Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

Oh, car seat I can't offer much advice as we rarely use ours (we don't drive) so S still finds the car seat quite the novelty but he does like to be able to see someone/look out the window. He's the same on the bus and get in a right strop if he's in the pushchair and can't see out.

Could you get a mirror so that he could see you? Or at least angle it so he can see more than the back of the seat? (My car knowledge is pitiful so I have no idea if this would actually be workable!)

Alibabaandthe80nappies · 01/09/2011 21:05

God I have been so lucky with both my boys - they drop off instantly in the car, and very often in the buggy/pram as well. With DS1, DH could often be found driving up and down the motorway at 2am to get him to settle - we couldn't afford to do it now with the price of fuel!! Grin

T is asleep, he's been down for about an hour. Second night in a row

He is still in with us and probably will be for a while longer until we sort out what we're doing in terms of extending the house.
DS1's sleep didn't improve at all when he went in his own room, it was just further to walk 4 times a night Grin

Beetle I like your title :)

Buck - start as you mean to go on in how you divvy up tasks. We have a list on the fridge of things that need doing each night without fail, otherwise we are all behind in the morning.

Cyclebump · 01/09/2011 21:42

Bugger, sorry I couldn't be more help Moley Sad

mumtomoley · 01/09/2011 21:56

Buck I think you should leave it for DH! Though it did make me smile as my DP quite often just sits there watching telly when he's 'in charge' of G (usually while I'm doing the housework!) and I'm thinking shall I just do the things he needs to be doing or let him find out for himself!

Well done you for your first day back at work :) Was it quite nice being a normal human being again as well as a mum? I made a spreadsheet at the weekend to calculate the cost of each of our meals - I can just change the price of an ingredient on one bit and it amends the costs to all the meals on the s/s. This somewhat unecessary activity took most of a Sunday afternoon and made me wonder if I'm missing work more than I thought!

JKS I've tried with and without toys! He's got a dangly mothercare toy that he likes and that does work sometimes but only for about 5 minutes. He will stop crying when I've stopped the car but only when I go round and open his door and comfort him but then it's instant so I think it can't be too hot or anything. Also, randomly there is one Jack Johnson song that totally stops him in his tracks it's like magic! Sadly the stereo in my car is out of action but works in DP's car.

mumtomoley · 01/09/2011 21:58

Also have the mirror already! I am crossing my fingers thing improve when I can switch to a forward facing car seat!

Sassy20 · 01/09/2011 22:52

Back from a week in Spain! I'm a very proud mummy after L behaved impeccably on both flights and coped with the hot weather. Smile

Unfortunately she slept in a cot in Spain and on returning appeared to have outgrown the Moses basket so is now in her cot in her own room. I have cried buckets most of the night and can't settle without her in her basket next to me Sad
I know it'll be good for both L and me and dh but will take some adapting to.

kittycatcat · 02/09/2011 00:55

Glad u had a good hol sassy. awh they seem to grow up so quickly don't they. Hugs. S is in his own room and I often wake thinking he's in bed with me. I literally lay motionless in case I wake him And often panic I am squashing him. Has anyone else had that? It's weird cos he never sleeps with us!

Cyclebump · 02/09/2011 05:44

Aaaaargh! H went down at 8.40pm and woke at 9.30, 10.45, 1.45, 3 and now at 5.30. Am f*ing knackered and he's decided it's wakey time. Aaaaaaaaargh!!!!

Glad Spain was fun Sassy.

And I do the weird panic 'Is H in the bed?' thing too Kitty.

BuckminsterFullerene · 02/09/2011 06:43

That's rough, cycle. Hope settles and you get a bit more sleep.

We had a better night after F finally went to sleep with feeds at midnight and 4. I just gave him a sleepy feed, but he properly woke as I put him down. Going to try some more in half an hour before I leave.

fraktious · 02/09/2011 06:44

I like both Grin combine the 2?

Food glorious food, sleep glorious sleep, they're our babies and we'll obsess if we want to!

buck well done. It's tough, isn't it? Sad M was bottle shy Monday, took about 5oz all day but yesterday took 9oz from bottles in just under 6 hours!

OP posts:
BuckminsterFullerene · 02/09/2011 07:12

that's reassuring, Frak. Hopefully F will follow M today and have a decent feed from the bottle.

Sassy20 · 02/09/2011 07:35

Well I made it through Lucy's first night in her own room! She went to sleep at around 9pm then woke at 2.30am, was quickly settled and woke at 7am. Really impressed with her ability to cope with whatever we throw at her. Smile Me on the other hand cried when put her to bed then cried when went to bed then cried through night on occasions so not a great deal of sleep! Hmm

Sassy20 · 02/09/2011 07:36

Meant to say love the title Frak Smile

GlaikitFizzog · 02/09/2011 08:01

B has ben up since 6.30 and will not go back down as he usually does. My sister is down visiting but still in bed so I've bitten the bullet and taken him downstairs. I hope this isn't going to be the way of it, I enjoy my longish lies!! (Sorry for those who don;t get any sleep, I'm not moaning, its the unknowing about it all)

B is in his own room and it was a sucess all round from about 7 weeks, I think. He is only across the hall so we can still hear him when he stirs.

Not sure what we are doign today. I was hoping it would be nice-ish and we could go to the local farm park place with a picnic. It's not looking good based on what I can see out the window! I see Londoners should be getting 26degrees! That's bikini weather here!!

caramellokoalalover · 02/09/2011 08:24

Not looking like 26 here yet Fizz. Looks like it's about to rain.

Love the title Frak.

Thanks all for the Pampers Dry tip. I usually use the Pampers New Baby ones so will give the Dry a whirl for nights. No wee puddle last night though. Yay. 3 straightforward wake/feeds. Can't believe that is cause for celebration. There was a glorious night months ago when S only woke for one feed. Feeling like it will never go back to that.

As for the car seat, I think some babies just hate not being able to see you. DS was like that but as soon as we turned him round and we could start throwing raisins into the back to pacify him he was fine. S doesn't mind the car seat but she has DS chatting to her so probably doesn't feel abandoned.

Well done on day one Buck. Slightly jealous actually, work is looking attractive at the moment! Moley I too have spreadsheets for home

GlaikitFizzog · 02/09/2011 08:58

Caramel seeing you has reminded my I have an Australia related question!! A friend has sent a whole load of clothes over for B ans they are size 0, would that be a 9-12 month size. On looking at them I can't quite decide.

Cyclebump · 02/09/2011 09:01

Phew, H went down from 6-8 so I've recovered a bit. Ironically it was when I'd try to put him down and had walked out of the room in frustration when he woke and started to cry. As I was composing myself the crying stopped abruptly. I looked in and he was asleep!

Will properly namecheck when I feel less zombielike Brew

JKSLtd · 02/09/2011 09:08

DD went down at 8pm, she is still asleep......

Meanwhile have expressed 160ml for donating and now wondering if I should express the other (painfully full) side or wait for her to wake.

Plus we are meant to be heading out for the day 'as soon as we are all ready'...

MrsWajs · 02/09/2011 09:16

Fizz R started that about a week or so ago, once she's up now she's up :( I did quite like having a little long lie til 9am or so but guessng those days are over for now. She will wake up anytme from 6.45 onwards now and not go back down

Last night wasn't great either, she went down at 9, small dreamfeed at 10.30, we went to bed at 11.30 and she woke up again at that time, wouldn't settle so I gave her another 2ozs (just enough to send her back to sleep), then she woke up again at 4.15 for another feed! Up for the day when DP left for work at 7.30. Bleugh. Am not used to this but it makes me appreciate a little more how some of the rest of you are feeling on a daily basis!! Nt sure if the dream feed is serving it's purpose if this is the case? Can I ask those of you who have done it with previous children, when did you stop it? I don't want to start something unneccesary and then struggle to take it away again.

Think we are going to try in her own room from Monday and see how she goes, I was quite keen for it last week as she was sleeping really well but if she's going to start night waking again then I doubt its such a good idea, there's no where to feed her in her room, so would mean takng her from room to room overnight and also it's not ideal when DSS is staying if he is going to be disturbed during the night either!

We use pampers baby dry too, i don't find that they leak at all (except maybe the occasional poo) but I do find that by morning the outside of the nappy is starting to feel damp? Anyone else noticed this??

fraktious · 02/09/2011 09:23

buck I think after a bit he got the message that I wasn't there all day and it was the same stuff in a bottle so rather than just taking the edge off, he might as well have a decent feed!

caramello I agree that some babies hate not being able to see you. We just avoid the car as much as possible or go en famille so one of us is always next to him.

Will hop off and start new thread while I can still come back and there's space to link!
