Hey ladies, pretty crap day here. I can't quite beleive I'm reporting sad news again. My granda died this morning :(. He was 92 but it's come as a bit of a shock. So we'll be travelling up to Aberdeen again for another unhappy reason.
:(

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 25/07/2011 18:38

Oh Lis you poor thing, I'm so sorry Sad

((hugs))

BuckminsterFullerene · 25/07/2011 18:46

hugs for you Lis. What a tough time your family's had of late.

hi ginger

Whoever asked (sleepy brain) about naps: F's been a 35 minute nipper for months. I spend the day constantly trying to get him to sleep because he's so grumpy. Although he seems to be getting better.

First swim today. Lots of crying an he nearly fell asleep in the water. But I think he enjoyed it in the end. He's wiped out now though. Hope he sleeps well!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 25/07/2011 19:57

I'm so sorry about your grandad Lis. Your poor grandad and poor you, you've had a tough time these past few months. You're amazing to have coped so well and to always be bright and cheery on here {hugs}

I've spent the day sorting out the boys clothes. Packing some away and getting some out, then vacuum packing the mountain of clothes to pack away. Ds3 is probably only a week or two away from going into 6-9 clothes so I thought I'd sort it out now. Looking through ds2's old clothes,i can see I moved away from sleep suits at the 6-9 month stage and started buying pj's instead. I've got the snuggle fit ones, which are so cute and they seem to fit my boys better as they are long in the torso.

Does anyone else's lo move around? The past week or so I had my suspicions that I was moving towards me across the bed ( ie quite a long way across the kingsize), but didn't give it much thought. But today I laid him on his back on the baby gym and he completed a full circle. His head stayed in the middle of the mat and his feet moved around. He was moving round by rolling onto his side then moving onto his back again, each time he done it he obviously moved a little bit. I didn't notice at first, but then realised that when he was half way round I hadn't put his feet at that end of the mat!

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 25/07/2011 20:07

ILike - yes T does that, goes round in a circle with his head in the middle. He has also started properly rolling over and gets his arms sorted out and does a little press up to look around, and the looks very pleased with himself Grin Today he crawled backwards a few cms, I am so not ready for him to be mobile yet!!!

JenAT · 25/07/2011 20:22

Lis so sorry to hear about your Granda (((hug)))

Wow this thread doesn't half move on a pace, so much chat to catch up on!

Aussie how is it going today? I think the advice you have been given by the other posters on the thread is really good. I don't have any advice to add but just wanted you to know thinking of you.

ILTMIMI and Ali, G is a phantom cot rotator. I put him in the cot with his feet to the foot and when I go back to him he has usually rotated 180 degrees and has his feet right at the top of the cot. He has also learned to roll from his back to his front but can't roll back yet and gets very frustrated and red faced trying to. Another favourite trick when he is not in his sleeping bag is to stick his legs through the cot bars, then get them stuck. A few weeks ago I put him down in the middle of our double bed and v briefly popped into the spare room to fetch a towel. I heard an ominous thud then a loud scream and he had managed to roll off the bed. God only knows how he did it, but I felt absolutely mortified and a very bad Mummy!

JenAT · 25/07/2011 20:26

Forgot to say, hello and welcome Jode and Ginger Grin

kittycatcat · 25/07/2011 20:30

Big hugs lis thinking of u and ur family xx

Sassy20 · 25/07/2011 20:45

L does that too and I also noticed it when shed turned 180 degrees on her play gym! She always shuffles backwards when she's lying down. So cute. Smile

Sassy20 · 25/07/2011 20:45

Forgot to add sorry about your grandad Lis Sad

DairyBeetle · 25/07/2011 21:45

Lis so sorry to hear about your grandad Sad

S is another with the clock impressions when I lay him down anywhere, in fact he rarely stays still! He's done the legs through the cot bars too (which he seemed to find hilarious Hmm me not so much at 4am!) and he never wakes up in the same place when in our bed.

After weeks of trying S finally rolled from back to front and back again today. I think he shocked himself a bit when he suddenly ended up on his tummy! He's been doing the crawling attempts during tummy time this past week or so too, like you Ali I'm not ready for him to be more mobile just yet!

LisMcA · 25/07/2011 22:25

Thank you ladies, it's been a year of highs and lows so far, hopefully this will be the last of the lows.

B hasn't mastered the clock movement, but can go backwards on his back. He's quite quick! laid him on his play mat went to the kitchen, came back and he was pushing himself accros the wooden floor! Need to get a rug me thinks!

Starshaped · 25/07/2011 23:24

Same here - no clock movements, but lots of backwards shuffling. Her legs are so strong, she can propel herself at some force! She's even managed to kick herself into a diagonal position in her cot the last few nights. I'd love to know how she's managed that in a gro-bag!

Lis so sorry about your sad news. As you said, hopefully it will be the last of your lows for this year Sad

Glad to know I'm not alone with the non painful milk blister Chilli. I think I'll follow your ignore approach for the time being. Please do let me know if you get any suggestions from anybody at your breast feeding group though.

AussieMum2Be · 26/07/2011 00:14

Lis sorry to hear about your Grandad, big hugs

Jen thanks, being positive and been mega busy pumping

I'm so jealous of everyone's wriggly baby's, DI has flailing legs & arms but doesn't go anywhere, I wonder if it's that huge cloth nappy!?

Welcome Ginger & Jode

We get 30-60min naps about 2/3 times a day, more 30mins and they are usually after a feed or in her bouncer or out walking in the Pram

Ok just had a glass of Sherry, yes I am a 70 year old woman ! And off to bed !

Night All

Sassy20 · 26/07/2011 04:17

Well I knew last nights long sleep was a one off. Awake now for nappy change and feed! Full of cold with sore throat and headache Sad

Glee is on tv though so that's something! Don't know what I'd do without early hours tv from e4!!! Smile

fraktious · 26/07/2011 05:44

So sorry Lis :(

M has mastered rolling from back to front but traps his arm underneath him! He also does the clock movement and a kind of propulsive bounce backwards - a bit like break dancing! He lifts his feet, arches his back and tucks his chin forwards. It's hilarious to watch but actually a dangerously effective movement!

We're back to all night co-sleeping. I keep telling myself it's just a phase Grin

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 26/07/2011 07:17

Aussie- the cloth definitely slows things. DS1 was almost 6 months before he rolled. We probably didn't give him enough nappy free time, but in the scheme of things it doesn't matter when they do these things really - there is a very broad spectrum of normal! T is much bigger in relation to his nappies than DS1 was at the same age which I am sure makes a difference.

Good night here. 9.30-3 and 3.30-7.

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 26/07/2011 07:18

Sassy I don't feel well either. Sinuses are a bit blocked and I have got a sore throat and the sniffles. Boo.

BuckminsterFullerene · 26/07/2011 07:37

ooh, ooh, sore throat & headache club for me.

Cloth nappies too big to move club for F.

Is it going to be hot again today?

JenAT · 26/07/2011 08:36

It must be something in the air! as I woke in the middle of the night with a horrendous headache and sore throat. Took paracetamol, then ibuprofen and lots of water and feeling marginally better.

G slept from 10:45 till 5:15, thats a record 6 and half hour stretch! Fed him ,nappy change and back to bed, and he is still sleeping. I am sitting in bed, typing on netbook and drinking Brew, dd has gone to nursery. Finally enjoying some of the perks of mat leave Grin, although I am sure as I type this G will be starting to wriggle and begin his cot rotation as a prelude to waking up!

ILikeToMoveItMoveIt · 26/07/2011 08:45

You can all keep your colds to yourselves, thank you! Grin

Both dh and I have had so many colds since starting a family. I guess you get a bit run down from lack of or interrupted sleep, and our little darlings pick up everything going and pass it on. I've found the worse thing about breastfeeding is not being able to take certain medications when you have a cold. Colds are one of those seemingly small ailments, but man they can knock you for six. That reminds me, if you're breastfeeding please double check what medicines you take, there is a certain drug (sorry I can't remember the name) that is in cold and flu, night and day and decongestants that can knacker your milk supply. Hopefully someone will know what I'm talking about and will know the name of the drug Blush

I seems to be settling into more of an overnight pattern at last. Fingers crossed it won't go pear shaped when we put him into his room. Mind you, one of the things I've learnt over the years is, you can always count on things changing!

I put I in his first set of clothes yesterday (he's only been in rompers and babygro's so far), they made him look so much older Sad Not that I'm determined to keep him as a baby for as long as possible or anything Blush

13 weeks tomorrow

DairyBeetle · 26/07/2011 09:24

S did a very good wiggle and clock impression last night. He shouted us in at 3.30am (which is about right for his night time feed) when DH found him totally turned around with feet at the other end of the cot. At least he understands to stay 'feet to foot' in the cot Grin

Yes the cloth nappies do slow the rolling and wiggling here (which given how quick he can go without a nappy I'm quite grateful for!) though I've noticed that as he's got bigger, and has now gone up a popper on the one size nappies, they aren't restricting him as much . Saying that S does have a lot of nappy free time, otherwise I'd never finish my cup of tea on a morning!

ILTMIMI I always get a little flip in my tummy when S is in an outfit rather than babygro. He always wears a plain white babygro to bed (they're his PJs!) so when he's ready for bed I can pretend he's not got any bigger!

For those of you suffering with colds www.breastfeedingnetwork.org.uk/drugs-in-breastmilk-information-and-factsheets.html these might be useful, I'm sure that there is one that goes through cold and flu meds.

LisMcA · 26/07/2011 09:36

Morning, we had a bit of a terrible (For B) night. Went down ok at 8 as usual, and he slept untl 3. Then screamed from 3 until 4.30,no idea what was wrong, feed didn't work, changed him, rocked him, tried dummy, tried to suck the snot from his nose (he really didn't like that). Of course as soon as daddy came through he was all smiles and giggles and went back to sleep no problrem.

I'm knackered, couldn't get back to sleep after all that. DH got up at 6.30 and I was still wide awake. Must have dosed off again as have just woke up, we have sencond jabs today at 10.30. I'm currenlty pumping, as a bottle warms and my porridge microwaves. B is still sleeping, although I can hear rumblings. If we make it for 10.30 I'll ge mighty surprised!

Afterwards we are going to register for swimming lessons! Question, what does a baby wear int he pool? I know youget swim nappies, but some trunks look like that have an nappy in them.

JustKeepSwimming · 26/07/2011 09:40

DD up twic last night, unusual for her. think she's getting too nosy so not feeding enough in the day Hmm

think it might be pseudoepinephrine - the main decongestant in cold stff that works on draining your sinuses & as you milk ducts are sinuses too it buggers up your supply.
handy for when you stop bf and want to avoid engorgement...

i was bad mummy and just used swim nappies for the boys without trunks on top. have given in and bought DD a cute swimsuit though Blush

Sassy20 · 26/07/2011 09:56

Lots of sympathy for all the cold sufferers. I has to get a hot drink at 5am to soothe my poorly throat. Paracetamol for me. Don't usually use much else as colds just seem to go when they're ready!

Lis depending on who you're registering with they may give you a swim nappy. L is with swimbabes and we got five disposable swim nappies plus a swim plus swim nappy made out of swimsuit type material.
