it's a ground floor one. They only have three floors and I think the above ones are maisonettes. It's a private area and the residents are largely old people (so they take care of the gardens). In my head I thought it was going to be like the council estate flats around here. Whereas I think we'll be the main noise disturbance.

Waking every 3 hours so not too horrendous. Each night is definitely getting more unsettled, I'm sure the culprit will reveal itself soon. I'm getting used to rain stopping our park outings, I really should get the SB weather of my home page. DH did drop the bombshell last night that we will be without internet for the first 10 days Shock. I spy some coffee shop outings in my short term future.

DD seems to wake up exactly at 6am atm.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 14:22

If you can afford one, PA, get a Puddlesuit (or something similar) for your DD and if you haven't got decent waterproofs yourself, do a bit of charity shop scouring. That's what I did and the result is DD and I splosh off to the park and enjoy having the place to ourselves whenever it's wet...!
DD in her Puddlesuit plus charity shop bootettes looks like she's just off to do some decontamination Grin Priceless!
Hey, can you get the elderly neighbours onside? It would be ace for babysitting if you could!!

PenguinArmy · 23/08/2011 14:54

I broke my lovely waterproof trousers :( when I had that accident when pg with DD but don't need them for myself anyway, more to stop her wet bum on the slide or swings.

Any recommendations gladly taken for baby trousers or suits that are known to actually be waterproof.

StoneBaby · 23/08/2011 18:11

The splash suit are not that waterproof - DS got soaked while wearing one when 'helping' DH to wash the car. Nursery has some suits of that brand and they seem to do the job.

I love the pics of the peek-a-boo toddlers on FB

IC glad to hear CC is not too hard at the moment.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 21:15

Yep, that's the type DD's got, SB - I've found it to be excellent so far, although to be fair, I haven't hosed her down or anything to fully test it!! I got it from eBay where you can get them for about twelve quid. I also got her one that is currently much too big, so the sleeves and hood get rolled back - figure it should last her for next year too...
It is indeed perfect for keeping her dry on wet play equipment and while sitting in damp sand-pits etc...

For a pregnant figure, this would be perfect - they're pretty roomy. You may remember a pic of my DH wearing one when we were doing the daily buggy walks to get DD to nap. Not exactly cheap, but I've been very impressed at my one's durability. I've had it for a few years now and it's still going strong.

Cheers SB, you and me both! We had 10 mins of intermittent protesting at bedtime again tonight - I went back in once and gave DD a cuddle then put her back down, cue another 5 mins, then silence. I still haven't given up the bedtime BF (something makes me want to keep it up until we've done our week in Cornwall...) but this kind of performance is making me more inclined to do so as soon as we get back... That and a desire to get to my singing group rehearsals on time Grin

PenguinArmy · 23/08/2011 21:19

In case others are looking

If you scroll down millets are doing cheap ones but they only come in pink or blue. I know someone who has used them and they say they are alright.

I didn't like the patterns on SBs link, but same brand and not much more pricey here and in IMO nicer colours.

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 21:51

DD's got the red one, PA (bloody pink/blue pees me off! Figure if I have a second DC and it turns out to be a DS, I would have no problem putting him in red) - there are a few places on eBay selling different colours if you check it out - and it would save you some dosh, even with the p&p!!

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 21:53

I'm just posting a pic of DD wearing it on the FB page...

PenguinArmy · 23/08/2011 22:02

just seen a 'pink camo' one on ebay . If the millets ones were dark blue I wouldn't mind so much, it's just that boy=sky blue, girl=candy pink thing

InmaculadaConcepcion · 23/08/2011 22:33
PenguinArmy · 24/08/2011 08:33

I feel compelled to say that actually one of my favourite colours is fuchsia pink, in case I've upset anyone unintentionally

InmaculadaConcepcion · 24/08/2011 13:06

I love pink, PA!

But I hate the "pinkification" of young girls - yes, no problem in giving them pink stuff, but for goodness sake, there are plenty of other lovely colours!
